@Jabber

Alright, sorry for bothering you again...but what about passive skills? Like say, 'Physical Endurance - increases Vit by 1 point for every X amount'? Would that be an acceptable skill, here? Or would that be too...powerful of a skill to start with?

Really shouldn't put interest, but this idea is just way too good.

Hopefully we won't have as many plot holes as SAO...

Cleric or Rogue are my ideas for now. Question is, do I want an Archer Cleric or a Great-Sword Rogue?

Might apply with two chars since once is essentially already done. We'll see tomorrow after midterm.

Welp, I did a thing. I have no idea if the stats are gonna be good for what I want in the future, though. I'm terrible with stat distributions.

I think I got the skills right - three of them, two Rank E abilities and one magic spell. I have no idea if they're acceptable or not...anyways, need to finish the writing sample and the Bio, but this is what I've got so far. I'm willing to change anything that's questionable/that needs to be redone.

I'll finish it later, but I wanted an opinion on the abilities so far.

Before I do any CS reviews, I contemplated on what @Rune_Alchemist had said and considered removing the whole idea of quantifying the stats; we'll only retain HP and MP. Your characters may be able to do anything, but if they decide to specialize in certain fields, they can get stats that would indicate this instead. An example would be a swordsman. They'd probably have stats such as [Strength], [Endurance], or [Swordsmanship]. These would be considered passive stats. Active stats would be spells and abilities; examples would include [War Cry] or [Bash].

Also, I was thinking of foregoing the idea of having predetermined job classes and allow everyone to create their own job class when the time to pick one comes.

Thoughts?

So, I’ll be removing the statistics? That’s confirmed? Gives us a bit more flexibility and trust, but I was cool with either direction. As for your idea to leave job classes up to players, I think that’s cool but we should be wary of making overtly complex professions (sounds better than ‘job class’ to me, but I’m a tabletop vet). But yeah, sounds all good to me.

Also, to reiterate an inquiry— where is the server we’re going to be on centrally located? This may or may not make me change my character’s name. For example, is the server networked as an American, Oceania/Asian, or European one?

Anyway, GM. Character Sheet and OOC maybe since you already have a lot of players? Maybe a Discord server too?

I also support this idea.

@Gowi I just need more feedback from the others since I prefer including those who participate in my RPs in most of the decisions I plan on making. Yeah, we could go with profession. And regarding the possible issues of creating complex ones, I'll regulate them to the best of my abilities since most would still be evaluation here in the OOC or via PM.

The content of the game won't be influenced solely by one culture, but I guess I'm going to say Japanese.

Not too familiar with Discord though.

I am familiar with Discord enough I can setup the server/channel for you if so desired, but that's just an offer.

I know its a text chat and voice server, but why would we need that? That'll probably make the OOC less lively, right?

RPG actually has a public community-ran discord, but I can't say I frequent it a lot. Discord specifically for the RP would be better. Just finished my midterm, grabbed breakfast, time for posts and CS's!

It can. But it could also build community within faster back-and-forth conversation and so forth. No different how older RPs used chatzy and other options to give players a mean of faster delegation and communication.

Hmmmm. If the need for immediate replies to conversations come up, I suppose those involved could just simply create some sort of server or group chat where they could discuss their concerns.

I'm hoping for a large player pool and an active OOC seems to attract the attention that I'm looking for.

I'm willing to accept around twenty, give or take.

I mean, once we have a dedicated bunch of players, I wouldn't mind having a Discord Server. But for now, maybe not yet.

@Jabber
This looks fairly good and I appreciate the decision to remove the quantity part of skills; from someone who's seen a lot of these RPs, that alone can kill it.

However I have a few questions about the plot and the actual story in that will it be like SAO or Log Horizon? SAO, to me, had a primary focus on beating the shit out of monsters in the hopes that they found a way out. Yes they accepted their lives inside the game but they made it their sole purpose to rise through the floors and escape. Log Horizon was more intelligently done in my opinion. Yes, they were trying to figure out what happened but there was more of an acceptance of their lives and instead of throwing themselves at trying to escape, they simply did it but enjoyed their time there.

Overall, my fear is that if we're just time skipping between these big bosses, it will just be your run of the mill SAO RP instead of having some focus on the lives of these people.

For example, one of my most favourite parts of any anime is how in Log Horizon when they finally figure out how to make food right, it's one of the great victories of the plot and they unite people with that alone. It's so mundane and silly but it was brilliant. While in SAO, it was sort of just beating bosses and getting more bitches.

I guess that also ties into the professions and my hopes that they'll play a bigger role than just a few extra skills. Yes, there should be a limit on them because LH had a stupid amount of them but I'd really appreciate a focus on the human nature of being stuck in the game with opposing factions battling for political power and people using their professions to rebuild the world. That, to me, would be cool.

But as I often say, I'm a potato and I know jack shit about anything! :3

Also sorry for the Log Horizon master-race rant!

Well, If we use Discord I likely won't frequent it unless I have to. Not a fan of chat rooms, to be honest.

Anyways, I'll get to finishing my character. Removing stats is a huge load off my mind.
