"Alola young trainer! My name is professor Kuiki! I am the Alola Regions Pokemon professor. I am sending this letter invite you to a big festival as a welcome to the Alola Region, and to meet the Kahuna of Melemele Island tomorrow night at 5:00 PM. He is eager to meet you, and to go about explaining about this vast tropical region. So come and enjoy the lights, the food, the festivities, and to meet some of the many new friends along your journey. See you tomorrow night!
Alola, Professor Kukui
Alola. A region of rich culture, deep history, amazing sites and sounds, is a wonderful region and tourist attraction, that even rivals that of Kalos' great number of tourists each year. While it is smooth sailing for most, some literally, for young children in Alola, looking to complete the trials, it is a rigorous journey, filled with fun, new friendships, struggles and hardships, that only the best can overcome. Each day, new Pokemon trainers from around the world come to Alola to complete these trials, and prove that they are the very best that no one ever was. The regions goal is to get trainers bring out the best in themselves, and their Pokemon. While for some it is a resort, and a place to relax, for others it is a rigorous journey, marking their beginning into a whole new world.
But deep, off past the shallows of Alola, trouble is brewing. A dark organization is planning to rebuild the Aether foundation, and rebirth them from the ashes. The ruins of the Aether Paradise remains, barely floating in the ocean, each day sinking further and further into the abyss, a hollow shell of what it once was. But all their records, their research, their information still remain, enough for someone to bring them back to the corrupt glory they once were. Lusamine and the others are no where to be found, it being rumored that they left the region, but others believe they are being held somewhere questioned about the Ultra Demension. Whatever the people believe, it is clear that the Aether Foundation doesn't plan to be gone for much longer.
So! Come now, for your grand journey throughout this tropical region! Prepare for the fun, the rigorous training, and the hardships you will have to work through! Welcome...
To The Alola Region
OOC/Mechanics & Info
You will be trainers from all over different regions, who have recently traveled to Alola. There are many paths you can choose, Island Trials, Contests, Photograpgy, Anyrhing you can think of the somehow related to Pokemon you can be! Trainers should be in their mid teens (14-17 I would say). The rest of what happens is up to you. While this has combat in it, it's not necessarily revolved around it. It's more about choosing the path you want to take, and forming bonds with your Pokemon!
For those of you who don't know, Z-Crystals are powerful mysterious stones that can be given to a Pokemon to hold to unleash a powerful move once in battle.
• When will Z-Crystals be obtainable? The very first Z-Crystal you get will be after the completion of your first trial, or by ranking 1-3 in contests, for those of you who want to take that route. You can also get Z-Crystals from NPC quests that me and the GMs will throw at you every now and then. *NOTE: Not every NPC quest with give you a Z-Crystal. Only some will.
• Can our Pokemon use Z-Moves more than once? No, like stated above, and in the game, Z-Moves can only be used once in battle, just like mega evolution.
• What Z-Moves will be available? Well of course, all of the 18 type-specific Z-Moves will be available, as well as the other specialty ones such as Z-Destiny Knot, Z-Splash, Catastropika, and more.
Mega Evolution in Pokemon Sun and Moon, doesn't come until post game, but for the sake of time, it will come around mid-game in this RP. Mega Stones are extremely rare, and can only be found randomly in an appropriate setting, this being done by the GMs, or, by completing a [Tier I] Quest. *See Quests for more info
• What are some Mega-Evolution restrictions? As in game, there can only be one mega evolution per contestant in a battle. Also, Mega Evolved Pokemon can't use a Z-Move, as it can only hold one item.
• When can I mega evolve? Well, unlike the games, and more like the anime, you will need a strong bond with the Pokemon you want to mega evolve. And by strong, I mean strong. 'Oh yeah, I caught you a year ago, and like, I really don't train or battle with you, or really put much effort into you, but hey, hold this stone and let's kick some ass...' Isn't gonna cut it. No matter how long you've had the Pokemon, having it stored in a PC box, or keeping it in your party while not getting much training done with it, isn't going to work.
• Where do I get Mega Stones and Key Stones/Mega Bracelet? The Key Stone and Mega Bracelet will be given to you by the professor mid-game. You can revive mega stones before that but you will not be able to use them. Mega Stones can be given to you like Z-Crystals, from NPC quests and after completing key parts of the story.
• Will all the Mega Evolutions be allowed/implemented? No. The only one that will not be implemented is Rayquaza. Primal Reversions will also not be implemented. But, as a Suprise, you will be able to make your own mega evolutions, that are not in the games.
Pokemon: Image: Preferably in a hider Stat Lowered: I'm not playing this with super battle mechanics, but I don't want a steel/ice type Beartic or something, a big tank, and have its speed be normal Beartic speed. Have it make sense. If the picture and typing can have all stats remain the same then it can. Stat Increased: Same as above. If the picture and typing can have all stats remain the same, it can. Ability: Abilities however, will play major part in battles. If custom ability (not from the games) please give a description. Also have it make sense with the image, Pokemon, and typing. I don't want a mega ice/flying Crobat with flame body.
• Are shiny Pokemon available through normal methods? Short answer. Yes. Long answer; Like always shiny Pokemon are available through random chance. In this RP, the chance of wildly encountering a wild Pokemon as a shiny, is 1 in 75! It's pretty low, but I'm not using your grandmas number generator. The chance of getting a shiny while fishing is 1 in 60 with the best being 1 in 45 if you continuously fish the same Pokemon. The chance of hatching a shiny from and egg, is 1 in 45, with the highest chance being 1 ik 25 which is only if you continuously hatch the same egg. Why? Because I want you to have the chance of finding the shiny Pokemon of your dreams, well... At least the second one, because the first one is basically free.
• FREE??!?!!!?!!! You can get one non-mythical, non-legendary shiny Pokemon in the game, of your choice. People can have more than one of the same shiny, and people who run multiple characters (Max being 2) will be able to get one shiny per character, on only that character.
• Why are there shiny chances? I thought this was supposed to stray away from the games! Well, people want a shiny, which I give you, but if you want to, you can breed, or hunt by encountering the same Pokemon multiple times, if you want another. This branches off into a new part of the RP, which gives you more choices when you play.
• What can you do with random shinies? Well, of course you can keep them. You can also trade them to other players for their shinies or other desired Pokemon, you can trade them to players and NPCs for money, which allows you to buy other things essential to your journey. You could also release them, but :(
Ah yes. Battling. One of the true tests to measure a trainers strength, skill, and bond with their Pokemon... Is implemented in the games as a turn-based-button-pressing-only-thing-changing-the-game-is-abilities system. Well, not in my house.
• How will battling Work? Battling is based on the writing, and the creativity of the writer's mind. Hopping off trees, using rocks for cover, and using moves that are for one purpose in the games, for multiple purposes in the RP are some of the many ways battling is done in the RP.
• Who can we battle with and how will we battle them? You can battle with NPCs, and of course other players. Trial master battles will be handled by me and other co-GMs vs. you, while random encounters and NPC trainer battles can be written by yourself. When writing a battle scene between you and another RPer, unless it is OHKO short, which it shouldn't be, you should write is as a collab. Recommendations for collab writing, are a website called titanpad, or PMing each other your parts of the battle, and then merging It together into one post.
• What can we get from battles? You can get a small amount of money from NPCs, and if you chose, you can ask for a small amount from RPers. If beating a key opponent, it can sometimes award you with money, z-crystals, mega stones, TMs, and other valuable items.
• What do you mean, 'using moves with another purpose'? Take agility double team for example. In the games they are used for evasiveness or some shit. In the anime, they are used to trick the opponentc creating multiple visions of the same Pokemon by moving at a rapid speed. Another example would be using hydro pump to propel yourself into the air, or rapid spin to deflect and incoming attack. It's all up to the mind of the writer
First of all, there are no levels. In the end it gets to hectic, and people complain their level fifty got rekt by a level 22 even though the righting, and strategies were clearly better.
Uf there ar no levels, how do we evolve and learn moves? Relax child. In place of leveling, your Pokemon will be measured by how well they do in battles, contests and trials. I'm letting you have more control over how fast/how slow you want your Pokemon to evolve, as long as it is within reason. I don't want your charmander to evolve in the first couple of posts. I want you to spread it out fairly.
How else can we learn moves? There are select cities with move tutors, as well as TMs that are obtainable from battles with key trainers, trial leaders, and special events/lucky finds. So battling and those things aren't the only way you can learn levels.
Character Sheet & Rules
~ Hello, welcome to the work of Pokemon! What is your name? How old are you? Name: Age: ~ Wow, that's a very interesting name (sooo fake). Now, what do you look like? (Cuz professors be blind) Appearance: ~ Now tell me, what are you like? What drives you to become what is in the vision of your future? Personality/Motivation: ~ What was it like before you moved here to Alola? History: ~ Do you have any Pokemon with you? If not, I'll be happy to give you one! Current Team: (Include moveset, ability, Pokemon, image, and short personality (like 1-2 sentences)) ~ Come now! And join me in the wonderful world of Pokemon!
• Respect me, and any Co-GMs I may have. I try my best to be kind and respectful of you, so please, show that same courtesy for me.
• Keep the RP lighthearted! That's what Pokemon is about. While this takes a more realistic and mature approach on the series we love, the RP isn't supposed to be dark.
• This goes with the previous rule; keep it PG-13. Whether this has to do with gore, romantic situations, or anything else, I don't want anything going to far. And considering the trainers are going to be on the younger side, I don't think (I pray to God that it won't) fade to black would be needed.
• No Godmodding/Powerplaying. You should all know what Godmodding is, and Powerplaying is when you take control of a player's character without their consent.
• Post 2-3 times a week. If it seems like a lot feel free to PM me and we can work something out. I don't want the RP at a halt because people are doing a post a week.
• If you are going to be gone for more than 3 days please let me know. If you don't I will assume you are inactive!
• I'm not asking you to write 25,000 word books, but 2+ Descriptive paragraphs is my standard.
Working on the character we discussed. I have several questions (for now; there may be more later):
1) How many Pokémon may we have on our team at the start of the RP, and what levels will they be? 1a) How will you handle gaining levels, move choices, and evolutions (including friendship-based ones)? 1b) Can Pokémon learn egg moves over the course of the adventure, or will they be exclusively available through breeding? 1c) What is your stance on Hidden Abilities?
2) How will you handle wild encounters? Will you provide a specific list of Pokémon for each route, or can we find anything we want within reason? 2a) How many Pokémon can we catch in any given area?
3) Do we provide our own starting equipment? I note there is no Inventory or Bag entry in the character sheet, and would like to begin with a small set of basic Trainer items if possible.
My main question would be, what power level are you looking for in our pokemon? Because I have an idea for an inherited babysitter pokemon for Ro but I'd like to get your two sense on the matter before I do anything.
Name: Roland "Ro" Matrose
Age: 17
Appearance: Standing just over 6'3 inches and just now showing signs of slowing down, his intimidating height is lessened by the fact that he looks like a beanpole. While teased mercilessly as a child for his height and lingering baby fat when he was younger, his family's tradition of sailing and fishing has traded out most of the fat for toned, wiry muscle. His hair is thick, shaggy, and sunbleached, reaching a little past his chin and usually left to flap in the wind. The sun has also tanned his skin considerably, the only betrayal of his natural pale skin being the tanktop shaped tan lines on his torso and the skin midway up his thighs. Ro's skin is dotted with many freckles, gifts of the sun as he likes to call them. The heaviest dusting of them are across his nose, the tops of his ears, and across his shoulders and upper back.
His face is fairly expressive and angular, all hard edges and wide smiles. Speaking of which his teeth are uncannily predatory, appearing far too sharp when he gives a wolfish grin... though that could just be an illusion of his general angular face. His bottom left canine has been fitted with a gold replacement. In terms of clothes Ro is a simple man, usually only wearing a dark red tanktop and dirty green cargo shorts. He prefers to forgo proper footwear in lieu of going barefoot but will concede to wearing heavy combat boots should he have to. He can normally be found with a large, black leather jacket with many sewed patches, pins of various bands, and a dusting of steel spikes on the left shoulder. He carries the smell of sea salt with him near constantly.
Personality/Motivation: A fairly simple man, in all. Ro prefers the simple things, like sailing, fishing, and having a good meal. He is a near constant rain of sunshine and has a perennial chip on his shoulder for those in positions of authority. Ro has a very... acquired sense of humor that consists of good natured ribbing, teasing, and general tomfoolery that can come across as bullying to those thin of skin. However, beneath that lies a man who holds on dearly to the friends he can make with an intense loyalty. He can take anything you throw at him but as soon as you bring in someone he considers a friend you will have someone who will start a fistfight with Arceus himself to insure their protection and honor.
Ro isn't quite sure what he wants from Alola. He certainly isn't too invested in the Trials, nor the contests, yet a scrap here and there doesn't sound too unappealing either. For now he's content to travel the islands, see the sights, and wait and see how things peel out. Until then he sure he saw a noodle shop around here somewhere. History: Ro has had a simple, if unconventional life. His parents were married and expecting young, only 20 when they tied the knot and Ro well on his way before that. Besides each other and Ro, his parents tertiary love was the sea, a love that they did well to drill into Ro as soon as he could walk. Heck, he was born out on sea, his mother going into labor before they could dock in Vermillion City in Kanto. So one could say his true home is out on sea. Ro's parents stayed in Vermillion City for several years, letting little Ro grow a little before setting off again. Things were like this for awhile, sailing off to a region and staying there for a couple years then sailing off again when the itch of exploration got too much. In fact this is why he even got Professor Kukui's note in the first place, having visited Alola several times in his family's travels and making a "splash" every time they do.
Current Team: Lapras A.K.A. "Nan" Ability: Water Absorb Moves: -Ice Beam -Ice Fang -Surf -Brine Appearance: Nan is a large Lapras, nearly larger than most other Lapras by half. Her skin is dotted with many small scars, gained over the years as Ro's father's choice pokemon during his younger years. The most notable of these scars is a slash over her left eye, blinding it. Personality: Nan is very maternal over Ro, acting as his nanny ever since he was born. Though that isn't to say she approves much of his shenanigans and actively scolds him for rude behavior. In her youth she was a proud fighter and would take on nearly anything that tried to get at her master and his family. Now however she has grown older and would much prefer lazily traveling the water and eating Magikarp, though should any threat raise it's head you'll be sure that Nan will fight with all the vigor she had and more to keep her charge safe.
@WriterRaven 1. You may have any one basic stage non-mythical, non-legendary Pokemon. Level doesn't play a part in this RP as it may in other RPs. It matters in the skill of the writing. If the writer can make a good enough strategy, and bring the piece of writing to life with detail and description, a pidgey can beat a kirlia. 1a. Gaining levels like I stated isn't really a mechanic in this RP. Evolutions will be based on how many battles/trials/contests a Pokemon has been in. I really don't like levels in RPs, as I'd rather lose in a fair match, than win by hidden numbers. With friendship based evolutions, well... Start friending xD 1b. I haven't decided on egg moves yet, but for now my answer leans towards yes, writhing reason. 1c. I'm fine with hidden abilities, just... I don't want a completely stacked team.
2. I tried a list in past games, and it just didn't work out well. You can encounter anything within reason. 2a/3. I chose to put these together as they go hand in hand. After you go through the 'tutorial' of the RP, you will be given 5 pokeballs, 10 potions, 3 revives, 1 of each of the basic status healing items. Everytime you get to a new town they will refresh. As you get into later towns not only do they refresh, but they get an upgrade (ex. Pokeball into great ball) and you will be able to carry more of that item. You can catch as many Pokemon as you have pokeballs for, and yes, if you save the pokeballs they will carry over after the refresh, but they will not get an upgrade of one is given.
Just like evolving, experience in battles/contests/trials. I prefer not to have levels, as people say keeping track is to hard, and that they need to know how much experience they got from battle, and in the end it was a total shitstorm so I'm letting you guys have a bit of free reign with moves and levels, as long as it's not 'charmander I chose you! Alright now evolve twice and learn flamethrower on the first day!'
In the anime they have episodes dedicated to learning new moves, so just kinda do a thing with that? Mention that you've been training in a post or actively spar with another player, I'm sure that will do.
I was thinking of having a photographer who has a Growlithe ever since she was a kid. I assume I can only give him basic moves or can I give him something like Fire Fang/Ember?
@AbysmalDemon I'm going to go on a limb and say that reality ensues when we bring a very water dependant pokemon on land, like a Magikarp or Lapras?
I can allow Lapras, but if you have a magikarp or a golden out on land... Your battle ain't gonna last that long. Honestly if I were battling that I'd just wait for the opposing Pokemon to suffocate and die :D
@Polaris North I would allow an ember on the growlithe ^^
I can allow Lara's, but if you have a magikarp or a golden out on land... Your battle ain't gonna last that long. Honestly if I were battling that I'd just wait for the opposing Pokemon to suffocate and die faint. :D
@Polaris North I would allow an ember on the growlithe ^^
@AbysmalDemon Well my point was like, on land I don't imagine my pokemon doing so hot. Magikarp is going to flap about on land since he's a fish, Lapras might be fine and dandy but she can't actually move anywhere. 'S what I meant, not that I'm bothered by it at all. I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page since that part always bugged me in the games even though I know why they allowed it.

Yeah I know, I was kidding about the suffocation part xD
If you could have a ground/floor based water moved such as surf, muddy water (can Lapras even learn muddy water) or even an ice beam to freeze the floor, I would be fine with Lapras gaining that mobility. If you can explain it you can do it.
"Give me your brightest smile okay? One, two, three!"
Name: "Me? The name's Robyn. Robyn Clark, at your service!"
Age: "I'm 16 and a half. Birthday's on March 14."
Appearance: "Let's see here, I'm five three. I know, I'm small, but what can I do? Anyway, I have brown hair that ends around my shoulders; it's pretty unruly and I've long since given up trying to pat it down. I have light brown eyes, bordering hazel, I think. I usually wear a brown trench coat, a gift from my father... don't ask. I usually wear a shirt, pants and boots - the usual traveler's clothing. Around my neck is usually my trusty DSLR. Like many travelers, I have a backpack with me. The contents of it have extra SD cards for my camera, an extra camera and some other trainer stuff."
Personality/Motivation: "I don't have big dreams. I don't want to become a Pokemon champion, I don't want to be the ultimate winner of contests. I just want to travel the world and take pictures of the beauty that comes with it. Photography is my passion and I don't care what I take a picture of, whether it be a location, a person or Pokemon. I want to capture it all!"
Robyn is the kind of person who is energetic and happy most of the time. There aren't many things that could dampen her mood so she's usually very friendly - even to strangers. But to be perfectly honest, she doesn't really care who she takes a picture of. Though she would usually approach someone and ask for their permission first. But, there are exceptions, especially when someone's training. She just snaps a photo without their consent and maybe just talk to them later on or when she's caught. Despite being like this, she is actually pretty logical and thinks things through well before she acts. She's not much for battling though and only does it for fun so that her Pokemon could get some well-earned exercise.
History: Robyn was born in Unova. Her parents were Pokemon breeders so you can just imagine the amount of Pokemon she grew up with. Though her most favorite out of all of them was a Growlithe that was born when she was around five years old and she's been taking care of him from then on. She would sometimes get into Pokemon battles with her Growlithe but she never felt the kick that most trainers do so she knew that it wasn't her calling and neither was contests. So she decided to help her parents with Pokemon breeding. When she was nine years old, she was gifted a DSLR. And something just clicked, she had taken mounds of photos of the Pokemon at home then those around town.
By the time she was twelve, she had already traveled around the Unova region, taking photos of all the Pokemon in the region. She was hoping to get some shots of Legendary Pokemon but that's one in a million chances to get a shot like that so she opted for visiting gyms to get a picture. She even tagged along multiple trainers who go to the Pokemon League to take pictures of the Elite Four but she had to keep those pictures a secret since they couldn't allow the Elite Four's Pokemon to be shown to the public. However, when she asked them to model for at least a picture, they would do it.
When she was thirteen, she was allowed to travel from region to region to continue her passion. She brought along her Growlithe. They first went to the Kanto-Johto regions and then began to take pictures of the Pokemon she hasn't seen in the Unova region and then trainers and the best locations of the region. She packed it up and headed to Alola next, as she heard nothing but the best from it. When she arrived, she received a letter from a professor and this is where the adventure starts...
"My team? I don't usually battle but like everyone else, I like catching some Pokemon too!"
Current Team:
He has a defining trait actually - there is a black shape in the form of a paw on his belly. Ability: Flash Fire and [Hidden Ability] Justified Moveset: - Bite - Ember - Roar - Crunch - Egg move Personality: Growlithe is very loyal to Robyn and also protective of her when he notices that someone is threatening her. Despite his size, he is very brave and anyone or anything that threatens Robyn. However, he is actually quite a friendly Pokemon to those who are friendly and is quite playful. He is the acting guard 'dog' to Robyn. He is not usually kept inside a Pokeball.
I seriously see Robyn riding Arcanine once Growlithe evolves.
@Pathfinder - Hm... Could you possibly remove the hydro pump? Other than that you should be good.
@Polaris North - Looks good! And yes, I could definitely see that as well ^^
@Sunbather Noooo :( For future reference I like to make my CS in my PMs to myself before copy/pasting them into the thread. One of the concepts I am keeping from the games is the move sets. Only 4 at a time, but moves can be relearned if you choose to replace them.
