Blake Preston
" Video killed the radio star/In my mind and in my car, we can't rewind we've gone to far "
The song choice is obvious for someone who he's only ever seen through the computer. She's fiery, full of passion for her chosen subject, if not necessarily concerned with what she says - at least she's willing to say something. After all, how else would video kill the radio star, if not with pomp, passion, and a willing audience.
Daniel Belson
" I'm never gonna dance again/Guilty feet have got no rhythm/Though it's easy to pretend/I know your not a fool "
Not necessarily familiar with this particular demon, he's got no real quarrel (he's got no quarrel with anyone outside of his mission). Of course, he's seen him on the off-chance in the past and, well, Daniel's changed a lot and not at all. This song choice hits a softer note, tuned to the mournful, soulful sound of a saxophone to enhance the groaning, moaning of regrets of George Michaels. Eyes no longer set on the person of before, but someone of the exact same stance, same smile, same eyes. Time can never mend. Ignorance is kind. No comfort in the truth. Pain is all you find.
Ah, he's never felt that, but from the way Daniel looks at his current flame gives him a good enough idea of how this song feels. Any time he walks by, Michael hums the melody and if giddy enough, changes the song on the jukebox and plays the air-sax with as much passion as a fake-drunk man can muster.
Alistair Queen
" Rising up, back on the street/Did my time, took my chances/Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet/Just a man and his will to survive "
Not just anyone gets that success in any form without having waded through the mud of misfortune. Trials and tribulations, barreling through them with well timed kung-fu moves to the beat of the song define the lyrics perfectly. That's what
Eye of the Tiger's about and that's exactly how Michael sees Alistair, however accurate that really is.
Mariska Costas
" It's nine o'clock on a Saturday/The regular crowd shuffles in/There's an old man sitting next to me/Makin' love to his tonic and gin "
She's a performer and people want things from her, want of her, need certain melodies to entertain their dull bar experiences. And it's just a matter of getting out into what the world has to offer. She has the whole package, it's just a matter of the right person seeing that.
Anytime he gets an order for any older Ella records, he makes sure to keep them stocked away for her. She'll come by and he'll quietly sing a tune to give her a little hint at what he's acquired. Though, usually, he likes to start off with Summertime, that old Porgy and Bess - his voice isn't quite operatic, but it goes smoothly enough that he sounds halfway decent singing it.
Nikita Yankovsky
" She told me her name was Billie Jean, as she caused a scene/Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one "
Like a lot of people, he's only ever seen her and not really had the pleasure of actually meeting her. Billie Jean, though, that seems to describe her quite well. An A+ in his book. She comes in with all her swagger, and men and women and in between alike seem to lose function of the bottom half of their faces. She's a fire cracker and, while he hasn't truly introduced himself, she seems quite the fun individual if not... distant, though he's not sure how well he's pegged that part of her. He could very well be wrong.
Mordred Hame
" Sweet dreams are made of this/Who am I to disagree?/I travel the world/And the seven seas/Everybody's looking for something "
The lyrics may be hit or miss — Michael doesn't really
know Mordred, just of him — but the beat, the sound of the song, the way Annie Lennox's voice drones a kind of mellow, lazy tone that adds another layer to the song, well that's what he gets from Mordred. And... who knows, it might be a little off, but Michael's not perfect nor can he read minds.
John Taylor
" In touch with the ground/I'm on the hunt I'm after you/Smell like I sound, I'm lost in a crowd/And I'm hungry like the wolf "
Well, this one's as obvious as it gets.
Ha.
Michael's hilarious.
Eve Lumière
" Her hair is Harlow gold/Her lips sweet surprise/Her hands are never cold/She's got Bette Davis eyes"
Kinda like Nikki but with a different gate to her walk. She seems more open and, well, more of a distant thing for people to ogle at. Obviously, that's intentional. He hopes that's intentional. It's not fun walking around having everyone and their mother looking at you like you're another piece of candy. There's obviously another layer to her, which is exactly why he chose the song. That girl's got ulterior motives and he's not about to find out what those are - especially, since he's kinda into men.
Catharine Reid
" It's what I got, because I took a chance/I don't wanna rule the world, just wanna run my life/Ooh/So make your life a little easier/When you get the chance just take "
Well, Michael's never had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Cara, but... heh, she's really got that prim and proper kind of look going for her and though she's not really experienced the side of her people dislike, he's very well seen it. But, he doesn't really see that as a flaw, really - control provides a blanket of security. Whatever helps ease her mind. Bossy or not.
Opallum
" I always feel like/somebody's watchin me,/tell me it isn't just a dream "
Rockwell's got that one right.
Andrew Mordekai
"We didn't start the fire/It was always burning"
Isn't he hilarious?
Suriel White
" The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation/I stopped an old man along the way/Hoping to find some old forgotten words or ancient melodies "
Most of the time, Michael likes to kind of shy away form other angels. They've got a preconceived notion of him. They look at him and already judge him for something he really isn't and, god, Michael hates pedestals. So, all in all, he's never really tried to approach Suriel but he probably slipped up a few times and they've probably at least caught sight of him. He doesn't very much change his earthly appearance and, well, it's really easy to tell if a person is angel if you're an angel yourself.
Regardless, he knows of them and their mission, at least - he's an archangel, that's something he should know, even if... well half of the time he doesn't, this time isn't one of those times. And he's seen her plenty to know she's got a craving for knowledge and, well, maybe the song is kind of hinting at a lost opportunity.
He turned to me as if to say, "Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you"Miles Catrose
" You and I in a little toy shop/Buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got/Set them free at the break of dawn "
Doesn't know him, but Michael likes Seelie fae, they usually have the most fun (even at the expense of another person, but uh... you know - loud shrugging) and Miles just seems the type to want to let loose 99 Red Balloons and sing the German version of the song. But, uh, there's always something sinister hiding underneath and it might be his assumption, but fae like that less than moral part of themselves a little too much, Seelie or Unseelie.
Yukiko Abe
" Shot through the heart and you're to blame/Darlin' you give love a bad name "
Only ran into her once whilst she kinda had a 'situation'. Kinda hard to miss a kitsune when they're too worried about their survival to hide their appearance - much less when they're unconscious. It's also not hard for Michael to tell that girl way back when was kinda the girl he sees now. Of course, he doesn't know her and this entire song is based more on Kitsunes in general and less about Yukiko. It's bound to change!
Mona
" Don't you forget about me/As you walk on by/Will you call my name?/As you walk on by/Will you call my name?/When you walk away "
The ghost girl?
Yeah. He doesn't like being forgotten either. It's hard when no one can hear you. He understands that the most. When all you are is what you are to people.
As I walk on by, I'll call your name. Or, at least, what she calls herself now.
Faron Romane
" Confusion is nothing new/Flashback, warm nights/Almost left behind/Suitcases of memories,/Time after "
It's probably just a Cyndi Lauper thing. He looks like a Cyndi Lauper fan. There's really nothing deeper about the song than that. Maybe if Michael introduced himself?
Nicolas Black
" Oh when I look back now/That summer seemed to last forever/And if I had the choice/Ya - I'd always wanna be there/Those were the best days of my life "
Maybe it's an assumption.
Maybe it is. Who knows? Michael doesn't.
But, hey, at least he knows he'd love to go back to before he shed on a daily basis.
Maggie Spencer-Adyemi
" Now I must say more than ever, come on Eileen/Toora loora toora loo rye ay/And we can sing just like our fathers "
This one's a pop culture reference that's pretty recent. Michael's never met Maggie, but he's seen her on occasion. She's always in the back, and most of the time he sees her it's purely out of accident. Well, Perks of a Wallflower, huh?
Megumi
" You with the sad eyes/Don't be discouraged/Oh I realize/Its hard to take courage/In a world full of people "
Japanese yokai culture always eludes him; he's not spent much time in Japan. If she were a Chinese ghost, that'd be a lot easier to decipher, but he does know she's at least some form of spirit. When a little girl doesn't age beyond 8, well, that's kind of a big tell. Of course, she always looks like the world's gonna come crashing down someday and - well, True Colors is something Michael likes to sing whenever he has the pleasure of being around her. She should know she can do absolutely anything she wants, even if she'll never grow up. Michael's always had a soft spot for little kids. He doesn't like them feeling sad or like they don't belong.
Stefani Roche
" Uptown girl/She's been living in her uptown world/I bet she's never had a backstreet guy/I bet her momma never told her why "
Well, she's a kid, she's allowed to be stuck in her own world, especially when it's been changed so drastically. Yeah, it's not hard to miss those fangs, but then again, Michael's had years of experience weeding out certain supernatural entities and one that's been turned recently, well that's the easiest because she doesn't have the experience of hiding for years, upon years on end.
Katharine Haynes
" Just a small town girl/Livin' in a lonely world/She took the midnight train goin' anywhere "
She's given him coffee on occasion and, well, she just seems out of place, like she's on a train out to wherever. Who knows. He hasn't really spoken to her much.
Felix Underwood
" The winner takes it all/The loser standing small/Beside the victory/That's her destiny "
She just.... she just seems like she'd be an Abba fan. What more, she's a college student and so the world is her oyster. But, who knows whether she'll end up the winner or Abba quietly crooning her loss.
Elise Callaghan
" Some boys kiss me/Some boys hug me/I think they're ok/If they don't give me proper credit/I just walk away "
She doesn't talk. But, eh, it seems like an appropriate song given her situation.
Claire O'Malley
" An' I don't give a damn 'bout my reputation/Never said I wanted to improve my station/An' I'm only doin' good when I'm havin' fun/An' I don't have to please no one "
Michael's seen her like twice and that's the Joan Jett song that always comes to mind. Maybe it's wrong, but, well, Michael's never been lead wrong by 80s pop and rock.
Barachiel Alexander Eamon
" All that glitters is gold/And she's buying a stairway to heaven/When she gets there she knows "
Another angel! And another angel to avoid. Stairway to Heaven is a great reminder for him to steer clear. These old songs are like that Pavlov experiment. He trains his mind enough humming a particular tune when a person walks into his line of sight and boom, you've got yourself a little alarm. He usually has about half the length of the song to figure out what he's singing and why.
Ethan Cooper
" Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore/I've forgotten what I started fighting for/And if I have to crawl upon the floor/Come crashing through your door/Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore "
Any time Michael gets even just a smidgen close to Ethan, Daniel's head seems to just swivel his way like the guy's a cat and he just popped open a can of cat food. Except, it's the kind he doesn't like and he bristles behind his counter top and just glares daggers. However, from his time spent in the bar the two seem to hang around, it's quite simple to see just exactly how Ethan looks at Daniel. Well, maybe it's not that easy because Daniel doesn't seem to differentiate the way Ethan looks at him to the way Ethan looks at anyone else.
Alfie Liau
" Memory/Turn your face to the moonlight/Let your memory lead you/Open up, enter in/If you find there/The meaning of what happiness is/Then a new life will begin "
Cats.
Yeah, that's not something easy to hide, even behind that ginormous neck.
Astrid Kitchener
" Annie, are you OK?/will you tell us that you're OK/there's a sign in the window/that he struck you a crescendo Annie "
Instinct just kind of makes him want to curl his wings around her to keep the breeze from simply wooshing her into away like dandelion seeds. He sings Smooth Criminal under his breath when he sees her and sometimes, accidentally calls her Annie because of it. Maybe that's why he offered her a home and a
very very very small portion of the rent to help pay.
They've kind of grown on each other since and he loves putting her displays of art everywhere, especially in his little antique shop. He's had... a number of customers complain about the clay dildos in the display window and a few commending this 'Astrid Kitchener' on her ability to mold them realistically. Haha, he doesn't really wanna know how she knows the exact anatomy of a fully erect penis.
Michael Harel
" Oh mother dear we're not the fortunate ones/And girls they want to have fun/Oh girls just want to have fun "
Oh, oh, girls just wanna have fuuuuun.
Aila Atleo
" You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life/See that girl, watch that scene, digging the Dancing Queen "
There's a weight on that girl's shoulders, it's quite hard not to notice that much. But, Michael's got a small display of cassettes and cds of the many records he has for people to kinda test the waters before they commit to buying one (if they have a functioning record player, that is). Often times, he'll see her quietly jiving to the beat of a song with headphones cradling her head like a helmet. It never fails to make him smile.
Elliot Liam Woodsworth
" My blood runs cold/My memory has just been sold/My angel is the centerfold/Angel is the centerfold "
