@Prince of Seraphs

I understand what you said, but i'd argue against one part here: "I would go to a VR arcade because it allows me to experience the game fully, in real time. The developers designed these games to eliminate mechanics that would be required on old style gaming consoles but with the advent of VR become redundant."

That contradicts what i read in the OP, "Working round the clock this corporation has remastered hundreds of thousands of classic games from the arcade era all the way till the early twenty first century for use in their new program." Remastering is usually better graphics, with a new feature here and there, and maybe some more content. Remastering games doesnt radically change what they are. now, if you had said reMAKING or reIMAGINING then that would be totally different. Remastering implied that they're still mostly the same game we remembered.

Regardless, it seems clear now, that a jobs-using turn-based RPG character would be very problematic. If i change them, then they wont be the character i wanted to play. If i keep them the same, then everything gets turned upside-down. So i'll just pick one of my other characters. I'll edit the CS into this post later.

@Prince of Seraphs I have updated her CS. I have given a description of what and how each move is performed. I added a personality thing which is mostly repeated in her backstory and added weaknesses.

I voted for rival which is most likely not going to win. My character only has a guitar and maybe her belt as a weapon other than herself so she is probably in more danger than most. I won't give her a gun, a bow or anything else or I break the character. Death is more likely to hit me than those with a gun or magic. Hiding is not really her thing either so she is most likely going to be targeted due to her personality of getting attention due to her past.

Within her game she has her alter ego if Candy Cane died could I use her other version? In the game, they are separate characters though really they are one person who acts differently. It is a what if type thing. I got a feeling no which would mean I would have to find someone else.

My general feeling is that death be final throughout save for isolated "Arenas".

After all, in most story based games, you don't actually "respawn" so as go back to a checkpoint which is further back in time. Going back in time regularly could get quite annoying.

Respawning is usually a part of multiplayer arena styled game. I feel such areas should be obviously delineated and couldprove interesting as a tactical choice like leading a dangerous monster into a Pac-Man maze where your superior mobility would be of benefit.

Remastering is a term that comes from the audio industry. A Master would be the original copy of a song on the highest quality medium currently available. If there was something wrong with the original master or a long period of time had passed and a better medium was now available the song would be remaster to improve the quality of the original master.

That's all that remastering means, improving the quality of something. In audio that would mean taking the same thing and making a near exact copy which sounds better but when applied to games it doesn't have to mean the same thing. Especially considering the difference between an SNES or even a 3DS and Virtual Reality environment.

Besides that fact that's not a contradiction, that's a difference of interpretation as technically speaking what I wrote could mean either one to be true. However as the person that wrote it I am telling you this is what it means. Though I suppose the point is more or less moot if you're choosing another character.

I think you're sort of missing the point. I don't need you to give me examples of series that make use of spellcasters free from the impunities of wielding magic. I am completely aware that some game systems make use of magic in that fashion. The point is that we can't make use of magic in that way unless everyone is capable of using magic without consequence. Since various games have side effects to using magic and others a toll it takes on the body of the spellcaster while still others have an MP system that in this world would be translated into diminishing returns all of those things can't be ignored simple because a handful of games don't use them.

Case and point you used the term "immolating the masses" in conjunction with the term "weak". In a game like Hyrule Warriors where you are taking on armies single handed, destroying two dozen gorons, stalchildren or bokoblins with ever blow that is perfectly normal. In an RP adapted from such source material however it is far from okay. Think of it in this sense, pick a character, someone with decent power levels and imagine how Lana would wipe the floor with them because there power levels vary so distinctly.

It's sort of like if you had a fight between Eragon and Harry Potter. Harry would be dead in seconds because of the difference between the functionality of magic in the Potterverse versus that in the Inheritance Cycle. I don't really care who anyone plays, that is a personal choice but depending on their source game there power levels must be adjusted to fit that of general group. There is no in game explanation for that it is simply GM balancing to make sure someone doesn't go on a killing spree.

I would appreciate it if you went through her combat capabilities rather than simply linking in videos as you will invariably have to make alterations to her abilities and rewriting text is much easier than editing videos. Another version of Focus Spirit will have to be implemented because I doubt very much you will be finding discarded magic pots in the Aperture Science testing chambers or in Rapture. Likewise Lana's duplication in the game was a result of Ganondorf taking control of Cia and forcing the light from her heart which manifested itself as Lana. That isn't an ability she herself actually possesses but something that was forced on her.

O: this sounds amazing. mind one more? also, thoughts on a pokemon trainer? have a party of 4-6 >.>

The more the merrier, as for Pokemon Trainer that would entirely depend on what Pokemon your character has and the kind of abilities they possess. I'm going to say no legendaries but otherwise make me up a sheet and we'll see what we can do.

We could maybe use magic according to the rules of whichever game realm we're in.

Which presents its own range of problems like what happens to a character like Terra were she to enter into a gaming reality without magic. When magic vanished from the world of Final Fantasy VI it nearly killed her. Plus that would also require that each character's particular brand of magic be adapted over and over again to fit the specific system of whatever gaming realm we happen to be in at the time. Which is further complicated by the fact that a good deal of games don't define their brand of magic very specifically. Like the Zelda series, magic is something that sort of exists in the background in certain creatures and artifacts but is never given much consideration in the actual narrative.

It's a good thought but I don't think it would function all that well. Thanks for the suggestion though.

"If there was something wrong with the original master or a long period of time had passed and a better medium was now available the song would be remaster to improve the quality of the original master."

Then we are in exact agreement. If you were to remaster something you would be improving the quality, not changing it at a baseline level.

"I think you're sort of missing the point. I don't need you to give me examples of series that make use of spellcasters free from the impunities of wielding magic."

I think YOU'RE missing the point. That was an honest application, not me slapping you with an example of magic with no cost.

"The point is that we can't make use of magic in that way unless everyone is capable of using magic without consequence."

Why not make it simple and have everyone use magic according to the laws of their verse? If a certain magic's overpowered, deny the character or have a plot twist and remove magic from them.

"Case and point you used the term "immolating the masses" in conjunction with the term "weak". In a game like Hyrule Warriors where you are taking on armies single handed, destroying two dozen gorons, stalchildren or bokoblins with ever blow that is perfectly normal."

If you take into account that the Hyrule Warriors game is non-canon, and the gorons, stalchildren and bokoblins from there are considerably weaker than the origonals, then it makes sense. Normally such things would take around 4 of Link's sword swings. The fact that they die to one mean they're weaker- Link isnt stronger in terms of raw power output. As for the stronger enemies, they're difficult for Lana to take out unless she exploits the Weakness Point gauge, which im sure exists only in her universe, so there's really nothing to worry about.

"I would appreciate it if you went through her combat capabilities rather than simply linking in videos"

Descriptions can be misinterpreted, videos cannot.

"as you will invariably have to make alterations to her abilities and rewriting text is much easier than editing videos."

Like i said before the application itself, if i change the character's abilities, they're no longer the person i want to play as. And quite simply, i'm not willing to do that.

"Likewise Lana's duplication in the game was a result of Ganondorf taking control of Cia and forcing the light from her heart which manifested itself as Lana. That isn't an ability she herself actually possesses but something that was forced on her."

Lack of reaserch. The duplication i referred to was in the second level of Ganondorf's campaign, when Ganondorf fought Lana in order to get the Triforce of Power back. Lana duplicated herself in an attempt to escape.

It is invariable and inevitable that some alterations will have to be made to any character that is presented. I myself altered some of Terra's skills rather than simply putting a list of them up in her abilities category. In some cases this can be called a result of the virus meaning the character will remember having different or more powerful abilities but will be stuck with those decided upon here. This is a fact of this RP. No character can remain exactly 100% as they were in their original game. Changes may be mild and will be mainly to do with the powers the character holds. We will be attempting to stick as close to the source material as possible but for an RP of this nature that is quite literally impossible to do completely perfectly.

If that is something you cannot accept or are unwilling to cope with then I suggest you find a different RP to take part in as this story is clearly not the one for you. If you can learn to compromise then I will address the other points your brought up in your last post.

In any case it looks as though we've got eight participants excluding myself:

Terra Branford from Final Fantasy VI played by Prince of Seraphs
The Spy from Team Fortress 2 played by @Scarifar
Mirela Djuric from Assassin's Creed Revelations played by @Assallya
Doom Marine from DOOM 2016 played by @Lmpkio
Red from Transistor played by @Kafka Komedy

As well as three potential interests:
@ClocktowerEchos@Unlucky0013@Guardian Angel Haruki

I'm going to say this is enough to make the move and I hope we survive the jump to OOC/IC.

Click the photo to find the OOC.
If everyone could post there character sheets to the Character's Tab. I haven't approved all of them yet but I'm having trouble keeping track of them in an OOC format so that would help keep them condensed.

To anyone reading this after the fact we are always open and welcoming of new players, come join us.
