Interest Hook

The year is 201X. Earth is besieged on all sides by hostile forces intent on conquering, enslaving, eating, and/or destroying the world. Alien invaders, alternate dimensional conquerors, corrupt extremist military branches, terrorist cells, monsters of the week, evil mad scientists, rampaging AIs, demonic forces of dark kingdoms/empires/republics, and other such dastardly threats are threatening the world with weapons of mass destruction. For the most part, regular forces and armies cannot stand up against these gigantic menaces who all field their own version of either giant creatures or mechas to terrorize the Terran populace.

Yet Mother Earth is not without its defenders. Spurned on by the excessive amounts of threats besieging the blue planet, various individuals of needed talent, intellect, power, ability, and skill are congregating together and pooling their resources to act as an autonomous threat response organization composed of specialized experts in their various fields-codenamed Custodians. Fielding blackbox technology, supernatural powers, skilled pilots, powerful mecha, and other such assets of their own, the Custodians now head into battle against the amassed evils from both within and without the Earth sphere to take back the pure and blue world they love.
Essentially a game very much inspired by the various mecha based media such as Gundam, Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, Mazinger, and Megas XLR. Pretty much intended in the manner of Super Robot Wars Original Generation, where players come up with their own mecha and pilot.

Yyyyep, I'm here. Where do you draw the line on drawing inspiration from pre-existing mecha/pilots/etc. I'd imagine that outright transplants are out, but how are you on expies or functional copies?

Pilot

Name: Minami Minako

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Appearance: Her hair is black, she has green eyes, a black-and-white jacket with a yellow... insignia... thingy, light but not pale skintone, the case is silver.

Personality: Minako is kind of an aloof girl. Having lost her parents when she was young, she lacks a close bond with her other family members, with the exception of her younger sister. She cares about them to some extent, but she never got very close to them. As such, she lacks experience with a real family... with the exception of her younger sister. Minako is also a rather cocky girl who has no issues with resorting to violence if she feels like it's necessary, and very few qualms with somewhat illegal activities, having spent her life as a street-crawling delinquent. If she needs to beat the hell out of someone to reach her goals, she has no problem with that. Even before she had a real purpose she tended to go out at night and stir up trouble. Minako's not the kind of person to go listening to others, blowing off any advice or attempts to help unless she immediately sees how it could benefit her. That said, if someone gets close to her they'll be able to make her listen. She cares very deeply for her sister and wishes to make sure she's safe and unharmed, and if anyone manages to get close to her she'll be protective of them as well. Minako is determined to find her sister and won't let anything get in her way. Minako has a short temper and a lack of patience. If someone isn't directly telling her information she needs she'll just get more and more annoyed with them, for example.

Brief Backstory: When both Minako and her sister, Chiharu, were very young, their parents were killed in what was seemingly an accident. From there, they were shuttled to various relatives, and while Minako grew to care about them... somewhat, she never got very attached. This was in opposition to Chiharu, who became quite attached to her various family members while Minako only felt attachment to her. Minako became quite the delinquent, going out at night and using a baseball bat as her weapon of choice. Shortly after turning fifteen, Chiharu happily announced she was being enrolled in a somewhat-distant academy. While Minako disliked being separated from her, she didn't want to stop her sister. At first, the letters flowed in sometimes even more then once a week... And then they began to take a worrying bent. Chiharu seemed concerned about something. Shortly after the letters stopped coming at all. And never resumed. Minako grew more and more worried, until she could finally take it no longer. Before leaving, she paid a visit to her parent's home. She had never known them very well, but it felt like the right thing to do. It was there, in the rubble, that Minako discovered a silver case... and inside it, a strange gold sword. Taking the sword for herself, desiring to find her sister and discover what happened to her parents, Minako set out first to the Academy, and then to search in general. It was not long into the search before she was lead to an unusual facility... and within, she discovered an immense machine that responded to the weapon she'd discovered as if it was a key.

Skills: Minako is a capable and even somewhat-skilled fighter with melee weapons, chiefly the sword she discovered in the ruins of her parent's home. She's a good sprinter, as well.

Abilities: Nothing, as far as she knows.

Mecha

Name: Strike Vermilion

Type: Real/Super(features some things that fit both types)

Appearance: "ALL SYSTEMS GO YOU BASTARDS! HERE I COME!"

Specifications: Strike Vermilion's purpose is not precisely known by its pilot. However, it is evident that the mecha is a fast melee fighter designed to overtake opponents and deal heavy damage with melee attacks.

Equipment System: Strike Vermilion is equipped with only one clear weapon, a huge, incredibly sharp sword. The blade is mounted on a solid pole of metal, and appears to be able to slide up and down it, though Minako has no idea why since she cannot get it to move. The mecha has decent armor and shielding, but it's not particularly excessive and against hard-hitting attacks the best option is dodging, which it is equipped fairly well to do. It possesses a pair of boosters mounted on its back allowing for rapid movement forward or upward, and on the bottom of its feet there are spikes that spin rapidly for greater traction. Strike Vermilion may possess further systems, but Minako has no idea how to access them if this is the case. For the moment, she pilots it from inside the chest, a large chamber filled with wires. The wires attach to Minako's pilot suit and are how she controls Strike Vermilion. To access the cockpit, Minako must use her sword as something of a key.

As long as it's based more on the first half of the series than the second half, it should be fine I guess.

It'll be something like... second half outside of a mecha, Parallel Works 8 inside a mecha. Difficult to describe. Just forewarning before anyone freaks out at the sight of the phrase "reality warping."

My character won't be doing any. The Spiral Energy knockoff I'll be writing in will have the potential to warp reality. Y'know, like the source material. This is the reason I wantes to discuss this beforehand.

To be fair, you were being a bit ambiguous there and just vaguely alluded to reality warping, so even with the mention of Gurren Lagann before, um... But yeah, if it's just a potentially omnipotent powersource like the Getter Rays or Spiral Energy or the Ide (oh god that would be horrendous XD) then that would be fine. Just no chucking galaxies about like frisbees from the get-go, okay? XD

To be honest I'll be the first to admit that I am not especially good at this GMing lark, and really the main reason I'm co-GM is that GS knows that I dig giant robots. ^^;

Pilot

Name: Gene Cyrus

Age: 14

Gender: Male

Appearance: A smallish boy, Gene is short for his age, with a somewhat scrawny build. His albinism, the cause of his milky skin and white hair, only adds to his somewhat fragile appearance; he almost gives off the impression of a porcelain doll that might break at a touch. The alien energy that has manifested within his body has changed the structure of his irises and given them an ethereal, green glow, which intensifies as he channels his power. He dresses drably, his usual attire consisting of a short-sleeved undershirt, an oversized hoodie, comfortable shorts and well-worn skateboarding sneakers.

Personality: Gene is a boy who feels and acts as though he has much to prove. He speaks and acts boldly, seemingly well-assured in his power and skills. Some call this overconfidence (bordering on arrogance) childish, while others call it impetuous. Precocious as a rule, he tends to inject himself into conversations and events, eager to demonstrate his intelligence or abilities. Gene has very little patience, and is very easy to rile up, which often results in him forsaking his oft-touted intellect for more instinctual tactics, which works almost entirely to his detriment. Even though he often claims superiority over others, Gene is somewhat emotionally needy and dependant, with a tendency to cling to people. Despite all of his shortcomings, however, Gene genuinely wishes to help people, and once his loyalty has been won, he will be at a person's side for as long as he lives.

Brief Backstory: The genius offspring of two well-known scientists, Gene had a lonely childhood. Practically ignored by his parents in favor of their careers, and an outcast among children his age due to his intelligence, Gene spent his developing years alone with books and puzzles. He read day and night, solving complex equations and riddles of physics to amuse himself. Gene soaked up information like a sponge, and so the curriculum of the prestigious private school he attended was a trifling matter to him. His isolation eventually resulted in Gene developing a superiority complex as a way to cope with his loneliness; he wasn't alone because they disliked him, it was because they were below him. The only company he kept were the small, exotic pets that his parents continually sent to him as "souvenirs" of their travels, which he dutifully and lovingly cared for.

In his last year of middle school, Gene was abroad in America with his parents for a keynote speech on genetic engineering (unbeknownst to him related to the Custodian project) for a weekend. However, disaster struck as the city hosting the conference was subjected to an extraterrestrial attack. The attack was devastating, with one of the greatest casualty counts in recent history, Gene's parents among them. Gene himself, however, managed to survive by pure random chance; a support pillar and rubble protecting him from the invasion for the six hours until it subsided.

Venturing out into the ruins for any sign of life, Gene stumbled upon a piece of alien technology that was struck into the ground like a meteor. The curious artifact, resembling a human face, radiated a strange energy that drew Gene to it like a moth to flame. Though as soon as his hands laid on it, that same energy raged through him, and was infused into him. Gene's body was stricken of pigment, the energy (now known as PSI) permanently branding him as its wielder. Gene found that with this power came the instinctive ability to activate and control the artifact, which was actually a mecha the size of a small car.

Eventually recovered and returned home, Gene had the miniature mecha smuggled back to his personal laboratory in his parents' home, where he experimented both on it and himself. Slowly he began to learn to wield the PSI energy in its raw form, and how the small mecha powered by it functioned. As he explored the relationship between energy and machine, he began to glimpse the near-limitless applications of this otherworldly power, and its potential. Upgrading the mecha according to his own specifications, Gene struck out on his own for a month to test his skills against unsavory elements in his home country, before eventually being a part of the Custodian program.

Skills: Gene is without a doubt a genius. His memory and calculative abilities both border on the superhuman, and even at his young age he has doctorate-level knowledge in such fields as aerospace engineering, quantum physics and neurobiology, among several others. He is not merely an empty-headed academic, however, as he is capable of combining and applying this knowledge in such fields as xenobiology and theoretical weapons development.

Abilities: Gene's body and mind are both infused with a strange energy that Gene has dubbed PSI (an acronym for an absurd scientific designation of his own creation that could fill half a page). While the potential applications of PSI are staggering, given that the energy openly defies such theories as thermodynamics and relativity, Gene can only wield the power in its purest form in a few specific ways. The raw energy can be harnessed in a volatile form resembling fire or lightning, and used for basic offensive techniques. If channeled through his body, PSI can be used to temporarily grant Gene superhuman strength or durability. PSI can also be projected into a solidified form, creating simple geometric constructs that can be maintained through concentration. Gene's control over this power is far from perfect, and seems to be strongly tied to his (irrational teenage) emotions.
Mecha

Name: Tyrant

Type: Super Robot

Appearance: Sleek, dark and menacing, the Tyrant stands roughly fifteen meters tall, but is surprisingly lightweight, even for a mecha of its relatively small size. Supporting this, its frame is quite slim, with a thin torso and limbs, and very little bulky armor. The eyes and various PSI energy ports of the Tyrant glow with the energy's distinctive green hue, contrasting with the black, red and dark grey color scheme of the mecha.

Specifications: As agile as its appearance would suggest, the Tyrant is shockingly fast and agile, making it an ideal striker-type mecha. The Tyrant can close in on its enemies with lightning speed and tear them apart with its ruthless close-combat abilities.

Equipment System: The Tyrant is powered by a core of alien design, upgraded and integrated with a larger body by Gene. This power core is fueled entirely by the PSI energy of its pilot, meaning that only Gene can pilot the Tyrant, but the mecha is also subject to fluctuate in performance given Gene's control over his power. While not terribly durable, the Tyrant's armor is comprised of a reverse-engineered alien alloy, which repels small arms fire well enough, though not anything much larger, with the exception of energy-based attacks, which it seems to completely deflect. The armaments of the Tyrant are largely melee-based, given its sharp claws and whiplike tail, though its primary weapons are more complex.

The Tyrant essentially possesses the same abilities as Gene, though with greater control over them, and at a larger scale. The various PSI energy ports on its body can be used to fire energy bolts of varying power and accuracy, though the mecha generally trades range for power regarding its shots; more powerful blasts are shotgun-like and far less effective at longer ranges. The Tyrant can create PSI energy constructs for itself to use as weapons, ranging from such implements as shields, swords and spears, though whips are Gene's weapon of choice. At the moment, Gene cannot maintain more than two constructs at once with the Tyrant, but he can infuse his constructs with more volatile PSI energy, giving them the power of "typical" energy weapons. The alien alloys the Tyrant is constructed from gives it immunity to this destructive PSI energy, and the mecha can repair itself in a surprisingly organic manner when given direct infusions of energy to its damaged systems.

Curiously, the Tyrant sometimes displays what can only be described as autonomous behavior. Reacting to attacks Gene himself was not aware of, responding to commands even without power, or even behaving contrary to its controls, such occurrences are frequent enough to not be overlooked by Gene as flukes. Whether this is the result of unknown systems within the reverse-engineered alien core, a remnant of some manner of AI, or some additional facet of the mysterious PSI energy, none are yet sure.

“I don't have time for this. I won't back down here!”

Name: Colby Barnett

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Appearance: Skin roasted to perfection by good genetics, Colby is a man with a toasted complexion. He has silver haired from the bonding that he shares with Gilgamesh(Mecha). He's tall for his age, standing at about 6'1” with an athletic build from his time fighting in wars. His dark eyes are guarded, his face strong; it wouldn't be too far off to call him the leaderesque type. When the story begins, he'll be wearing a high-collared black shirt that reveals his torso. Black trousers rolled up so that his ankles are visible, and black-wooden sandals that clack with his steps. He carries a necklace around that he'd literally kill for.

Personality: Rough around the edges, straightforward, and brutish would be the right words to describe Colby. Since his childhood days, he had always been the go-to guy when things got bad. And with his enduring personality taking the bulk of his being, it goes without saying he's a enduring type of man. His courageous heart is often guarded with cautious words that he himself would never follow, but he's one for defending those that can't themselves. And while being rough around the edges, he's also warm and tender to those that need it.

Brief Backstory: Raised in a parallel verse, where race wars have spurred out of control, Colby was the interracial child of two people who disregarded the sides. He grew up in the slums of a dystopia, begging for a chance to make something out of his life. When that chance came in the form of a new friend, he was quick to take it. He was soon adopted by a prestigious family whose goal was meager compared to the problems surrounding them. They wanted to refocus the attention of humanity from race and back onto dreams and goals.

Through his school years, Colby was ostracized, for along with the splitting of cultures, came the splitting of schools. It was only due to the Barnett family's prestige that he was allowed to attend the all-white school. However, it seemed like he wasn't the only of his kind there. Other students, who operated in secret were also interracial. After standing up for himself in a big way at a soccer game, he was invited to join them and learned of their own revolutionary ways.

Through a slew of unconventional events, he ran into “Project G.”; his adopted father's life work, a concept that spanned three-hundred years. Project G, also known as Project Gilgamesh was a mobile suit built to halt the militant direction that the wars were heading in. However, due to the original creator's untimely passing and his adopted father being the only other scientist to be produced, it had taken centuries to finish. When Colby stumbled upon it, the machine glowed very brightly then spat out a tear shaped jewel from its chest. Upon grabbing it, digitek lines rolled throughout the jewel, branding him as it operator and injecting him with something inexplicable.

After realizing the machine had chosen Colby, instead of his original son, who had been taught the skills to use it, the man quickly readjusted his plans to suit Colby instead. After eight months of training, he endured five months of actual combat and steadily grew stronger. In the process, he lost his adopted brother and mother. When things grew bleak and Colby felt things were impossible for humanity, a being appeared asking for help and dropped him in a different realm.

Skills: Mobile Suit piloting and melee combat is just about all that he's good for. The anarchy in his own time had put him a few notches above most just because of those skills. He's also extremely renowned for having a sixth sense for perceiving the dangers around him. Its something he takes great pride in.

Abilities: Being a latent Bridge, a being whose eyes has developed to greater extent due to the hazy pollution in the world; Colby has a phenomenal degree of eyesight. He can see the small changes in things that even the greatest of snipers would have a hard time noticing. Though this is just the most notable change. Its said that a Bridge has a extra section in their brain dedicated to survival.

Mecha

Name: PG-000 Mobile Suit Gilgamesh

Type: Real & Super Robot

Appearance: Gilgamesh was developed by Ricky Barnett VII, the namesake of its original creator Ricky Barnett Jr. It looms over buildings with a 20 meter height. It is plated with a synthetic gold-colored mineral. His main body is covered in this and only the four crimson thruster-wings outshell is of a different make. Its is draconian in appearance, jade green eyes glowing when activated.

Specifications: PG-000, Mobile Suit Gilgamesh, was created to keep the progressing militants of the After Race Reform from destroying each other. The process was a grueling manner after anarchy had took down the Government but due to the Barnett family's indomitable work ethic, they completed the suit three-hundred years later. It mobility and strength was impressive for its time but its thrust capabilities were even more so. The most incredible feat was the creation of beam technology and its uses in the mobile suit.

Equipment System: The cockpit is fitted with a panoramic, 360 degree monitor that allows full mobility and vision inside. Along with this, it is equipped with two beam sabers, vulcan guns situated on its head, non-optional shields on its forearms, and a high-powered beam rifle located on its left hip. The beam rifle is excessively strong and drains the suit's power source within five shots.

The high-maneuver wings can be unfolded for increased maneuverability in both air and space combat. The machine has never been in space but Ricky Barnett VII could only assume that his ancestor had some connections in the colonies floating above the earth. It uses the Hero OS system which incorporates accommodations for novice pilots and improvising suggestions for greater success.

The Hero OS also hides secret blueprints for RBJR-0XX Mobile Suit Hero which through certain experiences and conditions will be revealed and unraveled.

Going to hopefully go over stuff with GS later today, but at the very least I'll say that a divine mecha isn't really farfetched, since Brave Raideen (for example) was literally a deity, and mystical powersources and backgrounds tend to show up in the super robot genre more often than you'd expect.
