"Music can soothe even the coldest of hearts. That's what I think, anyway."
Name: Katherine "Kat" Wesson
Age: 16
Appearance:
Katherine Wesson (though she always goes by Kat) stands at 5"3 with long, dark brown hair that goes down to her lower back. Her eyes are a warm shade of brown, almost like hot chocolate. She's very small, with a thin frame. Her fingernails are painted a light pink, though they're chipped at the tips. Her hair always seems to be a bit messy, as if perpetually tossed by the wind. Strapped to Kat's back is a guitar case which holds her prized possession: an acoustic guitar that she takes everywhere she goes. While it's heavy, she never complains, as she is extremely attached to it.
Kat is a very calm, laid-back person. She takes everything in stride, and rarely becomes angry. She seems to be perpetually relaxed, almost to a fault, as it can appear that she doesn't take dire situations seriously. This is less due to apathy, and more because she believes that things will work out as they must. Even when discouraged, she clings to her faith that everything is as it should be. She is a strong believer in fate and destiny. At the same time, almost paradoxically, she is very free-spirited and independent. Kat is a loyal friend, and one that anybody would be glad to have. While she is competitive, she can also take a loss well, choosing to learn from it rather than become bitter.
Kat has two passions in life: Pokémon and music. The guitar strapped on her back is one of the most important things in the world to her; it is second only to her best friend, a female Eevee named Aria. The two are practically inseparable, to the point of where they get anxious if the other isn't around. As such, Aria prefers to walk alongside Kat rather than stay in a Pokeball. The two take care of each other, in that while Kat provides personal care for her Pokemon, Aria protects her trainer. The two trust each other greatly, as they have been together for years.
Kat's music is a great source of pride for her. She takes her guitar everywhere with her, despite the fact that it gets heavy after a while. She never seems to complain about the weight, though. Whenever Kat has a bit of spare time, she'll bring the guitar over her shoulder and play it for a while, usually singing along as well. Her voice has a soft, sweet sort of sound that matches her guitar. However, she's a bit shy when it comes to playing in front of people she doesn't know very well. But Kat is always willing to play for Aria, and the little Eevee will occasionally hum along in a high-pitched tone.
Katherine Wesson grew up in the Hoenn Region, though her mother comes from Alola. She grew up in Slateport City, and as such, she grew up near both contests and battling alike. Living just down the street from a Battle Tent and a Contest Hall, she became fascinated with both from a young age. Her parents, both being captains that worked in the Slateport Harbor, gave Kat a sense of familiarity with the ocean as well. She was raised in a good environment, as her parents were both very loving. Being captains of their own separate ships, Kat's parents were both pretty well off by the time she was born.
However, both of Kat's parents were gone a lot during her childhood due to their occupations, as they had to travel frequently. Kat became pretty well acquainted with several family friends that would watch her while her parents were gone. Even when one parent was home, the other was usually gone. It was understandably lonely for her, but thankfully, she had Aria with her. Aria herself was a keepsake of sorts for Kat's mother, as she caught the Eevee shortly before she left Alola for Hoenn. While the Eevee technically belonged to Kat's mother, she was always Kat's Pokemon. Because Kat has had Aria since she was born, the two are extremely close.
It was a friend of her parents that taught Katherine to play the guitar. She started when she was just nine years old, and as such has gotten very good at it over time. It was music that comforted Katherine when she was missing her parents, and she has remained dedicated to becoming better with her guitar as a result. But music certainly wasn't her only interest; at around the age of eleven, Kat started watching the battles that would regularly be held in the Battle Tent. It was the sight of trainers working in harmony with their Pokemon that inspired Kat to become a trainer herself.
Years later, when Kat was fifteen, her parents were able to stay home more often, as they now sailed around the Hoenn Region rather than sailing out to other regions. It was around this time that she announced her decision to become a trainer and set out on a journey of her own. Even she herself found the decision to be strange; she spent a great deal of her life missing her parents, and now she planned on leaving them? But her parents were very supportive, as they'd both been trainers when they were her age. It was how they'd met, in fact; so, on her sixteenth birthday, their birthday present to her was a free ride out to the Alola Region, with enough supplies to keep her on her journey.
She'd chosen the Alola Region because she'd heard of the League that had recently been created by the region's Professor. Kat decided it was as good a place as any. So, with her parents at the helm, she sailed off to Alola with Aria at her side. She arrived at the Melemele Ferry Terminal with a bag, her guitar, and her Eevee, ready to begin the next chapter of her life. After bidding her parents a bittersweet goodbye, she received a letter from Professor Kukui himself, inviting her to a festival the next evening. Deciding a festival would be a good way to start, she headed off, eager to start her adventure.
Moveset: Bite, Quick Attack, Sand Attack, Swift
Ability: Adaptability
Species: Eevee
Nickname: Aria
Gender: Female
Personality: Aria is very sweet and friendly, and gets along well with other Pokemon. She is very attached to-and protective of-Katherine.
Appearance: Sierra stands 5'11", with long blonde hair and blue eyes. She usually wears her hair down, kept in place with a headband that wraps around the back to form a bow.
Her outfit usually conforms to colder weather, as she spent a lot of time around the Ice Path. However, in preparation for Alola, she has shed the heavy sweaters for the tank tops she usually wore underneath, usually pastel colors. They would be combined with a pair of black or white shorts, depending on the color. She is looking forward to adding to her wardrobe while on the islands.
Personality/Motivation: Sierra is a contrarian. Growing up back home, she was expected to follow the path over everyone else, and she rejected it in favor of something different. Even if it doesn't work out, she won't abandon a path she's started. That's why even when her first ticket to Alola was for a boat that had been discontinued, she kept working until she got a ticket for one that was in operation.
That being said, she does trust some people, but they really have to earn it. Otherwise she remains cold and distant. Avoid stereotypes, too. She doesn't appreciate being considered a dumb blonde.
History: Sierra was born in Blackthorn City, Johto, to a family who were a part of the clan that surrounded the dragon shrine the city was known for. She was the youngest of five kids, three older sisters and one older brother, and they treated her as such. All the hand-me-downs, all the last picks at dinner, all the keep-aways. It sucked.
The youngest Shilton didn't even want a Pokemon at first. It would just be another thing her family held over her. All with strong Dratini or Seadra, so she decided not to follow them into the Dragon's Den. She didn't want to be a trainer.
That only served to further isolate herself from her family as the elder Shiltons all but disowned the supposed black sheep. remained in her room most of the time, reading and researching on her computer for her education, until one day she was talking to a friend in Unova who she usually confided in, and they asked a simple question:
"Why resign yourself to avoiding your family's shadow when you can eclipse them?"
She knew what she had to do.
Sierra went to the Ice Cave to the north of Blackthorn and went looking for the kind of Pokemon that would take her family down a peg, and she found one. A Swinub that appeared relatively frisky compared to the others. Definitely liked her snacks. She caught it and brought it home, intent on challenging her way through the family.
The fourth oldest, Stacy, wiped the floor with Sierra's Swinub. Seadra had a field day.
Disgraced, Sierra left Blackthorn for Olivine, intent on heading for Unova, until the recently changed immigration laws made things difficult. She instead headed for Alola, intent on changing her fortune when it came to Pokemon.
Current Team:
Swinub (Romano)
Ability: Snow Cloak / Hidden Ability: Thick Fat
Moveset: Powder Snow / Tackle / Mud Sport / Ancient Power (Egg Move)
Romano was caught one floor down in the Ice Path outside Blackthorn. He's a very laid-back Pokemon, preferring to wait out what Sierra or others are doing before acting, but once he acts, he goes all out, much like his trainer. The Pokemon also enjoys meal time a great deal, attacking whatever food is placed in front of him with gusto. He's yet to find food he doesn't like.
@AbysmalDemon Sooooo... Is this gonna get of the ground? I was super hyped for it, but it feels a little... I dunno. Sleepy. I understand with the holidays and all though, so I figured now that we got those behind us, I'd ask.
I've included a Notes section at the end of the character sheet to help detail my character a bit more. Let me know if you'd like me to change anything. For those not in the know, this character comes from a region I wrote for a Pokémon RP of my own a couple of years ago (which never really got off the ground). Our GM has approved my use of the concept, though I've updated a few things from the original thread.
Name: Kazurai Tachimazu Age: 19
Appearance: Kazurai stands at 5 feet 11; he has a well-built physique from nine years of training in fitness and martial arts. Short black hair and brown eyes help complete the picture. Most of his clothing is simple and lightweight: plain shirts, an electric-blue and silver jacket, long pants, and running shoes. Most of his smaller day-to-day equipment, including Pokémon-related items, is stowed in a satchel, which Kazurai wears over one shoulder across himself. The rest of his personal possessions are all in a large backpacker's pack. A set of five empty catches is attached to the satchel's strap, designed to hold Poké Balls.
Lastly, Kazurai wears three accessories of note: a one-inch-long gold and silver pin in the shape of a sword, worn on the left side of his jacket; and two pendants. The first has a feather from a Torchic's crest in a silver setting, while the second is a slightly worn wooden pendant depicting the Tachimazu family emblem, shown below (the same emblem is sewn into the back of his jacket):
Personality/Motivation: Kazurai is a practical, down-to-earth individual who values time management, getting things done, and the wellbeing of Pokémon in his care. He will stand up to a challenge when confronted with one: if his first attempt is not successful, he will immediately take time to study the situation and develop a plan of attack for a second attempt. In battle, he will use his knowledge of type advantages and move speeds to get ahead of his opponents. Knowledge, however, only gets you so far. Kazurai is more familiar with drills and training than the less predictable nature of battles.
A personal habit of Kazurai's is that if he believes he has not gotten enough exercise during the day, he will make time in the evening to maintain his usual training regime. If he can't, he considers the day wasted and must put in extra effort the next day to make up for it.
The main reasons Kazurai has travelled to Alola are twofold: first, to improve his own capabilities as a Warrior; and second, to pass time while waiting for the Pokémon League of his home region to complete preparations and open the doors to challengers. The best way to do both, he reasons, is to challenge another region's League - regardless of the form it takes.
History: Kazurai hails from the Kingdom of Platinos, in the Sengun region. Sengun is a large island landmass, home to ten Kingdoms that divide the land among themselves. Platinos is a reasonably large Kingdom situated near the center of the island, and Steel and Electric Pokémon make their homes in the Kingdom's territory.
Sengun is also home to a somewhat unique type of Trainer: Warriors, individuals who fight alongside their Pokémon and form special bonds called Links as an equivalent to using Poké Balls. The Tachimazu family are Warriors one and all thanks to their lineage originating from ancient Warlords, and Kazurai is no exception. The son of two Warrior parents - his mother from Platinos and his father from its neighbouring Kingdom Challena - Kazurai was quickly confirmed as a Warrior himself, inheriting traits from both sides of the family.
The young Warrior, oldest of three children, grew up in a household that kept him busy: from age ten he was enrolled in Platinos's Steel Mind Dojo to learn martial arts and train in fitness. Between schoolwork, training, and helping around the house, Kazurai was occupied and active. At the traditional age of fourteen, Kazurai determined which types of Pokémon his abilities favoured: through encounters with Pokémon of many types, he found himself most in tune with the Fighting and Electric Pokémon he met, able to befriend them quickly. It was then that he was deemed ready to begin raising his own Pokémon and unlock his true potential as a Warrior.
Kazurai, however, originally chose not to do so. He had more to learn. There was no sense in leaving his studies unfinished: experience would come later when he believed himself prepared. His parents, however, wished him to form a Link with a Pokémon of his own. So he travelled to the neighbouring Kingdom of Regala, where Professors Acer and Holly Ilex offered him the choice of six: three Pokémon unique to Sengun, and three that could be found in other regions. Kazurai found himself spending a little time with the Chikoritas, Torchics, and Oshawotts that the Professors provided.
Eventually, one of the newly-hatched Torchics that didn't shy away from Kazurai considered him friendly, and the Warrior remembered his training. Steady the breath, reach out with your thoughts, stay calm and collected. The Torchic blinked, her expression changing to a wary look. Kazurai held her gaze evenly for a few seconds. Then his senses opened up, and he felt a rush of energy flow through him. Or at least, that was the best way he could describe it. Regardless, he knew that the young Torchic had accepted, the Link was formed, and the two would be partners. Happy with his choice - and with hers - Kazurai named his new partner Kei, and they returned home to Platinos.
Over the next five years the two would develop their bond further, and learn how a Warrior and Pokémon fought side by side through sparring matches. Only when Kazurai had completed his training at the Steel Mind Dojo did he believe himself and Kei ready to venture out into the greater Sengun region, to unlock his second inherited talent: Warrior Skills. The best way to do that was to take on the Pokémon League Challenge: travel to each of the Ten Kingdoms in order to face Gym Leaders and earn the title of Champion.
Sengun's Pokémon League, however, was still incomplete. The Gyms were ready, but Victory Tower and the League Headquarters at its peak were still under construction. By royal decree from Regala's King Paros, the Gyms will not reopen their doors until Victory Tower is complete and an Elite Four chosen to serve as the final test - against would-be Champions and each other. And the construction team was only about a quarter of the way towards completing the Tower's external structure, let alone the League HQ at the top... or all manner of environments and interiors within.
With the Gyms closed off, Kazurai was stumped. All that training, all the studies and preparation. With no knowledge of when the League would be properly ready - and no chance of being chosen as one of the Elite Four with just Kei by his side - he had no way to properly challenge himself as a Trainer. At least, no way in Sengun. Other regions have Leagues of their own, he reasoned. Why not challenge one of them to pass the time until the Sengun League was ready? To that end, he did a little research on the Pokémon Leagues of other regions. It was there he discovered Alola, and its different approach to the system: the island challenge. Trainers took the challenge to visit all four islands of Alola, facing all manner of challenges. What was equally intriguing to Kazurai was the depiction of a Raichu and several other Pokémon in the promotional artwork. Perhaps they were alternate forms?
There was a ship leaving from Mystriver in a few weeks - sadly, no flights. Kazurai knew his goal. So he packed a bag of supplies and a second one for travel gear, and with Kei by his side he set out. On the ship to Alola, he has begun researching the region and the Pokémon therein. He knows, however, that as a visitor to Alola, he could also be considered an ambassador for Sengun: he intends to avoid any action that would dishonour himself and his home.
Current Team: Kazurai has one Pokémon partner, a Torchic named Kei.
Kazurai and Kei have formed a Link (see Notes below), and the two are practically inseparable as a result... even if Kei can be a handful at times due to her young age. They train together to maintain their fighting skills and ability to coordinate in battle.
Additional Information:
Warrior of Sengun: Kazurai may be a Trainer, but is a Warrior first and foremost. He has several years' training in self-defensive martial arts, a solid education in both Pokémon- and non-Pokémon-related subjects, and rudimentary experience in the general skills needed for travelling Trainers: things like cooking, wilderness survival, and setting up a camp for the night.
In addition, Kazurai has inherited the skills and abilities of Sengun's Warriors. This grants him two skills, the centerpieces of Warrior culture: • First, the ability to form a special bond with a Pokémon called a Link. If the Pokémon is willing, the Link connects the Warrior and the Pokémon in a similar manner to a Poké Ball, without the need for the Ball itself. The two become partners, each learning from the other. • Second, the power of Warrior Skills. Warriors use these in battle to provide a boost to their Pokémon. Once a Warrior unlocks their power - how this is done depends on the individual - they gain a Warrior Skill, begin learning to use it, and can learn more Skills from those who are willing to teach them. This power does have its drawbacks, however. Warrior Skills require intense focus and strength of will. Using a Warrior Skill drains a significant portion of your mental reserves, even in the strongest, so a Warrior can only use a Warrior Skill once per battle.
Kazurai knows he has a Warrior's abilities, having formed a Link, but has yet to unlock his ability to use Warrior Skills. Despite this, he still wears the pin so that other Warriors will recognise him as one of their own. Kazurai has also inherited his family's affinity for Pokémon of the Electric and Fighting types: he finds Pokémon of those types much easier to interact with than others, but as a result, it is difficult for him to approach Psychic or Ground-type Pokémon.
Inventory: Kazurai carries the following possessions: • A week's worth of clothing and other personal items • Two journals, and a pen to go with them. One is full of notes and its cover features a sword emblem identical to the pin Kazurai wears on his jacket. The other is plain and partially filled. • A bedroll, compact one-person tent, cooking gear, and a first-aid kit for human injuries • A pack of ingredients to produce ponigiri, a traditional Sengun dish for both human and Pokémon consumption. Ponigiri are primarily composed of plain rice, but include secondary ingredients for added nutritional and restorative value. Diced Berries, when properly prepared, are a common component. The pack has limited supplies, but Kazurai can purchase more ingredients from any store that stocks basic food staples. • Two cases of food specifically for Pokémon • A standard-issue silver PokéLink, with an engraving of the Tachimazu emblem on the back. The PokéLink is a smartphone-esque device commonly used in Sengun. It has pre-installed apps for phone and video calls, browsing the internet, synchronising with a Pokédex, using TMs to teach moves to Pokémon, and assessing the health and fitness of any Pokémon accompanying the user. • A small amount of cash for minor expenses • - Debit card linked to Kazurai's personal Sengun-based bank account
All characters accepted, please move them to the CS page.
@Sunbather Sorry for the slow pace it's at right now, I've been having family issues at home, but expect my CS up tonight, and the IC also later tonight or early tomorrow.
@AbysmalDemon Still alive and interested, sorry for the delay but finally I'm done!
Name: Mathew delta Age: 16
Appearance: A chubby young man with curly brown hair covering his ears, and threatening to cover his wide brown eyes, Mathew always aims to look his very best. Normally this means wearing open shirts with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows atop a t-shit (usually a concert one), a pair of fashionable shorts held up by a strip of fabric tied around his waist, fashionable white red shoes and finally an equally red and fashionable backpack.
For contests Mathew dons a white shirt and deep violet waistcoat with trousers in a slightly bluer shade. However, depending on the show the outfit may see some alterations or changes. His hair also gets tamed and swept to the side.
Personality/Motivation: Mathew wants to experience as much as he can just so he can say “Been there, done that, got the t-shirt” and then move onto the next interesting thing to catch his attention. Speaking of attention, Mathew adores being in the centre of it which is probably why he adores contests so much; the chance to perform in front of hundreds of adoring fans and show the world what you got!
The best to describe Mathew is that he’s always on the move, never a moment does he sit still long enough to spot the roses let alone smell them. Despite his impatience and hot-headedness Mathew does manage to get some work done albeit not up to standard one would hope for. Additionally he is a very big fan of rock bands and owns a big collection of concert t-shirts.
History: Floraroma Town: a small little town famous for its meadows of wild flowers, and the yearly festival celebrating them also. Mathew spent most of his days around the local Contest hall, a staple for any large town in Sinnoh, where his grandmother worked tirelessly throughout the year. When he was young Mathew would simply follow his grandmother around as she hurried (or hobbled) around making sure everything was in place for not only the smaller local contests held throughout the year but also for the big region wide ones that would use the venue. As he got older Mathew began to take on more and more responsibilities to help his grandmother like scheduling acts, selling tickets and just keeping the place running in general.
Mathew adored seeing the different acts perform. While he enjoyed seeing Pokémon battles at the local battle grounds those that were performed at contest hall were on entirely different level; having to not only defeat the opponent but also execute each move with a certain level of style and grace. Soon enough it became a habit of Mathews to ask the coordinators detailed questions about their acts whenever he could, and then cheekily asking his Grandmother if he could try out a few with her Floatzel.
While Floatzel was happy to oblige most of the time as they were old and sadly, simply could do all the extravagant tricks Mathew wanted to try. As luck would have it though his parents had been considering getting Mathew his own Pokémon. Both his parents had been trainers in their youth so Mathew had grown up and learned to get along with Pokémon from an early age. But of course, borrowing the Pokémon of your parents and grandmother is very different to owning your own. Mathew even spent many nights deliberating with his parents upon what Pokémon he wanted (An Eevee was an audience favourite as well as it’s evolutions, although a Buneary did have it’s charms also) but in the end it was a Shinx Mathew ended up catching, with the help of his Mother.
Now with a Pokémon at his side the next step for Mathew was to decide upon where he should start his journey. Again, Mathew spent many nights deliberating with not only his parents but new partner as well to earn Speckles’ trust. In the end, it was his Grandmother who suggested Alola to be his first stop. Not only was the region a great tourist destination but in addition to the newly opened league there were rumours of a few small contests being held locally on each island. Mathew didn’t need any more convincing with the idea of exploring what was, to him at least, an entirely new region.
A week later his passport arrived in the post and he was out the door the next day.
Speckles the Shinx Ability: Intimidate Hidden Ability: Guts Moveset: Bite, Spark, Leer, Charge Personality: A jolly little gal who is somewhat bemused by her trainer and would rather he took battling more seriously, though she does enjoy some of the tricks and dance moves they’ve been practicing.
