recently i was in an RP where one player seemed to have dropped it and didn't tell anyone and because of that three other player (which includes me) where forced to wait for a response that never was coming.

I don't think anyone has complained about this yet, but I get somewhat annoyed or uncomfortable when players constantly use abusive fathers as their characters' background. Sorry, but I just feel offended since I'm an advocate for fathers' rights and the fact that abuse is pretty much 50/50 for both parents. So yeah I really wish that stereotype and cliche would be used less.

also i agree with this guy

-I get it when people whose native language is not English are poor at it, but given enough exposure to the words of the better-experienced, they should have at least improve after some time. If you think that "alot" is a legitimate word, you got a fuckton of run-ons, and/or you confuse "loose" with "lose", then use that excuse, and I see you got over hundreds of posts in hundreds of days, I'm not going to stop wearing my judging hat. (It's fine if you do it OOC because less effort is needed in mere discussion, unless it becomes unreadable.)

-Edgy, angsty teenage characters whose 2deep4u background and CRAAAWLING IN MY SKIIIN nature simply serves to cut my wrist with that edge, eh, fuck those.

Still not sure why people think that's good writing, really.

Oh right, on that note... Copious amounts of gore, extreme violence, sex, profanity, etc. isn't "mature". It's quite the opposite, actually. It's things like this that always make me assume that if an RP advertises itself as "mature" and/or "18+", whoever made it is in fact neither.

-Dictator GMs whose directions has to be exactly followed by the roleplayers. Seriously, if you want a story where you are absolutely in charge of then you should just write a damn story yourself instead.

-8 gorillion Harry Potter RPs, 21 brazillion Sword Art Online RPs, 53 zimbabwillion Naruto RPs, 3895249028492839202919121002901091 unfortillion Greek God-themed/"Percy Jackson" RPs. And if most, if not all of them are just of the same damn premise. This is why I'm not keen on fandom roleplays.

-Anime expies on supposedly serious roleplays, Jesus Christ. Getting caught in the middle of the raid and suddenly there's an annoying, overly girlish "IYAAAAAAAAH!~" outta nowhere because a masochistic girl interpreted getting beat with bats as getting pounded with dicks. Can you not ruin the moment?

-Bump. Bump. BUMP. bump. BUMP. Reboot. Post. Dead. BUMP. BUMP. BUMP. Reboot. It's dead, god damn it! I know it feels hard on you, but put that lifeless roleplay out to pasture already. Try presenting a different one.

-Someone gets promoted to authority in an RP and boom. There's some guy who opposes that move because they think they are plotting/have plotted something, and argues it in the OOC where everything spirals out of control and kills the RP. Complain in a PM instead, it's better confined and quarantined there.

I think we should all remember each GM has a different style, perspective, and how they see their game. It doesn't mean people are on a "power trip" or "should just write their own story"; just because they are director doesn't mean they don't want a team of writers to make interesting collaborative scenarios. We should try to understand other perspectives instead of just marginalizing them because we disagree...

None of us like to be victims of bullying.

Though I will argue that a setting has the right to define conventions (especially fantasy and sci-fi) regarding social perspective. That won't stop me from writing a mage in a world where they are persecuted as "weapons and not people" but I do understand not everyone is treated equal even if they are all human.

but why as a player would you want to play transgender?

Why is this an inquiry? Why?

Why the hell do I want to play a 4'7" adolosecent wielding a sniper rifle? Why the hell do I want to play Batman? Why the hell do I want to play a pragmatic alien with staunch morals? Why the hell do I want to play a 1920s detective?

Because I want to.

If a GM said no cisgender character I would obey that rule.

I wouldn't. That's a rule that shouldn't exist (and the same applies for other identities and orientations) as it serves no purpose than to open a door to bigotry based on maligned ignorance and/or discomfort. There are "guidelines" but there never should be a rule that states such a flippant thing as no [x] orientation characters.

No. A GM is not "essentially god."

Absolutely not. But they are director, organizer, developer, and enforcer. You might view it as tyrannical, but I see it as keeping control of a creative work they've been really excited to have other folks participate in.

This one, 150 million percent.

Same.

More than anything, in my experience, excessively unrealistic and misplaced cursing and perversion are the hallmarks of a roleplayer 18 or below. In fact, I would go out on a limb and say I have a 95% accuracy rate on calling out younger roleplayers based on the amount of unnecessary cussing their character's/s' used.

Even IRL, I think that profanity works best with precision. If you practically use it as punctuation, it loses any impact it would have, but when you barely ever do so it makes it that much more noticable and instantly attention grabbing when you do.

This is so true. Like, I used only say the word "cunt" on rare instances when certain people deserved to be called that word. However, now I say it quite often. As a result, it has lost nearly all of its impact.

So, long story short: ditto.

I'm Australian. I grew up in West Sydney. So when it comes to swearing I'm used to it in general conversation so I don't happen to always notice it, however in a roleplay tend to notice it often and I, myself, have to stop occasionally and think, "What's the 'correct' way to say that again?"

Example:
Boring as batshit = Dull
Bugger that = Forget it
Fucken muppet = Complete idiot
How are ya, ya cunt! = Hello Friend
Fuckin’ aye = Yes

@NuttsnBoltsAhah, tell me about it. XD I'm Scottish, and... People here are basically the same, really. At one place I worked at many years ago, practically every other word anyone said was profanity. It actually weirds some people out that I don't swear all that much.

...Also fucking hell I think that's the most likes I've ever seen for one of my posts, and it's about something like this. I don't know how to feel about that. XD

@Rin I think people like it because you bought up a good point and it's that many people do not know how to swear properly. They do it to sound edgy but don't think of how it'll improve the post, or help convey the scene. Not only that but they'll write up a good voice line, only to then not write the character into the proper emotion/action or get upset when it's taken the wrong way.

Sounds stupid to say this, but good swearing is an art and just randomly dropping fucking swear words into random fucken lines looses it's fucken impact when it's fucken overused. xD

As someone whose native language is not English and had been through the difficult stage of learning it, I can understand those who are in the same boat as I was back then, trying to improve and be better at English. However, as someone who actually can reach to this level where I can be often mistaken as a native at this language, I'm less forgiving compared to most other RPers, especially at those who think they can get away with using this as excuse not to put in effort to minimize language errors in their IC posts.

8 gorillion Harry Potter RPs, 21 brazillion Sword Art Online RPs, 53 zimbabwillion Naruto RPs, 3895249028492839202919121002901091 unfortillion Greek God-themed/"Percy Jackson" RPs. And if most, if not all of them are just of the same damn premise. This is why I'm not keen on fandom roleplays.

While I agree to some extent that popular fandoms are so overdone that they are literally everywhere on the net, and that it's frustrating how these fandoms are so successful that almost no parts of the world is spared from the contagious fever - but that's the point, right? These authors created a universe so huge that is worth exploring beyond what's shown in the canon books with our own personal touch.

On a side note, I think that it's quite impossible to actually create a 100.1% original idea that isn't based on anything that ever existed on Earth - you probably think that it's original, but someone will simply tell you that this idea had already been done a million times before you actually thought of it; maybe not exactly the same, but similar (you can see how many different people have been using the same trope way before you were even born). I don't believe in creating an idea out of absolutely nothing - many ideas are often drawing inspirations from existing works/lore and whatnot before mixing with personal knowledge/experiences to give a more original feel to it, but never, like I said before, a completely original idea that warrant you an exclusive patent right to it.

Bump. Bump. BUMP. bump. BUMP. Reboot. Post. Dead. BUMP. BUMP. BUMP. Reboot. It's dead, god damn it! I know it feels hard on you, but put that lifeless roleplay out to pasture already. Try presenting a different one.

Bumping
I think it makes more sense to just make ONE interest check thread and edit or add more new stuffs to it rather than creating 34879756176496186732 godzillion new interest threads for each and every new idea that comes to your mind at that very moment, or if that thread got buried under other members' new threads and you're too lazy to dig out your original thread. Just my two-cents.

Rebooting
Sometimes a RP died due to various factors i.e. bad luck of getting the wrong cast of players, inexperienced GM, etc. I don't see why people can't reboot an old idea with improvements and give it another shot with the right cast; for GMs, learning from previous setbacks to become better at moderating the RP. RPing is a hobby, not a lifeline job; we're here to enjoy ourselves in the world of fantasy while also learning to improve ourselves, not here for another virtual military camp.

---

New Pet Peeve: when the other party may not get the references I'm trying to get across when discussing ideas/settings and stuffs, but instead of asking Google and make an effort to do their own research work, s/he simply chucks me with an "I don't know" and sits back, expecting me to do all the detailed elaboration for them.

When someone ignores the arrival of another roleplayer's character, merely because they've created for themselves a little bubble for them and their friend(s) to RP in. Please if you're going to do that, take it to 1x1, or create a special roleplay for only those invovled. Now, don't confuse this with when its just two characters who happen to be in a plot.

What I'm talking about is when someone joins an RP and chooses to isolate their favorite fellow players within their bubble, while leaving out new arrivals, or people they don't like, and therefore taking away from the authenticity of the roleplay. And this isolated bubble can range anywhere from two to a million other characters. The main point is, this person just won't tolerate or respond to any newcomers, and will leave them out of the RP, trying their best to avoid interacting with the new players characters.

Being ignored is just not fun. Don't join a collaborative RP, if you only want to RP with a select group of people. Just make the rp with those people :/

And the worse part is, when someone is recruiting players and this RPer is just basically chasing away the new recruits by being an ignorant, unfriendly, douchebag. You can have your favorite people, yes, but for the sake of the RP and collaboration, please don't needlessly ignore someone.

Even though i don't do it in roleplays, i hate players who get all butthurt over sexual characters like some social justice warrior. Seriously if you're religious I understand but if you're some open minded person then you come off as a hypocrite and a control freak to me
