Alright so this has been a pet project of mine for a while and I'd like to see if it the setting is complete enough to run a RP in. If you are interested playing in a somewhat generic fantasy setting that is extensively written with a pre-set plotline, please go ahead and read below. Please do note that I will explain the setting in significant more detail in the actual sign up post if there is enough interest generated.

Setting

Technologically it will be represented as somewhere around 14th-15th century. Gunpowder weapons are existent but some other technology are missing or somewhat advanced. For instance, technology and engineering capabilities regarding sailing and such are rather underdeveloped due to the geographical condition of the human territory while technology regarding weaponry are fairly advanced due to its history.

As for geography, the human territory (yes other non-human species and factions are existent but hardly mentioned, therefore I'll save that detail for when its relevant) stretches mostly inland and occupies an area approximately the size of real-life China. 6 human states (mainly looks like City-States with numerous smaller towns and satellite cities within their territories), each with distinctly separate cultures, have divided this territory. A massively wide variety of climates are included, including deserts, mountains, forests, arctic tundra, etc.

Historically, the current 6 nations have been existing for approximately 200 years. Previous to that a singular empire existed that practically was made up of the entirety of the human population of this world. It held great influence worldwide and actually communed with other non-human states outside its boundaries. (This pretty much explains why the 6 separate nations with distinctive cultures all share the same language and currency) However, a great conflict known as the Nether War essentially broke the empire and its descendants are the current 6-nation system in place. Each of these 6 nations hold a major city as their capital and was previously one of the major provinces of the old Empire.

Most laws of physics, etc are fairly identical with our real world with 2 major distinctions; magic and physical capability of any being, human or animal. Magic is real and follows a strict system-rule like any other parts of reality. Easiest way to think of magic is its like one of the fundamental forces of nature, such as gravity that can be harnessed and utilized by any sentient being (I will explain this more in detail in sign up post). However, just like how one can be naturally gifted with intelligence, strength, speed, etc, magic also requires natural talent. However, one can train themselves in magic to overcome their limits, similar to physical limits which I will explain right afterwards. Physical capability is much greater than those of reality. For instance, in reality, with hard training a man maybe able to bench press more than 200lb. In this world, as long as one trains their body, the cap for physical fitness goes to superhuman levels. As per part of the physical fitness, this quality not only applies to strength, but to other aspects such as stamina, reaction speed and running speed as well. This same law applies to non-human beings such as animals.

Plot

The power of the human nations have been waning ever since the fall of the old empire and the lands, even the territories directly owned by one of the nations, have become dangerous and rough. Infested by dangerous beasts, rogue humans such as gangs and other horrors, travel and trade between the 6 nations is becoming increasingly difficult, hurting humanity even more. The wealthiest of the 6 nations, Narashiro, has decided to launch a campaign to cleanse out its territories of such dangers by summoning and hiring men and women from across the land. Mercenaries, bounty hunters, soldiers, knights, humanitarian missionaries, beast hunters and more have all been offered a chance to earn a shiny penny and then some.

You will be playing as one of these people who have traveled from various parts of the land (or just from Narashiro herself) to heed to the call of this national campaign. You will be put into a team of such individuals and be working for the government of Narashiro. Missions will include all sorts of different adventures, anywhere from the common monster hunting trip deep into the woods to wiping out a band of thieves and murderers on the loose.

etc

1. If you join this game with a character, your character may be featured in the story I have been working on for this setting. Depends on how this rp goes. If you are not okay with that but would still like to play, let me know. If you are fine with your character being used, give me a name (it can be your account name on here obviously or a pen name if you prefer) and I'll make sure to cite the credits for your character.
2. As I have mentioned earlier, I have significant more detail regarding... everything so I'll post that in the main thread if we get enough interest.
3. I'll probably be taking between 5-8 people in terms of group size. Also if you would indeed like to join I would very much appreciate that but I would very much like you to not afk or go on hiatus without notice.
4. I'll be your GM (derp) and only GM. Meaning I won't be a player and will be working full-time on progressing story and responding with NPC.

Thanks for reading!

Interested but why are the nations suddenly plagued by all of these horrible events? Or has that always been the case? What is the impetus for the events that lead to the story?

My apologies for the confusion I'll try my best to answer your question. It's always been a problem ever since the fall of the old empire and has been consistently getting worse. During the days of the empire, the imperial troops and other central-government related forces would be responsible for keeping internal security but since the fall of the old empire, that has not happened. Also the fall of the old empire was devastating to the point where it was said that humanity backtracked in terms of population and technology by about a hundred years or so. The 6 Remnant nations afterwards had highly decreased military and more or less left for the countrysides and thinly populated areas to fend for themselves.

Nothing wrong with a bit of generic fantasy, considered me interested. I'll need some more of the background info before I can commit to a more fleshed out idea of my character.

Alright that sounds cool. I mean this is just the interest check thread to see if its worth writing up an OOC so. Thanks for the interest.

Tentatively interested, I also can't say for sure without seeing the rest of the setting. I do like that you won't be playing a character, I think a hands-off GM is the best way to RP.

*gets shot for double posting*

I'm sorry about the wait folks, the OOC page is taking much longer than I anticipated, as I am trying to cram as much info on it as I possibly can.

Take your time. Any info you can give us that might help forming characters would be great so we could get started on it.

So, you mentioned that outside the fractured remains of the once great human empire there existed neighboring kingdoms populated by other races. I'm wondering why in the 200 years since the collapse of humanity as a united regional power external forces haven't made tributaries, annexed lands or pushed back borders of the petty holdings that remain. Are they worried that external pressure would once more galvanize humanity?

Secondly, on the aspect of training oneself to superhuman heights; would you say it follows the 'muscles are meaningless' trope where it's simply an innate magical reaction? A sort of mystical placebo effect where in believing an action should make one stronger is enough for it to do so? Or would you say it's more of a 'I am the clay and the wheel' scenario wherein flesh becomes like leather, tendons like rope and so on. For power to have weight and substance.

If anyone has any specific questions for forming characters until OOC is up, let me know I'll answer them here.

As for the questions... you somewhat answered it.

For the first one, it's an amalgamation of several different factors. I'd say the biggest reasons are:
1. Lack of population since the great conflict, therefore humanity simply doesn't have the influence upon the rest of the world like it used to.
2. Xenophobia with the other races is extremely strong. The other races doesn't exactly like humanity either. The subject of racism is a pretty heavy topic in this world. Ever since the conflict (which actually devastated every other race too) everyone is sort of in a "let's just deal with our own problems first" mood.
3. The area where the Empire was, is naturally cut of from rest of the world by natural barriers such as deserts, mountain ranges, etc.
4. Lastly, the 6 Remnant Nations that arose from the old empire's ashes aren't too keen on destroying the current balance of things. You barely see any physical military actions, rather everything has become very political.

For the second one... you actually just somewhat spoiled yourself. Haha, nice work. Only a very few guess and know this fact. Actually its a combination of two reasons; first the biology of this world is indeed slightly different. Lifting and working out will improve your physical qualities significantly higher than it is possible in the real world. (This is probably one of the most unrealistic piece of setting in my world) However, there is a limit obviously. This limit can be broken through rudimentary use of magic, since magic requires Will to be cast. I'll explain magic in more detail in the next post I make here if anyone is interested. It works on a fairly strict but also creative system.
