I frowned uncertainly. "Who will be appointed my guardian, then?" I asked. Not that I felt I even needed a guardian, but hadn't being mine been the entire purpose of her visit? She had arrived far earlier than Frank, after all. And she was certainly one of the most tolerable relatives I had encounter so far - I didn't resent having her around. I didn't think I would really miss her, either, though. We certainly weren't close.
As for meeting new people... that wasn't safe. The second I exposed myself to such a risk, I was bound to be hurt, especially now that I had as much money as I did. Amanda wouldn't understand, of course. She hadn't been through what I had. Vivian, however, probably would - at least I would have her by my side again soon. I couldn't deny that I had become quite fond of her, and thought of her more like a little sister than like my niece. I had responded to her text, saying that I couldn't wait for her to return, so hopefully she understood my feelings.
"Well, I won't feel quite as safe without you," I said to Amanda, shrugging. "But I'm sure I'll get by. Just make sure to convince Nathan to take my side a bit more if another member of my family invades this place - it's bound to happen, after all. These people are as persistent as cockroaches, and twice as unpleasant."
