@Shorticus, that's certainly a sad story. Don't veterans have free psychological care after their service? They should!

Yeah, but it's not always good. I'm the son of a veteran myself, and there's tons of problems within the VA.

In fact, check out this news report. The VA has had similar scandals in the past.

Veterans routinely have their benefits undermined by various kinds of bullshit. It can take years of effort to get yourself considered the appropriate %disabled, for one. For two, mental health professionals aren't always well intentioned. Fuck, there was a report concerning a mental health professional in the military just a few months back that was telling someone who was having post-traumatic symptoms to man up and I think he even suggested the guy commit suicide.

So, even if you're considered disabled or to have a mental health issue due to your service, you're not always going to have proper care.

I think I'd better just add... Not all psychological healthcare is like this. Hell, I've been working on a psychology degree because there's a real chance of me being able to help people with one. But there's definitely some bad shit happening where veterans are concerned. So much for being honored and respected for your service, right?

I can't be the only one who finds it funny when almost nobody can bitch in these threads without someone else having to quote them only for argument's sake.

EDIT:

Not you, Shorticus! :')

I'm pretty cynical when it comes to the military's handling of mental health. A lot of my friends suffer from depression and it doesn't appear that the chain of command does a whole lot. They say they do but they don't feel like it. There's a lingering suspicion that reporting it just fucks your career over so it's better to just hide it and avoid getting dicked over for promotion.

I personally have had some issues in the past (and no, not everything is PTSD, dammit) and I really just got over them myself. I didn't really want to talk to the official programs.

Don't even get me started on the VA.

I played Doom 4's beta and it was really underwhelming.

That fills the bitching quota for this week for me. Maybe next week I'll have a actual worry on my mind.

The only thing I can think of to bitch about is, HOW FUCKING HARD IS IT FOR PEOPLE TO NOT SUCK AT DRIVING!?!?! For fuck's sake, you're basically driving a missile that weighs anywhere between 500 and 4000 kilograms, why wouldn't you be more invested in not being a jackass and keeping your missile from hitting another, or doing something that causes one missile to hit another?

And then there are those that are too cautious. Either that, or too stupid to realize that if there's a line of cars behind you, several of whom are opting to pass you, you're probably driving too slow, and arguably being just as much a danger as an over-aggressive driver.

Okay, that notwithstanding, there are certain people who are unarguably complete asshats when they drive. Like, if anyone would see them drive, it would be almost universally accepted as fact. In the entire time I've been driving, I can only recall a few instances where I actually encountered one of these types.

Oh, and then there's those people who you get around when they slow you down, you get back up to your base speed, and then they pass you and get in front of you again, only to slow back down again. I swear to god, those fuckers need to take a good long look inside themselves and wonder, "Am I just that dumb?" Like, whenever I pass someone, I make a concerted effort to consistently widen the gap behind me, every damn time, because I don't want to be that guy. It even annoys me if I try to pass someone, and they start accelerating in the other lane. The only reason I can think of to do that is if you realized you're going slower than you'd like, but then why aren't you paying better attention to your speed to fucking begin with?

Certain portions of a fandom are cancerous. The content(TV show, game, etc) which the fandom is surrounded by itself might be good in my opinion, but there will always be those people who just ruin it with unnecessary politics, sickening artwork, and sadly-written fanfiction.

Can I stop this? No. It's just a personal qualm I have. If they're having fun doing it, then alright, but it's just not something I can get behind and enjoy whatsoever. Maybe for making fun of it, but otherwise . . . Nah.

Sturgeon's Law can apply to people, too. It can also compound on itself like a sick Sturgeonception. 90% of the people in the fandom aren't that great, then there's 90% of those that are just plain bad, and then you get this 30% of the entire fandom that's just heinously anus, which are the unironic My Immortal writers, The Chris-Chans, the Doxxers, DDOSers and Death-Threateners, and the people who write Jazz Flute + Bagpipe + Daxophone covers of the original theme songs that they wrote for webcomics. (Not even anectdotal proof that the last one exists, or that such a thing wouldn't be even a little awesome, but it's the thought that counts.)

Ignoring the post in question, I would say yes and dispute anyone who says it is “dead”. There are a lot of commentators, contributors, writers, and reporters who create quality articles, critiques, commentaries, and discussions out there— and that’s including the people who do investigate some of the more “iffy” aspects of what comes with the term ‘Gaming Journalism’. People thought Pop/Rock Journalism was a joke in the 60s and 70s, but as things got older the forms evolved and the perspective changed.

@Gowi we don't need gaming journalism anymore, the internet has seen to that. I trust my friends and people working at the gaming store I buy my games at. What's funny is that they thought they would destroy Gamers, but instead they have sped up their death. gaming journalism is a dying species, IGN will probably survive, but a lot of others won't.

Critics have never been "unbiased" in any medium; music, film, literature, etc. It's an asinine thing to want out of a critic.
