@boomloverI just reread Crafty's backstory and you're basically describing an entirely different person. If he was a natural tinkerer, fine, fair enough. But he lived in a poor town so wouldn't have had much of any formal education, so he would be knowledgeable about certain things, but not just smart in general.
After that though, everything falls right apart. So he was captured by merciless slavers and forced into a labour camp. He would not at all get strong because no slaver in their right mind would feed the slaves enough for them to build up any serious muscle mass. Look up 'slave labour camp.' Everyone in those photos is malnourished and overworked.
So then everyone around him dies because reasons, but Crafty survives, also because reasons. So then one night, they forget to lock up Crafty's cage, fine, people make mistakes sometimes. But then Crafty breaks out all the other people, who you previously said are dying because reasons, with no keys, lockpicks or anything. So let's chock that one up to his natural craftiness, fair enough.
Then the malnourished, overworked, dying of mysterious causes slaved just straight up murder every merciless, armed, trained slaver there with no weapons. Because reasons.
So given all that ridiculous shit, Crafty is left emotionally dead and actually suicidal. That is probably the most reasonable thing about him. It would be totally understandable for a physically exhausted and emotionally damaged ex-slave with nothing else left to seek the sweet release of death, but then he wanders into the wastes, that are hot enough to kill a man in less than an hour by what
@6slyboy6 has said. That should have been the end of his story, but instead he survives because reasons.
Then the master of the slavers, who by your timeline was killed along with everyone in the miracle slave massacre puts a "huge" bounty on his head and pays several well trained men to hunt one single, easily replaceable slave worker, (say it with me, everyone) because reasons. So Crafty "fled from town to town trying to dodge them. However it all proved to be futile." Your wording here makes it sound like the bounty hunters caught up to him. Meaning that again, he should have reasonably been killed. But you don't expand on that any further so I have nothing else to go off of there.
So in conclusion, either the Crafty you described in your CS is a totally different person, or, as I'm more inclined to believe, you just didn't think anything through and are now trying to make excuses when being confronted on your borderline Mary Sue character.
