So the general consensus is, I recently stumbled upon this topic while Googling for a RWBY tabletop to play. With volume 4 recently out I've been beyond hyped with this series again, and figured I'd give it a try.

Now I realize this will require more effort than usual, since it's very unlikely that many people have read up on these rules yet.

Even so, if anyone else wants to do this I'm looking for 4 people to make it work.

In terms of plot, however, I'm not planning on the same kind of school atmosphere as volumes 1 - 3.

Admittedly I don't have the full details worked out yet, but it would take place in the far past, back during the war between the kingdoms before peace was achieved. The four of you would be either mercenaries recently hired by one of the kingdoms as front line fighters, or as actual soldiers fighting for one of the kingdoms. It would also be AU considering that things could be altered and contradict the timeline of the series.

Obviously, keeping in touch with naming conventions, the names would have to be related to colors/referencing some sort of mythical/historical figure. The name of your team, and by extension the RP itself, will be determined by the first letters of your character's names, so let's also all try to find a name combo that works, yeah?

That being said I'm still learning this system too, so I'm sure it'd be a learning experience for everyone involved. But I'm willing to do it if others are.

Anyone on board for this?

Interested, at first glance I'm thinking of a character using strictly a bow for a weapon with heavy usage of dust, reading through the rules and whatnot it looks interesting ^.^

*cracks knuckles* Looks like I have a bit of reading to do.

But seriously, I love RWBY (bit miffed about the degrading style for Volume 4 though) and I'm a newbie to tabletop roleplaying, but I just have to express my interest in this.

I did some roleplaying on Tumblr with a Grimm-raised faunus character and I might work out a way to fit her into this world. Obviously, a lot will be changed, but I would love to bring her into whatever story you might whip up for this world.

tl;dr I'm in!

So, if you're doing it here in the tabletop section, the real question that needs to be asked is what system you intend to use? While you've linked the unofficial RWBY RPG system, I may have something a little more solid of a system to recommend: Big Eyes Small Mouth (3rd edition). For those who do not know of this wonderful little system, BESM is an anime-styled general system that allows for a great deal of flexibility and customization. This is especially vital when it comes to the nature of the weapons and magic that appears in the series. Building most of the characters in the series would be doable with BESM while still maintaining its balance (as long as attribute benchmarks are observed, otherwise you get someone dealing out 50+ damage per hit when the baddies only have 20-ish HP)

Just food for thought.

Eh I'd suggest OVA which is basically a spiritual successor to BESM. Does the same stuff but much faster and simpler.

Of course if you want something complex I'd suggest Anima: Beyond Fantasy because it pretty supports doing all sorts of JRPG and anime concepts so long as you can build it, plus with the expansion book called called Dominus Exxet it gives access to expanded Ki techs which is a form of magic but for fighters and can be used for certain semblances. Also it grants access to a special weapon type which is literally the transforming weapons from the show.
