Borrower's done. Complete with girl-in-fridge backstory, and updated costume. If anyone wants to have some sort of relationship with Joey, (coworker, went to the same college, etc.) or with The Borrower, (Enemies, Seen on news, etc.) then that'd be cool.
Character You Have Created
Joey Marino

Alias
The Borrower

Speech Color
N/A

Character Alignment
Villain, subject to change when there are enough villains.

Identity
Secret

Character Personality
Joey is a prime example of the result of good people forced to do bad things. He is a good person at heart, feeling responsible for each of his crimes, and actively avoiding killing when it is possible. In fact, all of his crimes are robbery-based -- he has no desire for vengeance, power, or even bloodlust that many other villains do. However, he has a use for money, and there is little he would not do for enough of it. Although he dislikes killing, if it becomes a question of kill-or-be-killed, Joey would not hesitate to end a life. At face-value, he is a warm person, which he hides completely as The Borrower. He is extremely anxious at times, which takes the form of nightmares and panic attacks.

Uniform/costume

The Borrower's energy blasts take on a blue-ish color, which he has modeled his costume off. The darker colors are designed to attract solar energy to charge himself with, whereas the blue areas are made of fire-retardant kevlar. His boots are shock resistant, allowing him to escape large falls unscathed. However, his costume lacks any hand protection, as his hands need to be uncovered for his powers to work.

If it wasn't for the anxiety disorder, Joey would be considered quite the catch. He was a track star in high school, and is a strict vegetarian. He trains at a local gym a few times a week, and tries staying at a peak-physical condition. He has a tattoo of the Pisces symbol over his heart, and has very light scars on his palms. His mask hides a very identifiable scar on his forehead he gained during his second robbery.

Origin Info/Details
Joey was born in Brooksdale, an unassuming neighborhood in Lost Vale, to an unassuming family, The Marinos. Joey went through school with average grades, landing a scholarship in high school for track. Unbeknownst to him, this was when his powers began to evolve. Joey noticed that he never ran especially faster than his competitors, but they would always have difficulty keeping up when they neared him. Later on, he would realise that he was sapping their kinetic energy. Joey would continue to keep his powers hidden for the rest of his life, While learning how to control them in secret. Shortly after enrolling in a local college, Joey met Maria Ramirez. The two were an inseparable couple, with plans of becoming engaged. However, Joey and Maria's relationship would not reach this point. Nearly a year ago, Joey had been driving out of state with Maria on a roadtrip, when they had a near-fatal accident. Joey left unscathed, but Maria was sent into a coma. When they had reached the hospital, Joey was told that the chance of her living was less than 1%, and the fees to keep her alive in the hospital were staggering. Stricken with guilt, Joey turned to crime to fund her maintenance, hoping to eventually find a way to revive her.

Power Level
Upper B (City Level)

Powers

Active Energy Absorption
Joey can absorb any type of energy through his palms, almost instantly. By touching a car, he can absorb the electric energy in it's battery, or immediately stop it by absorbing the kinetic energy. He can absorb electric energy by touching power boxes, electric appliances, or even electric-based metahumans. In terms of thermal energy, he can take the thermal energy from living things, as well as from fires and heaters.

Passive Energy Absorption
Joey does not need to be touching a target to absorb it's energy, but it is much faster when he is. Joey can absorb energy in high doses without realising it, such as bullets fired at him not retaining enough kinetic energy to pierce his skin, or absorbing the electricity from nearby cellphones in use.

Active Energy Expulsion
Energy that Joey absorbs can be shot out from his palms, in the form of blasts or waves. The energy is a unique combination of whatever he has absorbed, taking the form of blue-ish concussive energy that strikes targets in a physical manner, without burning or shocking them. He can charge these blasts, making them grow in size and strength, and increase in recoil. If Joey charges a blast too much, the recoil can damage him.

Passive Energy Expulsion
Joey's stored energy can be released without firing his concussive blasts. This energy is emitted without using his palms, and is used to fuel fires, overload machinery, and accelerate his own kinetic energy.

Weaknesses

Emotionally Unstable
Joey's response to his girlfriend being in a coma was not to learn a lesson about letting go, but to become a violent criminal with the hopes of reviving her with magic or superscience. This is not a mark of a completely sane person. His anxiety attacks range in intensity from being uncomfortable, to having full-fledged flashbacks and leaving heists halfway through, in complete terror. He is set off with reminders or mentions of his girlfriend. Additionally, telepaths can easily sense his inner depression and anxiety. If Joey was to ever take an evaluation, he would almost immediately be diagnosed with Panic Disorder.

Overcharge
If Joey charges one of his blasts too much, he can hurt himself. Although this usually takes the form of knockback, or stunning recoil, Joey has the capability to potentially break, or even blow off his arms by overcharging an attack.

Empathy
Joey has a strong sense of right and wrong, and if situations had been different, the capability to be a great hero. The moments of hesitation he has to kill or injure others can be faults in his crimes.

Supporting Characters

Maria Ramirez
Joey's longtime girlfriend, put into a coma nearly a year ago. His crime pays off her medical bills, which he plans on continuing to pay until he can find a way of reviving her.

"I will never leave you."
Joey cradled Maria's head in his arms, patting her on the back, muffling her sobbing. She had spent the afternoon being scolded by her parents for dating out of her race, with her father promising infidelity and abandonment by Joey. She had practically been disowned for being with him, and he knew this -- It wasn't fear of him leaving that made her cry, but the resentment she received from her family. They had been together for years, though, and this wasn't likely to change. After a few minutes of his consolation, she raised her head from his chest, wiping her tears, and sighing deeply. They stared at each other in the dark, illuminated by the moon, and smiled.
"Don't leave me in this hospital to die, Joey." She whispered into his ear.

Joey woke up in a cold sweat, gasping for air. Another nightmare. He stared at his ceiling for a moment, letting his pulse slow. This was the third nightmare that week. He listened to the quiet tick-tock of his clock, before rolling to his side to check the time. 4:33 AM. The hospital would be opened to visitors in a half-hour. Joey tiredly pulled himself out of bed, letting his feet hit the cold hardwood floor. Pulling a dirty shirt out of his hamper, he wiped the remaining sweat from his forehead. He got dressed quickly, throwing on a hoodie and some jeans. Stepping into the bathroom, he examined himself in the mirror of his medicine cabinet. He looked, unsurprisingly, tired. Opening his medicine cabinet, he twisted open a small orange bottle, tossing two red pills into his mouth. He crushed them up with his teeth, staring into the mirror.

Joey sat in the waiting room, absentmindedly flipping through a home improvement magazine. He strained to read so early in the morning, underneath the fluorescent lights of the hospital. As his name was called, he slowly shuffled to her room. She looked the same as ever, with all of the tubes and wires and machines hooked up to her. It used to be too much for him to handle, but not anymore. He sat by her side, holding on to her hand. He would normally talk to her about his day, whispering into her ear, in the hopes she could hear him. But now, no words would come. He was still too shaken up from his dream. He brushed some of the hair out of her face, dabbing here and there with a napkin to clean her eyes. When it was time for him to leave, he got up, rubbing his face, as if he was waking up. Before stepping out, he whispered to her, the same phrase he had recited countless times.
"I will never leave you."

Worth noting. Any character that can percieve the afteraffects of spells or magical activity, will, in Lost Haven, be able to see a network of magical pathways laid across the city, linking the homes of Will's small group of magically active people. They'll also potentially be able to detect magical activity in various places in the city, such as places where they've mediated interactions between spirits and mortals ('No, you probably shouldn't inhabit this telephone pole, however, can we interest you in a secluded grove? We might be able to add some enchantments to make people steer clear if you're coorperative...') or where they've had to engage in heroics (whether against mortals or spirits).
I'll probably make my next post on the weekend if nothing happens involving my character before then (which is fine, I mean more that it takes effort to initiate character interaction, and I won't have that time till then).

I'd be willing, if you'll have me. Our characters personalities are actually similar, they are both good people doing bad things (or in my case, about to do bad things). Also, they both lost their lover in the last year... =A= How weird. So they could either get along great or clash like crazy. I don't really have any ideas as far as back stories go, but they could definitely meet soon, if we planned something out with them. Up to you!

My character is a magic user who initial focused on healing magic, so maybe they could mess around trying to find ways to bring his girlfriend out of her coma (if my character ever finds out about that and is on good terms with him). Of course, I'm not claiming that they'd be successful, but they could definitely try.

For the record, I'm fine with using a different concept, I chose between three, only one of which was Mystic.

Magic, probably. Say they're just naturally more likely to arise there and/or are drawn subconsciously to the area. Maybe someone moved a magical artefact of silly power there,or its just naturally like that.
Though admittedly, Ireland or Tibet or Mesopotamia, bits of Greece or basically loads of places would be more appropriate than Maine ._.

That said; I hope we do some cohesive magic hero team-ups in the near future.

How experienced are our magic users at that? Huxley is pretty much year one-- some arcane bolts, shields, etc. but not a whole lot of Dr. Fate level "screw you" fun.

I think I'm going to put a moratorium on any further mystic heroes at the moment. That way we can get a bit more diversity in the game, there's one other that I've been discussing with someone, and I would allow him to play the character we've discussed, but other than that, let's hold off.

Well, I personally think that the nature of our four mystics (five if you count supernaturals as part of mystics) are different enough from one another. Only two of the characters (The Mage and Epione), from what I have read from their character sheets, are the pure "wizard/magic users". The other two (or three if you count Barsavis) has powers coming from different sources. Barsavis is a supernatural being/ a personification of nature. Legions main power is duplication of himself and other people/ objects. And Aegis seems to have a limited scope of "magical" powers (healing, walls, shards). Furthermore, Legion and Aegis are not native to Lost Haven, Maine. Plus, Lost Haven (almost wrote New Haven >.<) is about NYC sized, if I recall correctly.

Yeah, Huxley is trained in what we call "arcane lines that reach into other dimensions (including the magic source wall).", so we all do have different sources.
