Name: Michael Lau
Age: 20
Appearance: Calm as always, ain'tcha? He stands at about 5'10", which is a tad taller than you'd usually expect.
Personality: Michael is a generally laid-back person, at least in regards to people. He's a hard worker when it comes to getting the job done (regardless of what the 'job' is), though, and loves a good challenge when one rolls by. It's hard not to label him a bit of an ikemen, but it's not far from the truth; in general, he'll get along with (or try to get along with) people so long as they aren't complete jerks or on the opposite end of the moral spectrum. He knows, of course, that the world is a cutthroat place, but he'd rather not have to resort to killing if he can avoid it.
Beating sense into someone, though? That's a different story.
Abilities: Having studied mechanical engineering in college, Michael generally has an idea on how machines work and how everything kind of just... Works. Well, once he gets to examine it for a while, at least. He's creative enough to jerry-rig some devices (which isn;t that hard with the reliance on electricity these days), but he often makes note that messing with the wiring on stuff usually isn't the safest idea.
He also has some experience coding and messing around with electronics. Also cooking because college student with a kitchen plus hunger.

Cheat: A mana-powered tablet that lets Michael do three things:

• Store materials (inanimate) in a pocket dimension. This does have a capacity, but will grow larger as the group progresses.
• Consume materials to create items to use. Of course, the prerequisites to create any such item must be available to him to do this sort of thing in the first place. So no, he can't conjure up an AK and a bunch of ammo right off the start. Or even anything close to a gun, for that matter.
• Access the internet. He can't communicate with any parties on the other side outside of downloading things onto the tablet, but he can do things like using Google to search for answers to questions.

It may gain more capabilities in the future, but that seems fairly unlikely.
History: Michael's life was... Fairly mundane, in all honesty. He got good grades, played video games with friends, and hung out around school after classes to chat with people. Of course, having walked along the path that his parents drew for him, college was a breath of fresh air. He generally stuck to the lifestyle he had before, but with more freedom (and money in his pockets), he could mess around more with machines. That, coupled with the resources at the university he went to, meant that Michael had the chance to try and make a bit of a name for himself. The night he rode the train was the night after a conference for other inventors. After all, the best way to get inspiration was to learn from others... Right?
Other: Has a pet parrot at home (like in the picture :D). Also has a friend who talks about this kind of stuff all the time, but it usually goes in one ear and out the other. He still remembers bits and pieces of it here and there, though.

Name: Watanabe Haruka

Age: 25

Appearance: Haruka stands at 5'5". She is of a thin build. For the most part, she dresses like a responsible adult.

Personality: Haruka is, in contrast to her younger self, a hard-working and normal person. She finds anime and the culture surrounding it to be "disgusting", a result of her embarrassment of her past. She is a rather determined person, seeing things through to the end. In dire straits, she is willing to step up to the mantle of leader.

Besides that, her hobbies include sampling various cuisines and, well, working. She's just a bland person.

Abilities: Haruka, due to her habit of always eating out, is a terrible chef. Whatever home economics skills that she had acquired at some point have been lost to time. She's decently smart, however. She can also advertise things well, an extremely useful skill.

Cheat: 『 Darkpact Soulfury, Infinite Grimoire of Appointed Death 』 - While the name of her power is quite long and convoluted (she had no choice in the matter, she would have called it "magic book"), it's a rather simple power. In easiest to understand terms, she has UNLIMITED MAGIC POWER. However, she doesn't quite know how to use this power, as you need to chant power-words to activate spells that are documented in the book. It doesn't help that the book is in some sort of unrecognizable moon-runes. Luckily, some of the extremely basic spells are legible. These spells range from fireballs (literally hurling a ball of fire, doing nothing because there is no sort of fuel) to hurling iceballs (which hurt badly, but require arm-strength). However, to even use the magic in this book, she has to open it by yelling out "I call upon you 『 Darkpact Soulfury, Infinite Grimoire of Appointed Death 』 to destroy my foes", something that she refuses to do unless an emergency. This results in her just carrying around a heavy book. It also makes a good projectile, since the book is indestructible.

History: It is normal for a Japanese student to be stressed. It is understandable that they do, given that the Japanese schooling system is rather unforgiving. However, how to cope with that stress is a much more interesting story. For many students, hanging out with friends and doing fun things is enough. However, for Haruka, the only way that she could deal with her stress was escapism.

She would read manga and watch anime. Rather normal. However, her parents, wanting her to get into some sort of top-tier university, forbid it when she was at the ripe old age of birth. It was always English literature this and Japanese literature that. Haruka kept her hobby secret. However, repressed things tend to spiral out of control.

Within two years, Haruka had an absurd alter-ego. She was 『Bloodied Rose of the Infinite Past』, a mage that patrolled the streets. Luckily, nobody that she ever knew went there, as it was a cesspool of the things that good students hated. The local denizens of the area liked her, as she was cute and they thought she was just saying cute things. Boy, were they wrong.

Years had passed. As soon as Haruka was accepted into university, she realized the error of her ways. By some deus ex machina, she quickly became a normal human being. Focused on studying for the future to try to correct her past, she maintained high grades in hopes of becoming a healthy part of the workforce. Once she graduated, she managed to join an advertising agency. Her most notable idea was making chocolate bars for macho men, Shockolate (a product still being sold, despite its niche marketing). While on a midnight train ride home (one of many, she was constantly out eating with coworkers and prospective customers), it would appear that something absurd and fantastical would happen, much to her chagrin.

Appearance:
Darius Jacks is pretty much a normal teenage kid, standing at an average height of 5’7, with messy brown hair and light brown eyes. His complexion could be considered on the darker side of things, but definitely not enough that it’s tanned. Freckles can be spotted on his face and shoulders, which he attributes to that one-eighth of Irish blood that pumps through his veins, and his hands are large, callused not due to lifting weights or playing sports, but through handling tools. While he’s a little fat around his stomach, his arms are well-defined and sturdy. He can’t run like a marathoner, and he can’t stop swords with his one-pack abs, but Darius prides himself in being the undefeated champion of Shot for Shot, Mercy, and Arm Wrestling.

Personality: Darius Jacks is an individual that’s amiable and relaxed, taking everything in stride and calmly responding. His experiences have made it difficult for anything to really take him by surprise, and regardless of the situation, he is a firm believer in his ability to chug along swimmingly. To him, the world exists because he exists, and thus, there is nothing that is out of his reach if he reaches out for it. Unfortunately, there is also nothing significant that he really cares about, leaving him to simply be an ambitionless individual who lives life at his own pace. A slow and steady pace is ideal, after all, because there's too much he might miss if he went too fast.

Abilities: Darius has worked in a variety of jobs, from being a daycare volunteer to tech support to a line cook to construction work. He’s a fast learner, especially when it comes to hands-on work, and his confidence in doing well shows in how he interacts with others. His most prominent ability, after all, is to be confident even when he has no idea what he’s doing, because, hey, everything’s going to work out eventually.

No creature or creation on heaven and earth can bind him.

Total, unrestricted flight. That is the cheat granted to Darius upon crossing the boundary into another world. With clockwork wings, he flies in ways that even birds can not, ignoring inertia as he acrobatically maneveurs through the aether. And if he can ignore the laws of physics, then there is simply no way that mere magic can stop him. As long as he is aware of it, he can negate any sort of curse, bind, status effect, or magical barrier that is placed before him. As long as he's willing, as long as he can imagine it, there is no place that those clockwork wings won't take him.

At least until he bugsplats against a transparent window.

History: His parents taught him to stop dawdling and get shit done. His teachers taught him to do what he wanted to do while he still could. His employers taught him to suck shit up, because the world’s a cesspool. His friends taught him that life was much too short to stagnate in. With all those inspirations, Darius cruised through life trying to experience all that he wanted to experience, and, by the time he became 18 years old, he came to the realization that there wasn’t much else that he was interested in.

That was somewhat disappointing. He had thought that the world was a bigger place than that. So, with some help from his parents, he went off travelling around the world, searching for something new in the world that he had been born in. Mexico, England, Brazil, Russia, Tibet, Mongolia, and finally, Japan. On that last stop, he took the midnight train on a whim, and found himself a new world.

Age: 17
Appearance:
Joan is shorter than average, and older than she appears

Personality: Joan is an honest girl, to the point where she is blunt in her words. She is focused and tend not to get distracted from situations. She was modest in her skills, often being insatisfied on it. She was a bit shy & reserved, but she is calm & rational, rarely panicking. Thus, she is a bit cold-hearted, she would not let her emotions get in her way, not even when someone dies in front of her.

Abilities: She's skilled in archery, being able to fire quick and precise shots. She is also good at running, being able to position herself quickly. Also, she is a decent at pathfinding, figuring out paths as long as it isn't some sort of labyrinth.

Cheat: Infinite Ammo Cheat - As long as she could fire them, Joan's projectiles will replenish itself indefinitely.

History: Joan is born from a Canadian Father & a Japanese mother, thus her foreign first name. She had a normal & simple life in Tokyo, showing interest in archery from a young age. Since elementary school, she took on archery. She was naive and often emotional, that's until her ex-boyfriend dumped her and died from a car crash on the next day. Unsure of whether to be happy or sad about that, she decided focus more on honing her skills than to care too much on life. She took a midnight train from her grandma's house.

Kir (Key-ur) Niwa

"Come on, we can talk things out right?"

"Guess not. Let's get on with it then."

Age: 18
Appearance: His appearance seems to come mostly from his father albeit with some blatant hints about his mixed heritage. Bright green eyes and rather soft facial features are framed by silvery grey hair. He's easily above average in height at 6'2 (1.88m) and has a solid build, even if he's more of the lean side of things. His skin is of a fair coloration and his body does bear some signs from years of varied swordplay.

Personality: While confident, the way Kir presents himself often makes him unassuming to others; as much as someone with his appearance can be. Soft spoken and content to remain quiet when unnecessary, he is not someone who values the spotlight role in social situations. His sense of right and wrong has been described as more prominent than others, and he won’t hesitate to interfere in the affairs of others.

Perhaps that is a result of his competitive nature when it comes to all things regarding physical prowess. Though he enjoys swordplay in its various forms the most, naturally competing in various tournaments, he does not shy away from other sports and endeavors. Lose or win, it’s the effort and experience that matters most to Kir.

Abilities: Plenty of experience in all manners of physical activities. An innate sense of direction that lets him get used to new locales quickly. The ability to stomach anything edible and some things that probably aren’t.

Cheat: Blade of the Upstart: Time for that sport you’ve been practicing all your life to save your hide! The ability to turn almost anything into a weapon suited for Kir to wield. That stick on the side of the road? That spear the guard was holding just a moment ago? All suitable! There’s also the nifty side effect of naturally picking up on the techniques and expertise of those he studies. Real annoying for them, but awesome for Kir.

History: Privileged! Kir grew up in the lap of luxury with the freedom to choose between many pursuits. Despite his appearance, he chose to devote his time towards the sport of fencing and other similar practices. It was far from relaxing though, despite his apparent natural inclination. His parents allowed him a great deal of freedom to choose, but once the decision had been made pressed him to be the best. Which was fine of course. If he was going to do something, then he’d do it to the best of his ability.

Of course he still went to school, and all the stuff other people did, but without a doubt his “hobby” dominated much of his time. Returning from a casual night out with friends, it’s unfortunate that this midnight train is not bringing him home.

Other: Doesn’t have any trouble falling asleep even under extreme circumstances.
