As a side note, what do you guys think of the first-person perspective? Does it make the character seem more alive, or does it make the events hard to follow? Neither? Both? Other?

I'm trying to vary my writing style a little, and I have found that the first person is the easiest and most fun to write.

I would also agree with Silver Fox as well.

Your first-person perspective wasn't bad. But usually read everyone's post as if I'm reading a book and a majority of time people post with third-person which makes it sound better. Just like Silver Fox mentioned, it can be a bit disorienting for me with the constant. But I'm okay if you switch back and forth with it, especially of you're comfortable with it. My preference is just third-person since it would be easier to read everyone post like that, but it doesn't take too long for me to adjust to a to first-person.

Well Ferrin is basically Harry Copperfield Blackstone Dresden so the first person feels pretty natural to me.

Give this man a cookie!

Yeah, Dresden files is one of my favorite book series, and Ferrin is a little me, a little Harry, and a little invented.

(And yes, @Lugubrious A tiny bit of a self-insert.)

Also, tell me this: how does one person have a ridiculously powerful combat magic, illusion magic, invisibility, complete magic detection, and telepathy? Doesn't that strike anyone as flawless/ludicrous?

The only other person that has that number of magics also has severe mood swings and personality issues associated with using each one. I'd say its over powered but considering the magic I just designed would be a bit like the kettle calling the pot black.

I fell through the resaulting hole in the top of the now-destroyed dome and landed easily,

Also the dome was being held together with the power of Nidhogg's bone and flesh manipulation magic. I don't think it would go down unless Nidhogg is dead from overuse of magic.

Not having looked at Ferrin's profile I can tell that his stuff is less superpowers and more conventional magic. More freestyle spells/manipulation of energy. And the power level thing really has more to do with the mage's internal supply of power and how much he uses in one go.

As I believe it said in the post a very large amount of Ferrin's power was used to make that fireball.

I twigged to it almost as soon as I saw him. Been trying to find a spot to bring it up since.

Also if it helps, think of Lux as a twenty year younger and slightly more hot blooded version of Michael.

Powerful magic- yeah, I'll get behind that.

Illusion and invisibility go hand and hand. He (I) got creative, how can you blame that?

Magic detection- ehh, more like sensitivity, in a real fight, thats giving him less then a split second warning. In Nero's case, Ferrin was focused on him, and so he felt it, and Nero held it, this giving Ferrin time to sense it.

Telepathy- I have explained that his is not very powerful, he can't break into your mind, or whatever, but he can communicate, glean thoughts, and emotions.

Mine aside, what about instantaneous magic that can horribly cripple and weaken to the point of defeat, and that decreases magical and physical power.

<Snipped quote by Crimson Raven>

Ferrin is 'Hesitant', though, and Nero's curses activate instantly. Doesn't matter if you can make stars fall from the sky if it only takes a split second to give you a cocktail of diseases, reduce your body mass so much that you collapse instantly, manifest your magic into a solid object and then steal it, or turn you into a magic-deficient child.

Nero doesn't do direct damage at all. His curses alter and debilitate. In any straight-up fight, he'd lose quickly if not instantly. Nero doesn't fight straight-up fights. He seldom engages in any kind of fight. In fact, in the course of this RP so far he's used a curse in anger exactly twice: once to make Prince vomit and once to turn Gabriel into glass, and both were really asking for it.

Nero chooses to be annoying with his magic rather than use it to try and be some cliche anime badass. Magic fighting and badassery isn't what he's about. I don't want to just have a fighty badass character. If he were forced to use his magic in self-defense, there are very, very few people who could beat him, but he doesn't. Funnily enough, the guy who's both a dark mage and a mischievous genie is one of the more responsible wizards in the Fairy Tail universe.

Stones and glass houses.

Edit: I want to point out (kindly) that there are many powerful characters here, in any normal RP almost every one of our characters would be OP, but we have a balance here, each with their own strengths, and weaknesses for example, if Nero were to catch Ferrin by surprise with his curses, magic detection or no, Ferrin could lose. Don't start blowing the OP whistle, just because a character does something amazing or clever.

The invisibility was more illusion magic, not it's own magic.

Fun fun fun, lol

But yeah, Ferrin took time to gather the energy, refine it, and enhance it. Its not something he could pull out of his hat, at the drop of said hat. On top of that, it was a sucker punch. The thing didn't see him coming and he had time to prepare.

The number of hits Ferrin could throw like that, given time to prepare would number in the single digits.

The invisibility was more illusion magic, not it's own magic.

Not to mention, it was of sight only. He could be bumped into, sprayed with something, smelled, heard or any number of other ways of detection, now he can acount for a few of those, but that would reqire focus and time--useless in a stand up fight.

Magic detection is an ability that pretty much everyone in the show has been depicted having at some point or another. I'm pretty sure its a basic sixth sense in a world where 10% of the population can use magic.

Both Karn and Prince can detect magic in some form.

Prince eats magic, so he just naturally can sniff it out for hunting purposes. Especially very strong ones, or fire. (Like Master Jack)

And Karn also can track down scents. Unsure if magic would count as it could be just regular body Oder like most animals.

But yeah, I think most wizards can sense magic. Usually just not when they try and conceal it to avoid Magic Detection. Least from what I remember. Been awhile now

If you make a post anytime soon I'll be waiting on that before posting again. I believe your character never got knocked of the platform yet am I right? And the others kind of assumed it since everyone says only 4 people are left on the platform.

@Silver Fox hmm good one. I think how more clouds gather the more chance it is to rain. Someone look that up. Dont know how Thor would get on the idea to do it though even if she could.

Hey now I know Pyrrha is still there. XD

The only chars I have that can't detect magic are Grant, Melina, and Mithera. Grant and Melina because I figure 'not everyone would have it' and Mithera because she both doesn't really know what the 'feeling' of magic is and bleed over from Melina.

I would assume wizards are capable to sense the magic around. Just like how some characters can sense power levels in Dragon Ball Z. But I could imagine that there are a few wizards that are more sensitivity to the magic around them.
