It can be a fandom setting, or an original one.

I had this idea for something like American folk fantasy. Imagine pioneering era, except with the very real existence of magic, monsters, and all manner of unnaturalities. It would draw heavily on american folk lore, and native mythology. Human pioneers would contest with sasquatches, wendigos, wild spirits of the plain and such.

That's my stupid idea. You guys have anything that's been niggling at the back of your mind that you don't feel you're ready to run, or that you simply can't?

I really want to get into Warhammer 40k because I love super-edgy grimdark shit like that, but the amount of lore I'd need to know is a huge learning curve. More like a learning wall, really.

I'm all soft and slime when it comes to actually sliding forth lore and lyrics about an idea but, motherfucking. logistics of handling groups is more of a task for me than a prisoner who's trying to tackle tutor turn over rate with reports in arabic and a medium to the outside world who's primary method bargaining is farting loudly and yelling at people ghost hunting trivia.

That and, motherfucking. I really like stat and game rules in my dorrito deterrent but balancing that shit to be appealing can is harder than a gym teachers ass cheeks.

Not so much a setting but more of a role/character I kinda want to play out of curiosity which is being someone in harem/reserver harem in an anime RP. Dunno why, always just seemed interesting to me to try and do that.

For us, it is not a lack of skill, but a lack of interested players (and in addition right now, excess RP energy).

We've got a few half-finished concepts for some Stargate-themed RPs. One of those would be fun to run sometime.

@Ellri, there was a Stargate RP a while back. With that said, I'd love to see one starting right now.

Pretty much this.

All the ideas that I can't do just stems from my inability to find people who want to participate in said idea. I usually end up overhauling my concept to the point it doesn't even resemble what it was suppose to be.

A post apocalyptic pokemon setting. Pretty much a world ruled by team rocket but more into the mature, violent, drug scene with pit fighting and criminal activity.

Why wont it work? Because so msny people have preconceived ideas for how it'll play out ("How many moves do we have?", "Is battle turn based?", etc.). Players either cant let go of the game mechanic, or wanna add some random things like fakemon (fan created content).

The same happened with a Borderlands roleplay where players were creating state based weapons, or abilities that made no sense.

I don't think it's a matter of my skill level, as I fell confident with the worlds I can design, but it's the player draw that I seem to have issues with.

Stargate alliances generally doesn't pan out in the long run, @gcold. We tried it earlier. The guy behind it (we know him) has a bit of a shiny problem. Not as bad as some others, but still a bit too much of one. Doing one like that needs a lot of planning.

The more years pass since the last produced stargate content, the harder it gets to find sufficient players.

Same thing also happens when the story has evolved into something else over the course of the series. Again I'll give Pokemon as an example but a Pokemon RP from 5 years ago will have different expectations to one that is from today (ie: Mega evolutions)

Sometimes it almost seems like roleplaying themes and stories are decided based on the hot topic at the moment. Starting up a Star Wars RP will be easier this year then 5 years ago before the latest Force Awakens movie and upcoming Rogue One.

Star Wars RPs have always been popular, simply because of nerds + the Extended Universe. But they do come and go in cycles. The rare thing for them is ones that last.

Quality, non-1x1 vampire RPs are definitely operating on an RNG cycle.

I'd like to make an MMO rpg roleplay with all the players stuck in the game not unlike SAO except with there being a diverse map, a cast of different races like WOW, and some unique skills for each class. Too bad I just don't have the energy for that.

I wanted to do a setting inspired by around the 1600s-1800s eras. It would be first set up as a parlor, where many people would be invited to talk and share their views, during a time of revolution against their government. The group would participate together in many revolts and attacks, but would later compete to hold their own offices when they overtake the government.

I need motivation to make a plot and side characters along with some good ideas on bringing in conflict. I would also need an active group that would fit the role play's standard.

At the moment, those heights seem very hard to reach.

Literally anything ever since I'm an awful GM. I would probably find open-world settings to be the most difficult, though. Roleplays are always a pain to move along when everyone is separated and doing something entirely different than what you want them to be doing.

On my end, I relate to the people who've said it's not a matter of them lacking the 'skill' to pull it off, but I actually don't know if I relate to them on the idea of people not actually having an interest in the role-plays I could present. In the past, any idea I brought up seemed to get a fair amount of interest, but I honestly don't really have the time on my hands to even role-play much as a player currently let alone be a GM. It's definitely a matter of having not enough time as opposed to not having the 'skill'.

With that said, I've been considering putting up a list of all the possible role-plays I've been thinking of hosting on this site, since there's more than ten of them (not even counting role-play using the setting of my 'Guardian Ascension' main story project) at this point, especially since I find myself building an entire cast/setting/plotline around every new character I create for someone else's role-play. This list grows too since I'm not able to put a plug on my inspiration, and it also doesn't include any fandom role-plays I might want to try since I generally prefer not to do those (again, not due to a lack of ability to do so). Perhaps if I can get a gauge of which ones garner the most intrigue it would allow me to consider if I have enough time to open any of them, since I'm truly more of a GM at heart rather than a player -- blame the fact that I'm a writer before a role-player I guess.

Another problem is I often - though not always - work with very complex projects, many of which required entire forums/sites to run as opposed to a single thread. This is definitely the case with 'Guardian Ascension' -- I don't think anyone on this site could ever convince me that I could run that project as a role-play on this site through a single thread unless I was working with a very contained 'arc'.

There's a few role-plays on this site that looked interesting to some extent, but none of them that I felt I was interested enough in to devote myself to with my busy schedule working on my project.

I would love to try and do a game about labor activists, and this conflict between a group of unionizers and an organization like the Pinkertons, where they try and break up the strike.

That, and a pet universe I've been slowly building and rebuilding for the past several years. I'm not sure if I'll ever be happy enough to release it to the world, though.

I always wanted to do a setting in a near-future Earth in the nation roleplay section where I would play as the humans. Everyone else would play as the aliens and would react to the first contact with humans. But since the section is basically dying and most of the roleplays last only a couple weeks, it will stay at my testing thread for awhile. And I also wanted to roleplay with my character that was originally apart of this roleplay. It sadly died before the IC could of began and I really wanted to play her. Here's the sheet, if you want to read it:

Something set on mid 1600-1800's ships has always been an interest to me. I even have a pirate roleplay concept on the far-back burner.

Problem is I don't know a bloody thing about ships. With me as GM any ship would sink rather quickly.

Although I have minimal experience roleplaying and virtually none GMing, I do have ideas now and again that I'd like to see made. Because of lack of time, lack of a capable computer to play it, and aversion to early access games in all their forms, I haven't actually gotten Ark Survival Evolved for myself. But I have to admit that I'm drawn to the blatantly anachronistic concept meant to appease the ten year old in me, successfully it turns out. Plus it's science fiction with dinosaurs that's far enough away from Fox's grasp to not get canned, so it really did look right up my alley.

Preferably, it would be an ongoing series of RPs, the first ones focused less on the highly advanced end of the technology scale (as seen in the upcoming "Tek Tier" updates) and involving more rustic societies and perhaps civilizations that could potentially span numerous Arks. While one Ark could have it's own map like the "Island" or the "Center", I would also see to the creation of a map graphing a network of Arks, like a web that would keep track of governments on a grander scale. The setting could start small with just one Ark, but could eventually grow to as large as it needs to.

I could go on, but the point would ultimately come down to me not really having the time or skill to pull it off. I suppose it isn't impossible, however. But then the issue becomes: Do I really want to exert all that effort and expend all that time on an RP, just to see it go to waste because of lack of dedication on the part of others? Everything you guys already mentioned could also apply. I'm not suited to watching ideas I care about come to naught. I imagine it's an attitude like that that really limits what I could do in the end.

Still, I would like to do something to spend all this interest I have in an RP about ASE. Something that will be open to anyone should they want to make an RP with a dedicated group of players. At least that way it'll get made. It'll probably be stats for all the creatures or something to that effect. But I think, in the interest of not derailing the thread, it would be best for me to start a new topic so I could hear some pointers. Thanks for listening this far anyway.

This is one of the best ideas I've heard.
