The Omnisiah's blessings are many and great. Subtlety is not one of them. Surprisingly neither is skill at pong.

I'm not sure what you mean, Malek is merely a humble adept of the Mechanicus. Unworthy of note or extra floor re-enforcement.

Alright, I suppose its best to be upfront with all of this, and not sit on it.

I have multiple issues with this thread and where it's going. I do not want anyone to see this as me attacking them, and I hope I retain a fairly neutral tone while making these comments and criticisms.

I'll start by saying 40k has off and on been one of my favorite pastimes for about a decade now, and I've always enjoyed a lot of the lore (not you though, spiritual liege) and most of the time I've liked the game. As such, maybe I'm taking it too seriously, maybe I'm trying to force too many of the established constraints onto us.

Anyways, I understand that the GRIMDARK WAR FUTURE setting doesn't allow for much humanism, and I understand that bending that a little for believable human characters produces people like @Skyrte's Zhevon. This character is fairly believable even in the setting. (Reminds me of Eisenhorn. Kinda. Been 2 years since I read the books.) Kinda Radical, is the hero of the story, so has nonstandard feats and abilities, and some plot armor, and minimal flaws.

Gregor isn't too bad, either. Just a normal goon. Melta reminds me of Cain's sidekick though. If given character development or more spotlight, Gregor having a hatred of chaos or a healthy fear/respect would be a believable reveal/arc/flaw for his past.

The Squat hasn't posted again, so even though he was a bit goofy for a fairly serious setting, we won't delve into him.

Ben (my character) is kinda generic war scarred vet. I'm not going to pretend the character I made was very original. Should he survived having his arm and two legs ripped from his body? No, probably not, but a little plot armor in the past to get to the present isn't the worst thing you can do with a character. But the character was given flaws, intentionally.

@Rithy's Psyker is a little Mary Sue, but not too bad in the grand scheme of things. Could use a flaw or two, but this is casual I suppose. If I played the character, I'd have introduced the possibility that she isn't always able to divine truth, or is isn't always super clear. As in, she saw the Inquisitor and danger, which translated to, he was hanging out with the assassin, a very dangerous man. It makes her premonition true, but also introduces the possibility that the Warp is fickle and she can misinterpret what she sees.

We haven't seen our 2nd stormtrooper, so we skip him.

@Eisenhorn's Stukov is kinda like Ben. Has plot armor to survive things in the past he shouldn't have, but is flawed. Likely fear/respect of demons understandable. This is kind of on me, because I'm pretty sure I made Ben after Stukov was posted in the old thread.

We haven't seen the Interrogator again, so we skip him.

@Shadowman215's Assassin is where we get to the power creep. Prior to him, on the power scale, we have a Psyker, who is strong in her own right, and the Inquisitor. Then three normal goons running around with various weapons, serving as the foot soldiers. James, the assassin is a very strong character. I understand in game, assassins are strong. I personally would have been satisfied with the shooty part, and wouldn't have taken two additional power weapons, but that's just me. This character works in the grand scheme as the Inquisitor can obviously get an assassin to work for his missions, and in the stealth part of the job, Vindicaires are obviously the second best assassin for the job.

@Marcus XVI's Commissar isn't bad, and is fairly human. (Reminds me of Gaunt, or his buddy with the robot arm. Probably intentional). His loadout is kinda insane, since in the lore, a normal bolter can hurt it's wielder on a normal day, and are fairly difficult to operate. The kick on a stormbolter, would probably jostle the entire human body. But the likeliness that a lowly commissar cadet getting to keep the Xenos weapon he had taken is pretty slim. The fact that someone there (remember the Imperium is kinda scared of technology and tampering with it is considered a sin) could forge it into a sword without ruining the blade is mindblowing. But the GM approved this character, so, so be it.

@Findragon is where we have a legitimate problem. This character literally should not exist. Cadian characters like this do not exist. They are not legitimate killing machines. They are not the best warriors. They are the best soldiers, the best army. They are like the Roman Legion in space. (fuck off Ultramarines). They follow orders, they do not use heavy combat drugs. If they did, they would be shot by a Commissar. Furthermore, Kasrkins are the exemplars of Cadian discipline. Do they get sent on Suicide missions? Yes, they're spec ops. Are they bad at taking orders? No, again, that Cadian would not last long. The character is very Mary sue special snowflake in this regard alone.

Additionally, humans do not get rejected from Space Marine chapters more than once, because they do not survive the rejection. Almost all Space Marine chapters have trials of some sort to get in line for the Genetic inspection for Purity. Survive that? They probe your mind. Survive that? You're maybe 14 years old, and go into live weapons and fire training to slowly receive organ transplants that will eventually make you into a semblance of a marine.

Just an idea of what some of those trials are, the Space Sharks made an entire planet's generation of adolescents fight in hand to hand one on one to the death combat to be considered.

Additionally, I know this is only casual. I know my posts aren't perfect. But your posts need to run through Microsoft word. Hell, even Firefox has a spellcheck built into it. And then Zach runs off in his second post to find an illegal arm's dealer in the first alley he checks.

This character is insane.

Next is @swich01, playing Malek another character who is insane. The Lore is fine, the capabilities of the character are far too strong. He is the size of a Space Marine Terminator and does not fit half of what an Inquisitor Warband does. Stealth subterfuge type missions. I don't think anyone minds a techpriest, but whats the point in us playing anything if you're going to play a walking battle tank.

@Deathkrieg's character is pretty fine, and on around the powerlevel of Ben, Stukov, and Gregor.

TL;DR

Zhevon is the Hero, so he's supposed to be v strong.
James is next in line in lethality, and is almost too powerful.
Adrianne is next, and is p powerful, but could use a flaw or two.
Ben, Stukov, #888, and Gregor are a couple goons.
Kreel is a bit unbelievable, but is forgivable.
Malek is far too powerful, and should be toned down in my opinion.
Zachary Silver is absolutely insane and should not exist in this RP.
We don't talk about those in the past, Osilus, Pherik, and Thrall.

I can understand many of the points you make here. To respond to the section on myself.

I have always played the RPGs and Play by post is new to me however I would be very hesitant to suggest that being big and slow is a great trade off for roughly eight or nine points of armor. The frequency of weapons that would laugh their way through that is quite high and the bulk makes the far superior dodge unlikely. A GM that cannot bring down a Malek is not nearly imaginative enough. I have full confidence that i will spend more than enough time in the repair bay.

Which also brings me to another point you touched on. Demons. I'm always skeptical of any mention of characters facing off against them one on one and winning. They are absolute combat monsters. Even lower mid level ones such as an Ebonghists should be a brutal fight for any three of us.

As for power. What? Are inquisitors not going to use considerable force when facing the enemies of man? In the books you mention far greater forces are brought to bear. If you are concerned about PvP then a decent running start should keep you out of grippy range. My role in combat is clear. Provide local support and form a solid backbone to the force that others can maneuver around to take the fight to the foe.

As for my role in the group, considering that i have not even made my fist IC post i feel you have been a bit preemptive. If Zhevon feels he cannot use Malek's skills i'm sure he will make this known. Should Malek appear. No Malek won't be slipping by sentries however a well controlled skull could. furthermore my contacts in the Ad-Mech themselves could be invaluable, properly manipulated.

As for any point on the other characters i have considered some of these points myself but would also consider some of them excessive. after all as a staunch fan of 40k for many years i have to say those taking it too seriously are missing the point. this is a universe in which you can march 10,000,000 men to their deaths in a single day and get clapped on the back for a good effort. though i do try to restrain some of the Grim Derp myself.

@Lotta Pumpkins

I appreciate your criticism - finally someone gives it in a constructive and polite manner. I will admit that the Storm Bolter is perhaps a bit too much - originally I was going to opt for just a normal bolter - which too would of course have been a bit on the ridiculous side. Then again if one has played Dawn of War Dark Crusade the Imperial Guard commander of that game does have a storm bolter strapped to his arm and the arm isn't even mechanical.

I was thinking along the lines that the Storm Bolter is more a weapon for intimidation than actual combat - Kreel is a Commissar after all.

As for the melee weapon Kreel is hefting around... Well... I really have no proper excuse for that which I could use to make it fit lore wise when taking in to consideration the Imperium's stand on xenos artefacts. In all honesty I just wanted to make something a bit different, that's all.

As for the GRIM DARK... I have to agree we have a little bit too small amount of that thus far - though maybe most of the GRIM DARKER stuff happens on the battlefields and not in what one could consider an 'everyday situation'.

My common sense is indicating a large amount of relentless crying in this thread.

First off, you seem to have problem with majority of people here. If you can't stand having them around, you can just dash you know. I don't know about others, but personally I have no personal liking to you, hell I don't even know you, so it would not be a loss.

Second of all, I can now get into my character then. Before anything, he was accepted to the group so I do not see a reason to change a thing about him.

And now the thing no one ever seems to think about when they start crying out loud. WH40 has a damn universe and planets and stars beyond a damn imagination. Someone's probably popping a vein right now trying to think of new names for them to add something now to the game, I would not know since I quit my hobby like seven years ago or so.

About his survival? The comissar gets a bullet before he does. I never said that he was such a lone wolf all his life. But being a last man standing over and over can quite possibly affect you in a ertain way in which you are not really following anyone since, you know, they'll probably die off so what's the point? Unlike you when typing out that bigass post that was clearly supposed to trigger everyone here, I thought things through and spoke with a fellow player about the possibilities. And what do you know, there's a possibility for that, and I took it. Rrrright, what's next then?

The combat drugs. Probably the only part I agree with you. Look at that, I found something. Either way, Kasrkin Bane. Cry me a river.

It's probably as difficult to imagine as a stormtrooper from star wars getting shot twice, but in such a vast and large universe, a cadian such a Zach could easily excist. Not to mention that if you are part of a league of extraordinary gentlemen such as this, you'd imagine you need something a bit more special than a Kasrkin training.

I can well admit that I had no idea what the hell the Chapter's trials have in them, nor did I have enough interest to go through the entire lore just to find out about that. So that was legitimately my bad. So sue me.

First alley? Yes. First place he was looking for? No. Overruled. Also, a drug dealer. Doubleruled.

And about the typing? I do tend to type faster than I can process it myself. This leads to many typoes and misplaced letters over here just as well as anywhere else. Yeah, I guess I could do double checking a bit more often. But since it obviously triggers you that badly, I might not.

Also, the character is insane. Possibly not in the way you meant to say it, but sob.

TL;DR

I herd u liek Mudkips.

I think that is actually already covered. she has already had 1 vague and 1 wrong prediction :P

she is prideful though, so she'll never admit her visions were untrue, and act as if unforeseen events were in her plan all along. Hence her saying "I have been expecting you." when in fact Zhevon and James completely surprised her.

If she predicts danger, but nothing actually happens; chances are she'll say it was thanks to her foreseeing the danger that the danger never actually happened in the first place :D

but seeing as this RP is still in its infant stages and we have barely gotten our feet off the ground, I think it might be a bit too soon for judgements :)

It seems people are more or less being adult about the whole thing i see. That is good.

all i'd say is, FinDragon no point in getting aggro about it. There is nothing wrong with criticism. Could it have been phrased better? Yes. Was it all bumf no. You don't need to know the screeds of 40k lore to play a game like this but there were a couple little things that are somewhat incongruous on your sheet that might nip at someone.

For me it was the space marine thing and the warboss thing. The drugs? That is a not unsurprising result of repeated face offs with death.

Space marines are inherently mega mary sueish. its pretty much always better to separate yourself from them when writing characters. Avoid the contact low they produce.

As for the warboss thing. The average Ork warboss could kill hundreds of humans in close combat. Even hurting one without a power weapon is folly. Given Malek's specialty of being big strong and having tank lifting mechadendrites i would give him 50/50 odds against a particularly weak ork warboss. Maybe a one armed one heh heh heh.

At the end of the day my main point is chill out. If you need to take criticism personally you need to find a less public pass time.

Relllllllax. Its what everyone is here to do.

Also considering 40k i don't think a storm bolter is out of line for a human. Remember that the bolt weapons are separated into human and astardes versions. its not like you are using the same guns terminators use. Bolt weapons of all types are used by humans in all the literature.

Necron blade tho. Wut. lore wise yea big boo boo HOWEVER considering the nature of the game it's hardly crime of the century. It can easily be taken as extra fluff for a character. I mean its effectively just a unique power sword in the end. Just don't wave it around orthidox inquisitors if you aren't a fan of old pokie.

I'm actually more amused than riled up to be honest. The warboss thing, I think, was explained in the profile, he did not do that completely alone,he had six pieces of meatshield with him against the warboss alone, not to mention the rest of the troops participating the raid. And the killing blow was dealth with the orc's big choppa itself, no real point about keeping any details for later use at this point to have a nice storytime with the group. I have no idea how much that thing weights, but after some digging I'd say it's somewhere between 80-120 kilograms or 176-264 pounds, I could be ways off though. Not an impossible stunt to pull, especially since it's not like he was swinging that around casually, it was just a single swing that was lucky enough to land.

To sum it up, I am completely calm believe it or not. I found it extremely amusing that someone saw that much trouble for no real reason other than to get a reaction out of someone. Thus I provided one. Back to videogames.

I had grievances, so I put them out there. Pretty pleased with how people handled them. If anyone wants to criticize my character, please, by all means, do so.

I still think that the autocannon equipped tech priest is a bit over the top power wise, but if it's accepted so be it. Being well played is the bottom line. All I was trying to say about our commissar was he was nonstandard, but that isn't a big issue if he's played well, the bottom line.

@FinDragon you took it about how I expected. As a personal attack against you all, and you tried a bit hard to troll. At least the others were mature. The character is still outlandish. And just for the record of not knowing or liking me. I'm not here to be anyone's friend. I'm just here to pass time and make made up characters do things.
