Er...I'm sorry, but I'm afraid this character concept doesn't work for this RP. While this is meant to be lighthearted for the most part, and can be comedic, this character might be the wrong flavor of ridiculous for this RP.That being said, I'm sure he would fit for an over-the-top superhero RP or something like that.

But Vita, he can't even be comedy relief?

What would KLK be without Mako?

Well, I am still interested in this. But anyway, if I may politely inquire, would you be so kind as to inform me -why- exactly this character doesn't work for this RP? Just that statement alone, doesn't help me in accessing why the character would not work, and what characters -would- work in this RP, and I would like to know the reasoning behind it.

As much as I love Kill la Kill and Mako, this isn't Kill la Kill.

... Also I think this character is even too silly for Kill la Kill.

Well... the concept of a giant gorilla with eye lasers is really, really, really goofy. In some things it might work, but the comedy in this is more slapstick or character-based then simply by absurdity. I'd recommend taking a look at previously-posted characters and their quirks if you want to get a good idea of what we're looking for.

The Gorilla does have a serious personality which makes it more perfect for slap-stick and character based stuff, especially knowing the fact that he is a gorilla with lazer eyes. Trying to be a stand-up citizen of society, while being a talking gorilla, getting peeved when he loses his box of receipts and frantically searches for them.
Well that's what the voodoo magic is for, going typical gorilla size, so he isn't always a giant gorilla, rude to work with people when you are giant.

But I can see your points. Well, except for the the fact that he is too silly for Kill La Kill!

I have to disagree! An Absurdly Powerful Student Council, which essentially is a nation state, who have leaders powered by magical clothing that is rather revealing, and a military faction of naked dudes who fight them off!? Sentient Gorilla would fit in pretty well, probably body-guarding for Kaneo, money easily buys Sentient Gorillas.

Name: Imani
Race: Human
Age: 24
Appearance: Samurai yo
Personality: Imani combines far East syle with the spirit of wild west, possessing a cool head and strong will. Although he used to be much more feisty, this spirit was tempered by training, leaving him in a state of focus and discipline. Heading towards his goals, he'll leave only a trail of slash marks and casings.
His constant companion is a set of headphone, releasing a steady stream of lyrics on his journey.
Skills/Abilities: Imani is an accomplished martial artist, skilled in swords and other martial arts weapons. Additionally, he's combined this with his handgun marksmanship, able to dance around as he slings around a pair of handguns.
Equipment: Imani's primary weapon is a katana. Though it's not enchanted, it's well made and well balanced, designed to slice through flesh with ease. His accompanying weapon is a pair of Glock 18c, an Austrian made 9mm handgun. In this way, he specializes in melee combat while also being able to unleash a slurry of bullets when the need arises.
Brief Backstory: There once was a time when Imani was a common punk, roving the streets without purpose, and without style. It was only after meeting a blind swordsman he began to understand the true way: the way of the samurai, and the way of hunting monsters. Training refined him, and gave him purpose, discipline, and spirit. He now wanders the streets of Shinkawa, exterminating monsters that dare encroach on his city.

Simple solution: gorilla-like creature that can assume the form of a very hairy and ape-like human trying to fit into the human world and fights other monsters over a dick-waving instinct of "I'm the alpha male here".

Alternative solution: very hairy and ape-like human that can transform into a gorilla demon thing. He used to be a standard, rather hairless salaryman.

Extra solution: a very hairy and ape-like human who happens to possess the powers of the previous solutions without having a straight gorilla form.

I'll be leaving some time January and won't be coming back until May, but uh... yeah.

Name: Yui Endoh

Race: Half-Mermaid

Age: 19

Appearance: That guitar has 22 frets on it.

Personality: Extroverted and optimistic, Yui tries to find herself in a crowd as often as possible. She seems to draw energy from other people and enjoys socialization. Though she has a lot of fun speaking and playing with others, Yui derives the most enjoyment from performing. She likes playing her guitar fr others to hear and singing. Often, she would show off using bardic magics to create light shows or even choreographed dances with animated golems. Though she may speak in a positive tone, she might say things in such a way that subtly suggest otherwise. Yui doesn't like talking about her problems.

Skills/Abilities: Yui is primarily a magic user, specializing in two separate schools of magic. She can use mermaid magic, that was passed on by her bother; and bardic magic, which she learned in High School from her "angel of music". Her mermaid magic uses water as well as various substances, usually coral or algae that would typically be found in water in order create a certain desired effect. The mermaid magic Yui was taught primarily focuses on healing and creating armor. Yui's bardic magic is less practical and more gimmicky. Her bardic magic will create light shows and special effects one would normally see on stage. Often, these things are harmless and created purely for entertainment. Yui is known to be able to combine knowledge of both magic styles.

Equipment: Most notable among Yui's usual cargo are: her six string electric guitar, always toted on her back; ten guitar picks, kept in a secret compartment under her normal clothing; and a pair of magic white, overknee stockings, what Yui refers to as "reverse flippers" which allow her to walk on land.

Brief Backstory: Yui is a second generation, Earth born mermaid with a human father and mermaid mother. To say the least, things were quite strange in the bedroom; but after a few months (less than 9), Yui was raised among three brothers and a sister. Things were challenging for the family, but the family managed on. Yui was never lonely, however. As a child, she was very shy. Yui kept away even from her own siblings, thinking that they needed their mother's attention more than she did- especially when Yui's mother began trying to kill everything within the same area of water that her children were in. Yui's father only rolled his eyes.

Because Yui had to walk on land in order to go to school, her entire highschool career had been awkward, even if the entire school was filled with half elves and half dwarves and what have you. Being used to the water, Yui had a hard time fitting in. With flippers in place of feet, Yui had a hard time playing sports. The swim and water polo teams kicked her out, other schools calling her an "unfair advantage". She wasn't particularly gifted academically, even compared to her siblings. Yui instead turned to music. She began singing back up her freshman year for her school's spring performance. Yui was no one special, and the star was chosen among the seniors. Through the course of the production of the show, Yui began learning bardic techniques.

Fresh out of High School, Yui wishes to begin a music career.

@bbyangeliike: I'm sorry to hear that.

I feel that I should reiterate this, since without meaning to be rude, I can't help but feel some people missed this in the OP. While I'm fine with serious scenes or plots, the RP's intended to be light-hearted and comedic (as Vita said, think more character and slapstick based than over-the-top ridiculousness) for the most part.

@Descartes: To be honest, this isn't the right sort of thing for the "hundreds of babies, only a few survive" trait of some fish to be applied to mermaids (not that they have the predators required for it anyway). Also, not that it really matters, but these are sapient humanoids, even if that particular bit's a fish trait, child protective services would probably step in before hundreds of children die from their parents being unable to raise them.

@IncredibleBee: While there's nothing "wrong" with this character, I don't know how well he'll fit with the intended tone of the RP.

The part with many eggs is to play up the fact that my character is one quarter fish. It would have been too cheap for my character just to be a human with fins, and I felt like adding that little blurb about her childhood added a bit of depth to the character.

The issue isn't making her seem like just just a fishy human.

The issue is one of tone, a character's backstory involving hundreds of child deaths really does not fit this RP tonally. On top of that, it doesn't really make any sense for Mermaids to have children like that. Presumably they take care of their children and don't have dozens of things eating them. If it was like that it's really unlikely child protective services wouldn't intervene with every birth.

If you want to make her more then just a fishy human, have her born from an egg. Have her be able to breath under water and still not be fully adjusted to being on land. Applying that trait to mermaids really doesn't make any sense and is extremely dark for this RP.

I'm afraid you'll have to be more specific. Even if Imani is rather stylized, he can still be applied to this and a decent variety of modern games, especially because I am a flexible writer; I can adapt.

@IncredibleBee: I think the main issue is that his stoic seriousness is the main focus of his character(you didn't really elaborate on anything else) makes him seem rather difficult to interact with in this RP.

A straightman character is fine, but there's a a balance where they need to react to some extent.

That's not to say the RP can't be serious, but there still needs to be good avenues of character interaction for other purposes.

@Descartes: Thank you.

Stoicism doesn't equate to being impossible to interact with. Besides, straight men are important for comedy. He still totally talks to people because talking is important for normal humans to, y'know, function in society. I never said he'd be difficult to talk with, let alone avoid chatting altogether.

And take Guts, for example. He's one of the most serial characters in manga, and he's got a large and growing group of friends to talk to and who support each other.

I'm aware straightmen are important for comedy.

My issue is that the way you've described his personality makes him seem very difficult to approach because it focuses chiefly on his stoicism. There's no problem with a straightman, quite the opposite, but...

I suppose it's a bit hard to put into words, especially since I don't usually do character stuff after 12:00. I might try and get back to you tomorrow.

Though I can say that comparing him to Guts might not be the best idea given the tone of Berserk compared to this RP. ^^;

You keep saying he's hard to approach, when I assure you that's not the case. Because I don't write characters that don't talk with people, regardless of how stoic they are. That'd just be silly.
I mentioned Guts because he's the same way. Stoic, and rather gritty, but he still talks to people, because Miura knows how to write. You're trying to pin what's typically an author's error on a character. I am assuring you there's no problem, because I am telling you I know how to type up talking. Just because someone isn't bubbly and outgoing doesn't mean they don't know how to talk.

The comedy in Berserk is kinda forced. I suspect it's done entirely so some readers don't kill themselves. Also yes, I'm still interested in this and making a character, I've just gone back to the drawing board since I was going to make a makai knight but I figured yet another melee character isn't really going to add much of anything to this party.
