<Snipped quote by Nerevarine>What separates early-mid medieval ages from late medieval ages can be often narrowed down to guns and metallurgy.
Actually, metallurgical developments weren't even new that big since other cultures had blast furnances prior. Guns and chemistry are a similar deal or the idea of military drills.

We have random pieces lying around which people can use as inspiration. I think it does make sense if people catch up with them.
Not saying we'd go beyond the medieval setting but for example seeing a modern gun would put the idea in people to make their medieval weapons shaped more like that. Which is strangely means in a certain aspect that leads to hundreds of years of leap in gun development (firearms took a "gun-like shape" by the 16th century). Mechanism of a modern gun can also help people inventing mechanical locks for guns earlier.
With 12th century developments things are still rather crude in quality but the above for example still aid them to create better tools.
Also it'd lead them to make plate armors and more decent quality metal products early.

Those are just my thoughts on the matter.

While that is fair, It really depends on how much PolishKing wants to diverge from the source mod (being Crusader Kings, it follows the Middle Ages up to the End of the Crusades). I'd rather not diverge too far from his vision of the RP

As pointed by Dinh, the use of automatic and semi-automatic is probably very very inefficient in a pre-industrial setting, and so I imagine firearms to be rather primitive, but I also do see them being more advanced than what we would have seen in the actual 12th century.

Nah, I wasn't thinking of copying AKs or anything close to that. I was saying that designs would inspire people to develop firearms that look more like what we recognize as guns. Basically the typical musket look would be popular earlier.
Similarly the mechanisms might help them to develop snaplock or flintlock earlier. Caplock is also plausible with various chemicals lying around.

Another technology I forgot to mention is printing which is just as important and people could get pointers to them from many sources.

I assume the cannons and other gunpowder-based weaponry on Haligonian ships is allowed?

I won't be able to post over the weekend because I'm going camping up north. To the Silver Bear dunes.

Well that's a pity.

And hey, @Nerevarine if this is still going on I got my sheet done. It's on the first page though; should I move it to the Character Tab anyway?

Turns out work rescheduled my weekend around the day I requested off.

But it's no biggy for me, I get the house all to myself for two days and there's a festival going on in town I would have much rather visited. Being on the night schedule, I don't think I would have had such a great time camping with everyone.

Now if they asked me to come down to somewhere like say New Orleans, I would have fought to go.

@TheSovereignGrave Your app looks good; I ask that you copy it into the character tab so all the apps are in a single location

Well, at least it all worked out in the end. So that's good for you.

Oh, I was planning on putting it in the Character tab anyway. I just know some people don't like non-accepted apps in the Character tab, so I waited. Better safe than sorry, you know?

It's only dead when no one posts.

That said it's probably poor form to say, "I'll post when a second person posts", because of no one posts then you don't post. And saying such things so early when no one's developed commitment is just going to kill it quicker.

I am working on my first post. Though it's not coming easily, unfortunately.

And did we ever decide upon the technology level for certain? I made my nation under the assumption that it'd kinda be like the early High Middle Ages. Sorta like the inspirational material.

The lack of Polish King really makes that sort of thing weird. But if I was running it I would allow for guns to happen at least under some limits. Namely: no automatic weapons. Most would be single-shot really, as one friend says whenever we end up planning post-apoc worlds the gold-standard of fire-arms would be something akin to rifled muskets.

A lack of industrialization might make standardization difficult, but that may be an issue with molds over anything.

I think a big problem is that in this RP Polishking explicitly stated that it was a nuclear war that screwed up the world. It's already kind of a stretch that things got kicked back as far as they did, with just so much knowledge apparently just being completely lost to time.

And even the nuclear war technically wouldn't do nearly as much long-term damage, though for the sake of a setting such as this it would need to be stretched to include the collapse of a central government. And under these circumstances the pressures that society would face would have less to do with nuclear weapons and more the matter of loosing the centralization and modern trade networks required to keep the modern world up. We'd end up loosing a lot more in infrastructure that'll cause more deaths than the bombs would have. The radiation itself would have easily waned away as the many isotopes released as waste decay (within the first few months of an explosion to a year).

I was hoping that PolishKing would be more present so that I wouldn't have to take the full brunt of running this thing but I guess I have no real choice.

That being said, I'm still uncertain as to how much he's willing to let me alter his pre-existing roleplay idea for when/if he comes back.

Wouldn't be wiser to start a new game, then?
Let's say some catastrophe of vagueness destroyed civilization as we knew it and over an untold amount of time it regressed into medieval-ish kingdoms with perhaps some rare artifacts of the more advanced old world.
