Ok, the purpose of this thread is simple... Eventually, as the guild's tag system evolves, more and more requests will come in for fairly unique tags. Rather than constantly cluttering @Mahz Dev Journal with said requests, we figure it would be good to have a single topic where people can request tags, and of course potentially discuss the merits of whether a certain fandom/theme/goblin should get its own tag.

Recently proposed by @Mahz is the system of having a small set of official guild tags that are fairly static, defining the general category of an RP. These tags would define what level of writing is expected in an RP (Free, casual, Advanced), whether it is a regular RP with single characters, a nation, an arena match, a 1x1, or such, and the general genre of the RP (Sci-fi, Fantasy, Anime, Fandom, etc.)

The second system of tags, which would be subordinate to this is will be community-defined. This can be anything from established universes like Star Wars, Mass Effect & DC Comics to the stranger stuff like Jupiter, Birthing and ReverseBirthing (Ask @Mahz what that is if you want to know. It was his idea). In essence, whatever the community wants.

But to keep the community tag system viable and not bloated with tags that only have 1-2 RPs to them, which would not help a search function much, the tags would be moderated, either through an approval system, or through other means. Ideas for how that is best done are very welcome.

Anyways, on to the tags that have been suggested.

Some fandom-specific genres have also been suggested:
Star Wars
Marvel comics
DC comics
Pokemon
Elder Scrolls
Mass effect
Harry Potter

There has also been suggested a type of "tonal" tags, to define what sort of story in a certain setting it is. For example, a fantasy RP can be both comedic, grim and epic.

Players might want to find RPs that do their best to stick to Canon fandom, or perhaps they'd rather avoid messing with Canon or other things like that. The following suggestions cover that.

Have any other suggestions? Don't hesitate to post them.

Of course, I have to suggest a Superhumans tag. For RPs that feature Supahpowahs and shit.

We threw that one, and a few others into the list for suggestions, as well as setting up a rough system for it.

"Horror" or something along those lines. There just doesn't seem like a genre for anything that uses demons and monsters. You could argue fantasy would cover that but if you look at something like a Warhammer 40,000 RP where they are fighting Tyranids or Chaos Marines, I think that would fit into a more horror genre than a fantasy one.

Just to clarify,@Mr Allen J... What do you mean by realistic? The word is fairly wide in reach. At minumum, it can fit in under all of these tags: Modern, Sci-fi, Slice of Life, School, Historical, Nation, Arena, Military, Romance And probably even more. added Horror to the suggested genre list,@NuttsnBolts.

That seems a bit too specific. perhaps a "Sneaky business" tag would be better?

I'm surprised Crossover is not a tag considering how popular it is.

added most of those above as suggestions. We personally think having a high-casual tag is wrong. High casual is advanced in everything but name. It was a moniker established back when Advanced was plagued with some elitist jerks. These days, advanced is plagued with too limited activity.

Should we also add tonal tags? Like whether an RPG will be dark or not?

That is always an option... Might be just as important as sub-genres for tags like Sci-fi/anime/etc.. But maybe such will have to come later, when the tag system is more developed? some thoughts for tonals: Dark / light / grim / sparkly / child-friendly / Psychological / Sneaky / straightforward / Comedic What do you think, @Mahz?

@Ellri: Not sure. In general I'm reluctant to create tags that we only *think* we need. I'd rather focus on the tags people actually want to use while ensuring enough of the community would want them as well.

Yeah. I'd probably stick with general stuff like 'light', 'dark' and possibly 'Comedic'.

supernatural, paranormal and superhuman kinda overlap, but not sure which one of those three would be best. True,@Psyga315. We just threw together a quick list there of tags that could make sense. We'd love to have input from more about how the tags should be organized. The extensions suggested to the tag system in the OP are just a suggestion. It isn't set in stone.

Perhaps something to do with settings (which both western and modern can hint at, though they are also genres)? Examples might be: Medieval, Ancient World, Victorian, Earth, Alien Planet. (Admittedly, I'm mostly thinking for fantasy/sci-fi, though the first three could work for historical as well.)

Also, I think at the very least the tonal tags of light, dark, comedic would be useful.
