"Haha! The names Claire. Nice to meet ya, Laurinda." Claire started walking after them after briefly checking her pokedex. She matched their their brisk pace easily enough. Wasn't like she didn't have energy to spare, after all. Plus, she was hyped to see if she could find any cool pokemon here in the woods. Having a strong looking trainer like Laurinda around was not an opportunity she was gonna miss out on, no matter how dangerous. "And don't worry, I can keep up." She gave the woman a confident grin. "If worst comes to worst, I can run pretty fast, heh." Truthfully, she knew this was an incredibly stupid idea, but hey. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Taking a few risks was part of the fun of life.

"Ral!" Ralia gave Claire a sharp poke on her chin.

"Oh yeah! And this is Ralia. She says hi."

She could not hide her exitedly, when Rosa winned the tackle match against the Pidgey. The cherry pokemon run to her arms after the fight " Oh Good job, Rosa, you're great" Donna said, cuddling the small grass pokemon.

She looked at the Audrey girl, trying to said about the great fight, but then the girl suddently throwed her other pokeballs and wanted to fight more. For Donna it really didn't suprise at all that all her pokemons was Pidgeys " Alright, Two against two? sound good?" she said smilling.

Without waiting any answers she throwed her vulpix out of her pokeball and ordered Rosa back to the battlefield. She knowed that Rosa was half health, so she desiced to give her a potion to heal.

Ren listened attentively as professor Kalmia listed off everything she could think of, and took a moment to think. "Mmmh... I think Shyn will need some healing before anything. Then we can worry about going to get something to eat and subsequently going around town. Professor Kalmia? If you would..." The young woman grabbed her Pokeball and released her starter, apologising to the worn out Shinx before she quickly explained that the professor was there to help him heal. At this, Shyn bounced up and down gleefully, and put extra effort into showing off his stylish fur for the professor. "Shyn!"

On the other hand Shyn's trainer found herself in wonder as to what exactly the professor meant by 'Super Contest'. Was it some kind of battle tournament? Or was it something else? Frankly, Ren had never heard of such a thing, and decided it was worth investigating before she and Shyn left later in the day. They'd need some provisions as well, and possibly sleeping equipment. She knew that she likely didn't have enough funds to last her too long, but they would have to make do with what they had and work with it.

Ren sighed, and awaited Kalmia to heal her Pokemon.

Sno had succeeded in her second attempt at Powdered Sno, which was encouraging for Erika. Venonat had to be feeling the effects at this point, right? Ice versus Bug. It should be an easy win, Erika just had to keep letting Sno chip away at Venonat. "Nice work Sno! Keep it up! Hit Venonat with another!" Erika shouted with a an intense vigor, clenching her fists tight from the tensity of her first battle.

Sno stumbled around trying to find a footing in her confusion, which made Erika, understandably, nervous. However, Erika had estimated that Sno was doing alright despite the confusion. Even if she failed to usher snow from under her coat and took Venonat's tackle, Sno would probably still be okay. Assuming a failure, the pressure would be on for Sno and Erika as Venonat would have finally closed the distance for its more physical attacks.

Oh, Erika couldn't look. A lot was riding on this next attack. A point blank flurry of snow could really do Venonat in, Erika hoped, but she didn't really know.

Deciding to run, Dawkin fled through the tunnels. He ran out into the wettest tunnel, the water reaching to his thighs in depth, and more wings sounded. He heard the sound of a dashing fire-dog in literal hot pursuit, but something else was also heard. As he moved, the sound of wings became apparent. So, a number of Zubats were flying about, disturbed by the sudden movement in their tunnel.

Pokédex Entry #41 – Zubat, the Bat Pokémon. It lives in colonies in dark places. It has no eyes, but when flying it is constantly emitting ultrasonic sounds which it uses to navigate through echolocation. As sunlight burns it, it’s usually only found in caves or at night.

… But, the Zubats seemed to be more interested in the other Pokémon out, for some reason, and flew straight past Dawkin and hampered the Growlithe. It slowed down the dog-Pokémon momentarily before…

Roar. The command echoed through the cave, and immediately afterwards Growlithe let out just that. An echoing, intimidating roar which pierced the caves, sending the Zubats scurrying. However, they had delayed Growlithe long enough that Dawkin had already reached the water, where Growlithe stopped and barked at him.

The Ducklett was right behind, diving into the water. Now, it appeared the water was the right route to avoid being pursued by the Growlithe, but the Ducklett was far faster than him in water. In addition, letting Atlas out here would cause him to end up underwater. As far as he could see, there was no clear end to the wet tunnel, it just went on and on, Ducklett was going to catch up to him like this. He may need to change tactics.

There’s, um. A random blue Pokémon standing on a rock extruding out of the water, staring at him with a stupid expression. He might recognize the species, depending on how much we retcon.

Pokédex Entry #194 – Wooper, the Water Fish Pokémon. It lives in cold water, sleeping on the bottom and seeking food by the shore when it's cold. When walking above water, wild Woopers cover their bodies with a slimy, poisonous film that keeps them from dehydrating. It's slightly dull-witted.

Up to Dawkin what to do.

‘Good luck! I’m rooting for you!’ Amelia got wished well by Kalmia before she was on her way, into Pureplain.

Being so plain, Pureplain didn’t actually have much of their own local delicacies, but the harbor ensured that they had delicacies from elsewhere around the world. Like, Rage Candy Bar from Johto, Lava Cookie from Hoenn, Old Gateau from Sinnoh, Casteliacone from Unova or the Lumiose Galette and Shalour Sable from Kalos…

And, there were multiple random people around who were more than happy to talk their hearts out, regardless of if Amelia spoke or not.

But, soon enough after treading through the town the people started thinning out, going home for their respective businesses. Soon, the streets were dark and a new aspect of Pureplain City was discovered. Absolute silence, darkness. A few people were still about on their personal businesses, but the city had otherwise gone still, to sleep. Some were still hauling goods by the harbor, others were awake for their own reasons. Like Amelia.

So, there was no luck in the center of the city, with all the tall buildings. There were no Pokémon she could sense in that area. The search continued for a while, and it would almost appear that all the Pokémon had gone to sleep alongside the people. Dark and silent, few lights up, this was not a city that never slept. Amelia had to simply wander and hope for the best.

But, then there was something.

As she wandered the sub-urbs of the vast area of family-homes, she walked by a building. A fairly large building, two floors, white walls and a large parking area where three cars could easily stand yet only one did. It looked like the kind of house a moderately rich person might but, it stood up a little compared to the surrounding ones. Inside the house, she felt the presence of ghosts. Or, wait. Inside wasn’t quite accurate. Beneath the eaves of the house?

Coming closer, she could see a small line of ghosts. A specific kind of ghosts.

Pokédex Entry #353 – Shuppet, the Puppet Pokémon. It senses the emotions of others, and feeds on dark emotions like jealousy, malice, anger and sadness through its horn. They’re very active at night, and search cities for the houses of vengeful people. They like to gather under eaves.

… So, regardless of what this meant about the person who’s house this was, that meant Amelia had found some ghosts. A few of them had noticed her, and was giving her analyzing stares from under the eaves.

So, Houndour went to work, seeking the smells of poison. Yet, everywhere he smelled, the grass was wet and fresh, the waters clean and cared for. While Houndour was an excellent searcher, he simply couldn’t find what wasn’t there.

There are no naturally appearing poison-type Pokémon on Route 2.

However, as he was searching and looking into one of the flows of water on the route, Lucian located at least one new kind of Pokémon, which was a half-meter tall bug that was skating on the water, so idly, gracefully and without a care in the world, not having even seen him yet.

Pokédex Entry #283 – Surskit, the Pond Skater Pokémon. Found on lakes or in puddles after evening downpours, feeding on microorganisms. It secretes an oil from its feet that enable it to move on water as if skating. When endangered, it secretes a sweet fluid from its head.

Of course, it’s up to Lucian if this Pokémon interests him or not. If not, he could always just return to make a new choice.

‘Dark… Knight…!?’ The “king”’s eyes widened in alarm at Martin’s exclamation, staring at him with somewhat of a mix of awe at how cool that sounded and alarm that this might be someone way out of their league.

‘Rattata! Use Quick Attack!’ Donald commanded, and the Rattata jumped forward in a really fast flash, hitting Nincada straight on. Nincada took almost no damage.

‘… Tatta?’ Rattata briefly asked before Nincada’s scratch impacted. Now, one scratch wouldn’t be quite enough to take it down in one blow, but the inexperienced Rattata panicked and made the second attack extremely easy to hit. Rattata fainted.

‘Ah! Rattata!’ Donald shouted out, startled.

Martin was victorious! Martin gained 118 P for winning!

‘My lord! The Dark Knight… He’s too strong!’ Donald turned back, looking alarmed at his king. The little “princess” was looking at Martin with wide eyes of excitement and awe, for some reason.

‘Hm. We may have to take desperate measures.’ The youngster king frowned, and looked to another trainer who had easily defeated one of the other knights. ‘Fabled Mercenary! Our kingdom is under threat of a powerful Dark Knight! May we enlist your aid?’

‘Oh! Yeah, sure! For the standard fee!’ A female trainer, excited to partake, came forth.

‘Standard fee acknowledged. Any spoils of the battle are yours.’ The youngster acknowledged. Though, of course, that would have been the case anyway. The picknicker smiled in Martin’s direction.

‘Accepted. Let’s do this, then.’

Picnicker Mercenary Lena would like to battle!

‘So, I have stronger Pokémon, but to stay at the level of this tournament… here!’ Lena lobbed a Pokéball, which landed on the ground and erupted to form a pink little creature which sounded out loudly.

‘Skitty!’

Pokédex Entry #300 – Skitty, the Kitten Pokémon. It lives in holes in trees of forests. It easily becomes fascinated with things and chase them, and it commonly seen chasing its own tail. While popular due to perceived cuteness, it is very difficult to earn a Skitty’s trust and friendship.

‘Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!’ The stand-in princess sounded out. ‘It’s cute! I want one!’ She cried out, looking wide-eyed at the little kitty.

‘Heh. You like it?’ Lena smirked at the little girl. ‘They live in the Silent Forest, if you’d like to go get one yourself. Kind of uncommon, but they’re there.’ The picknicker told, demonstrating how that feature of the game works.

‘Now. You ready?’ Lena grinned a little and asked, her Skitty prepared in an excited stance as well. Nincada and Martin both would be able to tell this trainer and her Pokémon was a little bit more… considerable. Equal. And that was without factoring in what she had said earlier.

‘Claire. Ralia. It seems you have spirit. That’s good. That’s how it should be. Hi.’ Laurinda smiled a bit and said in response, as she walked on behind her Delphox who really looked like she couldn’t care less about the recent arrivals. It wasn’t long walking towards the darker regions of the woods before Laurinda spoke up again.

‘Now, the Outer Infested Woods is child’s play, an area cleared out by all the Volbeats to make it safe. For the bugs deeper in here, they prefer the dark. Now we move to where the true threats live. I bid you welcome to what I’d like to call…’

‘Rule #1 of True Infested Woods.’ Laurinda spoke as they walked on. Suddenly, Delphox thrust her wand downwards, and a spike of flame surged down into the plants at her feet. The fox then proceeded to lift the wand to blast it between two trees where they were going, and something lit on fire. Something that had almost been invisible to the naked eyes. Some tiny Pokémon quickly scurried away along the trees.

‘Beware of spider webs.’ Laurinda finished, gesturing towards the spiders.

Pokédex Entry #167 – Spinarak, the String Spit Pokémon. It weaves traps of web in fine but durable silk, and then waits for days upon end for prey to be captured. Its webs are connected to its nerves, letting it know exactly what has been caught. Its web is used for fishing lines.

‘Rule #2, at least for your level…’ Laurinda glanced further up a specific tree and gestured, giving a little smile as she pointed on… ‘Avoid evolved Pokémon.’ … A considerably bigger spider.

Pokédex Entry #168 – Ariados, the Long Leg Pokémon. Its rear constantly spins new web. It attaches threads from itself to its nest so it can always find home, likewise it's also known to attach threads to prey and then let them flee so the prey can lead the way to friends and family.

The Ariados was unmoving, attached to the tree-trunk staring down, likely aware the Delphox was above its level.

‘That’s it.’ Laurinda nodded pleased at the big spider. ‘Let’s move on.’ And so the woman kept walking, following after the Delphox that barely stopped moving other than to shoot the fire at the web in the way, moving ever deeper into the forest. Everywhere, there felt like there were tiny eyes that watched their every move…

But, of course, Claire could do as she liked.

Connected areas:
Outer Infested Woods. Behind you. Always possible to flee.

Audrey blinked somewhat at the suggestion, a tiny bit of a trace of apprehension that told that she wasn’t entirely confident in her abilities to have such a battle, but…

‘Yeah, sure! Pidgeys, go!’ Audrey said, letting her birds fly out, the two Pidgeys flying out side by side.

Watching her opponents, Audrey made her strategy.

‘I’m pretty sure that cherry can only tackle! You’re faster than it! Pidgeys! Avoid the cherry and take down the fox, first! I’m pretty sure it can shoot fire, so do your best to fly high and dodge! Tackle it!’ She commanded, and the Pidgeys acknowledged, flying at about three meter height around trying to bait Flame to use ember so they could swoop in to tackle with reasonable safety, all while avoiding Rosa.

‘Ah, yes! Of course!’ Kalmia answered happily to Ren’s statement, and looked to the excited Pokémon with a potion, It really was all he needed, there wasn’t any more damage than that. That was, when another person threaded forward, with a somewhat interested stare.

‘You. Ren, was it?’ The resident Elite Four walked forward, Jacques looking at her with curiosity and appreciation in his look. ‘You’ve awoken my interest. The way you handled yourself in battle, the way I know absolutely nothing about you… It’s curious. You match nothing of what my sources told me to expect from Kalmia’s trainers, aside from the black sheep.’ Jacques said, one hand on his chin.

‘Hold on there, you.’ Kalmia said in a cautioning tone, looking up to him where she was still kneeling down to Shyn. ‘You already snagged my assistant. I have my eyes on you if you try anything like that again. Don’t you already have your own hopefuls? Most of which got a thorough thrashing from my trainers…’

‘Ah, but it would be a shame not to examine talent where I find it, wouldn’t it?’ Jacques but smiled. ‘Don’t get me wrong. My own hopefuls have talent. Oaken’s got an excellent academic mind, if he finds his compassion for Pokémon he’ll easily become a Pokémon Master, which I happen to know was the thing you turned him down for.’

‘… I couldn’t approve of his mindset.’ Kalmia shrugged a little, looking just a bit guilty.

‘Yet, the foundation of a master is there.’ Jacques smiled. ‘The same with the rest. Joshua’s a natural at connecting with Pokémon. Ewan’s got a firmer grip on reality than any kid should at that age. Rodger’s brave and surprisingly resourceful. Ellyn’s a genius, you just have to draw it out of her unenthusiastic mind. Maple’s virtually immune to fear, apprehension or the feeling that something’s impossible. Cathia has a powerful goal that will drive her to mastery. Vivia’s such a jewel of untapped potential I just couldn’t let her remain but an assistant.’

Kalmia gave him a little glare at that. Wasn’t like she wasn’t going to use that potential for something.

‘And Simon’s… Well. Simon’s Simon.’ Jacques nodded to himself.

‘Yeah. Simon will be Simon.’ Kalmia sighed and admitted to that.

‘But, I can hold one of those speeches, too. Claire’s the shiniest young girl I’ve ever seen. Dawkin’s a good kid who I know deserves the chance to show his skills to the world. Lucian’s, uh,’ Rich. ‘a great potential that simply needs to be steered in the right direction. Donna’s a child pursuing her dream, and always had a good relationship with Pokémon. Erika’s got a good head on her shoulders, and will go far if she has the drive. Martin’s got a goal, and will prove himself working for it. Amelia’s got a connection to Pokémon unavailable to normal people. And Ren’s the girl that came to me on her own, purpose in her eyes, and I believe in her determination.’

‘Oh, no doubt about that.’ Jacques responded. ‘But I am curious as to what that purpose is. For as it stands, I know nothing about her.’ He looked to Ren.

‘Most people I can tell the majority of their tale with a single look. You… I cannot. Which interests me. Would you tell me what drives you?’ Jacques asked, looking to Ren. Of course, it was entirely up to her what she wished at this point.

Sno was having trouble, on account of being confused, as Venonat closed in. So, it was once again a question if she would be able to get off a Powder Snow or not. Venonat was closing in. So she had to focus all she could and…

She got it off again, and the Powder Snow hit Venonat straight on, freezing the outer areas of the purple bug. ‘Veeeeeeeenonat!’ The Pokémon cried out yet still managed to force her way through the attack and tackled Sno, sending her back a bit. But, Venonat was obviously the one that had suffered the most damage. However, the purple Pokémon wasn’t quite up yet.

‘Keep tackling!’ Vivia commanded, hoping that her two-turn preparation to get the Snorunt confused hadn’t backfired to mean nothing. Sno was still confused, and had taken a bit of damage from that tackle. But, if she could get through another Powder Snow, that would surely finish it, this time.

Dawkin was worried about a swarm of zubats attacking him but for whatever reason they avoided him, not bothering to question why Dawkin kept moving forward, the angry roar from behind only spurring his efforts onward. His own splashing was joinged by something more quiet and much faster. Dawkin looked for anything that could help him out of his current situation and saw... a stupid looking blue Pokemon. What were those called, Junior Whoopers or something? Dawkin would've ordinarily had no interest in catching one, however circumstances dictated otherwise. It's coloration alone marked it as a water Pokemon and Dawkin would take the chance for what it was, immediately snatching a Greatball from his sash of Pokeballs and hurling it at the Pokemon. Getting a water Pokemon would allow him to fight the Ducklett, or at least stall it long enough for him to get to solid ground. Dawkin grabbed the Greatball as it was still shaking, hoping it would give the final *click* that signaled the Pokemon was caught. What moves would a wild water Pokemon know? Tackle, Water Gun, Tail Whip? It had to at least know Tackle right?

Martin Price

The Rattata went down without a problem, as Martin expected. He was hoping for the style of a one hit knock out, but two hits was just as good. He put on his best intimidating voice to further play along with the spirit of this area. "Fools, even your knight was no match for me. Now you send a mercenary to stop me? It's matters not what you send at me, I will be coming for the princess. Nincada, show what happens to those who stand in our way." Martin gave a wave of his arm and Nincada stepped forward to get ready. "Nincada, use Scratch on our foe." Nincada ran forward, his claw raised for the attack on Skitty.

Martin had a feeling this was going to be tougher than the last one. Whether it was the fact she used a Pokemon to keep the power level low, or that she was that confident. The only other option he could have used was Harden, which could be a good use. No, a strong hit should give him what he needed to figure out if this was a tough fight. Just act tough and see how far he can get with just Nincada. This was getting pretty fun with how everyone acted like this was a castle. Focus on the fight, or you're gonna lose, Martin. He shook his head, he couldn't take this battle lightly.

Amelia enjoyed her walk around town. Pureplain was so different from her home that she couldn't help but enjoy herself. It helped that she was finally free of her parents oppression and that her partner was rather adventurous and more willing to explore places she hesitated to, forcing her to follow before he could cause trouble.

Even after night fell, she was still wide awake and walking through town. Litwick lit up the darker sections of town with his flame, making it easy to navigate. When she finally sensed some Ghost-type Pokemon, she dashed off in their direction, finding a house covered in Shuppets. When she noticed a few looking at her, she waved at them in a friendly manor.
"Hello there. Can I talk to some of you?" She asked in a kind, gentle tone, similar to how she had talked to the Pokemon at home.

Compared to the outer woods, the True Infested Woods looked like some place out of some not so child-friendly video game. Like, the kind of video game where you could die ten different ways without taking ten steps in the place. She was really glad Laurinda was here, she'd probably get in over her head really, really, fast otherwise.

"Wooow, I'd have walked right into that because environmental hazards are the bane of my existence. Thanks Delphox." The redhead chuckled nervously, watching Delphox burn the web with ease. She and Ralia didn't even notice it. She'd have walked right into it, and it'd just be bad times all around.

Claire kept close to Laurinda. As much as she'd like to get into a good tussle with some high level pokemon and possibly catch one of those spinarak...she was not looking forward to dealing with a horde of spiders or whatever else was out there. She'd get rekt so hard, it wouldn't even be funny. At least she was getting some good scans on the pokedex. Too bad she wasn't getting paid just for scanning them. She'd be more loaded then she already was, heh.

Well, might as well get to know the area they were heading to a little bit.

"So Laurinda," Claire started, making sure not to lag behind the woman and her Delphox. "Know any pokemon that live around here? Like, in the deep woods? I already caught a Ledyba in the outer woods, buuut, It'd be kinda a shame to leave here empty handed." Honestly, Claire was hoping Laurinda wouldn't mind sticking around for a bit. At least, maybe help her snag a rare pokemon from the Deep Woods, if one struck her fancy. Spinarak was nice enough, but it wasn't a pokemon she'd use all that much.

The blue Pokémon had stood as stupidly the entire time, and didn’t even flinch or make a move when suddenly hit by a Great Ball. The Great Ball proceeded to fall down onto the rock, and was not able to hold its balance as well as the Wooper had, so it bounced down into the water. It shook a bit, notably floating on the surface of the water. Of course, if he actually wanted to bring it along he would have to grab it out of the water as he headed on. The ball shook and shook, regardless of where it was, until finally…

There was a sudden splash, and in front of Dawkin Ducklett suddenly emerged, having had the time to swim past him with considerable speed. The duck landed on the surface and made a single high salutation with its right wing, mouth wide open.

‘Ducklett!’ It was now blocking the way, sure to use moves to keep him from going deeper into the wet tunnel. Meanwhile, he could hear the noises of two other individuals having jumped into the waters, including a number of female curses about having to get wet in her fine attire, because she had been intending on changing before getting into the water.

Dawkin’s left once again with the choice of what to do, now.

‘Iiph!’ The little princess seemed suddenly honestly scared by Martin’s promise to lay claim to her, and she dove in to hide behind her king. Actually, the king too looked kind of intimidated, blinking at him somewhat.

‘Oh, my. I might have to take defending the princess seriously.’ Lena smirked a little, looking at Martin. ‘Sorry, I’m going to take the first turn. Fake Out!’

‘Skit!’ The Skitty flashed forward at Nincada, absurdly fast and unpreventable, and clapped her tiny paws on him before jumping over him and landing on the other side. It didn’t do a whole lot of damage, but Nincada couldn’t help but flinch at the sudden impact.

‘Strong defenses, huh. Let’s see if I can do something about that. Skitty, Tail Whip!’ Lena commanded in on the second round of the battle, having stolen the first one for herself.

‘Skitty~!’ The kitten-Pokémon started waving her comparatively pretty big tail on a small distance from Nincada, which would reduce his defense somehow, assuming he saw it. Of course, Martin and Nincada could also make a move that turn.

There were quite a few Shuppets inhabiting under the eaves of the house, but upon Amelia’s request, a couple of them came flying down curiously. To be exact, four. Four Shuppets came flying down in a line before breaking in different directions when they were about to reach her.

‘Shuppet?’ The first one asked curiously, flying pretty much right up into Amelia’s face, though not with any violent intentions.

‘Shup-shup?’ The second one asked as curiously, drifting around her to nose itself towards the back of her head.

‘Shuppeeeet!’ The third one sounded happy, hovering above Amelia’s head, smiling and looking down at her.

‘Shuuupp…’ The fourth one was keeping a bit of a distance compared to the very nosy other three, staring at Amelia a bit from about two meters distance.

So, all of a sudden, Amelia had four Shuppets paying extra close attention to her. There were more up there, but these four came down to her. She was now to act as she liked in this situation.

‘Delph.’ The fox’s noise as she was being thanked sounded a lot like “You don’t need to thank me. No, really. Don’t.” She then continued to simply walk deeper into the woods, not particularly checking if they were still following. Delphox held the wand burning in front of her, gazing into the flame rather than at her surroundings.

‘Delphox sees this as but a chore, I’m afraid. There is nothing here which challenges her. It’s made her a bit unhappy.’ Laurinda commented with a sad and slightly regretful smile. ‘But, really. Many Pokémon are known for laying traps. You’d best learn to be a bit wary.’ Laurinda commented, looking to them.

‘I know all Pokémon that inhabit the Infested Woods.’ Laurinda answered to Claire’s question. ‘… But I don’t think I should help you out like that. You shouldn’t be relying on my strength to get a boost. I’m fine with you tagging along during my missions, sure, but any such actual effort that benefits your Pokémon journey should be done by you and your Pokémon by yourselves.’ She said with finality in her voice, to indicate that she shouldn’t be persuaded to otherwise.

‘And you stop right there.’ She suddenly said and pointed at a bush, and a tiny little shape froze. A blue little creature crawled back into the woods with an annoyed tint in its eyes.

‘Karra…’

Pokédex Entry #588 – Karrablast, the Clamping Pokémon. They live in fields and forests, hiding in tall grass or trees. When threatened, they’re known to spit acidic liquid to drive attackers away. If bathed in electricity together with a Shelmet, both will evolve.

May or may not have been just about to spit acid at the present individuals. After being satisfied with that the creature had obeyed her command, Laurinda turned and wandered further towards the next part of Infested Woods. Claire has the same options as last time, once again, adding a Karrablast option.

"Lit." Her partner said warningly to the Shuppets, but Amelia simply laughed before petting her partner before looking around at the four Shuppets that surrounded her. Three of them seemed rather brave and approached her with no problem but the fourth seemed hesitant. She smiled at the first three before moving around them to the fourth, reaching out with one hand towards it.

"It's okay. I'm not here to hurt you. I want to take one of you on a journey with me. Would you like to come along, any of you?" She said to them kindly, wondering if some of them would back off at the thought of leaving their home. If they did, she wouldn't hold it against them. If they were all willing though, if would be hard to decide which one to take with her.

Lucian inspected the pokemon he had discovered for a moment, opening his pokedex to register it before finalizing his judgment on it. Sighing, he turned his attention to Houndour "Have you found anything interesting?" When the dark dog shook his head, Lucian returned to the main path with his pokemon following behind closely.

Looking over the flowery fields of route 2, he decided it was best to start training Houndour "Well it seems our search for a second teammate has failed. No matter. So, how about we try to find some wild pokemon for you to battle? Then we can enter the Infested Woods and try our luck there" as he spoke, he gestured for Houndour to take the lead through the grass "If you pick up the scent of a pokemon, follow it." Lucian ordered as the due began their search for the second time.

Dawkin Trustram

Ha! Success. Of course that brief excitement was halted by the Ducklett, now in front of him and determined to stop him. Dawkin immediately released his new catch and pointed at the Ducklett, "Use watergun on that! Keep it busy." An effective attack? No, but it was an attack. The Wooper landed in the water with a splash, a placid expression on its face. Upon being commanded the Wooper puffed it's cheeks up and blasted out a surge of water at the duck Pokemon. Dawkin immediately withdrew his pokedex and scanned both pokemon, glancing over the important part of the entries. Water absorb? Perfect, it could heal simply by being in the water. With any luck and no trainer nearby, the Ducklett would be more preoccupied with defending itself than stopping Dawkin from proceeding. Dawkin returned the Pokedex and continued wading forward, looking for any conveniently sized rocks he could use to defend himself from the Ducklett or attack with. If he could make it to dry land and release Atlas he would be in a much better spot. Not that dry land looked to be anywhere near but going back wasn't much of an option. He didn't want to use his escape rope either unless he had to, however the noisy splashes from behind indicated he was being followed by the trainers so he could use his rope if did need to.

Shyn glared at Jacques as he approached, mustering up a growl toward him. He always was very protective of Kalmia (and possibly now Ren), but it wasn't like him to snap so suddenly. Someone hadn't taken to what Jacques had said very well.

Then again, neither had Ren.

Kalmia and Jacques had gone off onto something of a bragging contest over their trainers, which made Ren feel a little uncomfortable. Her eyes dart between the two as they speak, before finally resting on Jacques, her resting face making her appear more displeased than she really was. Speaking to a member of the Elite Four wasn't something everyone got to do outside the Pokemon League, and this was a rare opportunity to get some information. She decided she would play the game safe and ask a question to counter his own.

"You wouldn't happen to know where I could learn about rare or otherwise legendary Pokemon, do you?" She quizzed with a blank stare, before turning her gaze to the professor. "I wish to study these kinds of Pokemon, something like the professor, however in the field with my Pokemon. They have caught my interest over the years and I strive to meeting Pokemon of rare origin. Additionally, if possible, I wish to learn from them about other rare or legendary Pokemon." She decided not to go any further than that, technically not listing her drive, however hoping that Jacques wouldn't probe her further. Not that she didn't have a backup plan in case he did, mind...

@PlatinumSkink

"Ouch." Claire said in a mockingly hurt voice. "Your cold rejection wounds me. And here I thought we were hitting it off so well." Claire laughed. Despite her seeming joviality though, she was less than impressed with the answer she received. She of course, wasn't expecting to have to rely on Laurinda for anything at all. She'd rather do the catching herself, but she didn't want to spend hours searching a forest for a pokemon she may or may not even want.

That said, she was already deep in the woods though, and turning back now would seem like a waste. The chance of stumbling across something would be fun, but so far aside from Ledyba and Spinarak there didn't seem to be anything too interesting. Claire barely even glanced at the Karrablast, instead simply following Laurinda for now. Turning back would take too long when she was already here, and if the Deep Woods was as dangerous as Laurinda said, then the chances of her finding something was pretty good. The only thing she'd have to really worry about, as if it'd be a pokemon she'd actually be interested in.

"But alright, alright, I get ya. No rare pokemon for Claire." Ralia gave a small chuckle, before climbing up onto her shoulder. Maybe something in the Deep Woods would be more to her liking. "I'll just have to find 'em on my own."

Thinking about it, she could possibly snag one that was possibly injured by Delphox after saving some noobs from their untimely demise...

She smilled as the girl agreed to her request about touble battle. She looked at the two pidgeys, thoughtfully. Flame could easely defeat them by her fire moves, but as long as they could fly, which was a problem. Thought somehow this battle exited her some, that she wanted to win, probably because she lose to the Cynthia girl and her Flabebe.

"Rosa, dodge the tackles and use harsh sunlight to tackle back" she ordered the cherry pokemon " Flame use your dance skills to dodge and use your flame when the birds are close enought" she said. Hopefully the hight sunlight will speed Rose enought to actually hit the birds.

Even thought she got her first pokemon Flame just some hours ago, she already figured it out, that the little fire pokemon loved to dance and she was pretty fast at it as well.

Martin Price

Martin was having a bit too much fun at playing as the villain. The terrified faces, the sense of urgency in their voices. It was almost like he was the dark knight. The one to walk in and destroy this tournament, and what was in his way was a mercenary and her Skitty. He didn't even have the time to see Skitty disappear from his eyes, only to be found hitting Nincada. Did he underestimate it's speed? No matter, it didn't look that painful, but Nincada flinched, unable to move. Add in that now she was commanding a Tail Whip and Martin needed to make sure this fight didn't go from his advantage to a weakness. "Nincada, don't let that cat take away your armor. Use Harden and get ready for the next attack. Dodge whatever comes at you next."

Nincada gave a nod, uncaring of the damage it took, The fight didn't interest him like the others. Martin still had his personal doubts if that attack would be used next as well. Could he keep up with it or stop such a fast attack? Whatever the trick, it won't surprise him a second time. They would strike after avoiding it. He had the tougher hits, and only needed to land a few to end this. No hired hand would stop his march on the castle.

@Joshua Tamashii - Night

The fourth Shuppet blinked a little at the hand directed at it, before flying forth a bit to inspect it. ‘Shupp-et.’ Seems like Amelia was declared harmless, as it simply stayed in close and stared at her. Then, Amelia came with her next question, and at least the two in front of her got curious expressions.

‘Shuppet?’ The fourth one asked her.

‘Shupp-shupp?’ The third one flew down from above her head to look at the first one and Amelia with an amused little smile.

‘Shuppet!’ The first one announced, smiling at Amelia, but not seeming to make any opinion noted.

‘Shupp!’ … And that’s when Amelia might realize the Shuppet that flew behind her has now stolen one of her Pokéballs, holding it while looking proud of itself. Didn’t seem like it intended anything malicious with it, but nonetheless, he held it.

‘Shuppet!’ The first one blinked a little surprised at the thief, before suddenly flying in at speed. Shuppet used Knock Off!

‘SHUPP!’ A startled thief-Shuppet got startled by the attacking Shuppet, the move doing as it should and the Pokéball flew up into the air.

‘Shuppet~!’ And suddenly the third Shuppet, who had been above Amelia flew up and caught the Pokéball in mid-air, looking really pleased.

‘Shuuuuuupp…!’ The second one didn’t look too pleased about the stolen Pokéball being taken by another, and suddenly flew up at the third one. Shuppet #2 used Knock Off!

‘Shuuuuup~!’ The third one played it dramatically, making an exaggerated sound of despair as the Pokéball flew out of the ghost. It then sailed through the air, over Amelia, before the fourth Shuppet drifted up with a blank expression and caught it.

‘Shupp-et.’ Sounding like “there we go”, it caught the Pokéball, and held it for a bit. … ‘Shuppet?’

The other three were staring at it with intentful stares and smiles, looking quite taken with their little game of Knock Off to get the Pokéball, and the fourth Shuppet suddenly recoiled realizing all three of them were now after it.

‘S-SHUPP!’ Letting out a sound of panic, it shot away and curved, the other three Shuppets on its tail as it flew, somehow holding onto the Pokéball, now flying in circles around Amelia at high speed to avoid the other three.

… As far as could be told, it didn’t appear like any of the Shuppets were necessarily hostile to the idea, but they might have gotten a little too absorbed in their sudden game of Knock-Off-The-Pokéball. Amelia was free to act as she wanted, if she wanted to make peace between them, make a choice or whatever she intended.

Lucian took the time to train Houndour at the wet fields of the flowery Route 2. While there were a few water/other type combinations, such as Surskit and Lotad, none of them were actually high enough level to know any Water-type moves, meaning they were relatively low threat to Houndour.

While training, Lucian inevitably came across the very common Route 2 Pokémon Lotad, so if he wanted to engage one to catch he could. Otherwise, he could just use their leaves to fuel the experience of Houndour’s training.

Pokédex Entry #270 – Lotad, the Water Weed Pokémon. They live in clean ponds and lakes, where they float with their large leaves above the surface, and they serve as ferries to smaller Pokémon. They rise climb ashore only in search of cleaner water. If it’s dehydrated, the leaf will wilt.

With the Pokémon around being either partly water-types (Surskit and Lotad), very small (Weedle) or fairly fast (Pidgeys), this was quite the target-practice for Houndour where he needed to aim at specific places to hit the targets for full damage.

Houndour collectively grew to Level 7!

Houndour has trained his accuracy! His Embers will be more accurate, now!

So, should he otherwise feel done with the training, it was time to make the choice again.

Connected areas:
Pureplain City. Close, can easily get there without complication.
Infested Woods. Relatively close, can get there without complication.
Wet Caverns. Requires crossing the remainder of Route 2.

‘Duck…!’ The Ducklett made a noise as it did just exactly what it said when Wooper shot out its Water Gun. It ducked under the shot, the movement enough to allow Dawkin to move on past it. Behind him, some bit away, the girl and the man peered after him and saw enough of what was going on. The girl shouted down the corridor.

‘THAT’S A WATER-GROUND TYPE! WATER WILL STILL DO DAMAGE TO IT! WATER-GUN!’ And so, as commanded, Ducklett flapped briefly with his wings to drift on the water to get into a better position, and then launched a stream of water at Wooper. … And, yes. Of course, she likely didn’t know Wooper’s ability.

Dawkin managed to strive ahead, and… the road split in two. On the right, the water eventually ended onto dry cave-floor before the corridor continued straight for quite a bit. On the left, the water continued and the corridor curved steadily left, meaning Dawkin couldn’t see far in, but if he strained his ears he could hear something that sounded like splashing in that direction. Someone, or something, walking in the water, not too far away?

Jacques did not show any specific reaction to that he might not have been greatly appreciated by either Shyn nor Ren. He held his question as it was, with Kalmia blinking on the side. Then, came the answer. To begin with, Jacques simply smiled, looking like he had won some form of victory. Kalmia looked confused, but as Jacques wasn’t immediately answering, she did.

‘Ah, um.’ With hesitation at first, that is. ‘There is a great deal of difference between “rare” and “legendary”. But, if we assume you’re talking about the latter, there isn’t much we can tell of their current condition. The libraries of Worldedge City should be able to tell of the glimpses or stories that we’ve seen, but otherwise I’m afraid-’

‘Sunken City.’ Jacques interrupted her, making her flinch. ‘Known Ruins, the Old Tombs, Sunrise Tower, Highhill Rocks. All those are places you may wish to examine. If you wish to read the texts you’ll find, you might want to hear with Professor Dunstan of Worldedge City, though he is often also found in the Research Lab of Raremine Town. He’s been conducting research you may be interested in. As Kalmia said, the libraries of Worldedge or the Research Lab at Raremine might hold something of interest to you. And if you want something a little bit… extra…’ Jacques smile grew wider.

‘You may want to ask the same question you just asked me to the Gym Leader of Fairsea Outpost. He’s found something in his examination of the Sunken City that might interest you.’ And telling what exactly that is was apparently way too sensible. ‘Any reason you’re asking? Is there any particular Pokémon which interests you? Or, is it just the legendary in general?’ Jacques asked, looking intently at Ren.

‘There are probably more rare Pokémon in True Infested Forest than in the Deep Woods. Tons of Pokémon are scared away by the light in the Outer Woods and by the Pokémon of the Deep Woods, ending up a huge soup of all imaginable kinds of bug-Pokémon in the middle. If it’s just for the Pokémon, then here should be far enough. That said, there ARE Pokémon that only inhabit the Deep Woods…’ Laurinda provided some information, however, about the nature of the woods themselves and as to how Pokémon live.

‘It’s not all bugs in there, though…’ Laurinda muttered a bit for herself, then she blinked and came to a full stop.

‘Delphox.’ She commanded, and the fox came to a stop a few moments later, giving a tired stare back.

‘This may be the shortest route, but I’m not THAT eager to blow up. We’re going around this part of the woods.’ She declared, and started moving around to the right, avoiding a specific gathering of trees. Delphox sighed, as if she had really wanted to lead them through there, but obeys and follows her trainer. Looking up at the trees, Claire would be able to see numerous Pokémon attached to the trees…

Pokédex Entry #204 – Pineco, the Bagworm Pokémon. They spit out a glue which hardens upon contact with air. They use this to strengthen their shell with tree bark. They hang in trees waiting for insect prey. If disturbed while eating, Pinecos drops from their trees and explode with no warning.

… Those Pinecos are ALL eating. There is no shortage of bugs in here.

‘We’re almost to the Deep Woods now.’ Laurinda told, walking ahead of Delphox now, having been able to tell the direction.

Seeing how Flame was standing by and awaiting the birds to get closer, Audrey decided on her strategy.

‘Alright! Both at the same time! Tackle!’ Audrey commanded, and both birds flew in to tackle the fox. Flame dodged one of them, but the other was a bit too much to keep track of, and the Tackle connected. However, at this range Flame was able to get an Ember in on the one who missed, the Pidgey hit with fire during the fly-in panicking and going to land to tend the burn, when then Rosa came in with a Tackle. It spun from the impact before collapsing. Pidgey fainted. Only one Pidgey left.

‘I-I’m not done!’ Audrey suddenly said, and threw her one remaining Pokéball, throwing in a last Pidgey to reinforce the line. Now, technically she was using more Pokémon than she had been allowed to by the rules, but it was up to Donna if she felt to call her out on it or if she was just going to handle what Audrey was throwing at her. ‘Again! Both of you, Tackle the fox! Enough hits and you should be able to take it down…!’

No change in tactics. What would Donna do?

‘Oh, geesh! Strong defenses, AND ways to make them harder!’ Lena complained a little, grinning a little at the battlefield where Skitty and Nincada were collectively making taking out each other’s efforts. So, Lena looked at Martin, analyzing him a bit, before smiling again.

‘I don’t think Skitty can win a straight-on fight, so, let’s gamble. Skitty, let’s go the bard-route! Sing!’ Lena announced, and Skitty was more than prepared to stand steadily in place and break out into song. The sound of the fairly pretty song was directed in Nincada’s direction, and upon hearing it he’d soon start to feel drowsy. If it would be enough to make him fall asleep was a different matter, and Martin definitely had the time to take action before the possibility.

Amelia Averyonna

Amelia watched the Shuppets, frowning at their antics. When the fourth Shuppet, the shiest one, caught the pokeball and began being chased by the others, she waited until she could reach out and grab the little ghost, pulling it into a protective hug before frowning at the other three.
"That wasn't a nice game to play. Now two of you are hurt and you've scared your friend here." She chastised them gently. She knew ghost-type pokemon were mischievous troublemakers and could go a little far but she still disapproved of them hurting and scaring each other just for sport. Gently taking her pokeball from the Shuppet in her hand, she looked at the Shuppets. "So, do any of you want to join me? Cry out once for yes, twice for no. I'm leaving the decision completely up to you. But, I'm only going to take one of you with me, so if you all come with me, I'll have to come up with something to decide which of you to take."

The fight ground to a halt as Tail Whip was followed by Harden. Martin was unwilling to let Skitty get any advantage in this fight. He wasn't expecting Sing to be a move it knew though. If it worked, he would be left defenseless to whatever happened next. If he did a hard attack, would it be good enough? He couldn't trade Nincada out or do anything besides attacking. The damage was low, so he might be able to tank it. No, the time was calling for action. "Nincada, get in there and silence that Skitty with another Scratch! Make sure it doesn't bore you to sleep." Nincada was looking a bit drowsy, perhaps from boredom or the singing. Whatever the reason, it still rushed at Skitty with it's claws ready to be used again.
