We do need a pilot.
Here's my shot. Let me know if you want/think something needs changing.
If accepted I'll do my best to get a post in the IC this time tomorrow so as not to hold things up.
Thanks.
Name: Edward McKenzie (Nicknames include Ed, Eddie, Ted, McKenzie and, very rarely, Teddie)
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Appearance:
LinkPersonality: Very assured in his abilities, confident but not overly boastful. He gets frustrated when others appear to fail at what they're supposed to be good at. He is happy to engage in conversation with the other crewmates but is distrustful at the same time. After all, everyone is a pirate and pirates are not to be trusted. Has become more laid-back after the addition of a dedicated navigator, "Red", taking some of the mental weight from him and allowing Ted to focus more on the piloting of the spaceship-that-has-no-name. Though this has lead to a lapse into a bit of a drinking tendancy and whenever things get too dull or repetitive on board the ship, Ted will happily explore the local night-life when the ship docks at a space system.
Skills: Piloting (of course). Going at speed and taking evasive manoeuvres are things learned from an early age and practised throughout his life. Having roamed space for a number of years, Ted is familiar with popular pirate locations for trading stolen goods, getting inside information and also laying low when required. Ted is also good with numbers, though the opportunity to put this to use has decreased somewhat after Kin, the Quartermaster, joined the ship. It is now mostly put to the important issue of ensuring he gets his fair share of any exploits. In addition, while not so much a skill as a sixth sense, he often knows when it's time to back out of a mission and make a swift getaway.
Equipment: Fairly minimal. A portable computer allowing him to connect with the outside world is his prized possession. He also has a collection of handguns from the time humans lived solely on Earth (some work, others are for show). Ted prefers to leave the fighting to others; he knows the best place for him to be is aboard the ship, ready to make a fast exit if things go south.
Brief Backstory: One of the original members of the crew, Ted was there to witness Iwakawa Yuriko winning the current spaceship (though he has disclosed the exact details to no-one so far). Having been an avid admirer of the ship himself, he imediately offered his services to the new captain to pilot the ship. After all, she was barely old enough to drive a land-based vehicle, let alone a spaceship! After some careful consideration he was accepted to the crew.
Up until that point Ted had been a reliable getaway pilot for other pirate ships in nearby space systems, spending a couple of years with a ship before moving on to the next. Any job that paid well and filled the adrenaline rush of going at high speed was his first choice.
In his youth Ted had been a promising racing talent, first on land and then in space. However the allure of money proved too great and he got involved with various illegal race-fixing incidents. Eventually caught and disqualified from racing anywhere near his local space system, Ted left to get involved with space piracy, using some of his shady connections at the time, knowing that an ordinary day-job would just not cut it for him.
What keeps him with the current crew is the ship, mainly, but also the surprisingly good payouts for a relatively new band of pirates, lead by a comparitively inexperienced captain.
