Magic appears to be much more LOTR-style with the rare sage hidden away in his wilderness cabin surround by anceint tombs and not colleges of magic everywhere and magitech.
That seems to be the case for a lot of RP's around here. No offence of course, but I'm starting to get the impression that half the people on this site have the memory of goldfish, and the other half sign up for more RP's than they can manage, leading to a massive list of abandoned RP's.

Nation Intro For many years, the people of the sky have been landlocked, forever grounded and cursed to wander the land, unable to reach their full potential as their ancestors before them. But now, as the revolution of steam sweeps across the land, they can once more take back the skies and thrive in their natural element. Truly this will be the age of flight. Geography Map Claim [+] The Mainland: The mainland of the Republic is a rough, forested land of hills and mountains. The majority of the land is covered in hills and mountains, with the northern coast itself being a long mountain range. The weather here in the north is wet and cold, sporting many pine based rain forests, covered in fern and moss. As one heads south, both the terrain and the weather grow less extreme and stormy. However, much of the mainland's coast line is steep hills to simply sheer cliffs, thus it is not until you reach the very southern stretch of coast do you find any real sort of harbor for sea going vessels. There is a cluster of mountains just north of the center of the nation, were the Capital was built. This place serves as a major airship dock and harbor, featuring some of the largest dry docks in the whole country.
The Southern Isles: The five southern islands were the first to be colonized by Avalian forces. The mainly act as a trading hub and rest stop for ships both of air and sea as they may their way further south or north to trade with those nations. The largest of these islands, the island of Kelvo, is entirely a military outpost. From here, the airborne navy of Avalia protects the waters from piracy, aiding any nation's trade ships against any raiding threat.
The Scattered Isles of the North: Now these northern islands have only been recently colonized in the last few decades. They remain more as resupply depots and small naval communities. Their terrain is much like that of the northern mainland, thus they really only act to serve any long range airship expedition across the sea.

The native Avalians of the Greater Republic of Avalia are known as Valkeryia. Due to their races history, they have mostly remained in their homeland, unable to spread for hundred of years and now too afraid to migrate to other nations thanks to potential racism. In terms of their physiology, they are fairly similar to humans, but with very notable differences. First and foremost is their bird like features. All Valkeryia seem to posses feathered "wings" that sprout an inch above the ears. They also have short, feathered tails that match the color of their "head wings". Typically, they have icy blue eyes and white hair, but occasionally are seen with orange or grey eyes. Valkyerians have much denser muscles than humans, making them have a much higher average endurance, and stronger bones. Valkyerians also seem to naturally preform better at high, thin air altitudes, where normally humans would have difficulty breathing.
Culture: Avalians present themselves as proud, optimistic people, with much faith in a better future. This is due to their relative prosperity in recent years and fast advancements in their technologies. However, they may also come off as arrogant, especially towards those of faith. With religious worship practically illegal due to social norms, they can be very harsh towards any god worshiping individual.
Type of Government: The Greater Republic of Avalia is an indirect representative democracy, lead by the Chancellor of Avalia. The Chancellor is elected by the Avalian Senate every 5 years. The Chancellor is the head of both the government and military, and generally makes most of the major decisions of the nation. However, the Chancellor does not have the power to propose laws, only to approve of them. For that, the Chancellor must gain support of 5 or more Senate members if the Chancellor wants to push any sort of legislation through. As for the Senate, each member represents a region of the nation and holds office for 7 years and may be reelected.

Economy: Internally, The Republic has a Mixed Economy with various areas being either Market or Traditional economies. The Government does regulate various areas of the market, but ultimately it is a free market. The nation tries to create a "Balanced Trade" which goes by the motto "Do what you do best, buy the rest". Thus Avalian exports usually focus around the aviation industry, ranging from selling commercial airships, airship components, and most importantly, refined Aetherite . While the substance Aetherite is widespread in the world, Avalia's refining techniques have made it much cheaper to buy than attempting to produce your own, usually giving nations more options to focus on other aspects of their economy while receiving cheap Aetherite to float their airships.
History: The republic of the region proudly points to its origins in the native people of Avalia. During the times before the industrial revolutions, the land was filled with theocratic monarchies. Various god worshiping, human nations that all enslaved the Valkyerians, or "sky people". These Valkyerians, according to the nations of the time, claimed that they were god's gift to the humans, the universal "servants" of the land. Various interpretations of this existed, ranging from enslavement, to outright purging of "lesser peoples". Communities were periodically raided or destroyed completely. Dark times for the Valkyerians continued for centuries until enough was enough.
The Valkyerians of various lands began to flee to a rumored promise land in the center of a high mountain range. An isolated bit of rough territory that no nation set foot in. This event became known as "The Great Defiance" when many Valkyerians fled their homelands to this place of freedom. At first, this was a minor, isolated settlement. However their numbers swelled and soon they began to rival their neighbors.
When the first hints of Industrial Revolution came to be, the Valkyerian nation of "Avalia" experienced an amazing boom in technology and industry. They soon developed an incredibly advance military in comparison to their backwards thinking neighbors.
Eventually the nation of Avalia invaded and annexed its oppressive theocratic neighbors in a series of wars now known as the Liberian Wars. At the end of this conquest, the new Republic was stronger than ever, now that all the lands of Avalia had been united. The second revolution of science and industry soon swept through, leading to the Avalians truly achieving their dreams. With the discovery of Aetherite, the Avalians began to extensively study the crucial mineral. They soon figured out to refine it, concentrate it, so that one could get more use out of each pound of the matieral. The Airship revolution took the Republic by storm, with hundreds of different designs flooding hte skies above the nation. Now, with the skies slowly being mastered, the nation can move forward, further into the future.

Would someone be so kind as to remind me of what level of technology this game takes place in? I've been collecting a series of sketches of WW1 and WW2 uniforms, and I'm wondering if they'd fit.
I think as the OOC states, its a mixture of Victorian age culture and tech with a little bit of World War I thrown into the mix. So no full on turbo props, modern like tanks, ect.

Sounds like a rather weird retro sci-fi idea, about on par with HG Wells. There are two problems with this, though. First being this flowerly and needlessly complicated explanation makes it kinda ridiculously advanced. Second, what the hell this thing is even good for? You didn't specify anything which makes it hard to judge.

The peoples of Vokietija remain optimistic that they will continue to be able to repulse outside invaders and spread the revolution throughout the world.

Representatives from all tribes met upon a river in the southeast of the land to discuss the course of action they would take. Due to the countless different species that were represented, it was believed that no consensus could be reached.
That was, until Sigihard reached the summit. There is no consensus concerning his own personal history, most of what is known comes from legends and lullabys. He hailed from the north of Vokietija, from one of the mountain tribes. It is said that he was born atop the tallest mountain in the north, and that when barbarians came to conquer his tribe's village all it took was his infant face to turn back the hordes. Wherever his homeland, and however exagerrated the tales, it is known for a fact that it was his appearance at the summit that changed the history of Vokietija.
He put forth a simple plan: crown him as king, and he would fight back the empire. For once, legend and written facts align. It took a mere day of debate for all the tribes of the land to swear an oath of fealty to him. To this day, none know how. Many even say it could have never happened, that the records were fabricated. However, the ancient and forgotten magic he used upon the empires of the continent suggest a different theory as to how he convinced so many to serve him.
It was under his early rule that Vokietija truly united. Together, the people pushed back the empires. They learned to fight as their enemy did, with bronze shield and sword. Even so, it is said that the magic wielded by Sigihard turned back many an army on its own. Even the records of the other empires (available to Vokietijan scholars, that is) claim that entire legions were turned back by a single man.

Art and culture flourished, and a national identity rose out of the ashes of war. Alas, the empire would not last. The empire was passed on to his son, but the lords which he had previously held in his hand grew more and more ambitious. With their ambition grew their autonomy, and the early centralization of Vokietija was set back into the age of feudal lords just like the rest of the world.
That dark age continued for centuries, until the winds of change once again blew upon Vokietija's sails. War tore across the continent, all because of a few dozen ideas a lone man had nailed onto a door in an entirely different country. The nobles of Vokietija fought each other in open warfare, with countless other nations intervening in an attempt to grab their own slice of the pie. Once again, however, the land was drawn together in their darkest hour. Emperor Nichols took power by assassinating the former Emperor-his own father-and quickly called for peace.
A treaty was signed, and the religious civil war in the empire came to an end. Once again, in the same mysterious circumstances. However, the other empires and kingdoms did not cease their own campaigns. This, the Emperor argued, was proof that all they wanted to do was weaken and conquer Vokietija. He himself took up leadership of the army, and with new tactics and technology brought the war to the other nations. Anyone whom he considered "Against the interests of Vokietija" was slaughtered to protect the nation. He forced his enemies to surrender one after the other, until his army finally marched back to the capital in victory. Vokietija was independent still.

Emperor Nichols and the Emperors after him kept Vokietija standing tall as a world power, and the great monarchs were quick to adopt the new industrial technologies sweeping through the world. Slowly, the revolts became more and more organized. A man was appointed to lead them, Ernst Liebknecht. Like the great leaders of the Vokietijan people before him, he could turn men to his side with nothing more than his eloquence. He was learned as well, he knew the ins and outs of warfare, politics, and economics. And his education had led him to invent an entirely new economic system, completely separate from that which had been thought of as the only option since the dawn of agriculture. Equalism. The idea that all men and women are inherently equal, and that said equality must be translated into social and economic equality through giving direct control of the industries to the workers with violent revolution.

Their culture is dominant, and they hold the overwhelming majority of positions in the government and military.
They are thought to have a direct evolutionary connection with humans, though it is not clear where the two diverge. In fact, there is as of yet no consensus regarding which one came first. All that is known is that they were very much intertwined with human culture up until an ill-defined point at which there was some form of schism between the two. Following said schism, they migrated to the lands of Vokietija during the ice age. At the time, the land was extremely hostile and there was little arable soil. As a result, they formed hunter-gatherer groups to hunt the mighty beasts that once populated the land. This lifestyle led to their current appearance, the reasons for which are obvious when one takes into account the skeletons of mythical size found in Vokietija.
In contrast to the elves, Dwarves are a short, strong, and hardy people. Aside from one or two circus attractions, Dwarves simply never grow above the upper limit of five feet of height. To make up for this, they naturally build muscle mass faster and lose it slower. Furthermore, their bone structure is incredibly stronger compared to that of a human. It takes a serious hit to crack a dwarf's bones, and as such warfare between Dwarven tribes has long focused on killing through blood loss and piercing weaponry. This led to them adopting the ultimate piercing weapon-the musket-before quite a few other races.
As a people, Dwarves are (in)famous for their attitude. They are a rowdy and brash people, with a penchant for alcohol. Their beers are now considered the finest in the world, and immigration during the revolution has brought vodka into their markets (Referred to as Konsum in modern times). In fact, beer continues to be a common drink for all citizens despite the easier access to pure water compared to earlier times. Beer is completely ubiquitous at lunch due to tradition, and it is rare to see a dinner without at least some kind of alcohol. Not even breakfast is sober, with vodka becoming increasing popular in the morning. Alcohol is so common in Dwarven society that a classic jokes goes "A sober man walks into a bar with two Dwarves in it. The elf leaves with a broken arm."

In fact, beer continues to be a common drink for all citizens despite the easier access to pure water compared to earlier times. Beer is completely ubiquitous at lunch due to tradition, and it is rare to see a dinner without at least some kind of alcohol. Not even breakfast is sober, with vodka becoming increasing popular in the morning. Alcohol is so common in Dwarven society that a classic jokes goes "A sober man walks into a bar with two Dwarves in it. The elf leaves with a broken arm."
Religion in Dwarven culture once played an important role, with most of them subscribing to Arvandor at one point (they didn't get the memo that it was Elven until much later, at which point tribal chiefs and warlords had already claimed to have the support of Eru Illuvatar). During the age of the Holy Vokietijan Empire, a massive wave of discontent with Arvandor swept through the nation and led to the creation of a "More Dwarven" version of the religion. The resulting war was barely halted with the unification of Vokietija, which in turn led to significantly more religious tolerance as the two sects learned to live among each other and consider being Dwarven to the more important. After the revolution, however, religion in Vokietija has fallen upon hard times due to the insistence of the government that religion is "the opiate of the masses". The only remaining churches are those in isolated villages where the people all pitch in to keep them standing, others have simply fallen into disrepair or been outright seized by the state (as is the case in many of the cities).
It is important to note that, while all races are officially equal, elves are generally hated. Aside from the long history of Dwarves butting heads with the elves, most elven participants in the revolution fought for the side of the imperial government. Most of the elven population has found itself in gulags for supporting the losing side, while those who fought for the Red Army are often looked down upon if they don't make it clear that they fought in the war.

@KeyguypersonTo be fair there's nothing explicitly elvish about Arvandor though previously Yllendthyr sure had a big influence to it.
Also muskets are usually more of a bludgeoning weapon with piercing damagecoming second. Though given dwarven constitution muskets are still more reliable killers.
