Okay, let me break it down in better detail. And this is all still able to be changed, but here it is as of now:
Humans travel the cosmos looking to settle new planets when their population grows too much. They live in space ship colonies where they conserve resources by traveling in semiconcious states close to cryogenic sleep.
The planet that this story takes place was already populated by many different species. The dominant species was a very humanoid race of tribesmen that can harmonize directly with the crystal like substance that grows naturally and abundantly on the continent they call home.
All the other continents were inhabited by wild creatures and races coincidentally similar to our folk lore, such as ogres and dragons or elves and fairies.
Long before humans arrived, the other indigenous races would make voyages to the "land of gods". Here the "gods" would bestow them with magical crystals as parting gifts before they would return home. Harnessing these crystals, dormant magical powers could be unlocked.
Humans also took note of this and began making their own voyages, trying to communicate with the almost human looking people, only to find that they are mute and only communicate to one another telepathically. Though they didn't seem to have any problem sharing their abundant crystals which proved to be incredible power sources. Early on it was deemed unwise to try and start conflict with these people as they have unimaginable physical power and show signs of being much more intelligent than they look. Also, why start conflict with people so willing to share.
Early on, humans tried to live peacefully with the indigenous races while still marching on with technical advancements. During this time, they taught the indigenous races the human language (which we will write as English for the sake of this RP).
Unfortunately, the indigenous magical races were not fond of their technological ways for too long and war broke out. Some humans even sided with the indigenous races. Eventually the main group of humans won the war with their advanced weaponry and exiled the traitors and indigenous races.
The victors claimed their land and eventually turned it into the technological mecha that it is today.
That left the defeated humans and indigenous races with a choice. Could they continue to be allies, or should they go their separate ways? Because of this, they split into two groups.
One group, mostly made of humans, decided to go settle the continent that was mostly barren of intelligent life. There they started to build their technological civilization again, but with a deeper respect for the natural environment and a tolerance for magic and nature. The result was the continent that today looks like a slightly more utopian 2016 with slight magical twist.
The second faction of defeated humans and indigenous races agreed on one point, "Technology inevitability brings destruction and must be kept to a minimum." They decide to go to a third continent where indigenous races already reined supreme. Today, this continent is divided up many different ways and resembles the old legends of magic and monsters.
Our story takes place long after the Great war. Everything seems well enough, but it seems as though the crystal people are becoming less generous with their handouts recently, a sign of things to come maybe?
