Is the power draw too much when the ship does an alpha-strike, so that it destabilizes the reaction? Does it overload the grid, or does it overheat the power plant? It'll make a difference, Also, try to avoid firing all at once, In pairs and in sequence would probably be good, keep the rate of fire up and allow the lances time to cool between shots.
I would definitely keep Fenris protected, use the wolf as a sniper platform and out of the reach of the enemy's teeth where possible, or use as a powerful sucker-punch. Dodgy engines might make hit-and-run operations tough, but with a full on Battlegroup to work with.... Also, the Fenris' smaller size means she could hunt in the weeds better than mot of the others. An ideal tactic for her would be to hide in an asteroid belt, or behind moons and ambush pursers. Paired with the penumbra in a small two-ship pack, they could pick off targets in such an environment, keep themselves repaired, and when they didn't have ships to pick on, could strip raw materials out of the nearby stellar objects. With a fighter group in support, these two ships could handle quite a lot on their own.
The Yellowstone is the largest ship in the battlegroup in terms of length, height, width, tonnage, and crew. This might very well make it a very big target, but also may mistakenly lead another fleet to think that the Yellowstone is the flagship. There are several ships that could serve in the flagship role, but I would almost see the Yellowstone as a 'base' of sorts.
I like the Spirit of Water, she's unusual, but I think she could save a lot of lives, both in medical triage, as well as providing strength to a ship in dire moments of need. Combining her with the Penumbra would be able to keep many ships in the fight for longer than would be expected.
The Orpheus is basically a Star Destroyer (very useful), even taking directly the notes right out of the Star Wars Tech Manual, but the turbolasers which are more of a hybrid laser-particle beam, or could be looked at as a photon particle cannon will be quite useful. Ion weaponry will do well against shields, tech systems, and can short out nervous systems and cause plenty of nasty burns in organic targets. Her tractor beams could create serious havoc on the battlefield if used wisely.
Mittnick is a great E-War ship and could be a wildcard in any number of ways, especially with cloaking tech, stealth mines, another high-grade AI that could talk to SARA. Would definitely be useful for C3(C-Cubed... Command, Control, Communications) coordination.
It's a good mix of ships, capabilities, and it gives me goosebumps thinking about what they could accomplish. Most of this is just off the top of my head. I'm sure more will come out in the wash as we play, and the abiltiies of each ship and crew become more clearly defined. I know I have things in mind that havne't been listed for the Typhoon, for instance the armories and the like, but it;'s a warship. That should be pretty much standard.
