Cascadia would have sold export versions of equipment to the UPC under earlier administrations.

Also, and maybe it's just me, but I'm noticing an odd disparity between some nations history. Franco Iberia for example almost seems to pick up as if the EU and other nations were mostly intact with their tech (despite it having been over a millennium since the cataclysm) while the Holy Hungarians and myself for example presume civilization was set back totally and nearly all polities were destroyed along with their tech. I mean, i was under the impression we all got sent back to the iron age or earlier and we've had to work our way back up.

Idk, but maybe we should discuss it for the sake of consistency @Sigma @Willy Vereb @Nerevarine @Brink_ ?

@Isotope A good point, and it is true. A discussion is in order then to maintain such consistency, an agreed upon account of the events that went on with Europe during the Age of Darkness and afterwards.

I like the idea that we still have ideas and, in some cases, the knowledge, but we have to learn how to make it all again. Using my country as an example, the Oceons are just now beginning to manufacture microchips again, and it is taking time for them to figure it all out from scratch. So while the rediscovery of ideas is accelerated, it still does have to mature again.

@Monkeypants@Isotope Got a question, do the NAU and Casadia often sell military equipment?

I was gonna ask the same thing; mostly because actually West Lamonia would probably try to buy the equipment from other countries, with no great history of building non-specialised modern stuff themselves, and also because it would mean I could basically copy what other people are using, since I don't overwhelmingly know what I'm doing. :P

I mean, i was under the impression we all got sent back to the iron age or earlier and we've had to work our way back up.

That's what I've been working to. I don't have a super-set chronology in mind, but mine is basically an accelerated version of iron age -> dieselpunk era. it's probably hugely inaccurate, but basically what I'm aiming for

In other news: more stuff is in my character sheet, including the Tank of Dubious Utility and Potential OoC Contention, and a good old college try at describing the other military stuff. Would anybody mind taking a glance at it and seeing whether what I have seems reasonable and point out any glaring omissions I've made. I've not even tried to describe land equipment, naval or air forces, because I straight-up don't know what I'm doing there.

In Subsequent Newb-News: what constitutes godmoding in an NRP? Like, obviously I couldn't say that another nation as a nation decided to declare war - but is each player in control of 100% of the citizens that belong to their nations (regardless of geographic location)? I'm gonna go see if there's an NRP guide in the articles section, to clarify stuff, but if anybody could give me an idea of what godmoding in this would look like, that might be really useful.

(thanks for dealing with my uncertainties)

Indeed, and if you want I can help you edit the OP to clarify stuff once we work things out more precisely.

@Inkdrop Personally, I'd rather have the catastrophe be a complete wipe far in the past and now instead of declaring magic we're studying old tech and learning it's secrets. Like, ICs would be primitive and rare at this point but we would be able to understand the theory behind them due to studying past examples.

@Isotope

I was under the impression, judging from what Sigma had established this as in his first few OOC posts, that this was a take on the world as if the science and culture of the 1950s, defined by postwar extravagance and just overall optimism for the future that had lied ahead, advanced to the point of what they had envisioned the next fifty years or so to be rather than having technology and the like progress at the rate and points of divergence it actually had, meaning that I'd seen all technology as being some sort of retrofuturism tied in with the inherent the sci-fi that accompanies that movement, if that makes any sense. As for the lore specifically, I'd assumed that after some cataclysmic nuclear war the world's population and ecological integrity alike degenerated to a point of, as you'd mentioned, iron age levels that eventually progressed to the aforementioned Fallout series-esque themes which itself owed much its incarnation to our civilizations managing to maintain remnants of what they'd considered the epitome of human development - our pre-cataclysmic technology that serves as a defining factor in differentiating our varying nations and their cultural, technological, et cetera identities...

@Brink_Hm, I had taken it that we were AT 1950's era tech with bits and pieces of retro futurism thrown in due to the odd way things developed post war. On the other point, it seems we agree on the basic concept of where civilization devolved but differ in our interpretation of how it progressed from there. See, I had thought a massive undefined event set us back so totally every polity disintegrated into warring tribes and most written information was lost. From there culture evolved by word of mouth even as people forgot the old world, leading to old concepts being bastardized and pre-disaster history becoming mythology. What I'd gleaned from the OP was that it had taken just over a millennium for us to work our way up to the RP and in that time we had a huge history where technology was largely forgotten or seen as magic until it's 'rediscovery' as science began to make sense of what remained allowing us to found the nations we have now.

I think we can find a consensus there though, I'm not too set in my ideas.

@Sigma No problem.

@Isotope@Brink_ I think we can find an excellent compromise in perhaps mixing of the two ideas.

@Monkeypants@Isotope Got a question, do the NAU and Casadia often sell military equipment? I ask because I was thinking the UPC remnants making use of a mix of NAU, local and Cascadian gear. Which in turn are looted by hostile rebels and grogar.

Well, the NAU would likely sell older weapons to pro-nau forces but wouldn't do anything high end just due to those reasons you list above.

This would be the same as sigma, either watered down or older weaponry would be freely sold. Just like the IRL America, it's still some of the highest quality stuff the NAU has but not -the- highest.

if that makes sense.

On second thought the world history you suggest does make more sense with the overall feel I imagine the RP to be centered around, not to mention just how much it aligns with other nations' own histories. thanks for clarifying.

@Sigma I see an armored vehicle that would be good for the Pro Union UPC remnants, on my sheet (and a new addition), an older medium tank called the Davis. A1 and a2 models would be sold pretty cheap. I can throw up an aircraft too if you want.

Well we took care of history, but there was still a minor dispute over tech levels right?

Were we at the 50's with outlier retro-future technologies or beyond the fifties with all retro-future technologies?

Very nice, and an aircraft would be good. The Government Forces and allied would most likely make use of NAU Helios if they are even sold, with the Government forces possessing only a few squadrons-worth of jets.

@Isotope I'd say the former sounds about right with what I had in mind. 50's-esqe tech with a dash of retro and more high futuristic sci-fi sprinkled in.
