Let's be honest the term weeaboo was created for good reasons, I used to be really into anime but then those dumb asses completely killed it for me, for me anime, sonic the hedgehog and Twilight have the worst fan bases of all time. Also I'm a DC fan and Batman is my least favorite hero, so not a lot of the heroes I like get a great amount of respect. My whole point is that anime has over saturated the Guild in my opinion

What makes it worse is that this particular Yog-rant was inspired by a superhero crossover RP he tried to join, where he began complaining about wanting to add non-anime characters to make things "more diverse"... When there was not a single anime character in the RP at all.

if you can see my previous posts this rant happened a few days before I left the rp. If you want to say something to me then say it to me directly or in a private message

I've done this every time you've complained about this...But I've done genre counts. For the first two pages on Casual I've counted 6-9 Anime based threads (some with more tenuous connections than others). There were 7 superhero/X-men type threads. There are 5 Star Wars themed one. That doesn't seem that too out of bounds.Anyway, that point aside... in text a lot of the 'anime stuff' has the potential to take on an entirely different style than it's source material since it lacks the visuals associated with it. A lot of is taking settings and reusing them. There are very few threads that I feel that are so hardcore one way that it'd be hard to throw one character from one into another with minimal tweaking and having it work just fine. You are just as bad as the anime fans that you complain about. You've just become a superheroaboo. I frankly think you are doing your issue way more harm than good with your bi-weekly rants on the matter.

I can't be a superheroaboo, I don't think America and American culture is the greatest in the world because of superheroes. Also I have been a part of many non superhero rps and have a lot of fun, hell I'm about to join a street fighter rp when I get the chance to. Sorry but that claim doesn't count, also I wasn't calling anyone a weeaboo I was just clarifying that the term was created for good reasons.

There's nothing wrong with being defensive about what you like, I have to do it all the time as a superman fan. And I'll admit I'm a bit of a hater because of my bad experiences and I'm not ashamed of it.

I'm sorry if my ranting has upset you

The only person who killed anime for you is yourself for letting other people’s opinions affect your own personal enjoyment and admiration of an artform.

Everyone in this thread has heard you repeat the same course of whining over and over; we get the valid points you may have but at this point all you are is recycling your banter and your opinion has begun to weaken in credibility and validity.

Also, as a Sonic fan, you can go sod off.

was just clarifying that the term was created for good reasons.

Also, no it wasn’t. Weeaboo or whatever you want to call it was invented for bad reasons such as dividing the otaku community because they purists didn’t want certain types of people to be grouped in with them. It was devised as a form of fandom segregation. “Oh you aren’t a real fan of anime because you idealize and romanticize the culture as well as seem ‘random’ to make you seem unique.” – It’s rubbish.

The extremism of your views is just as bad as the supposed group you claim to dislike. You are also not on the defensive. You've been the one ranting and leading a campaign against anything anime.

In fantasy and science fiction nation-based roleplays: people expecting non-human species to abide by the human psychological model.

Far from subscribing heavily to the 'hard' science fiction archetype or Starfish Alien trope, when I construct a non-human species, I want them to be distinguishable from the human norm on a predominately mental level. This causes issues in nation roleplays when war is the topic of the OOC/IC(naturally), because you're going to run into people who insist that your aliens or fantasy species must follow in humanity's footsteps when it comes to thinking and waging martial campaigns. If you aren't running space fighters or using armored knights, a fit must be thrown.

Additional annoyance: roleplayers using the word 'race' to describe non-human sapient species native to science fiction and/or fantasy roleplays. I blame Tolkien for this one. The word only sticks if both members of the human and non-human species can produce viable young with one another (since this implies that both creatures possess enough mutual genetic material and shared-ancestry to procreate successfully); a six-limbed mantis-like extraterrestrial being that hails from the planet Zog is not a sub-variant of the human species, and therefore is not a 'race', but an entirely different species altogether.

Stop applying humanity's notions of race to non-human specimens; stop doing this stupid shit. Fuck.

All these RPGs getting canned right out of the gate (from what I'm seeing) is making me feel really unsure of staying on RPG.

I'm on my way out of here for many reasons, just gotta make a seamless transition.
Also, the lack of acknowledgement of player characters by other player characters in a story is to damn high. What's the point of roleplaying if nobody reacts to what your character does? Pff.

Perhaps you just are joining the wrong rps. Or the wrong GMs are in charge. Sometimes a change in management could go a long way in the right direction.

Some GMs just aren't that good at making sure the project goes through.

You'd be more than welcome on my thread. We have been running it off and on for 8 years and are just at a new reboot in it (it is an open world fantasy thread with a creature capture element).

I get the frustration, as it has happened to me before too. But is very much the groups you choose to participate with. As I did with Psyga, you'd be more than welcome. I spend a good amount of effort making sure my players are engaged and do have something to do (and are truly an impactful part of the story).

The site's community has taken a massive hammering though and several (including myself) have left for greener pastures. No offense to RPG, but this site is a former shell of what it once was and for many the amount of time that's passed since this new Guild was set up and the lack of updates or activity from any admins in the time since it's gone up, not to mention the various bugs, lack of features and general slowness of the site and lack of any optimism that it'll get better has convinced many people to leave. You can easily see how many of the forum's regulars have vanished. That's why a lot of rps aren't getting anywhere in comparison to what they used to. Of course that's not denying some people are just bad at GMing rps, but this is one of the primary reasons why things are becoming a ghost town. This site has taken a major hammering and I don't know if it'll ever get back to the way it was, at least not until it starts to resemble the forum it used to be and/or get the features and admin attention it desperately needs. But will it ever?

I only hang around this site for the Discussion topics now.

As a newbie to rp'ing who only discovered it several months ago thanks to my eccentric boyfriend who has also fled the RPG coup, I have noticed one thing. Some people are so unnecessary, and rude. For me this is merely something I enjoy, a past time. I'm not good at it and when I've got other things on my mind it shows in my posts, and I realise, and I apologise. That's why I don't join excessively busy rp's. But no need to be rude about it

Yeah, first off, might have jumped the gun on that. Two RPGs I know about had their GMs close it down, but not because of them, but because people signing up to them weren't getting the memo on stuff like tone.

after being a part of several rps where this has happened, I have determined that having jerky characters and douche bags is usually asking for someone to get pissed at your character and then you for making him or her, it keeps happening and then arguments break out which ruin the experience.

That's because some people don't know how to separate their roleplaying from reality.

I know but I find people are very sensitive on the Guild, which is why it just keeps happening. I think that's a problem with the Guild community

I never got people mad at me for making a jerk character. What I HAVE had happen, however, was that the jerk character was, despite still actively contributing to the arc villain's demise, utterly demonized and the rper never missed a chance to have their character inform other characters about the fact that my jerk was actually a Bad Guy. There was no way to fix it without metagaming, unfortunately, so after a few months I just went with it and made her into a villain.

Granted, this guy also did meet my intended (somewhat useless - think Frankenstein's monster, if he kept losing limbs) villain and upgraded her status to the local monster hunters, changing it from 'ehhhh kinda small scale just stay out of the way' to 'GLOBAL THREAT KILL IT WITH FIRE' after exploiting her to get an upgrade. He also used different characters for these encounters. So make of that what you will.

Depends on the character. I've had good characters who were complete and utter jerks, but no-one had a problem with them oocly. It all depends on the readers ability to realize it's just a character. Take for example a char in one of my Roleplays named Loretta. She's literally an evil maniacal bitch and everybody knows it. Everybody hates her, even I hate her. Doesn't mean me and the other players can't get along :P

Though I can see where you're coming at. It needs to be done right, if someones being a jerk for the sake of being a jerk and constantly in your characters face it can get a bit irritating.

What I've seen is that when someone has a character do a jerky thing then another player or the gm comes in to show them the consequences of their actions and then they get mad and bitch in the ooc. I just feel like people are way too sensitive on this site, maybe its just me being use to YouTube and having crazy arguments
