@Scio Iffy on fully implementing stats for now, but a simpler system would definitely be cool, as much as I love HxH's system. Devolving abilities into spells felt like it'd lessen the...uh...special-ness of the abilities, but if it's something like base abilities then with addition of the possibility to branch out with spells, that could be pretty cool.

I think I share @January and @GreenGoat's concern on stats. Even with a disclaimer that stats are just a general guideline/illustration of someone's capability and not something fully absolute, those statstick people could be concerning. Those statsticks usually are boring to play with anyway, for me.

Though, if it really is implemented in a way where everyone just use it as a general guideline and reference points that still allows for organic and clever combat, that could be pretty nice.

@Baklava@Letter Bee@GreenGoat@January I'm not sure how I'll explain this, but I'll try giving an example.

Fire Manipulation
  • Power - C
  • Constructs - B
  • Range - C
  • Control - D

Fire Manipulation would be their base magic then stats would be how you'd describe what you can do with your ability. The letter grade would just tell everyone else how good are you in a certain aspect of your magic. If I'd use Rhian as an example, maybe I give her the sub-abilities of Control or Size Scaling.

This is just me messing with ideas and doesn't mean that the change in the system is something definite. Personally, I enjoy outplaying your opponents with wit and creativity that just going with a mentality of "My Stats > Your Stats."

Instead of being used for comparing character's capabilities, it would serve as a marker for yourself to know how good you are at something. Then eventually, we can add unto these sub-abilities to make one's magic more unique or diverse?

Oh, if you mean just personal reference stats rather than direct competition stats, go for it--at least, from me, haha.

Sounds good to me.

As others mentionned, I'm not really favorable for "stats" if those would grade your power output compared to others.
Unless you intend to make us fight each other later on in the RP, I don't feel like giving stats to powers is much needed. Also, turning powers into statistics removes a part of what RPing is and turns more into a "game".

But with the example you gave, if it's to scale how efficient your character masters some aspects of their magic. I'm not totally against it. However, I much prefer to go into the abstract side of things.

Yo, is there room for any more? I've been looking at this for a while and I've finally made up my mind to put forward an application.

@Riffus Maximus Yeah, I know what you mean. The example I gave wasn't the best, but I'm still thinking of a way that would make power progression smooth and fair for everyone while still making the capabilities of certain character clear to them.

@Lord of Evil No wonder I felt that I was being watched by something sinister. A bunny.

How can I say no to those eyes? Definitely the Lord of Evil and Master of Schemes.

Welcome to the sheer chaos that happens when you put a bunch of magical teenagers with unresolved personal problems into the same room.

It's great.

@Scio Thinking about it, for some reasons that reminds me of Jojo's Stand stat sheet.

@Scio

I do love character progression. If it would be used as a tool to help RPers with their characters' growing abilities, then I'm all for it.

@Nanashi Ninanai I wish I was familiar with that. I always wanted to check Jojo's out but never really did.

I am ashamed.

@Riffus Maximus Yeah, I was just thinking on how I'd power people up in a way that seemed natural instead of something that seem abrupt or sudden. I'll still think on how to achieve and reach this without stepping one the toes of others.

By the way, due to real life being a butt, @Ayemdar is indefinitely withdrawing from the RP. She will be missed.

@Scio Dang, that's a shame.

Anyway, regarding abilities and development, I wonder how would abilities branch out? Would all developments be closely tied to the base ability and would be a natural progression to the concept in question, or would there be developments and abilities that branch out in a more off-the-side nature? Say, like if the fire-manipulating guy in your example learned to fire lightnings limitedly.

I'm fine with either, just wanting to know what you have in mind about this.

@Baklava Even if she ran back down the mountain, Mount Fuji is really big. Like, have you ever climbed a mountain? Imagine that mountain's fat cousin, and then imagine that fat cousin's dad. That's basically Mount Fuji. It's just not something that can just be traversed that easily. But since GM says it's okay then I guess Layla can totally show up now so should I just get on that?

@Scio But you said people didn't have to answer PMs? You said there was a "choice to discuss" in that PM conversation we had after you invited Zerohex and I to a chat so I assumed that meant it was okay to just not discuss? Why do you seem so mad, anyway?

I mean I don't really want this game to collapse and last time we had a private conversation you were 100% ready to ragequit and Zerohex and I had to spend like an hour and a half talking you down and then you asked us to keep helping you so I thought it was better to avoid private conversations between us entirely since you seem a lot more stable here in the OOC. I really only want to see the game to keep going.

Also, I've actually been curious about this for a while, why are you so fixated on Layla being part of a group, anyway? Isn't it fine as long as she shows up eventually? Come to think of it, couldn't we just send one of those lost people owls over to Layla? Like, she could have just grabbed onto a leg or one could have swooped down and grabbed her pretty easily. Wouldn't that kind of solve everything right there?

@Menhir Even so, it just seems like a silly excuse not to join up. You're in control of when your character arrived at the post office and how long she's been traveling relative to when everyone started walking up the mountain. You're in an ideal position to time skip. Technically, you've been in an ideal position this entire time since nobody else has interacted with Layla yet.

"After hours and hours of traveling, Layla came upon a group of three people."

"After hours and hours of traveling, Layla came upon the school, seeing right away that she was a little late."

This is a pretty basic tool for roleplaying-- not a new concept. I mean, I don't mind if you don't want to join up right away. If that's what you want, then by all means go right ahead. Just say so in a straightforward fashion and don't accuse me of making it so Layla couldn't join them.

This downtime has a silver lining, though, since Scio will have more time to brainstorm potential upgrade systems that still maintain the abstract equilibrium of everyone's play style.

God knows how much I can understand his pain. 8-12 hours of road were frequent for me, and holy damn are you tired when you finally arrive home.
