The Magus Games Arc


The students have reached Liseranna and are now accomodating in their new dorms along their new roommates.

It is a time of meetings and new friendships.

"But that alone would be boring right?"

The young mages of Liseranna cannot let down their guards even for a moment. The erasers still lurk in the shadows, waiting for when the time is right to strike.

There will be an announcement shortly in classroom A-190, but what could it be if not the great Magus Games?

The Magus Games. An event held twice a year. The first one at the start of it, and the other one at the end of it.

It is meant to gauge the practical uses of a mage in battle and other such situations. They give the mages a ranking, proof of their worth and power.

The Erasers are the people standing at the top of the food chain. They wish not for competition or to lose their place in the rankings. The ones at the top get the best contracts, after all.

They will use any underhanded method they can, to ensure that their plans are a success.

"And if that doesn't work? Well, they will simply face you fair and square in the battlefield. They are dangerous even like that, so don't look down on them. They are just making double-sure with their Erasals."

"Push yourself as hard as you want. I will be able to cure just about anything. Even death, if you don't mind the temporary brain damage that comes along with it."

"........ Some times you can be even more grim than myself, you know?"

"I am just a realist. And if you ever compare me to you again, you will die."

So, what will it be? Where will you end up in the rankings?

The Story So Far


The existance and presence of the Eye Of Baphel has been revealed by Director A and he has set the students off for a wild goose chase to find him. In exchange for handing him over, the Director has promised unparalleled power.

The Magus Games have also been announced and preparations are underway.

However! In the dead of the night, the Erasers attack!.... and end up all dead. Tough luck.

Now, it's some free time, time for more characters to come into play and to deepen your relationships.

First and foremost, Ezeras is a man of knowledge. His hobbies and spare time consist of study and experimentation in both science and magic. This is not to say that he is stoic and cold. His passion for information and discovery drives him to pierce the darkness of ignorance and forage the path to new insight. When inquired, Ezeras could gladly talk for as long as needed in order to answer someone's question or show them some magical display.

Equipment
Ezeras' lack of armor or a weapon would hint that he travels light, were it not for the many tomes, materials and ingredients that he carries on person for various magical needs. He sports simple scholar's garb: a robe and slacks accented with many pockets and a large wizard's hat.

Biography / History
Ezeras had a very easy childhood. As soon as he could talk, his family knew he would be a prodigy. He made quick work of any learning institution he was put through, and showed to command the forces of magic almost as naturally as the sorcerers. But through his study and understanding, Ezeras rose to become a powerful wizard. By the time he reached the adolescent years of his early 100's, he had already become not only one of the highest performing students, but moving on to teaching as the most powerful Evoker in the school. He's held his title rightfully since the age of one hundred and twelve, and has helped many aspiring magicians reach the title of Wizard.

Nicknames/Titles: Lin, Hua, Heir Of The House Of Xiao, Young Master

Magic: Naturalis: Gaia Augmentation.

Lin's magic allows him to draw from the force of nature and use it in addition to his very own fighting style. This allows him to make his body as hard as a rock or his hands as sharp as steel.

Strengths: He can draw power from just about anything. If a structure is made out of rock, he can take the power out from that rock, or if there is a steel wall, he can also draw power out from that. This combined with his vast knwoledge of martial arts proves for an extremely dangerous kind of magic. He can take augmentations from three resources at the same time.

Weaknesses: Keeping up a single augmentation wastes mana until it is dispeled. Keeping an augmentation on also wears down the resource from where Lin took his power, and when such a thing happens, Lin's augementation is also dispeled. Destroying the resource Lin is taking his augmentation from will also dispel his magic. Lin can only draw power from minerals, so he can't transform into water or similars.

Catalyst: His catalyst is a dragon tattoo in his back. It is an special tattoo made out of the ink of a Kraken, a beast commonly hunted by the men of the Xiao Long family as a coming of age ritual. He usually has it covered so that people cannot guess his heritage from a simple glance.

Inventory: Lin usually carries with him a pair of sais to use in battle.

Pesonality: Ever heard of a gilded cage? That's exactly what happens with Lin Hua.

The young master of Chinese noble house Xiao Long feels that there is nothing he can do without being seen, and that might as well be true.

He's developed several habits because of this. He is light on his feet and you will probably never hear him coming.

He tends not to speak too much of himself until he is finally sure that you are not an spy from his family.

He doesn't answer private numbers or unknown numbers in his mobile.

His guard is always up and ready until he is sure that you are not his enemy.

He will also be extremely rude to any woman trying to get overly friendly with him. More than one arranged marriage partner has tried to approach him like that.

After getting through that and making sure you aren't in any kind of relation with his family, he will become a lot more friendly and easy to talk with.

However, he is still a spoiled and whimsical child for all the time he's spent living secluded and close to his family. Sometimes, he tends not to understand his own emotions and, despite claming that he wants only to encounter the woman he loves and marry that same woman. Even he isn't sure if he even knows what love really is.

Backstory: The Xiao Long family. Your ever so cliche Chinese noble house.

Everything was calm and relaxing. Tea ceremonies in the morning. Kung-fu and Tai chi in the afternoon. Wedding ceremonies and correct manners at noon. Sleeping at correct hours too. It was severely frowned upon staying up too late.

While Lin Hua always had every toy at his disposal that he wanted and could order around as many of the manservants in the mansion as he pleased, the boy never really did seem satisfied with that.

The Xiao Long are a long line of Naturalis magicians, but they don't really make an habit of sending off their heirs to magic schools in fear of other houses stealing their magic secrets. However, Lin Hua was an special case.

It is not that he lacked the talent and large mana pool that years and years of mages had created and only for him to inherit, it was just that he didn't seem to have any intention to learn magic.

When they asked him why he wouldn't accept the training given to him, he said that because everything was really boring. It wasn't much of a reason, but everyone knew Lin Hua's whimsical nature. If he said he wasn't going to do something, he simply won't, and that was the end of it.

In order to satisfy the young master, they asked him what he wanted. Lin answered that he wanted to go to school, like every other teenager. His family decided to let him attend to Liseranna, where he could study his magic and become a worthy heir of the house of Xiao Long. Perhaps even find a suitable consort.

Of course, Lin has no intention of doing that, and can't seem to be able to wait until he gets permission to go in missions. If he does, he can either fake his death or escape altogether without looking back. In any case, he just wishes to get away from his family and its rigid traditions.

Despite Lin's sheltered nature and often times unfriendly disposition, he was able to find a Fenrir one of the several times he escaped from his home and into the woods.

Shikio, the Fenrir he managed to befriend, was definitely powerful... and he really wanted a pet. Why not keep a sexy dog girl as one? He decided to bring the girl back home, using both his cunning and position to make a juicy contract with her and her somewhat... difficult personality.

The elder of his family admitted her great potential for magic and actually allowed for the Fenrir to become the Xiao Long familiar.

Starting her contract with the next head of the house just seemed ideal, if only Lin's personality was a little bit less difficult than Shikio's own personality.

Ranking Class: She is classified as a Witch, but her true potential without her spirit is that of a simple mage in training.

Magic: Pythones: Sloth Spirit Belphegor 'Belly'.

It is well known that Belphegor is a sloth 'demon' in Catholic religion. However, it is in fact a sloth spirit. It is not evil but rather lazy. It cannot live without possessing a host every century or so, and always waits for that limit to be reached before possessing a new host.

The one unfortunate or perhaps fortunate enough to have been possessed was small potential mage Charlotte.

Strengths: Charlotte is able to either physically manifest Belphegor to fight by her side OR can be completely possessed by the spirit and gain its abilities. In such an state she gains superhuman abilities like immense strength, astonishing speed and the knowledge of the spirit possessing her. Belphegor is able to induce sloth in others and make them lazy and even make them fall asleep with enough mana.

Weaknesses: Belphegor, as a spirit of sloth, is extremely lazy, and will not act unless Charlotte is truly in danger. When possessed, Charlotte's personality changes and she exchanges positions to become the spirit inside the body, while Belphegor uses her body. Killing Charlotte in this state would make her an spirit, and would definitely kill Belphegor, a spirit that has trascended life and death for several centuries now. Also, Charlotte's body isn't as resilient as to withstand the enormous strength and abilities of Balphegor and may even end up with broken bones or completely incapacitated after a fight, if she ever does get into one.

Catalyst: Belphegor possesses her and her body itself is the catalyst. However, and to study how to make actual magic, she has chosen a bracelet.

Inventory: Sweets. Lots and lots of them. She also carries toys with her wherever she goes.

Familiar: Doesn't have one.

Squad Name: Can't even be in one.

Pesonality: Extremely childish, even for a girl her age. She is naive, she is loud and she is a complete airhead.

If there is something that is true is that she has been sheltered and taken care for all of her life. Even now that she is at Liseranna after seeing her talent to befriend even a malicious spirit known to kill its hosts as soon as he possessed them, she is protected by that same spirit, even if it tries not to make it look like it.

Charlotte just seems to be a magnet for problems, and her personality oddly makes her get into even more problems.

Above all, she has an optimistic look on life, despite having been possessed she still sees it as a good thing, and as an opportunity to make a good friend that will accompany her for life.

Her moral compass is also stupidly inclined to good. She won't accept good coming from an evil, if it can't be done the right way, then it can't be done at all. When something like this happens is the only time she will actually rise up and fight.

Belphegor, in contrast, is an extremely lazy spirit. Most of the time, it keeps its mouth shut and prefers to just be an spectator, but when Charlotte is about to make an idiotic suggestion so as to help someone who doesn't need helping or walking right into a death trap.

He will forcefully take over Charlotte's body in order to enhance her abilities and be able to use his own magic. When this happens, however, his true personality is brought to light.

As always, he is a lazy spirit, but he is also sarcastic, extremely crude, likes to pick fights, prone to being a pervert and flirty. He loves to chase skirts and will even stoop as low as to act as Charlotte to sneak peeks at the bodies of other women. Though he does care and worry for Charlotte, it does not extend to anyone else. He couldn't care less about other people and can kill without any qualm whatsoever.

Though Charlotte doesn't tend to get into a lot of fights, she does get into fights with Balphegor whenever he calls her a 'boy dressed as a girl', 'no boobs' or 'flat chest'.

Backstory: Born to a normal family in some generic city of the USA, Charlotte spent most of her time playing around and just doing well, kid-like things. Her personallity has always been the same, and no matter what happened she never really did seem worried.

Something happened when she was around 10, however. She started experiencing night terrors as Belphegor tried to possess her.

It was her potential as a mage that made it hard for the spirit to enter her body. Belphegor thought about giving up since it was too much of a hassle but... being able to consume a woman with such potential would probably keep him fed for several more centuries without having to possess someone else. He could just lollygag without a care in the world.

Yes, that was the reason why he decided to go through the hassle of possessing Charlotte. To save future effort. However, when he did so, he met the incredibly oddball that is Charlotte.

Her smile was like the sun and Balphegor found it irritating. Her energy that made Balphegor give chase to her spirit to catch it upsetted him. The fact that she was still happy despite her imminent doom was oddly irritating for Balphegor, but he could not deny that he hadn't had this kind of fun in ages.

Later, he decided to actually talk to the girl. When they got to talking he thought to himself something he never thought would happen, that killing such a human would just be a waste.

So he decided to form a friendship/contract with Charlotte. Afterwards, it wasn't long for a teacher from Liseranna to discover her and scout her.

She decided to go to learn how to manifest Balphegor and finally see the face of the spirit residing alongside her.

Pythones: The Dragonslayer, Sasaki Kojiro

Juliann is possessed by the spirit of the nameless samurai, Sasaki Kojiro, who truly was an spirit to begin with, which was the actual reason for why it was so hard to locate him to begin with.

He is a wandering warrior, who often moved from one body to the other without qualms, giving the possessed body an incredible ability with the blade that could hardly be compared by anyone else in feudal Japan, and still continues to be one of the best.

Thanks to Juliann's talent as a mage and also as a swordsman, the warrior has been bound to her for quite a while now, training her for the day she doesn't need his help any longer.

Sasaki Kojiro does not offer any special ability to his host, nor does he talk in place of them like Balphegor, instead, he either takes over a body completely or manifests at times when the negative energy in a place is strong enough. Instead, he relies his knowledge upon his host so that they can fight.

Juliann is incredibly skilled with a sword and a master swordsman in her own right, however her style is definitely that of a western warrior. The training and knowledge from Sasaki have allowed her to create a completely original sword technique.

Contritio: Sword Art

Extremely versatile yet neutral in nature, the Contritio Sword Art is a special fighting style involving sword techniques and magic.

More about this will be explained IC.

Contritio: Kanji Magic

The love child of her sword art and constant training with Sasaki Kojiro.

When she activates this magic, her sword slashes will leave an ink-like substance made out of mana. Depending on what she writes (as a kanji) is what will be activated.

E.G. if she writes the kanji 火 for fire, then whatever she wrote it on will catch on fire.

Strengths: Her magic is not only versatile, but also extremely deadly. Some times, people can't catch with the eyes when she takes her sword out. Her strength is gargantuan too, and her body though curvaceous is definitely more ripped than the body of any other male teacher. Her magic allows for elements to be created out of nothingness and, unlike other magicks, hers is not limited by the branch of magic she is uses.

Weaknesses: As it should be expected, Juliann's magic is extremely mana consuming. Her mana is being turned into ink when using her Kanji Magic and to enhance her strength and speed to the point she needs them to in her Sword Arts are also too tiring. Her kanji magic is also extremely limited to her knowledge of Japanese characters, though Sasaki tends to teach her new ones regularly.

Catalyst: The cursed sword, Kreuz. It is what made her left eye turn red. There is not a single good point about this sword, other than the fact that it can constantly replenish the mana of the user, though that comes at the price of her own life. She's never used this technique.

Using it is tiring too. When casting, the sword also consumes more mana than any one normal catalyst.

It is also attached to Juliann and she can't get rid of it nor can she use another sword. She's already lost a hand trying to. Seemingly, it is also nigh indestructible and incredibly sharp, being able to cut cleanly through steel without as much as a problem.

To compensate for these other two good points, however, is the fact that it is extremely heavy. Juliann herself could not lift it for several years until her training was completed.

Inventory: Reading glasses. A phone and a wallet (try stealing it)

Personality: Juliann has often been compared to a dragon. She only acknowledges the strong and looks down on the weak. If you have a problem with someone, then solve it with your fists, not with petty words.

This does not mean, however, that she goes around picking fights with whoever gets in her way. She is patient and has the understanding of a saint. It is actually hard to make her mad, but when you do, well, you'd better run for your life.

Though Sasaki is a teacher to her more than a hassle, she is painfully aware of the fact that not every spirit is as benevolent and good as her own master, so she decided to take up the job as a teacher in Liseranna.

Perhaps also impose some order upon the rebellios brats. More than one seems to think they are god brought back to life to walk with the peasants.

Backstory: For now, let's just say that she has an story with the Eye of Baphel she'd rather not share. You shall discover more IC.

Magic:
Presitgae: Hazy Moon
Meruin is primarily a follower Presitgae school of magic, and as such is most proficient in it use. Her main magic in this school is the aptly named Hazy Moon. Simply put, Meruin create's a field and within that field is a 'beacon'. The beacon, though lacking in substance, can take any form Meruin wishes it to take - in other words, it can look like a person, object, or animal - and can move anywhere inside the field. This beacon interacts with the mind to create 'phantom sensations', sensations that feel real, however only distantly, such as if it was something remembered from a long time ago or something experienced from a particularly vivid dream. The longer one interacts with the beacon, however, the more these phantom sensations become 'real', to the point that what it does and its effects on the body are irrelevant to the actual reality of the situation.

Presitgae: Theoretical Dysphoria/Euphoria
Dysphoria/Euphoria is a magic that creates an illusion of 'feeling', by controlling the feeling of fatigue, joy, anger, disappointment and triumph. By manipulating these feelings, Meruin creates conditions of confidence (or overconfidence) or disappointment (or depression) and can also manipulate the feeling of 'effort' in an action.

Presitgae: Light Queen's Cradle
Light Queens Cradle is a field type magic that allows Meruin to twist a persons perception of light within that field, making objects disappear from vision, seem closer or farther, or larger than usual.

Alchimia: Basic - although quick and good quality - transmutations, usually used to supplement her illusions. Nothing special, asides from the fact that she can do transmutations from a distance. Part of her alchemy is the ability to sense the components and structure of objects - including living things - that give her an in-depth analysis on it, making her high-speed transmutations possible. She cannot transmute objects with souls unless their magic resistance is lowered to a point where they cannot prevent her magic from entering the body.

Pythones: Elemental Spirit Summons
A very basic use of the school of magic, however, Meruin is able to quickly cycle through her summons in order to facilitate faster effects. As with her Alchemy, Meruin mostly uses Necromancy to enhance her illusions.


Strengths:
There are two great strengths to Meruin's magic: subtly, and absoluteness. The effects or Meruin's spells generally do not have an overt, noticeable effect until the moment where something is off, but by that point the 'absoluteness' kicks in. It's effects cannot be counteracted even if one knows that it is an illusion. The best bet you have of defeating them by this point is outside help or flailing around until you hit Meruin.
Specifics:
Hazy Moon: it's greatest strength is the fact that the beacon can mimic the action of whatever form Meruin chooses it to take - including the action of casting a spell. Once the hold on its victims mind grows strong enough, the spells that it 'casts' will do the same damage - at least mentally - on its target as if an actual spell were cast.
Dysphoria/Euphoria: Control is one of the greatest tools of a mage; without it, every spell is potentially fatal. Meruin, by subtly influencing the efforts it takes to cast spells, and the confidence of its caster, can completely eliminate the control of any spell caster caught in its influence. Meruin can also cast it on herself to boost her next spell despite the consequences.
Light Queens Cradle: Manipulating light at any level is a powerful skill, especially to those dependent on it. It determines the distance of objects for us, keeps us conspicuous, and too much of it too quickly blinds or nauseates people - sometimes even knocking them out.


Weaknesses:
A major weakness almost all of Meruin's magic shares is their cumbersome cast time. It takes a long period to set up the field - and this has to be done by physically marking the place - and then getting the magic itself to activate. Moreover, plenty of her spells rely on a 'field' to work. Meaning that if one were outside the field, they will remain completely unaffected.
A second major weakness is the fact that all of Meruin's spells have a specific number of targets; in other words, from the moment the magic is casted, Meruin has chosen a number of targets and only that number can be affected. If an additional target is added, then that target is unaffected until Meruin can recast the spell to include the newcomer into the field of effect.
Specifics:
Hazy Moon: it's greatest weakness is the fact that it takes a long time to cast and more time to greatly affect its targets. Also, if Meruin cannot be outside of the field when Hazy Moon is cast - if she were to step out or was forced out, the beacon disappears and the spell breaks.
Dysphoria/Euphoria: Though the effect are almost always as Meruin intend them to be, what those effects lead to are in question - sometimes, a little overconfidence is exactly what her target needs, or otherwise her target needed some caution to succeed in their next spell.

Pesonality:
Meruin does not get 'social ques' or social interaction in general. She is introverted, taciturn, blunt and observant. Meruin feels very little in the way of shame, and unless given a logical reason, will generally not think on halting her course of action despite the social violations it causes. Meruin is rather drowsy for the most part, usually not bothering to exert energy into things she thinks is not worth the effort, moreover, Meruin is usually only interested in anything regarding magic, being practically addicted to studying. Meruin, despite her silent exterior, is insanely driven towards her goal of becoming 'special' and will use any method, no matter how dangerous or painful to achieve that goal.

Backstory:
Meruin's family, much to her surprise, came from a long family of mages. Once, they were quickly on the fast track to becoming a powerful and renowned family in the world of magic, however, the birth of a certain man in the family quickly crushed that rise. Among the family, he was black-sheep, unable to cast even the most basic of magics. Rather than give up quietly or try some other method, the man decided to start a revolution within the family - that is to say, he managed to somehow convince half of the family that magic was unnecessary to them and a simple detriment to finding a happy life, and that it should be forgotten entirely if they wanted to be truly happy.
His radical notions started a civil war within Meruin's family, causing its most gifted and magically capable members to die out rapidly. By the time the conflict was over, the remaining members were either inept or disinterested with magic. Such as Meruin's father. He grew up mediocre and encouraged his kids to be the same, telling them that being great was just simply cause for conflict.
And Meruin hated the man that she called father to her core.
Meruin hated her father more than anyone in her entire life - he was the first and only person she could actually say she hated - and cursed him and her mother and siblings for buying into his ideology of leading a mediocre life. Meruin felt that if she really tried, she could become great - no, not just great, but singular. A special existence.
And that was when she discovered she was magic.
Her father was aghast of course, but Meruin was ecstatic. More than just being magic, it seemed Meruin was a throwback to when the family still had mages with prodigious magic reserves. Despite her fathers efforts to stamp out her magic, to dissuade her from practicing it, Meruin still managed to contact her uncle - the only one she knew was still an active mage, even if he wasn't very skilled. The uncle managed to secure her a place in Liseranna Academy via a contact of his, and Meruin said goodbye to her family on board a boat to the Academy's island.
She has not looked back since.

Reina is the wielder of a very special ability. From the very first moment she was born it was already known that she essentially is a one way portal to the spirit realm as far as they knew. Reina is able to suck up spirits, phantoms and everything else that doesn't belong in the human world. When she activates her ability a tornado appears from her mouth and will try to suck up everything close by. Items from earth will take 4 times longer to suck up the items that don't belong in the human realm. Mana will also be sucked up and stored in her own mana pool.

Strengths:
Powerful as support, Won't ever leave her out of mana.

Weaknesses:
Highly immobile when she activates her ability. She isn't combat capable so she mostly sits on the sidelines waiting till it's her chance.

Personality:
Reina a calm and kind girl, but she thinks it's embarrassing for her when other see her using her ability. At times she can be shy and reserved. However, she have good manners and treats everyone with respect, which is seen when she usually speaks in honorifics (san, kun, sama) etc. She also likes to eat and does eat a lot for her size, saying that her dream is going to an all-eat buffé.

Backstory:
Reina grew up in a rich family and was treated well even when they knew she had such a power within her. She was treated like no other member of the noble family, with respect and kindness. She learned to be polite and good mannered by her parents and her home teacher. Reina quite easily learned to handle her own powers and could hold herself back almost all the time. She wasn't allowed to use it anywhere for her own benefits for the sake of the ones around her.

Reina was introduced more to the outside world when she was older and she could handle it all fairly well. She knew that her powers weren't suppose to be known to the outside world and if it were the case it could be used in terrible ways by the government. The only thing that wouldn't withstand her from showing it to the world was her appetite. She could never go eat outside of her house or get any treats from the super markets. The only place she was allowed to eat was at home. If she were to ever get into a supermarket on her own it would mean the end of the world. That was when it happened, her dream was set. She had never heard of anything like it before but she fell in love with it. An all you can eat buffet. Her parents however hardly declined it. She would never set foot in a place like that or the restaurant would go broke.

Reina was soon invited to Liseranna Academy and her parents approved of it so she could grow as a person and learn more about her ability.
