So what's new?

A lot, so much that I can barely keep up, doesn't help I was not on often for the last week or two. Seriously, someone please put me up to speed here.

Not all that much has actually happened, but there are 28 different accounts of a fairly short story posted to the IC. Basically Geni let slip he was once with the White Fang. Ivan being the ass he is got angry, Geni started a fight. A bunch of people picked sides but Amy and Sapphire managed to stop it before any lasting damage could be done. Geni ashamed of almost attacking another student ran from the room. Sapphire followed but before she could sort out what was going on with him the teacher showed up to have words with Geni, he ordered Sapphire back to class. She pretended to follow orders but snuck back with her unnoticeable semblance active in order to eavesdrop. Now we're just waiting on the teacher to start reprimanding Geni. I haven't been reading what's going down in Grimm Studies cause well, I got enough to go through in the Armoury class and Sapphire wouldn't know about anything in GS anyways.

This is literally just first day of class and Geni let slip being part of the White Fang and there's so much drama. Guys, you're causing needless drama. This is like getting all the plot twists and drama in the first episode of a show. Actually that's literally what is happening here.

Yeah, these guys suck at keeping secrets. I'm pretty sure one of them already revealed she forged her entry and one of them is a princess or something like that.

Yeah no kidding, that's why I'm saving Sapphire's backstory for a raining day.

Jack has no super secret or anything, he's all about his development from a tactless smartass into something greater. Like most characters his age should be going through.

Not particularly, it's setting up for conflict between the characters that will last for quite a while! Geni tried to attack Ivan so Ivan is not going to easily forget that. Not to mention the amount of people in the class who are either backing up Ivan or Geni. It's creating a conflict that won't be easily resolved and yes, I suppose it was perhaps a little too dramatic for the first day but it should lead to some interesting interactions between certain characters!

You guys skipped tension and went into breaking point to events in-between. There was absolutely no build up to this. You can STILL show this conflict through words and expressions and subtle actions. I'm honestly not sure on all the details, but letting slip being part of a terrorist organization so early is like throwing out your ace. What could've happened is that Geni finds out so and so has a passionate hate for the White Fang instead. With that, their interactions could be a little awkward, but maybe they become friends. You're going to have to bring that up with Loki because everyone was just reacting to that. I do prefer it the way you put it but does that not sound a lot like what happened in RWBY between Blake and Weiss? Granted, they weren't the best of friends but they got along and then Blake dropped the White Fang bomb. I guess it's over and done with now so we'll see where it goes!

With Blake and Weiss, it was somewhat needless. Blake may be a Faunus, and she could easily pass off as just another Faunus, but decided to bundle White Fang into her reasons. The reason was also because plot, plot conveniently needed the RWBY team to be connected to the happenings at the time concerning the White Fang. It's not the description of events that matters, but the purpose of it. Having random drama for the sake of drama is the worst kind of drama, because no one needs it or wants it. Reasons you can have are for development (which is very loose, even now and even in blockbuster movies there is a lot of drama that really didn't need to happen) and progression (which is what happened with Blake and Weiss... Although with some needlessness, so not perfectly done). Now it's not my business to tell them to change it. They can go ahead and do badly written character development for all I care. But at the very least, let me inform them that they could definitely do far better.

And yes. It's good to establish some relationships such as rivalries or nemesis, or just plain hatred, but not enact them so soon. If it is within the characters and setting to fight very soon then it is okay (eg. character A is overly aggressive and is often troubled, or school allows fights). Before you say anything, remember that Beacon preaches team work amongst Hunters, due to its purpose. Fighting one another for the sake of petty reasons, or internal conflicts in general, are heavily frowned upon. But that aside, my earlier question had not been addressed. Do teams have to participate in the same class for subjects that are compulsory such as Armory and Grimm Studies? Or am I free to just go where there are fewer people? I feel like canonically it's the former.

Nope! Grimm Studies and Armory are non-compulsory, actually, and teams can split up for them if they so please. For instance, all members of SASG are in Armory except for Abel, who is in Grimm Studies. @Psyrencalling We're waiting for you, I think.

A lot of foul, crude and simple language peppered into nearly everything we say? Yep. I liked Generation Kill but I think it's not the most accurate representation of us nowadays.
