"I am Slayer.
Though my limbs are heavy, I stand.
Though the darkness is deep, I walk.
Though the struggles are many, I endure.
Though the foe is overwhelming, I fight.
I am Slayer."Wears heavy armor on a casual basis.
He stands at 5 feet 4 inches, and under his armor has a fairly muscular build.
Name: Thorn, Knight Apprentice of the Slayers
Birth name is Fredrick Kang
Age: 17
Personality:
To sum it up, socially awkward rage monkey with a gentle side.
Socially awkward: Thorn has a habit of constantly putting his foot in his mouth. If he finds himself in an odd situation, he will somehow say the worst comment possible at the worst time.
For instance, he once embarrassed his master in front of a Lord whose wife had disappeared when Thorn pointed out the Lord's wife was probably just off cheating on him. Not only was this incorrect, but slightly inappropriate.
Angry: Thorn has a hair trigger temper. He will go on long tirades about seemingly any subject. He once argued with a tavernkeeper for two hours about the price of his beer, which Thorn couldn't even buy due to being too young for it in that country. Once again, embarrassing his master.
This trait has its positives, as in combat he is really hard to put down...and extremely reckless.
Sassy as fuck: Related to the previous. Thorn is really good at sassy comebacks. However, this also brings us back to the socially awkward part, as he never turns it off. During spear training, he once told his master where he could shove his spear. That was not a good day for Thorn.
Proud: "Don't you dare fucking pity me!" were the first words Thorn said to his master. Thorn hates relying on others, and is poor at teamwork as he is constantly trying to work alone. This has endangered him and others many times in the past.
Inquisitive: Thorn loves to read and learn new things. As a result, he's got a good theoretical knowledge of many things.
No common sense:...and is bad at applying them. He has done medical research and has been taught how to treat wounds, but good luck getting him to do it right. He can identify pictures of alchemical herbs, but he has no idea how to identify the herbs themselves. He is kind of a natural born fuck up.
Shockingly Compassionate: Once insisted that his Slayer group stay in town for a month after they had routed the demons in the town, so he could teach an orphan how to read. Thorn has had trouble keeping a hold of his salary because he keeps spending it all on others who he thinks need help. Thorn also always advocated for peace. Once, his Slayer group was tasked with torching a town to the ground because of the demonic threat within being too strong. Thorn nearly left the Slayer Order over this, and in the end the town was torched anyways by the demons themselves, who mostly escaped. Thorn's compassion isn't guided by common sense, and he can do some really dumb things.
Loves To Read: Literally, to entertain this guy, just give him a book full of knightly stories or some shit. Come back three days later to find him still reading.
Backstory: Thorn was born to the name Fredrick Kang, in a humble little town. His family were foreigners, displaced by civil war in their home country and living slightly impoverished lives. His mother was a great playwright back home, and so Thorn was raised hearing tales of excitement and heroism. He actually had a pretty damn good childhood. His family was well beloved in the area for their skill in entertainment, and his parents were able to give him a very good education.
Thorn never asked about where his parents were from, and they never said. According to his oldest sister, their old home was pretty religiously ruled, and their mother had been quite the public figure, being a female playwright who regularly spoke out for equal rights and an increased need for secular courts and government.
Things took a turn for the worse when old enemies caught up to the family. Thorn remembers his parents hastily packing their stuff and leaving. He remembers being told not to trust anyone on the road, that they were moving to a much better, bigger city. He was told it was to advance his mother's career, but he knew better. His sister did too.
They began more or less hopping towns. Their income began to come less from revenue and more from sympathizers. For years, they ran.
It was on the road that they struck. Men seemed to materialize from the woods to attack their wagon. He has only hazy memories of the attack. He remembers hearing his mother telling him to hide, of him being found, of being kept prisoner for what felt like a life time. He was to be brought back to the home country to be executed.
What he does remember is his sister spitting their leader on a sword a few months later, wearing gray armor with ofd symbols on it. She was accompanied by men amd women wearing similar armor, calling her a knight-apprentice.
As far as his mother's enemies knew, the Kang family was dead. Thorn learned that his uncles and aunts back in their home country had mostly been executed. He learned his mom has been brought back and hung, while his father was killed in prison. He learned that there was a powerful theocracy that wanted him dead for his family's political dissent. His only living family was now his older sister.
From that moment, Fredrick Kang was dead. If Thorn kept his old name, he wpuld be hunted by his parents' home country. He took the name Thorn, to match his sister's adopted name of Spike. Thorn joined the Slayers with his sister. His old life was over, and a new one begun.
The Slayers were demon hunters, dedicated to protecting people from the beasts that go bump in the night. They had saved Spike and Thorn for the sake of conscripting them, two new warriors for their ranks.
Thorn found a new family in his Slayer Coven. They taught him to fight, and put a weapon in his hands. They gave him a purpose. He and his sister pushed each other to succeed. He gripped onto the last of his family with an iron grip.
Eventually, his Coven was tasked with defending the country, joining with the conventional military in an act of desperation by the kingdom. Slayer forces were not suited to largescale war and battles, and so the legendary demon Slayers did surprisingly poorly as troops.
In the case of Thorn, he did not even get to test his metal. As he was still a youth, he was put in a caravan. He is resentful of this, wishing to fight alongside his comrades.
Skills and Abilities:
Journeyman Axeman
Journeyman Hammerman - He has received a pretty solid degree of weapons training by the Slayers. That said, his aggressive fighting style makes him only really talented with weapons that don't really need defense. But put a hammer or axe in his hand, and he does a pretty decent job as a battering ram.
Novice Medic - Has learned a bit of first aid during his Slayer training, but isn't very good at it.
Journeyman Performer- He often performed in his mother's plays and picked up a lot of knowledge of entertainment.
Journeyman Demonologist - He was a demon Slayer. He has a pretty good working knowledge of demons
Fighting Style: Extremely aggressive and reckless. He focuses on a constant assault. This leaves his defenses open, however.
Equipment:
Iron Hammer - Hammer in the image. Is more of a polehammer, and has great reach. Not a very good defensive weapon however.
Throwing Axes: Keeps throwing axes on his belt, both for ranged combat and a back up throwing weapon.
Slayer Armor: Decently forged armor, made to stand up against the impacts of demonic claws and attacks. Has various scratches and nicks, and one of the shoulder pads is kinda bent. Old, in need of replacement, but reliable for the moment. Comes with a closed helm and visor.
Other - Thorn is oddly sensitive to hostile magic, giving him a great weakness against mages. He is not very fast, and is an easy target for magic users. However, years of Slayer training and a history of magic in the bloodline have granted Thorn an affinity for dark magic, causing him to be better able to resist that specific element.
