@SilverDawn It's essentially an entire website dedicated to Log Horizon RP, taking it to the level of a text-based MMO, and as far as I've browsed it seems very organized with character sheets and stat calculation (more for power gamers), multiple IC threads for "map" exploration, and as it's more established an increasingly developed lore. I'd just like to know what this thread can offer to the Log Horizon fandom RP that a dedicated website cannot. Not to discourage or put off your own dedication (and that OOC opener), but it seems a generic RP forum like the Guild is a bit inconsistent when it comes to users sticking with threads, and the work a GM puts in would have no return if interest is lost as soon as it's gained.

I'm gonna hop out of this conversation because it's really not making any sense. GLHF Scrubs!

Dude please just stop, while you may not mean it you may end up discouraging rise who join us after the ICC. Their are a bunch of rps based off of big anime like sword at online, fairy tail, bleach. But they can keep going if the gms are dedicated to the rp and the people that join are loyal. Just live with the fact that we are doing it here and we want to do this

@Jangel13 And I can have you attest to my dedication to RPs, yes? I'll leave my last questions at that, sorry if I'm being too objective, but I'm still a fresh face to forum RP and don't know the culture well enough.

Here's something to consider. What if people don't want to join a RP that has already started? Just off the top of my head, but yeah, novelty is an advantage that this RP has.

And just because the site is dedicated to it doesn't mean that the actual users are.

But the concerns are trivial. It's like asking, do I want a McDonalds or a 5-Star meal? Yes, the 5-Star meal may appear like a better option but sometimes, I just wanna stuff my face with a Big Mac. The answer of the difference between this and a dedicated site is only slightly objective and primarily subjective. Do you want a casual RP which is considerably more sociable (sorry, joining a Proboards just feels like being a new kid in school) and user-friendly or would you like a RP that has intensive stat-action and is incredibly in-depth? The key thing you might notice is the use of the personal pronoun - "you". It's an individual thing. If you don't want to do a Log Horizon RP here then don't do one here. Kinda clear-cut.

The site you linked may have in depth lore and mechanics, but there are people who are put off by that stuff, espically if its in the volume like that shown in the site. Some people don't want a text version of an MMO and just want to RP in the universe. I've made this claim on other occasions, but outside of table top RPs, no one wants and RP with heavy stats and strict rules and stuff, it seems too game-y in some aspects.

The people currently here are here because they want to have a character in the LH universe and see what kind of shit they can get into, not be bogged down by precise measurements and numbers. We all are mature enough to no powergame and we all expect the others to do the same. Its all for fun.

Now, pardon if I sound rude here, but I advise you not to sound so... harsh I guess? I'll admit when I first saw your post I thought you were discrediting RPGuild and saying that the site provided was much better because it had stats and rules and guidelines etc. Its often best not to bring up other RPing sites from what I've seen in my experience, it leaves a bad taste in everyone else's mouth.

See, the thing about it, I don't mind if this RP dies off quickly. Sure, I'll be disheartened and saddened, but I never would think that my work would have no return. I had fun making the OOC with Ostarion. It was a great time slipping as many dank maymays into the OOC to make Scrub Mage upset, but I digress. I don't think that this thread will offer anything to the Log Horizon fandom. To be honest, I don't think that a lot of things will ever offer much to the Log Horizon fandom. Instead, I think that what we offer is fun while writing to the participants. We're making a story together. That story doesn't need to be bogged down by word-based levels (no offense to the creators of the Log Horizon RP site) and other mechanics that slow down the pace of the story.

What Ashifili said is a large part of it, too.

People get discouraged when they want to play in a story, but much of that story has already happened. They don't get to experience the emotional rollercoaster that not-knowing has. Sure, they get to enjoy a story, but they won't feel involved. It feels like a slog when you're a nobody. It seems like you have to force yourself into the story to get any action done, which doesn't feel nice. At least, that's my experience with RPs.

Website RPs do have a place, but so do forum RPs. I think that for more hardcore roleplayers who like mechanics, they will aggregate to more specialized websites. Forum RPs are more for the casual crowds who just want to make a story that they enjoy the background/theme of. I can't speak for anyone else, but that's what I am. I enjoy writing, but I don't enjoy a bunch of mechanics that slow down writing. I also don't like writing alone. That sounds really depressing, but that's what I think of it.

I understand your question. It's actually a pretty valid question to be honest. I think it boils down to personal taste. I saw that RP site a few weeks ago, but I prefer this. Why? Because of its simplicity. Simple. When you don't focus on the minuet things such as the little stat numbers, and text length growth, its easier to simply enjoy an RP for good story telling and character development without having to overthink or constantly traverse through several different tabs and pages like you would at the RP site dedicated specifically to Log Horizon. It's more enjoyable when there's less of a burden. :)

Now that I've actually gotten a look at the RP forum...God damn, it's fucking elaborate. XD

Guess you really would have to be dedicated to read through all the rules and the articles and whatnot. It really is just a question of whether you want to invest some heavy time in a different forum dedicated to a single RP, or if you'd rather just have a casual RP that could develop into a long-term one.

Simply by watching the anime or reading the light novels or looking through the wiki, a whole bunch of problems presented by the Catastrophe already have solutions for them. Would Elder Tale EU have different solutions to said problems then (such as how to cook food with taste)? Or what.

They would have the same solutions (or different solutions, if the logic is soundproof), but the means would be different.

A good tip is to fill it with as many dank maymays as possible. People can't get mad at you if you meme them hard enough ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).
