Edit: Y'know, there was a snarky remark here, but I refuse to keep going back and forth with you fighting over the last word in a discussion I ended several posts ago. If you're absolutely required to bitch and moan about me because of some chronic ass pain to your friends, please do it in pm's. Its safe to say neither I, or anyone else wants to see it. Thank you.

I'm curious as to why this worries you. This issue mirrors the issue with standard interrupt rules where someone can easily exploit the interruption rule to do it every post. Its a matter of sportsmanship under either rule set, because both to me are equally exploitable.

I'm more worried because for interception they have to logically be able to explain the intercept, while excessive prepping is more open to interpretation on if you're going too far for your opponent's/the judges liking. More of your detailed rules could better paint the picture, though.

Whatever the case, me avoiding it for ranked battles would solve the worries unless people take non-ranked too seriously and stretch interpretations in their favor, but then I could just leave if it happens too often.

Well extensive prep is essentially just standing there charging up for a timeframe that stretches a bit too far to just be ignored. No different than preps being able to be stopped under the interrupt system if the guy is blatantly doing it or something.

The discussion ended yesterday, when I said you were free to do what you want. You didn't have to react with a shit post, so don't start suggesting your acting with overwhelming maturity and trying to keep the sub-forum clean of petty insults. Now, if you really are taking the moral high ground you won't be responding to this post, and that will officially be the end. I'm not going to take the time to pick apart your system, because it ultimately doesn't matter to me, your shitty attitude did, and I've already had all the fun I wanted goading it all out of you.

Ugh, making me rub my temples, man. That is exactly what I'm suggesting, given I stopped talking to you and interacting with you, yet you continued to keep my name in your mouth hours following my sign-off from the issue. If you were as mature as you consistently imply you are, you would have just accepted both of my previous resignations from the issue and maybe not responded yourself? Its a two way street. But anyway, we've both got whatever were gonna get out of it. So unless you are yet again going to passively make jabs at me while trying to get the last word, then yes, we are done here.

Edit: Actually, that isn't what I'm suggesting lol. I am not trying to keep the board clean in some attempt to prove maturity. I just literally wanted you to talk about me in pm's if you absolutely had to. I just don't feel like constantly reading your remarks about me, and I feel others give even less shits about it.

You two should get married.

On another note, I need several more ranked matches everyone. Gotta hurry before the season ends, eh?

@MelonHead it's funny how you think that just because you made no clearly defined insults, that you were not being vitriolic. Mind you, I'm not saying you were being vitriolic, I am saying it came off that way.

Also, tone does not convey well over the internet and you're doing that thing where you speak exactly what you think while using pure logic.

I've learned well (as someone who often comes off as an asshole online when I am NOT one) that it is better to insert a bit of humor and humanity into your posts. Makes it harder for people to take you the wrong way. Then again, that takes effort and I know some wish not to spend/waste time to put forth the effort required for that.

I don't care whether you do or not, but I mean, unless you want to be a constant source of arguments (as it seems other simply you tend to be) then I'd take that advice in mind. Or at least briefly consider it. Idk, it's your life man haha.

Also, you made a pitiful attempt of understanding his system before condemning it. Pity.

@Gun

Hmm.

Yeah, interrupts really only get absurd when you have people who move really fast, have tons of perception, can multitask a lot, and/or when you include the ability to dish out more than one attack per post or per timeframe.

Example: My whole fight with Khan in the recent tournament (Rising Darkness) in which both characters had pretty much all of the above. It didn't help that Khan wrote long posts with entire chains of actions, which were simply illogical (in terms of them occurring before my character reacted =_=).

Nonetheless. I'm quite used to interrupts myself and my discovery of them allowed a great amount of increased agency in combat--at least in my opinion.

I'm trying to figure out how your system works even after having read it just because the difference of the two systems interests me and I'd love to have a simple conversation/friendly debate about it. Nothing vitriolic. I tend not to assume things unnecessarily, so yeah.

My understanding of your "no illogical interrupts," system:

"Interrupts are defined as Retroactive attacks/defenses/counters/evasions carried out in such a way that they invalidate(as I understand it) the other character's action(s)."

>Interrupts are allowed in the sense that you may use them as long as they do not retroactively cause a character to nullify actions taken by another character entirely.
>Interrupts must be logical (You can use them if someone is clearly preparing something or you can predict/tell someone is telegraphing an attack in some manner)
>Barring the above, the other character's actions as written in the associated post cannot be stopped. However, someone can move out of the way, bring up a defense, take cover or perhaps close distance so long as the action does not altogether stop their actions.
>Most other things are as per the norm.

@yoshua171 Nothing to really discuss insofar as mechanics, because honestly, you hit every nail right on the head. Your understanding of the system is pretty spot on, bud.

Please stop arguing with the Melon.

The Melon has no empathy or reason, so trying to argue with him is ultimately futile. Because he will never see your point.

Huh, neat.

Well, @Gun my only question since that's all accurate are as follow:

1.) When you say "retroactive," or "retroactively," what specifically do you mean in regards to interrupts? In my experience the idea of interrupts works by the principle that actions in two posts are happening more or less simultaneously as in real life.

I might have one other question, but I can't recall it at the moment.

@yoshua171Well, retroactive means retroactive in the sense that its used lol. By that, I mean while actions may be occurring simultaneously, by interrupting and stopping an action from ever having occurred when it was stated previously as currently happening, then you have, quite literally, time travelled, or at least manipulates it grossly. Actions have been entirely removed from the timeline, and is therefore 'retroactive'.

Hope this helps.

I think, and it is just an opinion, is for you to look at CS's in the character thread. See how they are set up, specifically the powers. Then we can do the conversions to build your character.

Dav, have you looked at some of the character sheets here? You'll note that the powers/magic elements are always detailed. You're character, if they are magically delicious needs to convert D&D/Pathfinder spells so it fits into the text combat format. Mostly have a description of the effects and range. Saving throws are out. The bonuses to hit are out, the whole number effect is pretty much out. The numerical damage in terms of dice is the hard part as damage is described and implied, while not forcing it on your opponent. What do you have so far? What questions do you have.

Most people don't use interrupts to prevent past actions, therefore future actions; they are mainly used to stop future actions by stopping them in between. The only person I've actually even seen try to stop them after they've happened was Khandy, who even had an ability specifically for that.

Most, however, use it in a manner of thus:

Person A runs towards person B, utilizing two diagonal slashes, and then a backwards spin slash, thing.

Person B can interrupt at several points here, actually, depending on the time scale of Person A's ability

1) Person B moves as Person A does, meeting them just before they execute their two slashes, and aiming a cut of his own towards their sternum. This cancels both slashes, and the last slash... thing.

2) Person B deftly dodges the first slash, and cuts towards Person A, as they are raising their blade to continue with the second slash. This cancels out the final two attacks.

3) Person B, after guarding against the two diagonal slashes, bumrushs Person A as they spin for their backwards slash, aiming to slam a shoulder into their back. This ends their last attempt.

Neither one goes back in time, they all just do the logical thing. If you would, could you provide an instance of an illogical interrupt? From what I'm reading, your issue is less with interrupts, than people who are time weavers. xD
