RPGC 11: Heatwave!
VOTING AND DISCUSSION

Welcome back everyone!

As promised, here are the entries for RPGC#11. You all did a fabulous, fabulous job-- pat yourselves on the back.

To vote for an entry, tag our vote-bot account. "I @vote for Entry 0!" We'll also manually make a check through the thread to make sure we didn't miss any. Discussion is encouraged in this thread, so, we use the @vote tag to ensure we don't miss anything.

Votes should be cast no later than midnight on August 12th-- winners will be posted on the thirteenth as soon as one of our staff people wakes up to tally votes.

So without further ado, the entries!

This concludes the entries. Submit your vote by August Twelfth. Competitors, feel free to yell at me if I screwed up the formatting on your entry or compromised anonymity.

Alright, I'm not a professional critic but I'll give my opinion. Credits to @McHaggis because I'm stilling his layout scheme. <3

Disclaimer: This is just one humble person's opinions, and I am merely attempting to offer constructive criticism.
The Nightcrawler

The Spark

The Ash Grows Cold

The Tenth Circle

Beating the Heat

The Watched Pot

The Springs Gone By

After many hours of deliberation, I've decided to pick the story that most appealed to me (and fits the theme, in my opinion);
I humbly cast my @vote for The Watched Pot.

Urgent Update: I did change my vote, I never meant to vote for the spark, haha, for reasons.
Pro Tip: Don't cast your vote at 5 a.m. just before bed, you'll make mistakes

Well, if I voted for which ones effected me personally the most, or appealed to me the most, I'd probably have to vote for either "The Tenth Circle" or "The Springs Gone By" Respectively.

But that's not what I'm voting for.

I'm gonna go ahead and vote for which one I think played with the heat theme the best, was the best written in my opinion, and which one I enjoyed reading the most, and that one goes to The Watched Pot! My @vote goes to The Watched Pot.

All of them were awesome, but "The Tenth Circle" "The Springs Gone By" and "The Watched Pot" were my personal favorites!

@McHaggis Ah, my apologies then. I must have misread that part. There was quite a lot of content and I did it in one sitting. Edited my review accordingly.

As usual I won't be writing reviews because I'm exceptionally lazy, but I WILL say that my @vote goes to The Watched Pot. Very well written with some very good dialogue that makes me want to work on my own dialogue because it blows it right out of the water. Congrats to everyone for getting their pieces done on time, and for making them all so good!

Letter grades are provided to give a sense of relative scaling, but are not objectively measured. A poor grade can just as well be caused by poor writing as it can be by a poorly constructed plot. The letter is, essentially, my review. All that follows is my critique.

Try not to let me discourage you—I consider myself a harsh critic, but ultimately I do want all of you to succeed. Also, I am something of a technical critic—expect lots of analysis of the text, and not quite so much about the plot.

The two main contenders for my vote were the final two entries. There has been precedence of me voting for an entry with the second-highest rating of the bunch; an exceptionally well-made entry does not necessarily resonate exceptionally well.

In the end, my @vote goes to the sixth entry, the Watched Pot!

And the votes are in! (Good job @Holmishire you snuck in after midnight but before I woke up. So. Your vote is valid. xD)

RPGC #11 (Heatwave): Voting Results

Winner: The Watched Pot by @McHaggis!

Earning six of the seven votes that were cast, with the biggest margin in the history of RPGC, it's clear that The Watched Pot was an audience favorite. Congratulations McHaggis, and great work.

Runner Up: The Springs Gone By by @Keyguyperson!

As ever, Keyguyperson continues to impress with his epic works of historical fiction. Great work, Key, and congratulations.

Honorable Mentions: The Tenth Circle by @Silver and The Spark by @Esoteric!

While neither of these entries was awarded a vote, they were both marked as runner-ups in several reviewers' commentaries. Therefore it is only fitting that they both receive an honorable mention.

Judges' choice awards will be compiled at a later time, and trophies will be handed out at the same time. I believe we are still rather backed up on trophies but we will sort it out soon, I promise.

This marks the conclusion of RPGC#11. @Terminal, the floor is yours.

edit: Oh bother Aria did a derp don't hate me please

@McHaggis Er, a little late, but I want to congratulate you on your win! It was well deserved! And of course, @Keyguyperson's entry was well deserving of the runner-up spot~

@Esoteric Hm. If it was a grandfather reading me the story while I sat and listened attentively, then I do believe I probably would have gotten more invested than I did. I'm not entirely sure you managed to convey that feel. But, even if you did, it is very difficult to become emotionally invested into something so... so... alien. XD

Regardless, as I said, it was really interesting. You're welcome for the compliments, you deserve them. Well done, still.
