"All men...are NOT created equal."
Beginning with the birth of a luminescent baby in China, more and more "Quirks," or superpowers, began to appear among humanity. Today's society is composed of superhumans, with 80% of the world's population possessing some form of supernatural ability. The paranormal has become the normal. In the wake of chaos brought about by those who would misuse their powers for evil, a new profession arose--while the justice system struggled to adapt the laws around the presence of quirks, those with courageous hearts rose up, and leaped into action! Soon, all the world recognized them, and gave them the only suitable name...HEROES!

This RP would be an AU version of the anime/manga series Boku no Hero Academia, or My Hero Academy, where players would take the role of students in a different city's hero school--not UA, but a different setting, so as to separate from the canon entirely and merely use the world and mechanics to give familiarity. However, it's all pretty easy to understand, so if you don't know anything about the series that's perfectly fine! Basically, not just a select group of special people, but almost everyone in this setting has developed the kind of superpowers you'd normally see in western comics, with the usual anime/manga stylistic flare. The only difference in "true" supers and "normal people" is that, much like the opening quote, not all Quirks are equal. Those with the strongest Quirks fight on the world stage, as Heroes and Villains!
The RP would mostly be split between crime-fighting and slice of life, but while the setting is in a high school I don't really intend to have players sit through "classes" unless there are specific events revolving around what happens while we're in a classroom. What I do have, however, are the various Special Assignment exercises that are meant to be practical training for heroes; between this and fighting villains, there should be plenty of things going on to keep people interested.
The plan currently is to allow two characters per player, one of whom is a Student Hero and the other a Villain. Pro Heroes will probably only be played by me, or at the least used as NPCs, and Student Heroes will have a few limitations. Villains won't have quite as many, but of course, they're villains who are destined to get their faces punched in so it's not that great a trade.
Another thing I should address is that I'd prefer there be as little overlap as possible between character powers. I currently have dibs on an adrenaline fueled generic strength/durability/speed character, so unless you can really put a different, unique spin on it, that's already a factor to consider when coming up with your character's abilities. Often times in RPs like this you see a lot of the same old tired, cliche, etc powers popping up. I don't have a problem with something as simple as "Fire Manipulation" being used in the first place, but it's when you get two or three people who are all basically the same--one manipulates fire, one manipulates "thermal energy," one just makes things "combust"--it gets old quick. In addition to that, I'd also like to say that I'd prefer no "mind/emotion control" powers unless it can be justified to me very well, and the same to powers like intangibility, space/time control, and any form of omni-something/reality warping.
So, anyone interested? Questions, suggestions?
