Odd question, how useful would this be, if you had someone trained in its operation?

Granted, the different FM-Doppler returns (in audio) will likely sound a bit more alien when trying to ID them... but that's what refresher-training is for.
-I'm figuring the hyped field-sensor integration of Future Force Warrior hinged on being able to give such intel to low-level commanders in a timely enough manner that the precision of knowing when there is movement on top of a particular building would be useful to a counter-sniper team; rather than a mortar-battery.

This is really just an upgraded AN/PPS-15...
-I'm sure tall-grass and thick forests could hinder its usefulness, though. Which is why it's mostly base-security and used on defoliated sections of land.
-As a tool to use in the assault of a specific small objective, UAVs are likely better.

Ground Surveillance Radar (GSR) is best when used in the defense. Assuming the PMC is deployed in some hardened base of operations, GSR would be deployed inside the compound as an early warning against a possible attack. You couple GSR with random force protection patrols into the hinterland, mounted and dismounted. More than likely, any mounted and dismounted patrols would go out as a result of some indication from a GSR or an observation by an Air Asset.

It may be worth our whiles to take second characters and fill out a second fire team. Thoughts on this idea?

To round out the squad. Perhaps NPC's work just as well.

Depends on whether the squad is constantly integral to our unit, or is merely attached to our squad for special purposes.
-If they're just nameless faces that we'll only see for a few posts before their faces get melted, then NPC.

I was under the impression that the war has been ongoing for some time and we are reinforcements in some way (as the PMC is already well-established). Perhaps as a force-multiplier for a remnant platoon of Grathnik drones and the first wave of non-elite human mercenaries?
In that case Heyseuss would control the drones of the platoon while Gunther gets the men.

-Not sure how accurate this is, being a History-chan special. But the 6th Wisconsin was "the other flank" at Gettysburg, 1400 vs 4500 on Culp's hill.

Out of curiosity, when do we start the RP? I don't mean to pry or rush if I come across as such.

Hey Seuss is correct. Since this is first contact, we should have nine characters PC/NPC going into this first OP. If you want to have a GPMG team, AT team or FO team attached that would be appropriate as well. Each team is two men per. Foster, if you'd like I can share the Battalion organization with you. I didn't want to post it in this thread because it might overwhelm some writers.

Draw attention to my sig. Thurs - Sun are good with me. Mon - Wed, I get pretty busy. Also, I am in 4 or 5 other RPs and have four children. So life gets pretty hectic. If you are looking for daily posts, my apologies. I cannot keep up with that rate in one RP, let alone five.

Well, there are no other human mercenaries. The Grathik went and grabbed elite humans from the getgo because they needed a force multiplier, and they didn't want to grab divisions and divisions of human troops. Since the contractor community tends to keep to itself, they decided to pick exceptional specimens out of that community on the idea that saying they went to Uzbekistan (a country known for clamping down on media reports and the such) would help cover the activity. Maybe not completely, but they didn't want to spook humanity with disappearances.

Also, start small, make the first wave of elite mercs very rich and Humans will be signing up for a tour afterward, assuming they come back.

It is 0 degrees Fahrenheit (-18C) here in Southeastern Massachusetts this morning, but feels like -18F (-28C) with the wind. I'm heading out for a run. Will probably only do a mile. The key ingredient is the masque over the face.

It's -30F with windchill in Chicago. It's kind of thought provoking to think about how if I go outside without a jacket for a bit, my life would be at risk.

I prefer a scarf wrapped once over forehead and then locked in place with a wrap around the face. Add hat or a third wrap for top.
-Downside: either makes turning your head a bit stiff, or eventually comes undone; may leave an exposed space at back of head.
-Upside: Covers ears, face, neck, and everything between the brim of your hat and your eyebrows, will not fog-up glasses.

News claims -40 windchill here.
*Walking 3 miles in this sort of blizzard (it just dumped a foot of snow) usually results in frost accumulating on scarf, seems to make some people nervous when I walk in as-such as they're preparing to leave.

It's only -10. The news reporters should learn to wear a hat. I showed-up to work in a windbreaker and a sweater. Removed sweater.
-The important thing to counter windchill is to cover all exposed areas with something that cannot be ever described as 'breezy'.

Oh, and I'll be sure to get Marlena some training on the M72 so she can bring two to the fight.

1. Extend the tube quickly and forcefully.
2. place weapon on shoulder and peer through rear site and aim based on the gradient lines on front site.
3. Look to your rear and shout, "Back Blast Area All Clear!" in training. In wartime, if someone is standnig back there, they should know better. This is something all cruits learn in training.
4. Once your target is sited in, squeeze and hold the black rubber trigger which is depressed into the tube. Keep the rocket launcher pointed at your target. It may take a second and a half for the rocket to fire.
5. Once the missile as left the tube, toss the tube aside and watch to see if your shot made any impact.

Meta-refresh.

Also wondering if the grenadier should carry a Gustav instead of a 'nader (iirc, a grenade-launcher munition weighs a third of' an actual rifle/hand-grenade, or that is where one reaches the break-even point in terms of mass carried).

It really depends on whether or not we expect to be overmatched with hard targets that are LAW-worthy since IIRC an 84mm shell is lighter and more capable than an all-up LAW.

*checks*

Nope (LAW is 2.5kg), but the shells do each weigh half an AT-4 (3.1kg vs ~6.5kg).

Launcher weighs about 8.5 kg so break-even point of AT-4s and a Carl is about 4 shells.

-Although the 5 kg LRAC F1 is just balls-crazy light when it fires 2.2kg shells. But would have a mass-per-shell break-even point of about 15-20 shells against a LAW. Meaning each person in the team would have to carry at least two shells or more to make it worthwhile to bring one along.
A stripped-down RPG-7 (no scope) has similar problem.

The decidedly French solution appears to have been to issue spigot-mortars, although I reckon hey're shifting to 40mm grenade-launchers.

Meanwhile the numbers on the SMAW look pretty bad as a weapon to carry. 12kg tube plus ~7 kg per round (the Confined-space shells weigh 9 kg). When the ammo-canister weighs nearly or more than the weight of a disposable launcher of same caliber and range, with sights, it better deliver in terms of capability.
