Also, I'm housesitting for a week while my Aunt and Uncle of off in another state. So I have some extra stuff to concentrate on (namely all their pets and plants), but I'll still do my best to get a post up when I can.

Well don't feel rushed I'm working on one for Precipice. And given no one's posted in the past 6 days I doubt someone will follow up for a couple more when I finally put my IC up.

This certainly looks fascinating. Are there any additional requirements that you may ask of your applicants? I have an understanding of how roleplaying works, but this would be my first time engaging in a forum roleplay, so I am making sure I am not missing anything before I construct an application.

I'd like to think that this is a narrative-based Roleplay and not a stat base there shouldn't be much. No rules or booklearning really required. Just an understanding on how to write a compelling story, the initiative to improve, and the politeness to let us know if we should not expect any posts any time soon due to IRL issues. Also the capability to work alongside others. But given how much empty room the world still has that isn't really strict and you got enough space to go solo for awhile if you'd rather.

If there was any RP-specefic rule to joining it would be to get a grasp on the setting and read the OP. But that's a plain given.

Excellent. Hopefully I shall have my application composed by the end of the day.

I might have missed information regarding technology (vehicles, weapons, tools, etc.) in the OP. Are these open for the writers to invent? Are there any guidelines that should be adhered to?

Technology is on a medieval equivalent. Or if you want to be specific 11th-13th century India.

There was or may have been more advanced technology but that was all buried in the underground when the Visha Empire collapsed.

This will probably sound silly, but do I post my application in the Characters tab, or is that only for those who have been accepted?

You post it in the characters tab.

Then I'll pretend I'm reading it for a day, if because I got a full schedule tomorrow.

Well the most upfront thing I can come up with your application @Maavoimat is that it doesn't really work with the general idea of what the general theme of the south there. Your history doesn't make any explanations on why a apparently norse-themed nation is doing in a region that is defined as being Indian or Persian in nature; as defined in some part by nations already there and the history of the Visha, who dominated the area.

It is not to say it won't work but I require some explanation or a relocation. Or a re-design of the nation as a whole.

If I could suggest it, the great northern steppe to the north is largely unexplored by any applying players, the only other who came close left and only one other current player has made only really token efforts to mention it, the region as being a place where his kingdom's legendary founder once conquered. But that region has some large and empty potential and was outside the control of the Visha allowing for greater possibility.

You may have to drop the boats from your application to work with the north, but it's an option.

I read Vilage's sheet again to use as reference as I write my own, and I realized this bit sounds like it was pulled from a vampire dating website:

The Gul-Shapur
-Alecta. A female Gul in her late forties. Attractive, looking to spawn children before she gets too old.

My intention was to create a culture that resembles Russia or China, but there are several Norse elements that I agree are a little out of place. If I were to relocate north, drop the boats, and redesign the nation so that it was geared more towards the rest of the environment, would that be acceptable?

Other than that, does anything else appear to be unsuitable?

I have to say that the phrase "Verigarde Armed Forces" sounds almost comically out of place. XD

Of course. It's not like you only get one chance to make an acceptable sheet :P

It's your choice though. There are a few things you can do. You can 1) Completely redesign the nation so that it fits the setting more. If you do this, keep in mind you don't absolutely have to base them on India. The Indian theme is predominant only because the Visha conquered most of the continent and influenced the cultures of its inhabitants. But if you want something different, anything eastern will work.

2) You can make some edits to your nation so that it makes more sense. The biggest problem with your sheet is that the Norse theme doesn't fit in with the setting. But if you absolutely must keep it, you're going to have to make it make sense. One way I see that being done is by relocating further north and basing your nation on Kiev Rus and the Varangians who, in real life, were vikings that sailed down to modern-day Ukraine. In this case, they'd be sailing into the northern steppes from somewhere even farther north. The only problem with that is that as of now, we have quite a few players that are playing as people who came from other distant lands, so another such nation may be too much in my opinion. You can still do it, if you want, but it'd be cool to see something else.

If you were to completely rethink your sheet, I'd suggest considering something like the Mongols. Aaron also mentioned that you could go for something like the Magyars from Hungary, since they are a Finno-Ugric group and as such, are a good compromise. They would also fit in better than full-blown vikings. And they were horsemen, which would work well in the northern steppes.

OK, so this is my two cents about the culture thing.

There isn't anything inherently wrong with borrowing from a Scandinavian/North European setting. It would look bad on us if we required all the cultures in this world to be carbon copies of specific eastern cultures that exist in the real world, since that sort of rigidity makes us look incapable of actually understanding how culture works at a very basic level. I read your app and it didn't feel like you directly ripped everything from the vikings. That is good.

However.

Your app does seem to suggest (if I read it right, and I might not have since I just woke up), that your people have been around a while. I take this from their supposed connection to the tunnel-building Visha. This does make their cultural uniqueness somewhat suspect. If they had been tied to a monolith such as Visha culture, and they have been in the region for the hundreds of years required, there should be some cultural diffusion. You should probably read all the other apps, particularly Vos and Daria, to get an idea of what life would be like for your neighbors, and be aware that the more general Visha culture would have been absorbed by your people in some way.

One possibility, I would think, is that they come from across the sea and raided up the rivers until they settled and made some sort of pact with the Visha. Maybe it was simple colonization where the Visha wanted people in that region who were strong and capable of governing it properly, or maybe the Visha employed them as a sort of Varangian guard. Either way, once they are there you would see their culture start to mix with the natives. They would still retain their boats (since they are practical), their Gods (though perhaps the added twang of Visha philosophical religion would cause mystery cults to become vogue amongst some of your people), and hints of their style would still be present mixed, just in amongst the native.

I appreciate the timely responses. I have taken everyone's comments into consideration, and I will address them separately and as thoroughly as I can.

@Dinh AaronMk I have redesigned my application. Not completely, but I did move the location north and reestablished it as a primarily horse-driven nation, which is honestly more appealing to me than my first application was.

@TheSovereignGrave Yes. Looking back on it it occurred to me how off that seems. It has been corrected.

@Vilageidiotx The Viking-esque appearance of my nation seems somewhat out of place. After typing out my latest application, I would rather go with that setup, as it makes more sense (at least, in my opinion) and is more applicable in the eastern environment that was already determined before I even arrived.

So, I have rewritten some aspects of my application, specifically the location, and for now I have dropped the longboats. They now reside on the east side of region 1. Furthermore, I have added a "Military" section to properly explain the Verigard's military power. For now they retain their Norse religion, and unless it becomes an impediment I would like to keep it that way.

Thoughts?

Just so you know, the player for 'Koraha' left and the territory that made up his nation is open for anyone. It's just that Aaron hasn't gotten around to editing it out of the map. Since he left after posting only once, we're just pretending Koraha was never a thing. So if you want a key to the sea, you can move your location there. If you still want the location you picked, that's fine too.
