The solution is to quit playing with children.

Far too often for me the jerky characters often reflect prominent negative traits of the person controlling them.

I've seen people that play these types well without it going over - but those are far and few between.

This has been stated before, but I have a life, and Homework, and I can't freaking be on 24/7. A while back I once was kicked out of an RP because I wasn't on all the time. Well, I'm Sorry My ACTUAL life ruined your dream! Can we have GMs show leniency people! I understand we need to keep the RP going, and I don't mind being Metagamed unless I die or something horrible happens to me! Heck, If one of my users was sick, in the hospital, or at work/School and didn't notify me, I'd hold the RP and plan stuff or chill in OOC. That is IF I HAD ANY USERS! but that's another thing.

(Speaks in Russian accent) oh so sorry, the internet does not allow real life as an excuse, everything in your life must be about the Guild!

Lol sorry I couldn't help myself.

I give a lot of leeway. Real life comes before roleplay and wouldn't expect a GM to do anything otherwise. I tend to give people a lot of leeway, maybe less if they're in the thick off it. Recommend that the players move themselves out of the throng if they know they'll have issues but if they don't post for upto a week I don't insta go. I'll PM the player, give them a couple of days to throw a quick response and if nothing then I'll move their character off to the side. I'll only ever kill them if the players been gone for over a month or I can't find a way to get the character out off it.

Though I know what you mean, I see quite a few pushy Gms and I find it quite upsetting that all the big names from the OldGuild aren't around anymore, the ones who got a RP going and it kept going for ages.

Dramatic Word Vomit About Me Being Needy Like A Bitch

I'm in an RP I love, which has lasted for quite a long time when most RPs have died. In fact, it nearly died once, and I was one of the few people around who joined up when the GM wanted to bring it out of its coma. Thing is, it was a sandbox based off of a fandom I'm not too interested in, though the sandbox element interested me greatly initially. As the thing progressed, I've kept having to ramp up my enthusiasm time and time again, though it started to fall closer and closer into the original fandom. Now, it's close enough to the fandom that the people involved who know of it talk about the show constantly, and plan based loosely upon that...and I feel left out. There are instances that the story and plot is planned out in secret away from me by the bigger post contributors, and I've been left out and in the dark feeling like I'm being left behind. Every time a character from the show is introduced, me with my own interest OC feel like I'm getting less and less involved since I don't even know how to steer a canon NPC as I've always been careful about even lesser character depiction.

Due to the planning of the plot without me, much of my own character plans and development keeps getting squashed or put on the back burner. It's depressing, and brings me back to a depressing part of my life. I end up getting annoying trying to get plot spoilers, or trying to get involved and making stupid mistakes that someone who knows the canon in and out wouldn't. I get so worked up about details I don't understand inside and out, or things I've forgotten or didn't have clarity about, and become absolutely miserable about it. Still, I tried harder and harder to bring up my old enthusiasm, but it feels like less and less of my efforts are working and more and more of this is falling away from me. I fought with myself about this for a long while, but I'm not sure if I can last long enough in this RP without bringing negativity and feeling god awful here and there for my selfishness...augh, I'm just so so sorry I can't be happy about the direction of the RP like the rest of the small cast, who are entirely happy and enthusiastic.

So, a few days ago, I PMed the GM asking if I was really necessary to the RP...and asked about the possibility of dropping this thing. Part of me knows I could just settle, be happy, and write this thing...and another part of me tells me I'll make a fool out of myself, heck, even taking this whole thing too seriously is foolish, if not madness. Part of me argues that if the GM had just straight up asked me to stay with them, I'd be miserable...and then other part of me argues that if the GM just accepted my leave of this, I'd feel like the GM wasn't fighting for me to stay, didn't want me. Damned if I do, damned if I don't. Feel left out if I stay, actually be left out if I leave.

I was sure I'd be able to have the strength to l just leave the other day, offload my character plans to get it out of my system them write one last bit about my character leaving. But...after offloading the plans I was sure would never come to fruition in storyline, like so many others before it...the GM expressed wholehearted approval, and now I feel that damned hope. Hope, the one evil of the world that was smart enough to stay in the box and close to humans. The GM was told me plenty of time that my stuff was interesting, but for the most part, I've never executed the best stuff or settled for things that made my character feel less than themselves...and now, doubt has strung up like it always does, and now I'm doubting whether I was serious or seriously taking this all too seriously.

I don't know anymore, and I don't know what to do. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU--

Major, you're really killing yourself on this one. I don't know the exact situation because I lack the perspective and the attendance to the thread in question, but I think you're putting too much emphasis on the others. If you feel that this is something8 your life that's causing you pain, then leave. It isn't their choice, it's yours. Taking a roleplay seriously is not a crime, but staying when you feel like this is only hurting you. Nobody wins on that road. Believe me, there are a million roleplays out there and any one of then could be as good, make you feel better, include you more, and give you the fulfillment that every writer and roleplayer is looking for. You just gotta find it. :)

Mostly, I wouldn't join an RP about something I ings lurks about anyway. But that said, they could have done better by trying to keep you involved, and up to date about things.

Me and Paladin are different,I wouldn't hold an RP until they for back, but would try and make sure they are moved up to speed, when/if they return.

What annoys me? Players who make a powerful character that is somewhat out of place... but in my niceness I go "Look, you can have it but this won't happen." In this particular case a player was quite powerful in terms of combat, and while the RP had a certain combat element it wasn't the focus. So this player was basically used intimidation style and recently left as I was using him to deliver messages and intimidate those the messages was for in the process.

So he's left complaining he's never saw action when if I put him against the players he'd tear them all to shreds and I warned him this when joining. That is something I hate, that is what irks me. When someone wants a specialized character, I warn them. They go "okay I can live with it" then down the line they bitch and leave anyway.

Totally in agreement, Sep. I've seen it a hundred times. It's why I rarely join group RPs and will exclusively GM invite-only ones.

Yeah I'm no stranger to people making ridiculous characters and then wondering why no one wants to deal with them. If you make a character incredibly powerful, prepare for no one to want to willingly deal with you when they know they have no shot at it.

I find that rps with a good balance of action and storyline can last for good long time. Most rps I see die because they are never handled to well or just lack movement or move too quickly. My favorite rps almost always involve action with a great story.

Kind of minor I guess, but whenever I see "18+" or "mature" in the description of an RP I always assume the GM is neither.
