Intrigue - Low Fantasy - Mature - Advanced

For as long as men have lived in the world, there have been two moons -- Eirtu and Elonar. Eirtu has always been known as "The Great Moon" and the physical embodiment of the god of the world's dominant religion, whereas "The Lesser Moon" Elonar has faithfully orbited Eirtu as a physical manifestation of their goddess. That all changed recently when Elonar crashed into Eirtu, leaving nothing to prove it had ever existed but a sizable crater.

Predictably, the realm hasn't responded too well.

In the capital, tensions have been minimized to church leaders being busy handling the influx of converts and pleas of the frightened devout, whereas in the more rural regions of the world, low lords are being slain in the streets by hordes of peasants who believe that their goddess has died and that the end is very much nigh. With the royal army being a shadow of what it once was and practically abandoned because of the centuries of peace with other nations, chaos will definitely be one of the themes in play here.

Is this a post-apocalyptic medieval RP? No. By and large, I think most people will have calmed down about the moon exploding a few months into the RP when they've seen that the world isn't going to be swallowed into hellfire, but the point of this cataclysmic event is to spark off a power struggle that we'll deal with for the rest of the RP. Some will rise to power on the backs of those initially fearful about an apocalypse, others will use the tension to destroy old alliances and create new ones, and so on. This moon hoopajoop is designed to create the interregnum for our story that replaces Robert Baratheon's rebellion and death.

The roleplay itself will have its fair share of combat and war, but for the most part, I'd like to focus on intrigue more. "Petyr is an honorless liar" is one thing, but implying Petyr is guilty for something by saying "Surely, I hope you don't take into account Petyr's past as you cast judgement" is even better. I've seen too many Nation RP's where characters just blatantly say shit that would be taken as a declaration of war every other post, so try to not do that, unless your intention is to play a character destined to die because of their ignorance of politicking.

• Update Map

Done. Tried to keep Nex's territory map in mind, made Edontas swampier, thickened The Rhaetian wall a bit. All the changes were done to give relatively even amounts of land to cover all the leftover space left by the original shapes of the countries. Hopefully this will be the last map until we start conquering each other.

@Vor@The Nexerus@Terminal@Risendead It seems the northeastern chunk of Ardacia is cursed, as it has been dropped a third time. Such is life. If anyone knows of a person who is skilled and reliable enough for the position I'll consider it, but until that happens, @Vor gets the north. I, for one, welcome our Tyndall overlords.

The OOC is a WIP. Before we launch, I'm hoping everyone will update their sheets a bit, and I'll get a complete glossary of terms, creatures, plants, and other stuff out of the way. I thank you all for sticking around, especially with the high quality posts you've all submitted that'll be used for the first chapter.

I will see about reworking my sheet starting next Monday. Need to wrap up TTL business today and get started on a few other projects I had scheduled for the weekend. Will keep you updated.

Personally, I'm happy with the group we've got here, we're all on the same page when it comes to RP'ing so I don't think we need any more people. Also, I see why new applicants are hard to come by: we've already got an established setting, detailed sheets and in-depth posts, it can be daunting for a person to read all that and come up with something that fits with what we've already got.

If all of us are seriously considering going through with this, I suggest we re-structure stuff a bit. You say the northeastern chunk of Ardacia is cursed? Well, why don't we have it as some failed kingdom that actually IS cursed? Maybe rulers and Houses have come and gone, but nobody has managed to lay claim to it. It's a desolate region, filled with squabbling warlords and petty kingdoms. This can provide incentive for neighbouring kingdoms (I guess in this case it would be Kedoren and Aaldorenfeald) to feud over it. Let it be an unclaimed region, like the Sylvain Forest.

FInally, while I believe some of you may disagree, I feel like we need to, I dunno, slim things down a bit. The way you guys set up the RP initially is good, but aimed towards more players. With five kingdoms, we need to play to our strengths (less people - easier to manage), focus more on an overreaching storyline to tie us all together, as opposed to worrying about getting the history of irrelevant regions in our kingdoms just right and coming up with plot hooks nobody picks up on. (I'll be the first to admit I'm guilty of this) We should get together, brainstorm and decide on two or three plotlines that are going to drive the story and get to the actual RP'ing. We spent far too much time world-building the first time around and eventually stalled when it was time to tell a story, which is what the point of the RP is in the first place, right?

@Vor I wholeheartedly on slimming things down and brainstorming. Didn't see this post until just now -- have been juggling some things -- so I didn't add the northeast as an abandoned sector on the map, but if you'd like for a lot of it to be under Tyndall rule but pretty much abandoned then you're welcome to it.

As for plotline brainstorming, for the sake of transparency, here's what I've got so far.

In the prior thread the Soneillons had sent a Questor Trio to assist Ser Bagface. I see no reason why that would not be the case here.

@Terminal That's being carried over. Would you be RPing for the trio?

No.

I mean, everyone should feel free to write for Questors elsewhere, but these three will be written by me.

@DeadBeatWalking

This seems intriguing, I love world building and the idea of making nations and culture but I will admit that I have never done an official nation rp, the closest things I've done to this level were making civilizations in a homebrew dnd game for the gm, and hosting a god-related rp of my own.

Seeing that this is very low magic fantasy I was wondering if their could be a house that worships a dragon. Not just any dragon, but a dragon that is sentient, however rarely does he leave his domain. And while in a bygone age they used to have been infamous for their elite forces of Wyvern knights, due to cataclysmic event their is only one wyvern that has survived and belongs to the last remaining Wyvern knight of the house. Just an idea I'd like to pitch before I start expanding on that and making a sheet.
