Since its birth, Franco-Iberia has been governed by a President as head of state, serving terms of seven years. The actual business of national administration is handled by the Chamber of Deputies, whose seats are allotted to international departments based on population size. Franco-Iberia is one the world’s most democratic nations, having instituted universal suffrage within weeks of its most recent expansions. Although there are many political parties operating in this hothouse, politics have traditionally been dominated by the so-called Parti Gaulois, a nationalist (albeit strongly pro-UHSR) organisation that have dominated both the presidency and the Chamber of Deputies for decades. Through their influence, Franco-Iberia has been officially allied to the UHSR since its emergence into the post-apocalyptic world.

PRE-CATACLYSM TECHNOLOGY
Despite not being the brunt of the nuclear holocaust, Franco-Iberia has used its recovery as a testbed for many technologies and practices that have proved advantageous during these turbulent times of human development. "The War Against the Sahara" helped stop the desertification of neighboring Sub-Saharan territories, "New City Algiers" became the standard for high-efficiency urban living with high quality of life, and the "Great Heavenly Dive" demonstrated that effective naval craft could be mass-produced with post-war refuse.

HISTORY
Europe was spared the most direct effects of the nuclear apocalypse, but was scarcely prepared for the scale of the human crisis that followed. Mass migrations in Asia spilled over into Europe, and the old European Union struggled with how best to respond to the refugee crisis. Eastern nations wanted to address the refugee situation first; Western and Mediterranean nations wanted quick actions to guard against rising sea levels. Eventually the European Parliament found itself unable to control the actions of the member states or unify the confederation around a common course of action, and the "European dream" fell apart. While the old EU was no more, the individual nations still saw merit in maintaining close alliances, especially where there were shared priorities and shared crises. Spain and southern France, whose northernmost provinces sought to side with Britain, were two of the first countries to form a political union, and Franco-Iberia was born a short 18 months after the formal dissolution of the EU. Both countries' ruling coalitions shared a common vision of widespread social reform in the wake of the war, innovative urban engineering projects whose designs could be used in new urban planning, and ecological engineering to restore the biosphere. This "techno-green" ideology would spread through Europe later, but the Franco-Iberian model is the oldest and arguably the most successful.

Since then, Franco-Iberia has extended across the Mediterranean ("The Romans are back" is a common joke) and down into North Africa. The Mediterranean Sea has turned from a threat to the greatest natural resource at Franco-Iberia's disposal, and the unification with North Africa brought Franco-Iberia a dynamic population and access to mineral resources. But perhaps the most striking aspect of Franco-Iberia was its focus on culture. Not only did the Union seek to preserve its past great works of art, but funded initiatives to encourage new generations of artists and authors to not only explore new art forms, but explicitly to continue the Renaissance and Enlightenment traditions. The Directorate-General for Education and Culture was aggressive in promoting and exporting European cultural works – especially through the media – to the rest of the world. For Franco-Iberians, their shared cultural history and the cultural infusion from North Africa has become a source of unifying pride. With such initiatives and stability, it is unsurprising that others sought to join Franco-Iberia in the face of a confusing and threatening world. Trésors de l'esprit is the byword; a citizen's riches should be carried in her mind and shared, not hidden away in a bank.

With its progressive attitudes, high standard of living, and thriving culture, Franco-Iberia has been a beacon for immigration. Highly-educated immigrants have flocked into its borders, not only to work in cultural fields, but on the massive infrastructure projects, such as Seventh Republic Paris and the Andalusian Solar Field Energy Project. The twin capitals of Lyon and Madrid gleam with new buildings. The restored Rome is a pilgrimage hub and world museum. Algiers' new port bustles day and night with a new class of low-energy cargo ships. Tunis is a shimmering resort city to the world, whose nightclubs and cafes thrum with the sound of a new generation of musicians. With such advantages, Franco-Iberians have admonished to conduct themselves in the best traditions of civilization and morality no matter the circumstances. After all, the guardians of Western Civilization could hardly do less.

MILITARY
Franco-Iberian military organisation retains many of the features that had sustained its member states prior to the nuclear holocaust, but the crippling aftermath of the Third World War has given rise to extensive changes in equipment and tactics. The core of the Franco-Iberian army is still its elite regiments of European infantry, although their composition and role have changed greatly since their extensive (and brutal) reorganization during the the country's formation. These soldiers are trained as riflemen and grenadiers, utilizing the large caches of modern weaponry reserved for this sort of situation. Regiments are totally self-contained organisations, and even include their own medical and logistic services. Alongside these elites, the bulk of the Franco-Iberian armies are made up of Douleur regiments – conscript light infantry given basic training and equipment, and which form the mass manpower of the President's armies. Lastly, Franco-Iberian armoured regiments are crewed by a special class of soldiers known as Utile. Originally irregular, almost exclusively immigrant, light infantry units who also serve as guards and watchmen, the Utile regiments have evolved to become custodians of the President’s war machines, and are busily building a whole new military tradition based on the resurgence of cavalry.

Alongside the regular Franco-Iberian forces, there are many irregular troops from various quarters, such as desert nomads, who fight more or less as guerrilla forces. North African commanders allow such troops a high degree of autonomy, understanding that they operate best when left to fight as they know best.

The Franco-Iberian Navy is a single organisation that also encompasses the Aviation Corps. Franco-Iberian warships are strongly built and well armed, designed to operate almost as mobile fortresses in confined waters where the risk of surface and air attack is considerable and expertly fashioned from useable refuse. The Aviation Squadrons, a comparatively recent addition to Franco-Iberian military strength, as yet mostly employ redesigned versions of farming equipment, but are said to be rapidly re-equipping with new craft originated by the government’s own naval and aerial architects. There are also persistent rumours than the country may be attempting to acquire technology from its UHSR allies.

Franco-Iberia encompasses much of France besides Normandy, Greater Maghreb (Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Western Sahara), Portugal, Italy, Spain.






People's Saharan Protectorate (NPC)


Although largely untouched by the consequences of the Great Cataclysm, the African continent suffered from the migration of those fleeing their homes. As the seas rose, more refugees retreated from North Africa and coastal African nations. The humanitarian disaster shattered the fragile economies of many of the African nations, and destabilized regimes across the region. A generation-long cycle of coups and short-lived dictatorships, as well as an epidemic of border wars, tore Africa apart. While much of North Africa would eventually join the Franco-Iberian European Union, alleviating some of the pressure, the sub-Saharan nations struggled to return to order.

Into that breach stepped the leaders, manifesting their infatuation by the centuries-old idealism of Pan-Africanism through the establishment West African Cooperative and aided by the Franco-Iberian-sponsored COMEWA (the Common Market for Europe and Western Africa). Drawing on 20th century charters, members of the old African Union sought to provide political and military stability by invoking heretofore ignored supranational powers. Led by some of the original COMEWA founding states, People's Saharan Protectorate was formed, whose close supervision and military influence from Franco-Iberia was both highly regarded by Europeans and Africans alike and rendered the somewhat autonomous region 'satellite state' status. Several of the more progressive remnants of neighboring African territories quickly joined; then more stable republics along the Gulf of Guinea followed. Others states, however, were governed by dictators or torn by civil wars, and refused.

The largest members of the new People's Saharan Protectorate merged their military forces into a unified command and stepped in to end the unrest and political disruption, replacing the old despots with new regimes that promptly joined the union. Even as that task continued, the military moved against local bandits, pirates, warlords, and others that threatened all citizens of the envisioned united Africa. New military traditions arose, and a new sense of pride was instilled into the pursuit of a military career. A number of grateful member states of the Saharan Protectorate elected or appointed military officers as their leaders. Meanwhile, COMEWA – propelled by its ties to the once independent and newly combined African economies – moved to bring economic stability and prosperity to the continent. Instituting a unified currency was the first step; demolishing the tariff and taxation schemes of the various member states as they were added was another.

COMEWA involvement in the new Africa eventually turned to tapping its prodigious natural and agricultural resources, while attempting to maintain its ecological diversity and heritage through extensive wildlife parks and natural wonders. Funded projects included dams, new energy sources such as wind-farms, and coastal and Congolese reclamation efforts. The African Common Market also invested heavily in education for the post-Cataclysm generations and in humanitarian projects, notably in the realms of health care and human rights. New industries were pursued, and the Protectorate has since become one of the major players in international trade. But problems remain, although the People’s Saharan Protectorate continues to implement policies to address these. Notable are the remnants of nepotism and corruption that plague some of the member nations, and the occasional flare-ups of tribal and/or religious conflict.

Culture and Religion:
Unequivocally the successor state to the Cascadian Empire, modern Cascadia is a nation where ancestral tradition and modern innovation seem to be in constant conflict. A prime example of this is the strange dissonance between the Cascadian value of democracy and the highly stratified society that upholds it. Organizing individuals into four groups modern Cascadia has remodeled and reinstituted the very earliest of Vanverian customs, the system of citizenry. Within this system there are four distinct tiers, the highest of these being that of the Citizen. It is Citizen's alone that are granted both the right to vote, and the right to full legal protection as human beings. Composed of males born to other Citizens, those of lower status who have elevated themselves through military service, and women who have elevated themselves through military service, it is Citizens that make up the majority of the population.

One rung lower stand the Non-Citizens, individuals that while unable to vote still enjoy full legal protection. Primarily made up of Cascadian born women this social class also comprises foreigners, immigrants, and freed slaves.

Which resultantly puts the second lowest class as that of the Slave. Enjoying neither the right to vote nor any legal protection as anything but property slaves are usually only found in service of the wealthy. Seen as human but unworthy slaves are either born to their position or are forced into it as a means of legal punishment. While they can be freed, most slave lineages have been in service for generations and will likely continue to be for many more to come.

The lowest class of individual as decreed by the system of citizenry are all those cursed enough to be born abhuman, or in Cascadian parlance, subhuman. These individuals enjoy no vote, no rights, and lack even the basic title of human. Historically this class was formed to refer to the barbarous Grogar, but as more subhumans emerged they were summarily added to it. Often exterminated or used for grueling menial labour, subhumans are universally treated with the greatest contempt and disregard.

Outside of the class system Cascadia functions as a free market state with minimal oversight and enormous inequality wherein the wealthy are almost always members of the nobility. What does exist in the way of government intervention is usually aimed at workplace safety, and as a result it is said one may work themselves to death but so long as they don't cause an accident doing so theirs will be an unremarkable passing.

Pre-Cataclyism Technology:
Stumbled upon by the Cascadian military in the nations early days the vast Rocky Mountain Warning System, while inoperable in all but the fewest sections, has proved an invaluable asset. Providing a technological base for the study of advanced radar the RMWS has permitted Cascadia to equip their aircraft and military with early warning systems far exceeding those of most nations.

History:
Like much of the world the west coast of North America was all but annihilated in the Great Cataclysm, struggling for centuries afterwards to establish even the most meager sense of order. Enveloped by the Age of Darkness the few tribes that rose to prominence in the region were invariably hounded by Grogar war bands and weakened by infighting until their disintegration. Even as the first true kingdoms of the east rose to prominence and the Age of Restoration began it seemed the land of the setting sun was damned to an eternity of struggle. It was not until five hundred years after Armageddon that the west began to see the light of civilization once more.

Emerging from the shadow four great city-states rose to prominence: Vanver, Setle, Sanfra, and Losan. Varying widely in ideology and culture these city states would carve out their own respective territories before eventually, inevitably, coming into conflict. The most heated of these wars for dominance would be between the perilously close states of Vanver and Setle, whose simple proximity fated them to become bitter rivals. Precious little territory would change hands even as the autocratic Vanverians and democratic Setleites bled each other brutally with each conflict, but they continued in their futile wars nonetheless. When the stalemate did break it would not be by virtue of one sides superior ideals, nor would it be on account of their grand strategy. In the end a simple quirk of fate changed history as a flood decimated Setle’s crops and left the city unable to resist the Vanverian armies that descending upon it less than a year later.

With the great enemy subjugated and vast swaths of fertile land under her command Vanver would grow immensely as it launched wide reaching campaigns against the fractious tribes of the region. Booming in population and claiming ever more territory to settle the city state became something greater, holding all the Pacific Northwest under its thumb. Not content with his already vast lands some six hundred years ago the ruler of Vanver declared his domain an Empire, and all the west coast his right. Within fifty years Sanfra would burn and be forced to kneel with Losan peacefully capitulating as it stood isolated and weakened by its own wars against the Grogar.

This vast nation would come to be known as Cascadia, a name taken from ancient documents and used to legitimize a realm which had never before existed. For two hundred years the Cascadian Empire would rule before a quirk of fate not unlike that which had created it brought it to ruin. In the American plains the Grogar bands had not been idle and in revenge for the Empires massacre of their kin a great army of the beasts launched an invasion just as Cascadia fell into a succession crises. It took ten years for the empire to collapse, but when it did there was not a city that went unpillaged.

In the ashes a number of kingdoms grew across the west, all speaking a single language and sharing a faith as legacy of Vanver’s ancient influence. What is known as modern Cascadia was one of these, and for the next few centuries it did little but war with its neighbours over long forgotten claims in a vain attempt to rebuild its dominion. So destructive and unpopular were these repeated conflicts that before long the kingdom found itself in the grips of a rebellion that would usher in a constitution and forever limit the authority of the monarch.

In the last sixty years however Cascadia has gone back to its old ways with the expansion of the northern territories cementing the previous kings popularity and the recent annexation of Hawaii setting the tone for a new age of colonial expansion. Even more so the recent election of a Royalist party has empowered the Monarchy once more, and as of three years ago the King of Cascadia is also the head of her military. On the Homefront the influx of human refugees from the plains has engorged the population and many imagine it is only a matter of time before California shakes under the boots of marching men eager to claim a new home for them and their families.

Grogar
The Grogar, or the Paleskins as most often refer to them, are a race of Artificial Soldiers created by the First Ones(Most likely the Old United States) many centuries ago. Clone Soldiers that once resembled their Creators. These soldiers were placed in the care of an prototype AI Construct who also was handed control of the Manufacturing Complex where which they were produced. Over the many centuries after the Cataclysm however, Both the AI and clones, along with their proceeding generations begun to slowly deteriorate. The AI growing more unstable mentally and soon saw itself as God of these creatures. The Clones soon embraced such a mindset as they deteriorated more, many of them now becoming deformed ugly beasts.

The AI took advantage of these deformities and experimented on and morphed the clones for its twisted purposes. To this day, the Grogar pillage and raid the surrounding lands deep in the American Heartlands and beyond.

Pre-Cataclyism Technology:
Somewhere in the center of the Badlands lies a massive underground facility, formerly of the ancient United States Military, the Facility served as a Black Site, a storehouse of experimental technologies, unfortunately sections of the facility and hardware are inoperable or have wore down due to age and poor conditions, mostly due to the AI prioritizing power and maintenance of sectors and equipment it deemed expendable.

However, others still function perfectly, such as the Genetics Sector, the place of birth of the Grogar Race. The Genetics sector, as implied, studied and dabbled in genetically engineering the perfect supersoldier, creating clones for durability testing and modifying, and continues to serve a similar purpose as new breeds of Grogar are grown and tested.

The Facility had also housed several Armories, with varying pieces of experimental military equipment, a majority of which have been cannibalized once many of the Grogar went rogue. Leaving the still loyal Legion with little.

General Information
The Holy Hungarian League is a large federation of currently 21 states in Central and Eastern Europe. Described as the melting pot of nations with Hungary being the wax which holds them together the League is known to be a strange mix of tolerance and traditionalism. German or Slavic, human or abhuman it doesn't matter. Hungary welcomes them all. Technically a kingdom ruled by its elected king in effect the true power is concentrated within the League Council and the Parliament. Thanks to its size and level of development the Holy Hungarian League is one of the world's leading powers.

History
Hungarian is an ancient culture from the pre-war era, fell along with the rest of the nations during the Cataclysm. They remained forgotten for thousands of years until their rediscovery by the early modern age. Their culture and writings had considerable effect on Central Europe which was presently split up into numerous small states. Using the influence of ancient Hungarian culture as the medium Central Europe united as the Holy Hungarian League in 1848. The strength of the League was truly tested in the Great War during the early 20th century. Fighting in the Franco-promoted Entente the League proved victorious and reinforced its status within Europe.

Economy/Industry/Technology
The Holy Hungarian League is one of the leading economic powers on Earth. The combination of highly developed states along with sheer workforce of the undeveloped members gave room for a yet unparalleled growth. Their policy to allow abhumans or even the barely intelligible beastmen also gave them a competitive advantage as cheap masses for low skill labor. In addition Hungary did not neglect technology and they're the leaders in electronics, robotics and material sciences. In the recent decades they extensively built nuclear plants through the League in order to feed their increasingly power hungry industry.

Culture/Demographics
The League promotes universal suffrage and fair treatment of all its citizens. Yet in effect the diverse population leads to massive inequalities. One such clash is on the inter-state level as the more developed nations practically siphon out workforce from the poorer states, making their situation even more difficult. Meanwhile the citizens of developed states feel threatened by foreigners stealing their work. The relation between humans, abhumans and beastmen are even worse. Certain abhumans are naturally better suited for certain jobs which makes regular humans feel nearly hopeless to compete. Abhumans are viewed with mixed disgust, envy and fear. On the other hand beastmen are viewed as the primary wage stealers in low skill labor, a competitive advantage no one else could keep up with. Aside from this their barely sentient intelligence makes beastmen target of extremists who view them less than human and more like a type of livestock. In response Hungarian laws made several steps to protect beastmen from abuse or mistreatment. Although recognizing their gullible and easily manipulated nature these laws also somewhat reduced their rights compared to normal humans. The friction between different races,nations, ethnicities and social ranks is a neverending issue for the Holy Hungarian League.

Military Information
The Holy Hungarian League has a considerable military under the name of Royal Hungarian Self Defense Force (Magyar Királyi Honvédség). While the Leagure has the large population of 160 million they don't opt for a huge army and rather focus on a smaller but more professional force. While conscription technically exists they don't count as part of the official military. Instead those who went through the mandatory service of a year may receive additional training and become career soldiers. As such the RHSDF only has around half million personnel. This number may seem low but in view of their diplomatic situation the army exists for power projection and minimal security purposes rather than facing an immediate threat. In contrast the high quality of the military allows such low lethalities that in general you have better chance to die in a car accident than serving the RHSDF.

Government Structure:
Jodesia is ruled over by the House of Jodan, a dynasty roughly dating back to the original warlords. The title of Keizer is passed, typically, down the bloodline, just as in monarchies, although, just as in monarchies, it has been known for other family members to ‘intervene’ in who gets the top job. The name Jodan, however, has always stuck.
The Westerijk, despite being so far away, is no less ruled by the Keizer, although it has its own puppet-ruler and figurehead, in the form of a Regent. The Regent has very little power of any kind.
Both the Keizer and the Regent are advised by a single council known as the Rijksraad, which is mostly located in Jodesia. Its function in Jodesia is to guide the Keizer, while, in the Westerijk, it instructs the Regent according to the Keizer’s wishes. The Rijksraad is formed of around thirty people in total from the ruling elite, and typically also connected to the House of Jodan. In Jodesia, these people represent specialist fields and regional interest, while in the Westerijk, where there has never been more than five members of the Rijksraad, they are typically people as close as possible to the Keizer, regardless of any specialism.
The Rijksraad always had, up until the past ten years, much more power than the Keizer, and the Keizer’s dominance is a relatively new throwback to much earlier Jodesian history.

Geography of Jodesia:

Jodesia is a very low-lying country, much of which is technically below sea-level. This has been a huge challenge to the country, although one which they have been forced to respond to admirably. Controlling the flow of water across Jodesia is possibly the most significant technological development in the nation’s history, and one of the stand-out global examples of having done so. The country, particularly in the North where there’s also the actual sea to contend with, is littered with world-leading dams and canals.
Even with these measures in place, however, it’s nevertheless a very wet country, and, particularly in West Jodesia, so wet as to be boggy and marshy and borderline uninhabitable. Settlements in the West tend to be few and far between and centred around the highest regions and arable land.
Things are somewhat less difficult the further East one travels, where marshes give way to lush forests and then to open, sweeping, arcadian valleys and hills. Here, settlements are somewhat more organic, and small villages and towns are commonplace, instead of periodic, large cities.
Given the benefits that canals offer, extensive canal networks have nevertheless been constructed as transport links to the East; there are a few railways, but the network is far from convenient, with only the most important destinations connected in this manner.

Culture of Jodesia:

The culture of Jodesia, much like its settlements, are divided into typically urban in the West and typically rural in the East, and the two share a hugely symbiotic relationship. The West Jodesian, due to their more metropolitan surroundings, is typically more highly-educated and more driven, with more reference-points than just their own little village; East Jodesia, populated almost exclusively by peasants and farmers, is much more introspective and very poorly-educated. Without the rural expanses of the East, the West would starve, and without the advancements and reasonably beneficent rule of the centralised government of the West, the East would barely have advanced beyond the notion of crop-rotation and more than likely have been invaded by somebody else.

Full modernisation has reached Jodesia very slowly indeed, and now it is trying to keep up with the rest of the world. Its leaders are envious of other nations’ well-defined cultures and artistic heritage, while it has simply focussed on functioning at all; a certain nationalism, designed to gee up the (particularly) Western Jodesian to contribute to the nation’s glory-to-be, is being rolled out with some success. To that end, foreign cultural imports are discouraged, although, at the same time, foreign cultural imports are also desperately in demand, mostly as an indicator of what Jodesians could be achieving.

While a certain amount of loyalty toward the Keizer has long been embedded into the highly hierarchical society of both West and East Jodesians, the amping up of national feeling over the past decade has only amplified the feelings toward the Keizer and the regime, to the point where any criticism of him is not only censored, but all but illegal - and, one anticipates, will become actually illegal shortly. At the same time, Jodesia has been heavily investing in its military as well as, to a lesser extent, the modernisation of the whole country, including, in particular, the expansion of electricity, telephone and radio access. Plumbing for the practically-aquatic nation has never been an issue, of course. These public investments have called for higher taxes, somewhat exaggerating the gap between the richest and poorest in society, although at least the under-employed can now earn a little more public kudos and (minimal) extra funds by enlisting in the paramilitary organisations available to them.

Geographia of the Westerijk:

The Westerijk is a small island off the coast of IRL North America, which is both temperate and actually rather lovely. The very centre of the island is dominated by a very small mountain range that could barely be considered tall hills, while the coast are lined with rather impressive, bustling cities, the largest of which genuinely qualify for metropolis status, if not in size, by culture.

These cities, which form a ring around the island, are connected by a decent but not entirely reliable rail network.

Culture of the Westerijk:

As far as Jodesia is concerned, the Westerijk is basically a cash-cow. Established as a colony just over two hundred years ago, it, almost accidentally, evolved into a natural port between one side of the Atlantic and the other. Originally, lax trading laws made the place a hugely popular destination for traders, and, basically, it has stayed that way.

Now, it is, if anything, more popular than ever, and almost 70% of the inhabitants in urban areas comprise foreign nationals, who, due to the wealth of art and technology and, well, wealth, that they bring to The Jodesian Rijkdom as a whole, have pushed actual Jodesian citizens into almost a sub-class; they now find themselves in the service industry, in the military, or simply priced out of the cities entirely.

In the Westerijk, money makes the world go round. While the Jodesians have a reputation for being standoffish to outsiders, there is a mutual understanding that foreigners are valuable, and therefore, can get what they want - although sometimes a bribe is extorted along the way. Apart from anything that actually subverts the Keizer’s authority, almost no crime or indiscretion can’t be paid away, and, subsequently, the Westerijk is also a thriving black market, tax haven, and even hideout for seriously-wanted criminals. Of course, with the right incentive, the Westerijk is more than happy to rat out any ne’er-do-well that finds peace on its shores, or simply make them disappear altogether.

In order to cement the Jodesians’ loyalty to the Keizer and to give them a sense of pride and purpose in a country that almost exclusively chases foreign capital, the militarism of Jodesia is even more intense in the Westerijk. This is actually one of the key selling-points of the Westerijk, which has a well-deserved reputation for being incredibly safe and well-run; the paramilitary has a hand in broadly everything and any civil disobedience is instantly quashed. It may be true that the military displays and parades set some people’s teeth on edge politically, it does make for great national feeling, at least for now. The byproduct of this all, of course, is that the Westerijk is essentially stranded, and the clear displays of strength should hopefully discourage any aggressors.

Origins:


The House of Jodan is a very, very old bloodline with roots in the warlords in the Age of Restoration. When all that was to be said of what became modern-day Jodesia was that it was a series of tribes doing their best to function in the marshy Western territories and not to be pillaged, many of the cities of present-day were formed, although obviously they were very rudimentary settlements back then. The House of Jodan was simply the most successful tribe, and did the best pillaging, brokering successful alliances, conquering the conquerable and laying siege to those who would not be conquered until there was nothing left of them. These myths are remembered fondly by Jodesians, who, as a result, consider their heritage to be one of survival (if not militarism) and pragmatism.
By about 700 by the Restoration Calendar, the roots of Jodesia were formed, then a much smaller country. Between 700-1200, the Jodesian territory expanded piecemeal to the South and to the East, much of which was in fact voluntary. Jodesia was not too terrible a nation to belong to, and much smaller states and principalities stood to gain from the association much more than they stood to lose by fighting it.
There was a stagnation in this amassing of land between 1200-1350, until Jodesia sought to invade both Lamiria and subsequently Lamonia, slowly encroaching their territories until they were simply swallowed up in 1389. Since then, those tensions have actually broadly dissipated, since the primarily rural denizens of Eastern Jodesia didn't overwhelmingly notice the difference; they were always importing agricultural produce to Jodesia anyway, except now the were being paid slightly more directly, rather than having their former nation's administrations cream off profits for themselves.

In 1399, Jodesia discovered the political value of what was then known as Yamont, an island off the coast of the Americas. Seeking treasures for what he hoped the be an Empire, Keizer Galgorius ordered its colonisation, and was shortly followed by a similar move from the NAU. The two nations, between them, successfully butchered the entire population of the native peoples and began constructing and consolidating their respective territories by the 1430's, with brief but minimal flashes of conflict erupting between the two invading parties. To Jodesia's good fortune, a market crash in the NAU withdrew investment into the establishment of its territory, and the whole of what became the Westerijk fell into Jodesia's hands.

Military:


General:

The army of the Jodesian Rijkdom is divided into two sections: The Rijksguard and the Krijgsguard. The former is a paramilitary organisation, and the second is the army proper. The resources available to the military in Jodesia are incredibly limited according to a treaty signed in the aftermath of The Great War, although, among one of many loopholes, it does not apply to the Westerijk. Much of the Jodesian Rijkdom's equipment is purchased from the NAU.

The Rijksguard:

The Rijksguard is a paramilitary organisation founded under Keizerin Marmora, but has utterly flourished under Keizer Maximor. With the standing army officially castrated under the treaty signed after the Great War, with numbers highly limited, Jodesia uses a legal loophole to bolster its numbers with this paramilitary organisation. Equipped with only basic weaponry but well-disciplined, the Rijksguard protects public buildings and maintains law and order (to the disbanding of the police force) in both Jodesia and the Westerijk. Technically, there is no reason for the paramilitary to exist in the Westerijk, since the treaty doesn't cover that jurisdiction, although it is a useful tool for keying up nationalist spirit in the citizens there, and it prevents the country from too-overtly being swamped with military personnel.



The Krijgsguard:


The standing army proper is limited to incredibly small figures in Jodesia so that the country can conceivably defend itself but not pose any credible threat to any other nation. Therefore, per capita, it is fairly well-equipped. If scaled-up, it would potentially be an invasion-force to be reckoned with.

Jodesia's fleet, both naval and airborne, is limited in size, but modern.

Middle Kingdom of the Great Han


Government Type:
Constitutional Monarchy with Academic Aristocracy - The original founders of the Great Han were classicists from Hong Kong and Guangzhou. They established an aristocracy based around the ideals of the era that they studied, both out of devotion to their own ideals, and the creation of an educated elite to increase their own value and power within the society they were creating. As well, to revive and invoke the image of the Golden Age of the Han Dynasty that the Classicists were trying to emulate, as well as delegitimize and kill the specter of Communism left over from the of the People's Republic, they created a ceremonial Emperor. His purpose is to look nice, and give legitimacy to the actions of the Aristocrats. Chinese Supremacy is a driving force in the Ideas of the Council's laws and plans, as is the sinicization of their lands.

This is the Assembly of the Chosen Officials picked out of the Academic Nobility. They are the highest ranking members of those who take the exam for Consulship. They hold all the true power in the Empire, speaking through the Emperor, and using him as a substitute for public retaliation when their decisions end up badly. They operate under strict Confucian Ideals, and just like in the old days, an education in Confucianism, as well as Classics, is required for high office. All who enter the Council add a Generational Name to their current name; the names are chosen to create a massive poem.

The Emperor - A puppet of the Council, the Emperor is officially the supreme ruler in the Great Han, however, the Royal Family is at the mercy of the Council, who hold all real power in the nation, and may depose of the Emperor, and possibly his entire family line, if he becomes a problem for them.

History:
The Great Cataclysm spelled near complete disaster for China, Much of China was hit hard in nuclear strikes, and it was only a matter of time before, with much of it's major centers lost, China began to collapse, with many states arising out of various nationalities and ethnic minorities in the area. When it seemed the situation couldn't get worse, it became apparent than the sea levels were rising at a rate that was simply unstoppable. Ending with 1/3 of China being submerged, While most of China was destroyed, surprisingly, this destruction would only lead to its rebirth.

In the classical days of China, the people said that rulers would be ousted when their rule had become illegitimate. This information was of intrest, to a group from the Island of Hong Kong. They called themselves the Society of Chinese Classics, originally founded as a pre-war archaeologist's society, they slowly took on the role of preservers of old world knowledge when they saw the apocalypse coming. When sections of China were falling apart into tribal or feudal kingdoms, the Classicist created their own kingdom, based on the knowledge that they had preserved. This kingdom, Han Zisunguo (The Kingdom of the Sons of the Han), would remain a power, attacking and conquering smaller kingdoms around them, and then raiding them for any old world knowledge that they had. Slowly, the Han were beginning to get a feeling for the world before them. They became aware of the State that controlled China before, the People's Republic, and grew a strong hatred of it, seeking to destroy it's influences. As well, the Han became more aware of their predecessors, the legendary Han Dynasty, the other Dynasties of China, the Republic, and of philosophical minds such as Confucius, Laozi, Mencius, and others. The Han continued their conquests, making short work of their enemies. As time went on, the Classicists moved from an intellectual society into an aristocracy, commanding the kingdom with old world knowledge and experience of their old battles. Eventually, after securing an alliance and marrage with the Two kingdoms of Sichuan and Evenkia, the conquests were complete. the Han then turned on Evenkia, outright annexing it, and assasinated the king of Sichuan, taking his lands through the inheritance of them as a Han king rose to power. With new lands in place, the Han began to look outward, first attacking and overwhelming the Island of Taiwan, and branching into the State of Ryukyu, and down into Vietnam. With their latest conquest in Malaysia, the Great Han has achieve a powerful status, and hopes to increase this power through conquest.

Race(s):
Han Chinese - Han Chinese are the namesake people of the Great Han, the ones who the Founders claimed were chosen to go out and civilize the ruined world. The Han make up approximately 90% of the Population of the Great Han. They are centered around the area of the Chinese Sea, the Major Islands and Peninsulas of the sea. As well, they are the major colonizing force in the outlying Islands in the Malay Peninsula and Indonesia.

Koreans - Koreans are native to the area of the Korean Peninsula and into Manchuria. They're a major minority, and were one of the first people to be conquered by the Great Han's attacks. The Koreans were scattered across the country in a series of Deportations, in an attempt to sinify them. As such, they can be found pretty much everywhere, including colonies. The still do, however, make up the Majority in Korea.

Vietnamese - Vietnamese refers to all people who are native to the area of Former Vietnam. Like the Koreans, the Vietnamese were also scattered across the Great Han in a series of Mass Deportations. However, unlike the Koreans, the displacement of the Vietnamese was more thorough, and they are now a minority even in their own homelands. The largest Vietnamese community is currently in Taiwan, where many were sent to during the 2nd Deporation.

Mongols - The native people of the Mongolian Rim, which comprises a good portion of the North of the Great Han. The Mongols were also subject to forced migration and settlement.

Burmese and Bengalis - Burmese and Bengalis are the people of the westernmost portion of the Great Han. They are two very destinct people, having been forced into a single province. Hostilities between the two have grown exponentially. Some suggest that the action taken towards the Bengalis and Burmese was intentionally done to lower their numbers, and then displace them through Deportation later in time.

Malays - Malays are the native people in The Malay Peninsula and Indonesia. The Han policy towards them has been displacement and seizure of their lands. As such, Malays are often driven out of their homes, forced to integrate into Chinese society, or are taken as servants by colonizers.

Filipinos - Filipinos are a rather recently encountered people. Their nations have largely been annexed or vassalized by Chinese, but many remain out of their reach. Like Malays, Filipinos are usually displaced or forced to integrate.

Mutants and Yāo Guài - Mutants describes all people who have undergone changes to their physique following generational exposure to things such as radiation, as well as descendants of failed experiments. Mutants are distinct from Yao Guai in that, Mutants are descented of, and still recognizable as Humans, while Yao Guai are more animal than they are human, even if they originally come from Human Stock. They are usually either very intelligent animals who arose out of mutation, or degenerated humans. Yao Guai almost never show human level intelligence, but they are noticeably more capable of higher thought then most animals. Mutants exist in society, but have been subject to abuses and mass genocide attempts throughout their existance. Yao Guai are not considered people, and are exterminated on sight.

Culture and Religion:
China was hit hard by the collapse of Society. Many areas degenerated back far into the past, while less developed areas could fall back to pre-industrial level technology or even tribal organization. Major cities were hit, and the rise of sea levels washed away several important places in China. Despite this, the Chinese still maintain links to their pre-Cataclysmic lifestyle in many ways. Remnants of old literature, even more modern books and stories. However, the society being founded, and artificially selected to adhere to their ideas of an idealized 2nd Century nation, have sought to revive ideas of Classical Chinese society, such as Confucianism, Aristocracy, and the traditional social hierarchy, with some minor tweaks to work in a more modern society. As such, the Council has largely enacted laws to encourage traditional Chinese social norms, as dictated by their academic sources on the old world, and to purge alien ideals from the Pre-Cataclysmic West, and of Conquered people.

There is no official religion dictated of the state. Traditional Chinese Religion predominates, as do evolutions of Islam and Christianty among some Han sub-ethnic divisions. Christianity is strong among Koreans. In line with the demonization of the policies of the Council has officially outlawed atheism, which is punishable by prison time.

Pre-Cataclyism Technology: Among the things that the Chinese had preserved and rediscovered was the use of engines and motors, as well as Marine Technology. As a result of knowing this from an early time, the Chinese have developed very efficient, and powerful engines, capable of use in vehicles, farming equipment, war machines, and most importantly, in boats. Engines and motors from the Great Han are widely known as the best of the best, with great efficiency, power, use of easy to obtain fuels, and easy assembly. As well, their boats have been crafted from preserved modern designs, into perfect vessels for traversing the ocean. Chinese Vehicles have sped up their conquests, and their sea-craft are instrumental in their task of colonizing the Islands in the Oceans.

Military:
Land Military - The Imperial Army is designed for conquests. It is a large army, outfited with the best rifles that the nation can create, and strong vehicles such as tanks, and artillery to destroy any defenses their enemies can throw at them. Many members of the Military actually come from Conquered people, who are conscripted and promised a good retirement if they can survive. As well, the Army is tasked with Anti-Aircraft duties, and has gotten good at it, due to the non-existance of the Imperial Airforce.

Imperial Navy - The Crown Jewel of the Great Han, the invincible Imperial Navy. The Armada is arguably the most advanced display of Naval Technology in the world. Built for swift movement and hard hits, the Imperial Navy is crucial to the power of the Han's plans of colonization and Marine Dominance.

One Party Republic
The One party allowed to rule over Brazil is the Nationalist Party, every four years an election begins to see which member of the Nationalist party will become the next President. Each president can serve a maximum of four terms.
The only way for another party to take control is for them to drop down to less than 30% of the population.
Below the rank of President lies the Governors, ruler of each individual state or colonial region in the NRB. These governors are allowed to serve two 4 year terms and all of them are elected from the Nationalist Party.
The strongest state (has the most say in the Nationalist Party government) is the Cape, with New Lisbon (New Zealand and Tasmania) being the second most powerful)

Culture:
The mainland area of the NRB is very similar to Brazil pre-Cataclysm. They are a people who are similar to those that live in Portugal, but they do have differences. The major holiday of the NRB is Reformation day, which is meant to celebrate the day in which the Brazilian Chalcedonian Church split off from the main Catholic church.

Religion:
Majority of Brazilians are adherents of the Brazilian Chalcedonian Church, which claims to be the true succesor of the Church after the Great Schisms of 1054 and 1378-1417. The Brazilian Chalcedonian Church mixes beliefs from Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox Beliefs. The Brazilian Chalcedonian Church is headed by the Tri-archy, which is made up of the Patriarch of Cape, The Bishop of New Lisbon, and the Bishop of Haiti. Atheism is the next largest "religion", followed by traditional Catholicism.

History:
Before the Era of Peace:
A major part of Brazilian History during and slightly before the Cataclysm is the spreading of the Crocodil Plague, something created by the Socialist Union of Argentina-Chile that was meant to help them attack and conquer Brazil and reclaim the Falklands. The plague itself is a mixture of Aids, the Bubonic Plague, Smallpox, along with the unwanted effect of changing the human Chromosome structure, which caused a large amount of the children of those who survived the plague to become more Reptilian in appearance, which gave them the name Réptil Diablo. The Crocodil Plague grew and effected all of South America, Parts of Central America, and Parts of Africa.

Society itself in Brazil collapsed, people similar to plague doctors went door to door collecting the dead and unwanted Children and either abandoned them somewhere in the Amazon or threw in giant pits. Within 10 years South America collapsed into Tribal warfare as the rest of Human civilization fell.

For hundreds of years Brazil stood disunited with differing tribes vying for control. Eventually one man named Pedro Eduarez The Great was able to unite the three major tribes of the Cape, and from there he began he reconquest of the lost areas of Brazil. His conquests would bring death and destruction to those who refused to surrender to him. Women and Children where burned for crimes against his rule, and men who worked as slaves to help build up his military.

By the time Pedro Eduarez Died, much of the middle area of South America was united, but he would kill 500,000 people with his cruelty and conquests. His son Pedro II The Insane would inherit the fledgling Empire and would try to expand on what his father did, but unlike his father, Pedro II was a bit childish and irrational on the field of combat. Pedro II most notable feature was sending multiple people to death for looking at him the wrong way, which earned him his nickname. Eventually his son Cruz the Conquerer succeeded his father, and he would begin the official continuation of conquests.

By this point the minority issue in the Brazilian Empire had grown a large problem for the Royal Family as with the more land they conquered, the more the minorities grew. In response to this Cruz had put a large amount of the Blacks, Amazonians, and Mutants (Radiation and Réptil Diablo) into camps where they would be slaughtered or worked to near death. While doing this Cruz was busy attempting a manifest destiny and he would try and connect Brazil of Atlantic to Pacific. By the end of his reign what he called "Pure Brazilian" had became the largest population without any doubt and any other group was reduced to 6% or less.

His son Pedro III the Great would begin the cultural and technological Renaissance and Rebirth in the Empire. He would send out mass excavation parties to the ruins of major cities all across the Empire and he would start to use this technology to fuel his advancements. He would begin a conquest of the submerged areas in the middle of the continent with his newly forged Navy and soon this would belong to him. By the end of his reign he had set up Colonies on the Falklands and the Islands right off the coast of Africa.

Cruz II the Cruel would take the thrown after his father and would bring with him some of the insanity of the original Cruz. He would continue expansion into Africa, and any of the tribes that would attempt to fight back would be slaughtered. Each village leader killed and placed on a pike for all to see. Eventually he would stop his expansion into Africa after he felt bored with it. After this, he set his eyes on Haiti and the other Caribbean Islands, where he would employ the same tactics he did to the Natives in Africa on the populace. By his death, Brazil's expansion had led them to becoming a large colonial nation.

Cruz III would take the throne and he would expand like his father did, but he wouldn't conquer like he did. Cruz III instead focused on the conquest on some of the islands in the Pacific area instead of the Atlantic. Other than this, his reign was irrelevant compared to that of his son, Cruz IV The Nightmare.

Cruz IV's first act as Emperor was to begin the industrial killings of the Black populace in Africa and the Caribbean Islands. Those who where spared during the reign of Cruz II were destroyed and put on as an example to show what happened to those he thought of as inferior. Another notable event during his reign was the creation of the first colonies in what would become New Lisbon and the creation of the terrorist group Freedom Movement.

Era of Peace:
Pedro IV's rule would be the last in the Empire's history as the Freedom Movement would rise up and dethrone the family for crimes against humanity. The Freedom Movement would become what was known as the Nationalist Party and would set up the government that Brazil has now. Majority of the presidents of the newly formed NBR would focus on colonization in the pacific, which would eventually lead to all of New Zealand, Tasmania, and some of the smaller islands North East of New Zealand joining the Republic.

Since the Freedom Revolution the NBR has been mostly peaceful, only getting into conflict with Réptil Diablos out in the Amazon or some other colonialist tribes that are left attempting to revolt against NBR rule.

Military:
Land Military - Mostly based off defense, the NBR land military is split between the Colonial Troops, which are used to spread their influence and help defend colonies, and the Higher ranked, more trained, Espada troops, who are mostly just in the mainland.

Navy - The navy of the NBR is its greatest asset for expansion and colonization. The Ports of Wellington (Capital of New Lisbon), Africa, and Cape are used just as much for military as it is for economic assets and trade.

USS Victoria

Government Type:
Stratocracy - Strictly speaking the USS Victoria still operates in much the same fashion it did before the Cataclysm with the primary difference being that the captain has full authority to promote or demote his crew as he sees fit and that his XO will automatically assume his rank and position should something happen to him.

Race:
Prewar Humans - For the most part they are “standard” humans and have had limited genetic engineering done to them. For the most part this genetic engineering was intended to reduce birth defects, increase resist to diseases, and extend the person’s youth (but not their overall lifespan). Some individuals, those hailing from wealthy families, had more invasive genetic engineering done and have been altered to be more physically attractive and a slightly longer lifespan.

Culture and Religion:
The majority of the Victoria’s crew are either one of the numerous christian denominations or atheist. The culture of the ship is what one would expect from pre-Cataclysm America: freedom oriented, individual based, and hardworking.
Pre-Cataclysm Technology: By definition the USS Victoria and everything in it is a piece of Pre-Cataclysm technology. Of important note, besides the military equipment located on the ship, is the existence of an electronic library containing much of the Old World’s technological knowledge.
History: The Cataclysm caught most of the world’s population by surprise, but there were some who had come to expect, or at the very least be wise enough to prepare, for the worst. Project Pandora was a USN project designed to ensure the survival of the human race in the event of geothermal nuclear warfare. Project Pandora entailed the construction of massive submarines that would seek shelter under the arctic ice caps during the war and ensuing years of nuclear winter. Once the surface was safe, the submarines would then aid in the reconstruction of the United States and her allies and, if necessary, continue the fight against her enemies. The project produces three Enduring Freedom-class amphibious assault submarines in the years leading up to the Cataclysm.

Of the three submarines only the USS Victoria was fully supplied and prepared to conduct its mission. Once the Cataclysm began the USS Victoria immediately sought refuge under the arctic ice cap as per her orders. The crew was put into a cryogenic sleep and were supposed to be woken 10 years later in order to ascertain the surface’s condition. Unfortunately something went wrong with the system, resulting in the crew remaining asleep until recently.
Military: The fighting force on board the USS Victoria is divided into three groups: the crew of the USS Victoria who are in charge of operating and maintaining the ship, the marines under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Meier, and the air wing under the command of Commander Azor. The marines and air wing are both subordinate to the USS Victoria’s commanding officer, Captain Taylor.
