I'm not sure if I'm reading this wrong, but based on the context and grammar, I'm not sure if she's implying that she already woke the council or not. I was going to have Geno ask if we are said council but everything else she talked about there is in past tense. I'm sure if we were roleplaying verbally it would be easer to ascertain, like it would be for our characters talking to her right now.

@Light You're right, my apologies for not making it clear. Thanks for pointing out the mistake, I wouldn't have noticed it otherwise. I don't like the excuse that I wrote it late at night and it affected my writing, but that probably didn't help. I'll fix it.

@RyuShura that wasn't really my concern. Verbally, what the Caretaker said made sense. But as a reader, I very obviously can't hear her inflection or tone. That's where my question comes in.

Oh, I see, then let me offer up an explanation. As you said, what she has described in that excerpt is mostly in past tense, that much should be enough, I thought. Another detail that I think was overlooked a bit, is in how she says she cannot act on her own, even in the case of what can be assumed extreme danger to Eden, and must seek new orders from the council before anything else. With this, and since it seems to hold this 'Oracle' above herself, even though she is such an important figure in how things aboard Eden operate, it can be safe to assume that this person is part of this 'council'. Of course, not all people would care have this kind of rigged, deductive thinking, as this is still casual, so I can't expect anyone to want to dig this deep into dialogue. In the vein of the Souls series, I allowed it very much to be up to how anyone may interpret these things.

TLDR; I over-complicate things too much. Whether your character may misinterpret this information is fully up to you.

I believe what the question was and the answer to it is, No, our characters are NOT the counsel.

@RyuShura so my follow up question would be, is it within the realm of reasonability that Geno could think that the Caretaker is trying to say that we are the council?

@Light If Geno is the type of character who would value his own perception above what is told to him, then most certainly. The Caretaker has been quite vague anyway, so some things can be constrewed. He might think that he is part of the council given what he has seen, such as how many others are still sleeping and her politeness towards them thus far. In the end, what your character does and how they develop is up to you.

No it's great! Don't apologize! I just thought, when someone is born in reality they have no memories or anything so their feelings they've adapted based on their memories are fresh. A child born will cling to their mother because it is first the initial person they see and second because that's the person who has taken care of them and will continue to. I figured, this girl just woke up out of a capsule with no memory but for her name and here comes this creature that lured her awake, took care of them while they slumbered and is now speaking to them about their roles. I would think naturally someone with experiences and developed emotions would be hesitant to trust someone, but someone with no memory and no remembered emotional experiences other then the voice waking them up would cling to that voice..
