@teapotshark Approved. I didn't expect a poltergeist, but then I see the advantages.

Also, we need to consider what factions of supernatural being are more aligned with Nemsemet than others. Nemsemet is at least as scary to the sight of the ghostly (I think she should be able to perceive spiritual energies, just a thought in regards to abilities) as he is to people that deal with him on a physical plane.

Also, as Trinais did, it might be interesting to figure out where and how characters are established within the magical community. In the case of your poltergeist, I think buying and selling information is a natural.

I also have a few interesting character development hooks that might help out.

  • A goblin or some form of faerie that is not particularly on the glamorous side of things that also has a hard time earning income, and so worked as an indentured servant to beings higher up on the Camden Court's foodchain who could command such service. Faerie powers are nothing to sneeze at.
  • A vampire, of course. Probably one that is feeling pretty alone in the city, since the vampires that Nemsemet rallied are the young (and not so young) ones that think they should naturally rule over the things they hunt.
  • The aforementioned werewolf business development guy/girl running a not for profit foundation when the moon isn't full.
  • Young wizarding nobility that is being hunted by Nemsemet as they are Caradoc de Lacy's current heir (pretty far down on the list, until Nemsemet came back and started killing off nobles. For kicks, infernal heritage, which is part of the reason this character was so far down the line of succession -- someone had a really scandalous relationship.
  • A medusa involved in organized crime. When the sunglasses come off, it's bad.
  • A noble from outside of the city, vassal to another city's Lord, that is there to investigate what is going on in Camden. Possibly trapped there somehow, perhaps by a geas. Nemsemet is not letting supernaturals slip the city, and he has enacted a powerful spell to keep everyone in and stop communication from going out. More on that in the first post, but yeah. That's a measure of how powerful Nemsemet is and it's freakishly beyond the wildest dreams of any city's ruling lord. They wished they had as much clenched fist as this thing does.

I need to figure out where Rikive is then >>

Maybe in jail, or on house arrest because she was waiting for her trial?

Also, the spell prevents all communication with the outside world? Even technology? Because I was just wondering if a "technomancer" would be a beneficial or needed

Thank you! There are plenty of advantages to the poltergeist, but I do want to keep her from becoming too advantageous. I like the idea of spiritual energy perception. Perhaps it's something she developed in her later years and is still relatively new.

The dead, undead and the like are already at the top of the list to align with Nemsemet. I think necromancers would probably fit into that list too.

As for establishing a place in the magical community, I figured information sales were a given too. But also, given her ability to possess mortal bodies, she could be used to pull strings in the mortal world should the Court require anything from it.

Well, vampires and the such are naturally allies. Ghosts? I think Nemsemet, as a powerful necromancer, is enslaving them.

It's a geas, and a powerful one that seems to home in on the supernatural somehow. It prevents them from actually leaving and communicating outside, as in they can't get the words out their mouths or take that step to get on the plane.

Of course, supernaturals can get in. But they can't leave. It helps Nemsemet's "Join or die" bottom line quite a bit, and no one on the outside is committing to full scale invasion when there's just no information to be had.

As soon as a mortal becomes aware of the situation, they too are subject to the Geas. Part of the reason Nemsemet is treading carefully is the complications that arise from that.

That would make a lot of sense (and provide extra motivation for Beth, as it happens). He could also be recruiting, either by enslavement or summoning, creatures such as hellhounds, leviathans, reapers, banshees. I can see shapeshifters possibly siding with Nemsemet.

In a lot of ways, I am waiting to see what characters come out and then brainstorming off them as a springboard.

The geas, for example, is to keep Asgard and Heaven out of the loop.

@HeySeuss

Ooooh, very interesting :D

Oh! Maybe if someone plays the visiting noble, Rikive could be his/her guard as a form of indentured servitude/community service to repay her debt? She could have gotten in trouble in that other city

Sure. I don't mind plot devices of that nature.

I am really interested in this roleplay but work = travel for me, and I'm writing from my laptop at the moment. I have a character concept in mind, but not much real work done as far as the nitty-gritty details are concerned, some of which would require working with the OP through PMs.

I doubt I'll be back in time to really throw my hat into this, so I may have to bow out, as I don't want to hold anything up for everyone else involved.

Interesting Solame!!!

I was wondering more about your char's elemental control. Are we talking Korra level powers or lighting a cigarette with your fingertips power?

Senor HeySeuss, what would you think of adding a "Yes, and..." to the CS. Basically, each character piggybacks how they know the character above them so the adventure doesn't start with "You all meet in a tavern to fight the great evil. Aaaaaand go!"

I would say his powers are like early Korra.
He can throw fireballs and control the air and what not but if he wants to do anything big (A stream of flames out of his hands) he would have to concentrate really hard and it would start draining him.

So let's do that exercise.

As Trinais is suggesting this, I will assign him co-GM status and make this his baby.

Hello Mr/Mrs Seuss!

One thing I thought might be helpful to add to the CS is either an RP sample (to make sure everyone uses good punctuation) or what I like to call the "Yes, and" clause.

When I DM my tabletop group, the first person to present a backstory gets special attention, and everyone has to follow their story with a "Yes, and!" about how they met the character.

Example:

Player 1: My character escaped from prison, being wrongfully accused of theft.

Player 2: Yes, and my character helped them escape, because I committed the theft and she took the fall for me.

Player 3: Yes, and my character was going to buy the stolen item, so I gave them shelter after the escape!

Just something that may help, depending on your vision for the RP.

Thought I would join you lovely folks.

Approved.

As to Barnes, I started off doing a werewolf, switched tacks and went Werejaguar, and built off a character I'm doing in another RP about the Vietnam War. So go fig, I came out with the 'his ass got drafted into the 'Nam' story. Remember the tiger scene from Apocalypse Now? Yeah, that's why I said "Werejaguar is way better here."

I posted a basic prompt in my "Yes, and" section. Going down the line,@KuroTenshi please piggyback off of my statement how you know Parael Magnus. Then@teapotshark does the same for you, and then@solamelike for teapot, and on down the line.

Also, switched Barnes out to a Were-lion. I feel that the lion's social instincts might explain why he's less likely to simply hide until it's done and why he might have a social vision for his kind.

And @Trinais congratulations! :D

Of course I'll edit the "Yes, and" to my profile; shouldn't be too hard to figure out how two heavenly beings would know each other?

@rtc143 I feel as if your character lacks a lot of the sort of traditional faerie story abilities of trickery and glamour, and instead you've sort of turned him into a Seelie Sidhe version of a character (and character abilities, down to the Earth magic) that we already have on hand.

It also runs into the problem that we already have one magical law enforcement character, I sort of want to keep that number low.

The glamour and trickery, ironically, is a hole that needs filling in the various character abilities; it'd be highly useful.
