@Mr Rage
Just to point out- the GM recently told me that werks are on average around 60 meters tall. A car is generally around three or four meters long. It is like throwing a flaming baseball at someone and hoping it will be lethal.

@Ariamis
Though looking at scaling, I think this would make collapsing the empirestatebuilding on a werk a lethal option.

@Ariamis You said I can't prepare a reaction shot this round, and I know I can't fire, right?

So it sounds like X-7 isn't gonna be making combat maneuvers this round.

Troas people, I can probably charge up the railgun for a shot next round. But while it would give me a good chance at making the mist feel bad...

Well we saw what the armor piercer did, I don't think firing off the HE in this close of proximity is a good idea.

How big of a blast radius do you think it has? I was thinking through various solutions until I remembered something.

Current:

Past:

"The Rostosov endured the heavy barrage of plasma cannons directed at him."
"The Rostosov was hit in it's exposed back, sending it falling down, and the resulting bombardment of titanium-melting hellfire quickly sealed any hope of saving him."

The sector Mist moved into is actually more ideal for firing on than the sector it had previously occupied, assuming that the strike that killed Rostosov already has killed off the majority of the sector.

If we want to talk about sectors that haven't been crushed/fired on in some major way... we are looking at something like this:

"The Planetary Defence Force will form defensive positions in the colonies, but they have been ordered to only target the enemy infantry and troop carriers. Assault vehicles and war machines are your squad's sole responsibility, Officer." -Lieutenant Ritsu

Keeping in mind that Mist has not fired yet, from what I can devise from the GM posts is that our PDF is still alive and kicking, though throughout the city Cruxi ground forces had begun to push them back a few rounds ago. (Though post wise, that is only a few minutes.)

The marks I put on the map are just marking the Cruxi WERK movement. Our role was to prioritize the assault vehicles and war machines. Currently however, Cruxi ground forces are winning the war while we play with the big toys. While I do have pity for those caught in the crossfire, our priority should switch from the War Machines to assisting the PDF as soon as possible. I am afraid a single sector or even four sectors of civilian casualties is a small price for the lives of the entire colonies worth of inhabitants.

That said, remember that the PDF base is now well within MISTS firing range, if MIST catches them in the crossfire, our ground troops will lose central communication, and due to jamming, our intra-planetary forces will not be able to help them coordinate. Unfortunately, our works are too big and unwieldy to aid the ground troops in anything but firesupport, but even that would be invaluable in this situation. The least a 60 meter mechanical monster could do is squash a few groups of baddies, even if it is crippled and disarmed.

TLDR; Our priority is to eliminate Cruxi WarMachines AND to assist the PDF in fighting off Cruxi ground forces. If Mist is not eliminated quickly, we are in danger of winning the battle and then losing the city.

If we must become demons to save the people, then let us become demons. They will curse us even as we sacrifice ourselves to save them.

@Gate Keeper Well the Armor Piercing shot slaughtered thousands apparently, and that is a more directed attack. My HE shot is built as a bunker buster; which is usually associated with a large AoE (usually due to multiple explosions from a bomb fragmenting. I figured it is just a bigass explosion unless Ariamis says otherwise).

So I think it might be able to eat up multiple grid points, but I am not overly sure. @Ariamis, how big is my AoE?

Furthermore, I've still got around 190 Missiles ready to go, so I've two choices. Blow everything to hell with the big gun, or I can launch a large attack with multiple missiles, hitting it indirectly on all sides. Less collateral, I'd wager.

Uncharged hits the targeted grid, charged hits targeted grid and every grid adjacent to it (essentially a 3x3 square).

You know what I think we learned from all of this? When you guys with physical weapons get secondary systems, you need to get a laser gun side arm of some sort. That's what I learned.

I am in favor of using missiles, as they have lower collateral risk and can be fired without a standby period. (I assume anyway.) However, I notice in posting that they have short range. Is X-7 capable of getting within range and firing said missiles in one post?

@AtomicNut
It may be that only Eiswolf is capable of attacking MIST at all, and Eiswolf's weapon lacks an energy signature. (Unless it can manage an explosion of some sort at range.) It may be possible to bait MIST away from the PDF base by attacking it though. Using Magus as a signal flair is a pretty clever idea though- however I am not sure we are past the longrange jamming yet. I bet we can come up with a work around on that.

@Dragoknighte (Because I feel like being a team is important <3 )

The better question for the x-7 is can it fire the missiles and get away in the same post? Move close enough to the target, then fire and GTFAWAY from that thing before it melts your brains... Using your movement to get within its range and then firing puts you in a suicide mission, so you have to move within range and then on your next turn, fire the missiles without aiming at it directly, and run like crazy.

Also, I assume the point of Serah withdrawing and Sigma asking her to ask them to do a bombardment was because Serah would be leaving the jamming range by jumping out of the Atmosphere.

Also, it occurs to me that we have all of this time that we are discussing this and making plans, that we should probably be doing some collab posting. I am generally against it in combat because it takes SO LONG to get posts sometimes, but who am I kidding, our single poster rate of posting is dismal anyways, so we should probably go ahead and get some collabs in for the purpose of getting the higher sync rate. I mean, there are examples of non-collab posts getting the sync bonuses anyways, like with Dragoknight and GateKeeper, but we might as well go for the gold. That being said, Zim and Blackstar being so far away from anybody else in Joppa makes it silly to do a collab, but Mai and Ariin could do a collaborative post, for example.

Just thinking out loud is all.

@Ariamis Just to verify, short range is 2 spaces or one diagonal, correct? Also while I have your attention, I assume that the damaged arm is the left arm, as that would have been the arm closest to the sniper, based on the direction of travel. Is this correct?

@Mr Rage Can't fire this post, so I imagine I can move in this turn. Then I am in range to fire on next turn, then GTFO like none other on that same turn.

Yeah, that doesn't work. I already talked to Ariamis about it, and the only way to leave the battlefield (and thus the jamming) right now would be to board NOAH, which would count as desertion and is punishable by death. Serah is stuck fighting, even if she can't actually fight.

Also, it occurs to me that we have all of this time that we are discussing this and making plans, that we should probably be doing some collab posting.

Easier said than done.

Oh, by the way, I get the feeling you three are using the wrong line of thinking with MIST. Let's go over what we know:
  • It's a gas-like spherical weapon. It doesn't seem to be a piloted mechanism as what is inside would be liquified.
  • It seems to be sentient to a degree.
  • Ally and enemy are the same to it.
  • It is deadly to anything that lives.
  • It reacts negatively to energy based weaponry, but fires in retaliation.
  • It passes through anything and everything, like an intense version of radiowaves.
  • The only known way to get rid of it without casualty currently is by launching it into orbit. (And that isn't even known to the TROAS squad)

This, to me, sounds like a fully automated machine that protects itself whenever it feels a threat is around. Even if we didn't target it directly and just set off explosions around it, 9/10 chance it's going to go off anyway because it feels threatened. If that happens, we fucked up. The question isn't whether or not we can attack it without targetting, it's if we can get rid of it without setting it off. If we damaged it in any way it'd just fry the surroundings and the mission fails. We don't have access to Elora's fancy telekinesis, so that's out of the question. If we only think on how to damage it we'll get nowhere, we need to create some sort of shockwave that launches the thing so far away we'd never see it again before it fires.

I'll note that Mist's activation upon being damaged isn't confirmed, only being targeted is, so indirect damage can be used with a chance of not setting it off.

I don't deal in 'Chance' here. Also, an exact quote from Ritsu:

emitting some kind of radiation-based wave that bypasses Framewerk armor and liquefies the pilot inside when placed under any kind of threat or danger.

Yeah, I'd say that taking damage through explosions would be a bit of a threat.

We survived because that wasn't liquid courage in a bottle, it was liquid luck.

@Ammokkx
I have agreed with all of those points up to now- the game chamger was that it moved, with no direct provocation or interaction. I also take that to mean that it won't passively wait for us to figure out how to kill it.

@Ariamis
I was fairly sure that while Mist has a broad range of fire, it still only fires the wave in one direction when activated. (Say, three sectors east, west, diahnol, etc. But not all at once.) Is this true?

^With that in mind, my thought was to provoke it to fire away from the PDF base, which would stall for a turn. It is risky and possibly unnecessary,- (We dont KNOW that Mist will independantly fire on the PDF base.) But there Iis a lot riding on that.
