Name: Francois “Jacques” Marie Isidore Marceau
Appearance:
Age: 31
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Magic: Though traited with Yin magic, he has absolutely no skill in regards to magical prowess and would hardly be able to cast a single spell.
Francois, however, makes up for his lack of magic not true any strength of his own, hardly being better than the average soldier with a sword and definitely below average in brute force. He instead uses intellect, tactics and strategy collected through his experiences, readings, and through what he had been taught during his childhood to deceive opponents superior to himself.
Personality: Francois, or as he better likes to refer to himself as Jacques, tends to be someone you cannot seem to trust at first glance, but at the same time drawn by a certain charisma that seems otherworldly. On the surface, Francois seems to be someone who would protect his ideals to the dying breath, but would fully expect others to die for his dreams. Jacques has long been driven by a desire to fulfill his dream of toppling the monarchy and nobility of his home state, building his very life for that purpose willing to sacrifice anything and anyone to achieve it. From birth he had always "known the way up", his egotism exacerbated by his charisma which has an alluring effect on those around him.
However, behind his often seen wry smile lies something more. A burning hatred of the government. A disgust and distrust to all around him, regardless of position. But still feels that it is his goal, as someone who has seen the horrors of the system and what they could produce, to protect the poor stasti of Lugnica through any means possible. However, through his charisma he was able to secure both funding through unknown sources, possibly merchants who distrust the nobility, nations wishing to create disarray within Lugnica, or other sources. He has amassed a bit of a cult following from his followers who dream of a world beyond the barricade.
Due to his hatred of the nobility and the lies they spew and power they showcase to keep the third-estate [the peasants] in line, Jacques cannot trust anyone who had their desires given rather than earned through their own hands. However, due to his cunning and malicious personality, Jacques would use those whom hail this heritage to further his own goals, even if it means eventually betraying their trusts as time goes on.
Jacques tends to speak of the peasants “dropping their shackles” and obtaining "liberty, equality, fraternity",. He also distrusts the church due to the Dragon not caring about the suffering of the everyday people and willingly turning a deaf ear to those not “worthy” of its presence.
Background: Francois was born inside a jail to his widowed mother, who had been sentenced to a crime of murdering her husband, which she claims she never committed. But Francois only later learned the truth of the matter.
Fantaghiro Marceau was known across the land she worked for her fair and noble beauty, and many were jealous of Francois’ father, Jacques for seizing the opportunity as one of her childhood friends to take her hand in matrimony. The two were inseparable together. However, like many of the farmhands, the noble who owned the property found Ms. Fantaghiro Marceau to be a beauty and wished to take her for his mistress, promising her endless wealth and to be treated rightly, unlike what Jacques could provide for her.
However, there are a few things in this world that money cannot buy, and Fantaghiro loved her husband more than anything else. This infuriated the noble, and upon learning that Fantaghiro was pregnant, he had staged a murder to imprison the young Fantaghiro and her unborn child.
Francios had seen the worst of what humanity had to offer during his childhood. Rapists, murderers, and occultists, all locked up on the jail and all reverting back to their primal instincts. He cursed his fortune and prayed every day for the dragon to relieve him of such torture, but such a time never came to pass.
But even during her incarceration, Fantaghiro never accepted the noble and claimed she still loved her husband. Forcing himself upon her, eventually Fantaghiro could no longer bare the stress of what had happened and perished, her son left forgotten in a prison at the tender age of 10, fighting off those who hardly deserve the light of day.
It wasn’t until a devilish rogue assisted Francois’ escape from his tower that the boy had even been outside. Like a father in his own right, the rogue was once the a prominent general in his own right, but was imprisoned due to gaining too much power, according to the other nobles, over his men. Teaching Francois, who at that time took the name of his father, Jacques, everything he had known about tactics, strategy, and the like, which Jacques's perversed to suit his own ideologies.
However, by that time his surrogate father had passed on by the age of 15, and Jacques chose to utilize his cunning to swindle people out of their cash, such as cheating at poker, outsmarting an opponent in a game with money on the line, or using weighted dice and sleight of hand.
Although Francois was grateful for what the man had done for him, the gears in his head turned and he wished to reform the society that would allow for such a situation to exist called the Jacobins, whose mission statement is to eradicate the Monarchy and nobility within Luginca and reduce the people’s reliance on the dragon for protection anymore, creating a democratic, secular society. Though many still cling to the hope of the Dragon’s protection, how could they turn a blind eye to the suffering of the people?
However, considering the somewhat radical idea of reducing the impact of the dragon from people’s life, he seems to have support, even if by chance, of the Witch’s Cult, though this tends to be, as Francois calls it, a baseless rumor.
