I think... The only response to that... is this:

On a side note, you're right. To call oneself an author is an incredibly pompous thing until you've made an official career out of it. Unless you write full-time and you're actually making money on it... You're a "writer." I'm one of those that identifies simply as a "roleplayer" - I don't like to write solo and i have no desire to become a published author.

My own rant to expand on that... Being published also doesn't make you an author. >_> Anybody can go through what I call a "Vanity Publisher" - meaning if you just give them money, they will sell your book on the condition that it's been edited and was written by a literate person. Romance, mystery, general, sci-fi... they all have it. I worked in a library, trust me when I say that you're right - being somebody who wants to be a writer is great, but that doesn't mean you're actually the best around or even actually talented. Which might be mean, but I don't have a specific person in mind when I say that. It's kinda sad, really, when people are counting their chickens before they hatch...

I hate ironic self deprecating humor.

Hey ummm, Is it wrong to love dinosaurs?, because dinosaurs are awesome obviously, random I know, but every 27 year old man should love them damnit....because reasons....reasons of fun.

For fuck sake just say you like dinosaurs no need to make a cringy bullshit comedy speech about it.

One of my complaints is the over abundance of asshole characters, and the comedy childish characters who are mostly female which slightly annoys me because I don't see enough fun boy characters unless it's a Naruto rp and even then their few in numbers.

I like dinosaurs too.

See we both just made a statement about something we liked without self-deprecating that's my point.

Haha, that's true!

In fairness, the self deprication comes from a rather widespread close mindedness of what one of any given demographic can or cannot like

Was involved in an RP on another forum.

Had someone CC/Meta Game in order to prevent me from Meta Gaming, which is a hilarious excuse in my opinion.

Here's what happened, bear in mind his character had already threatened to kill everyone in the RP and attempted to assassinate one of two characters in command, and several characters had pointed out that they did not trust him.

He posted that he, in the same room as every character in the RP but without anyone (save one character who he decided was cool with it) noticing, pulled his gun out, stripped the magazine, ejected the round from the chamber, pointed it at my character, and pulled the trigger. Then he put the gun away with a smirk and gave a speech.

When I pointed out that he had CC'd everyone in the room in doing that, most of them implicitly, my character and the unnamed character who noticed but did nothing about it explicitly, he explained that he did it to prevent me from interrupting his actions, which would have been meta-gaming.

Ultimately I wish I'd just let it come to pass to see what came of it, but I pointed it out and it caused a big scene. He deleted the post replacing it with a jibe about how he did nothing because no one had a sense of humor. Thread nearly died after that but it's still plugging on.

What do you guys think? Should I have kept my mouth shut? I think probably I should have.

Edit: Said "the primary mission giver" when a better description would have been "one of two characters in command"

I've been way too active on this thread lately... Hmph...

I don't think you did anything that was... wrong, per se, @MrSmileySmile. But on the other hand, I think it could have been better. If you were the GM, then I would say confront him over PM and if he has an issue, then your word is law. That's part of being a GM, you sometimes have to make decisions that are unpopular with one person or something like that... I don't know, I'm not opening up that trainwreck of a debate that got this thread shut down once and almost again the second time. However, if you weren't the GM, I would have suggested taking it to the GM and having them sort it out. Or maybe tell the person who acted out like that politely that you had an issue with it. It's hard to say, you know... ^^" I've had those issues before, but it's case-by-case.

Additional Info,

I was a co-GM. Responded to his IC post, the one I described, in the OOC post with essentially "No, that's not going to happen."

Probably could have handled that a bit more subtly.

I think that you've prompted me to call myself an author more often @Scout, not that I think there's anything wrong with it even though I hadn't published any books yet, I simply believe that there should be no distinction between published authors and unpublished authors as it is merely popularity that varies between them.

I, can't, care about popularity in real life or on the internet - so I'm going to liberally call anyone who roleplays an author of their work whenever I feel like it. I believe every work has an author and it's nothing wrong to call them as they are.

Well of course ^_^ our opinions are our own, I'd never say you're wrong, especially because the difference I believe is subjective... Maybe the internet knows if there's an official difference.

Its the obsession with irony that our generation has, even in the geek community we cant just like things that we like, we have to make it a big spectacle and comedy skit to guard our insecurites. Don't get me wrong I used to do it as a kid, but I'm in my 20s now and If I like power rangers I'm just going to say I like power rangers, not be like Umm yeah cause power rangers are super-mad-cool-and awesomeness....am I weird? :3

Its a really cheap and desperate attempt to look cute.

@potatochipgolem Your profile picture reminds me of the other thing that I need to bitch about.....

And this isnt a jab to SJWs or anything, there are white knights in every circle, you've all already met one.

You know what's bullsh!t? People who make 1x1 Interest Checks and love to remark "I don't bite", as if saying that sending a PM to them to talk about a potential RP is perfectly fine. You click on their username, start a private convo with them, use your time to create a great introduction message to explain your interest and the plot you have thought...only to have the person keep bumping his/her thread and ignore you. I've had this happen 4 times this week where the GM ignores me. At least have the decency of saying that you are not interested. I wonder when did RPG became so infested with ill-mannered twats.

@potatochipgolem I love that you used Miley Cyrus to convey a jab at maturity XD haha, that's a new level of irony.

@Dynamo Frokane I'd say it ought to be a two-fer. I'm an extremely open person (not to be an ass), but SJWs suck. They're another extremist group of people with a stupid agenda who wear horse blinders by choice and anybody who isn't part of their exact philosophy is a bigot. I could go on and on, but they never listen anyway...

White knighting XD I used to do that. Until I realized how patronizing that is to women. If she's worth defending (figuratively), then she's smart enough to do it herself and ask if she needs help. What's funny is those guys would never physically back themselves up. If they told somebody off and that person didn't leave, the White Knight complex would be smeared across the floor XD not to say being a nice guy is wrong, at all! But you have to know when you're being a good guy and recognize you're doing it for YOU not for HER.
