I agree with Rin on this one. Tags help with almost anything. I can see a bit of redundancy with a casual tag in a casual forum, but other than that, I don't see any downpoints.

I am pretty sure most people would prefer convenience over aesthetics any day. And maybe they'll eventually be fixed up to look more aesthetically pleasing at some point, but for now getting rid of them completely just because you think "they're ugly" is... Kind of a little petty, for one thing.

The only thing that can be done that is aesthetically pleasing is to remove them or give people the option to hide those ugly abominations of nature.

Eh, I don't even mind those ones. I mean, it's not visible when you're browsing the casual section, and with the Latest Checks/Roleplays things on the front page, it's a little bit helpful.

I snickered. I can see where you're coming from, though. Archive Of Our Own has tags. Most times, these tags help people find stories they want. Other times, the tags contribute nothing more than mere "comments", much like Tumblr or as you pointed out, bumper stickers.

However, with enough moderation, I could see the tag system be used at a healthy degree.

To actually contribute to this thread, has anyone suggested 'Mystery' for a genre tag? I also feel there should be an 'Antagonist' tag - for rps where the aim is to play as a traditional villain or antagonist, though I don't know if this would go under genre or tonal.

The closest suggestion to mystery is the "paranormal" one.

Hero, Antagonist, anti-hero and such would kinda be another type of tagging. Having just Antagonist kinda removes the depth necessary, but at the same time we wouldn't want too many tags.

I might not be the only one, but I think an "Animal" or "Natural World" tag could be used for RPs exclusively revolving around animals-- wolves seem to be popular.
