If it wouldn't potentially cause a lot of mayhem, I would be cool to use trophies at the end of RPs. Some like, MVP, Most Awesome Moment, Best Character. Things like that. Up to the GM of course.

Or if we had yearly Guild Awards.

Not sure whether giving trophies to GMs to distribute would be a good idea. Too many people with their own personal standards each - such trophies would be arbitrary at best. Besides, RPs themselves shouldn't turn into competitions.

Hey Mahz, I haven't been to the site in awhile, due to my....military adventure, LOL. But I come back to a site reminiscent of the old guild! Way to go, keep up the good work!

How will the trophy system be integrated when a user has multiple accounts that are connected in the future?

Jorick did that for one of our Game of Thrones RPs. Although if I remember correctly our MVP award was for Most Verbose Player.

Damn phone keeps dropping the internet. But. in short(not trusting this phone), it probably wouldn't be a bad idea, it a bit arbitrary. There wouldn't be any need for the GMs to HAVE to do.it, and could be looked as as more of a recognition for a job well done in addition to completing the roleplay. Like looking at it and going "I got that for my character in "Allaria: A classical fantasy."

perhaps there should some sort of limits to unlock awards in RPs? RP Post count, Time since RP start, RP finish, etc? The more numerous posts, longer duration etc. an RP has, the more awards a GM "unlocks"?

If its all free from the start, you'll start getting people creating filler RPs simply to get themselves awards.

Parameters should probably vary a bit between free, casual and advanced, but not sure entirely how, or how much.

and to open a dangerous, but somewhat important, can of worms:
Whats to stop GMs from things like "n+ trophies required to join"?

It's pretty open ended, but nothing is impossible. Who knows what the trophy system or the multi-account system will look like in a few months.

These are fun ideas. Reminds me of Goldeneye's multiplayer awards. I was under the impression that it's extremely rare for a roleplay to even reach an end/conclusion beyond just fizzling out.

I should introduce a Goblin Engineering trophy and award it to Ellri for consistently coming up with the most sophisticated contraptions.

Nothing, really. But that's not stopping people from doing that now. Requiring X number of RPs participated in before joining. albeit I have seen anyone doing that so I'm assuming its safe. GMs would harm themselves more doing that anyway.

ruby. scratch what I said. hahaha.

Mahz they are, but these could help them survive, or even be given out at a death.

This would be much easier to do once (if) Mahz makes his roleplayer "resume" as it were. The formal system of making and linking characters to different RPs. Which I'm very excited for.

Latest Push:

- Introduced super-basic status system. UI needs work, sidebar needs to be refactored, but it's a start.
- When someone has a status set, it's reflected in their userbit along with when it was updated:

- Added some more clutter to the sidebar

(Wow, @GreatSalmon created a status 6 hours ago when I prematurely pushed the system online for 30 seconds. )

- As usual, not implemented yet on PMs, only posts.
- I need to mention this on the create-status form, but the status system doesn't support BBCode/formatting. The only thing it will do is auto-linkify a URL if you put one in your status. Added help text above form.
- Bug: I notice that the userbit status icon starts off in a shortform timestamp like "5m" but converts back into longform "6 min ago" whenever it updates on the client.

Heh. That wasn't even an attempt at something truly complex,@Mahz.

Blame it on the GM and worldbuilder in our blood. It loves complexity and consistency.

Is there / is there going to be some sort of limiting factor on statuses? Like you can only post one every five minutes or something? Because otherwise people may try to turn the status box into a chat pod or something. That was my first thought when I saw it, that it was a chatpod. (I know we have the IRC, but that's just what irrationally came to my mind.)
Anyway, don't let my question interrupt your discussion.

Yeah, I need to implement more flood protection for the Guild in general.

Though if people turn the sidebar status box into a chat box, then that's emergent behavior that simply means that I need to work on a real chat box. :)

I think if users feel the need to bend a feature to their wants/needs, then I need to help them out.

If you're allowing links in the status updates, can you restrict it to people who have X number of posts (like 5)? I'd hate to see spambots use it as a new vector for attack.

For some reason that thumbs-up rating thing annoys us. In particular, the label, "like" it has attached. Would it be better if named something like "approve"?

And on that status thing: for restrictions it could use some means for preventing people from using it as an extension of spam. Time limit between updates is logical, except it prevents fixing of spelling errors. Posts between updates is also impractical. Limiting number of edits per day/hour might work, but has the issue about spelling errors.
Each has advantages and disadvantages. Perhaps have it so that a new status won't show up on the list if you changed your status within the past 30 minutes? After all, the issue here is not so much that some people flood their own status changes as it is that they flood the public status message list.

And what if someone breaks guild rules in the status field? Do the mods have a tool to purge someone's status message?
