Day 18 - a song I have as my ringtone/want to be my ringtone
I was/is absolute Undertale trash.
I'm not actually big on ringtones - one reason being that I mostly keep my phone on mute, another is that most of my music is mainly unfit for this purpose, lol. A ton of EDM tracks start slowly/in a softer melody before they build up for the awaited drop. Ringtones need to be short and snappy, to immediately get your attention. I've tried editing the tracks so that they start straight at the drop, but that's...that's kind of the opposite end of the spectrum.
Toby Fox's own 'remix' of the beloved Megalovania is however a perfect fit: chippy 8-bit goodness that is neither too meek nor too obnoxious, but rather keeps good pace throughout the entirety of the song. Just great music (which track of Toby isn't?) and a very fitting one to be a ringtone, in my opinion.
Who knows though, one day I might just set this sweetie for the purpose. And always have my phone on full blast. It's the only one to play this song, ringtone or not!
Honestly, most of their songs can manage to make me smile. But this song just has a special charm to it. I don't know if it's the beat or whatever but I really don't care. All I know is that it can make me smile and just want to snap my fingers side by side to the beat. His voice and the "AHHHH AH AH AH AHHHHH" just makes me sing it out loud with him. Love his voice.
I wasn't even aware that people still used ringtones, I'll be honest. I absolutely despise ringtones and find them to be somewhat distracting and usually choose to leave my phone on vibrate or silent mode as a result. Purely for the sake of this challenge, I will pick a song and for the sake of my sanity, I will never go through with actually making it my ringtone.
Anyway, the song I'd pick would be Riptide by Vance Joy. Honestly, I was originally going to use this song for tomorrow's prompt as I'm very obsessed with song and I was also going to choose NJ Legion Iced Tea for today instead. I eventually decided against both as I have a better song for tomorrow and I already have NJ Legion Iced Tea as my alarm clock. In short? I don't think doubling up songs would be good for my sanity either.
What was I talking about? Oh, yes. Riptide.
I absolutely adore this song from the lyrics to the singer's voice to the calmness that the song alludes. Generally speaking, from something that I would presumably be hearing quite often, the calmness of the song would be welcoming to someone like me who has anxiety when it comes to speaking on a phone. Also, just listen to the song. Is it not the best thing you've ever heard?!?
It's definitely up there for me.
(I'm also still here. I'm here until the very end.)
Legit only posted 1 hr ago and legit don't care. Anyways. This song by precious Tom Rosenthal is one of my favorites along with every other one of his songs. Literally. I don't have one that I dislike. This song is the one that makes me smile while I shut my eyes and just listen to his raspy voice. The vibrations that I can feel throughout me with my headphones. Makes me just want to drink a hot cup of cocoa outside during a summery day for some reason. Also, if I actually bother to watch the video, I love the simplicity of it. It's nothing special but it is. Either way, Tom Rosenthal is just wonderful.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the absolute pinnacle of trap music from one of the greatest trap gods to have graced our world. Scylla has everything I love about the genre, and just music in general: an incredibly rhythmic beginning that introduces instruments one by one and still so seamlessly, a buildup that is repetitive BUT still different enough that you become anxious af expecting the drop AND THEN IT COMES
THE MYTHICAL SEA BEAST RISES THEN DROPS TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FUCKING MARIANA TRENCH
This shit goes HARD!! The bass is HEAVY and you can actually FEEL IT unlike that shitty modern trap/big room stuff that calls a silent bassline a 'drop' fuckspinnintv
I've no idea what the leading instrument is even called here, BUT WHO GIVES A SHIT! I just lose myself harder than Eminem every could every time it comes. Head-bobbing, arm flailing, that robotic movement every knows but like ten people in the world do correctly, YOU NAME IT! I dance in the freakiest way that I can come up with in that given situation.
The only, ONLY problem I have with this masterpiece of a drop that it's too short at only 30 seconds long before reverting to a (similarly bass heavy!) bridge part. Seasoned trap listeners might think that now they gotta wait another minute listening to a beat that may or may not be totally the same as the initial melody before having the SAME EXACT DROP WITH LIKE TWO NOTES CHANGED AT MOST i swear they only do it to double the song length the cheeki breekis
But wait Only like ten seconds have passed and you already hear the exciting buildup again THAAAT'S RIGHT
BEFORE YOU COULD EVEN THINK YOU'RE OUT, IT PULLS YOU BACK IN
Drop, bass, fucking awesomeness incarnate. For the second time!
Too bad it's over now cuz 99% of trap songs religiously have two drops before getting a little closing melody and fizzing out In the case of Scylla this melody is the same as the beginning...ah well I guess even trap gods run out of steam sometimes It's minute 3 now into the track and--
there is another buildup poow poow Poow POOW POOOOW
DUN DUN DUN DUN
SLAAAAMS YOU DOWN INTO THE CRUST OF THE EARTH AND BEYOND WITH THE DEEPEST, MOST ENERGETIC DROP YET
seriously if you did not get an immediate urge to SMASH SOMETHING TO LITTLE PIECES AND/OR PARTY HARD when hearing that you're probably faking it
...
After your third seizure-like dancefest it finally ends...along with you as you collapse from exhaustion and from just being unable to handle THE AMOUNT OF FUCKING EPIC THIS SONG IS I SERIOUSLY CAN'T I <3 SCYLLA I <3 RL GRIME ASDF So yeah I think I kinda like this song.
I don't think I would ever hear the end of it from @Grey if I didn't put this song for today.
Yes. I am absolutely obsessed with Good Grief and likely Bastille's entire new album in general. Not only do I listen to Good Grief whenever I have my headphones popped in, I also listen to it at home and hum it to myself even when the song isn't playing. I know every lyric by heart and I even have the tendency to sing certain lyrics in the same accent that Dan Smith uses. There's really no reason as to why I'm obsessed with this song.
Is it because it's Bastille? Is it because it's from Bastille's new album? Is it because of the sick drum drop at the beginning? Is it because it reminds me of Canada? Is it because it reminds me of my new found independence? Is it because it reminds me of airports? Is it because it reminds me of airplanes and being 17,000 feet up in the air? Is it because it sounds awesome and is catchy? Is it because I love the lyrics and think they have doubling meaning?
Truthfully, I have no idea.
And I don't need one either because this song is just perfect no matter what.
Day 15 - A song people wouldn’t expect you to like
Everyone that knows me knows that I hate country music. It's just something about this one song, though. It's so damn catchy, especially the remix with Nelly! My 7th grade history teacher would play this song almost everyday and it just got stuck in my head.
Day 16 - A song that holds a lot of meaning to you
This is where the Boondocks theme song came from...the original song. My dad and I used to watch the show every night, despite my mother's protests. She thought that I was too young to watch it (I was nine) and she was right, but that didn't mean we listened to her. My dad moved to Texas a year later and I never really hear from him. I miss those days. This song holds a lot of meaning to me., and hearing it just brings back so many good, old memories.
Day 17 - A song that annoys you
Okay, sure, it was pretty dope at first. Once I started hearing it every second on every damn radio station, it started to pluck my nerves. Now I hear it everywhere. I see it on those hazardous Musical.ly videos, Instagram videos, Snapchat, school dances, etc. It is so overplayed. The only time I can tolerate it is when it's a hip-hop dance video, and that's only because of the beat.
Day 18 - A song you have as your ringtone/want to be your ringtone
Still not 100% why I have this song as my ringtone... not planning on changing it any time soon, though. I love Outkast.
Day 19 - A song you’re currently obsessed with
I've never really been a big fan of Kehlani, although I do love her voice. I first heard this song when I was trolling around for the Suicide Squad soundtrack, and found it along with 2 other songs. I was super excited for the movie, to say the least. The whole Harley Quinn/Joker chemical vat scene had me in the feels, along with this song....lord!
Day 16 - A song that holds a lot of meaning to you
This song got me through a lot of bad times in Highschool. Love the music video. I listen to it whenever I get legitimately angry over someone.
Day 17 - A song that annoys you
You get no song. I'm just going to say pretty much anything by Iggy Azalea, Megan Trainor, Drake, Charlie Puth, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Adele, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Annie Goulding, Lana Del Ray, Justin Beiber, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and about any R&B, Pop, and Rap song you hear on the radio when you turn it on. I'm so not a fan of that shit in 2016. I haven't really been a fan of pop music since 2013.
I don't need no money You worth more dan diamonds, more dan gold As long as I keep dancing Free up yourself, get outa control This song always makes me happy when I hear it on my playlist or on the radio. There's something really uplifting about it that put me in a good mood that I don't even know how to put it in words. It's one of those songs that makes me smile every time that I listen to it.
Day 20 // A song from a new album you are waiting for to come out.
It is very rare for me to wait for a new album to release. Unfortunately, due to my ADD, I pay very little attention to following new releases. Unless they so happen to be Bastille (or Junior Doctor if they were to ever make a new album). Now, to be fair, this prompt would have become invalid on Friday as the album already came out on September 9th, 2016. For the sake of my sanity and this challenge, I'm going to go ahead and "stretch" my waiting a little bit.
Within the past week, you would to have been blind (or have had avatars and signatures turned off) to see that I wasn't waiting for Bastille's new album, Wild World, to release. And man, was I. I rushed home after school on Friday afternoon to give the new album a play on Spotify and it is AWESOME. And that's not just because it's Bastille. But that does help a lot.
Probably the best song off the album, in my opinion, is one of the singles released beforehand: Send Them Off!
Day 20 - a song from a new album I am waiting for to come out
Obligatory 'this album is already released'. Also this one may be cheating a bit, as it is the album from the label itself, which means it features many different artists rather than just one. But I digress. It was only released a couple days ago and it's Monstercat, which has great artists and great tracks in store for pretty much all EDM fans.
The album in question, Monstercat 028 - Uproar, is no exception to this rule. From newcomers like the above-linked Tokyo Machine (who is absolutely kawaii, by the way) and Conro, to seasoned veterans like the Pegboard Nerds and Project 46; from heavy-hitting dubstep and electro to cheerful future bass and DnB; this album has everything.
Oh god, talk about a trip down Nostalgia Lane. this song brings me back to my emo days. Granted, I wasn’t necessarily the outward emo like most were with the long hair and black nails, but I was an emo in spirit. More specifically, I was all about MCR back in those days. A lot of people told me that MCR sucked, but I never listened to them. They were one of my favorite bands. They still are. I go back and listen to Three Cheers and Black Parade every now and then. Hell, even Danger Days has its moments. However, no song on The Black Parade stood out to me - especially live - like Teenagers did.
I remember going to Projekt Revolution Tour 07 in Mountain View, CAlifornia, and seeing them live with Taking Back Sunday, Linkin Park, Placebo, and HIM. God it was a great show, and MCR killed it.
Day XV- A song people wouldn’t expect you to like
I guess a lot of people wouldn’t expect me to like this because it’s a song that someone like me shouldn’t listen to, but I occasionally can be hood, yo. throws up random gang sign But seriously, I just happen to like Gangsta Rap too. Got a problem with that? Fite me irl bruh.
Day XVI- A song that holds a lot of meaning to you
Ah yes, here comes the Eyeshine spam.
Anyways, this is a song that hits me on a lot of emotional levels. Having been in a place where I truly hated myself, this song really helped with that. Seems kind of stupid, but music helps me in that way. I sound like my old emo self, but this song just clicked with me at that time. So, uh, yeah -heavy stuff.
Day XVII - A song that annoys you
Do I really need to explain this one?
Day XVIII- A song you have as your ringtone/want to be your ringtone
I used to have this as my ringtone. I wouldn’t mind to have it as my ringtone again tbh.
Day XIX - A song you’re currently obsessed with
I love The Pretty Reckless and I love this song. Short but sweet, right? And this song gives me vibes of The Rolling Stones. What’s not to love there? :D
Day XX - A song from a new album you are waiting for to come out
Okay, so technically this album has already came out, but it’s the only one I can think of aside “Take Me Down” by The Pretty Reckless, but I already used that one, so this song was the only other one I could think of. Regardless, the album Paranoia is on is pretty dank, so yeah.
D a y 17, 18, 19, 20 // A song annoys you A song you have as your ringtone/want to be your ringtone A song you’re currently obsessed with A song from a new album you are waiting for to come out
This may get some backlash but I don't care. This song annoys me to no end and got incredibly hyped. It's mediocre in my opinion.
I'm hyper active. This ringtone suits me.
Dude. I just keep watching this video over and over. The staging is phenomenal. But they also made the actual song better by covering it. Just me. Forever a Kurt Hugo Schneider fan girl.
Green Day has been teasing! Their new song reminds me of the good ol' days. I can't wait for Revolution Radio!!!
And then that word grew louder and louder 'Til it was a battle cry I'll come back When you call me No need to say goodbye This song is one of those songs that makes my head fresh again. The instruments are peaceful and calm enough for me to place this song here. There were other songs that I were going to pick out, like Parachute's Crave. Overall, I think that this song has a place for me as the song that can clear out my head of any thoughts. The song is somewhat mournful, but the words are full of hope.
I was in a little trouble here with today's challenge. As you probably have already noticed, 99% of my music library is totally unfit for weddings (and many other purposes). And it's not like I really had to consider prepping a soundtrack for the big day just yet...
Enter my little sis, who, like most girls, is an absolute master of all things romantic. She showered me with like half dozen occasion-worthy tracks and James Blake's Retrograde was what the most to my liking. Even without delving into its meanings, I find it a very well constructed song: the humming is hauntingly beautiful, the lyrics are sung excellently and the music does a perfect job in constructing and maintaining the atmosphere.
I can already imagine holding my darling's hand as we gently dance under the moonlight, getting lost in each other's gaze and movements, undisturbed by everything else...embracing this little thing called love to the fullest. <3
Day 21 // A song you want to dance to at your wedding.
I really, really love this song. In fact, if Fuel, Junior Doctor and Bastille never existed, this would probably qualify for my favorite song. I wasn't even aware that I was absolutely in love with this song until I saw Goo Goo Dolls, but yes, I am absolutely in love with this song. I know it's not exactly the fluffiest song, but I still think it's quite cute . . I mean, just look at these lyrics!
Put your arms around me What you feel is what you are And what you are is beautiful Oh, May Do you wanna get married Or run away?
It is a little ruined that my name isn't May, but I still think the lyrics are cute and I also heavily relate to some of the other lyrics as well:
Don't you love the life you killed? The priest is on the phone Your father hit the wall Your ma disowned you
I just. I really want this song played at my wedding, okay?! It just sounds upbeat and feels upbeat, I love the lyrics, it is a little fluffy and I can even relate (in a positive way) to some of the more depressing lyrics. I don't just want this song to be played at my wedding, it will be played at my wedding.
Real quick now, don't you bore us Hurry up and get to the chorus Dumbed down, they won't ignore us (Tape slow down Take 'em to the chorus) Oh my god. This song makes me laugh. If you don't know what you just listened to, then I will tell you. They made a pop song to make fun of pop songs and their pop song is still better than other pop songs out there. Now, I don't have anything wrong with pop music; but, the similarities in each song are there that they told in the song. Hope that helps you.
