The Obivec Isles: Battle for Abbaden

Abbaden, a continental fragment off the Northwest shore of Piñura. A developing nation, the land is largely untamed, filled with resources both natural and not of this world available to any who can lay claim. As a result small settlements have popped up all over the southern plains and forests, inhabited by settlers and immigrants looking to build new lives for themselves in any of the many future industries being established.

Recently however, development has slowed while the nation searches for its identity. Two factions; The Choir, and The Loyalität, have recently declared war on one another in an attempt to claim dominion over the land they share. As it stands the majority of Abbaden has been divided in two, the massive Horizon River separating the two capitals and any settlements either controls. Though they once controlled territory East of the river, The Loyalität have been forced back by the Choir’s growing armies, and superior military tactics. In order to buy time, Loyalität forces have burnt down the only bridge spanning the Horizon River, preventing the Choir from reaching them until it is either rebuilt, or their forces manage to travel the long way around.

This pause in hostilities is a welcome breather but won't last long, and the nation's remaining factions have begun to prepare for however the war should continue. As unexplored territory becomes marched on by military boots, more and more is still being uncovered as the lands ancient stories reveal themselves. Each new secret has its dangers though, and exactly how much there is to discover in Abbaden could alter the course of history in more harmful ways than good.

Introduction

Welcome to Obivec, or rather, Abbaden and it's surrounding isles. Caught in the middle of a civil war, armies march from settlement to settlement in preparation for however their dispute should go on. Beyond the safety of the cities and towns the land is largely untamed, teeming with secrets to uncover as you venture from island to island. Valiant heroes seek aid on their quests, offering the possibilities of fame, power, and wealth to those courageous enough to take them. Where you'll go and what trouble you'll fight through to get there, who can say?

A high fantasy, narrative driven group roleplay centered around exploration, we've spent months building up a diverse and lore rich world for our stories to take place in. Pretty much everywhere on the map has a story of some sort, with rewards to be reaped. Your characters will be tested, some may even perish, but in the pursuit of a compelling plot line no sacrifice is too great. Who or what you play as is largely unrestricted so long as it isn't somehow problematic, or unfriendly to the lore. It's a big world and Abbaden is full of immigrants so who knows who you'll meet?

Falke, East Shopping District

From within the great walls of Falke, the sky above the city becomes a framed painting of the heavens, today the clouds largely overcast with a few patches of blue poking out from between the gray. The main streets having quieted down since the morning, droves of people gather at the various markets scattered throughout the city. Brightly coloured banners and lamps decorate the roads leading between these bazaars, guards armoured in yellow and blue patrolling the side streets in pairs as the citizens went about their day. On one such side street, a knight in shimmering armour hastily marched from block to block, occasionally approaching one person or another to ask directions before moving on.

"You there," the knight called out for the fifteenth time that day, walking up to an older gentleman with a cane. "I seek information regarding the whereabouts of an ancient artifact. Where might I find such a thing?" Calieo inquired, pointing her shielded arm towards the stranger as she drew close.

"Beg yer pardon?" the old man replied, his eyes on the blade the knight had strapped to her arm. He stopped walking once the two of them were close enough to speak, and briefly eyed up whomever this person was while she began to talk again.

"I seek information regarding the whereabouts of an ancient artifact," Calieo repeated, speaking far slower this time and overemphasizing her pronunciation, "Do you know where I might find such a thing?" Her tone carried an air of irritation, and impatiently she began drumming her fingers near where her mace hung from her waist.

"Have you tried searching the markets? Just follow the banners, you'll find one, easy," the old man replied, grinning from beneath his whiskers as Calieo snorted in frustration.

"The market, try the markets, have you tried the markets?" Calieo mimicked in a mocking tone, pushing past the old man and resuming her march through the streets. She'd already been to two of these marketplaces and had no luck at either, everyone there trying to sell some form of useless material possession. It was the only answer she seemed to be getting however, so with a defeated sigh Calieo changed her path once again to start following a street decorated with purple and yellow. It hadn't taken the knight long to figure out these markets were all recognized with a different kind of banner, the streets leading to each decorated respectively with some roads having as many as five different kinds. She'd already been to the purple market, so she headed in the direction of the yellow decorations with the hopes that she'd find something useful this time.

Tour de Rouge, Main Gates

It was quite the dreary afternoon near the great iron gates of Tour de Rouge. It had rained the previous day, and grey clouds still remained up high alongside the dark puddles below on the dreary streets and the smell of wet dirt and greenery that drifted in from the outside world. It was as if the gods themselves were debating another deluge over the old stone city. There was still a bustle about the streets, however, with busy citizens walking to and fro as they went about their daily routines. Old hunters and choral guardsmen alike occasionally stopped to chat and laugh about whatever strange stories they had to tell about life in the city. Two figures, respectively hidden under a parasol and a hood, stood near the city walls, watching Veronica and Serena; the only two who looked like they seemed to fit in with their ominous surroundings.

“How long have we been waiting, Teacher?” Veronica asked. “Half an hour?” She ran her free hand through her hair, having elected to keep her helmet packed away for the time being. She tapped her foot, having expected things to go somewhat more quickly than this. The fact that one of the greatest militaries on the continent wouldn’t spare anything more than some supplies and assistance in recruiting aid was something she found somewhat irksome, to say the least. Serena gave an understanding laugh in response to her student’s question.

“It has only been ten minutes,” Serena said. “The Choir can spread information quite quickly. I would imagine that half the town has already heard that they could find money and adventure here. Most of the hunters would just like to wait and stay for winter for a good hunt, I’d imagine.” Veronica nodded in agreement, taking care to retain her posture as she shifted Maugris around on her shoulder.

Falke – East Shopping District, Yellow Market.

Chambala had arrived in Falke a while back and sold all her furs pretty much right away. The tailoring stores and leatherworkers bought them all as usual. She made a cozy little profit from it, enough to buy herself a number of different spices and dried rations. Still her initial estimation of time needed to complete the journey to Falke and return to her home was thrown off balance when she found out they had burned the only bridge connecting the two ides of the river. It wasn't a good thing and she now opted to sell other trinkets to buy additional provisions so she can make the trip on the long away around.

As such she was now on the marketplace with the yellow banners. He was sitting on her fur blanket by the edge of the market as she people weren't really all too happy with her going deeper where the better stalls were. Instead she just found this nice empty spot on the edge of it and was now waiting for potential buyers. She was dressed in her fur coat, but it was opened, allowing a full view of her torso and what she worse underneath the coat.

On the fur blanket in front of her was what appeared to be a linen sheet with a number of different small trinkets lined. Mostly different pieces of carved bone and wood jewelry, mostly pendants and earrings with complex images of animal and flowers carved on them.

Still there was a small piece of leather also where a number of different kinds of trinkets laid. On the piece of leather were her handcrafted pieces of enchanted onetime use consumables. There were small bones and wood pieces carved with the same image on each. Those ones burst into flame when activated, their small size made them unusable for attacks, but worked wonders to light up campfires and the like. She didn't really bother shout advertisements, she was not a new seller around these parts. Besides the furs were her main merchandise, these ones were simply a bonus. If she couldn't sell them herself, she'd sell the jewelry to a merchant here for some small coin anyways. Chambala didn't plan on sticking around more than she had to, she wanted to return to her home before the worst part of the winter arrives eventually.

As such she was now polishing her spear's blade, planning to gather up her things once she finishes with it.

Tour de Rouge, City Centre

Jaimie stared up at the towering cathedral, craning his neck to try to see the top of the soaring spire. It had been a while since he'd seen it, or anything like it. They didn't bother with all that fancy ornamentation in Nether gate. In some ways it wasn't much different, the whole place was big and foreboding, constant feeling of being watched. Here, of course, that came from all the bloody gargoyles dotted around the place, and the wrought iron gates that seemed to block off every other perfectly serviceable back alley. Just rude to be honest. So far, he'd not actually been looking for that much adventure, he'd just been wandering, rediscovering the city, banging out a few runes to keep his purse full. Now he had to make a choice. The people at the gate were going on some adventure to hunt down some guy or another, he could be away for a while, perhaps indefinitely, if all didn't go according to plan. He might never see any of it again. He broke into a grin, there was never any question about it. He was going.

Walking down the streets was depressing as ever, row upon row of flat stone buildings, incredibly maintained, of course, this was the good bit of town, but still just so...boring. Even the sky was grey, like it was doing it on purpose. It wasn't long before he came to the main road in and out of the city, which still bustled with quite a crowd. It wasn't hard to find a lone old hunter wandering around, they usually knew where to find things.
"Hey mate."
"Hey, want something?"
"Yeah, You know them choir woman, looking for men or something?"
"Oh yeah, set up by the gate not long ago. Already getting impatient."
"Know what's up with that?"
"Nah, like I said, they've not been here long. You off with them?"
"Probably, not much else to do."
"Always wait for winter."
"I'm the impatient type."
Jaimie dashed off to the gate. He glanced around a bit when he began to draw near the gate, but luckily the glint of armour beneath the plain cloak gave it away. He asked about a bit first, just to be sure. Well, now was time to do adventuring stuff, like, join this lot. He strode over to them, hoping that they were doing something interesting. "So, hi." He waved, "Apparently some lady called Serena is looking for people to go do stuff. Wouldn't happen to be one of you two would it?"

Ville de la Saumure, Docks

As the large, iron clad cargo ship inched closer to the wooden pier, a dock worker tossed out ropes to the sailors so they could begin threading their knots. A few moments later the ramps were set up and the cargo bay was opened to allow access for the crane. Tirñea remained on the ships deck however, watching as the first of the large crates was connected to the large, iron lifting mechanism. Gears spun and black smoke erupted from a pipe above the cabin, and the large, boxy crate began to rise up over the deck. Tirñea followed as the contraption began to turn on it's tower, swinging over the ship, past the loading piers, and stopping once above the larger shipping docks. Her hair and cloak being pushed by the salted sea air, Tirñea watched as the crate was slowly lowered towards, and eventually placed onto the spacious wooden dock. She'd seen on or two others like it on the way into port, but it looked to be that most docks in this city were meant for fishing. Tirñea had never heard of fish before her voyage, but it had been for dinner once on the trip over and was found to be quite delicious.

As a dock hand finished disconnecting the crane, a pair of brawny looking sailors from the ship worked to open the end of the wooden container. After a few minutes of work the nails in the wood began to expose themselves, and the worker on top of the crate was able to push the wooden side downwards to be further pushed open. Before the second sailor could get to work, the crate panel began to push open on it's own, eventually revealing the creature that had been sealed within the box. Both men had known what was in the crate, but when something that size starts moving it still can make some feel uneasy

"Sierpe, te damate!" Tirñea shouted over the noise of the crane, and the beast stopped it's efforts after another shove. The wooden panel began to peel away from the crate from it's own gravity now, and eventually fell to the dock with a wood on wood thud. Sierpe stirred from within the confines of his container, the wurms body twisting slowly as his forelimbs twitched. Tirñea sighed watching as the two men moved away from the crate and moved over towards the young woman.

"I uh- assume ye'd want help gettin' 'at thing out of here?" one of the sailors asked, looking back briefly towards the impatient looking beast.

"If you can show to me, best way from town. Very thanks to you," she replied, giving the bearded man a warm smile before turning her attention to Sierpe. The wurm had calmed down a bit, but noticeably stirred when Tirñea drew nearer. "Sierpe, te comere!" the young beast master commanded, and at her word the wurm twisted forward and moved onto the dock. The distant comments of onlookers didn't escape Tirñea's attention, and she looked about the docks and piers briefly to familiarize herself with her surroundings. "Where to?" she asked, her wurm lifing it's front with it's pointed forelimbs to look down at Tirñea.

"Just follow us, we can show you out of the city," the second sailor offered, motioning that he be followed as he began moving towards the dry docks. His companion soon followed, and Tirñea looked up at her familiar with an amused grin. "Come, Sierpe, come," she called, using her staff to bang the ground a little harder than she needed as she walked. The wurm started after it's trainer, crawling along at a reasonable pace so to not make others wait.

After a few twists and turns down curved stone streets, they had eventually reached past the boundaries of the city. As the cobblestone turned to dirt, and grassy earth began to overtake the paved walkways, Tirñea lead her familiar off the path and away from the road. "You said you were goin' to Tour de Rouge, yeh? It's easy to find, you can see it from 'ere," one of the sailors commented, pointing towards a massive tower in the distance.

"Thank you," Tirñea replied, stopping to retrieve her coin purse. She removed four large, brass dollars, two for each sailor, and thanked them once more before waving the two goodbye. For a little while she stood there, admiring the view of the mountains and surrounding terrain while Sierpe lay down in the grass. After a few minutes though Tirñea knew she had to get moving, and lifted her staff into the air with one arm. "Sierpe, burcado," she commanded, and swung the staff downwards to smack the larger end into the earth. Sierpe lifted himself from the ground and moved his head towards the ground, pressing the armoured point of it's nose into the earth. It's toothed mouth opened slightly and the creature bellowed as it drove it's head downwards. The earth gave way and the beast twisted down into the ground, it progressing quicker the more of it that went down. Soon all that remained was a large, 3 foot wide hole ripped into the side of the road, and with a grin on her face Tirñea began to head back to the road. It looked to be a few hours away, maybe sooner if she jogged some of the way. She'd been told it would be the place to ask for directions, and find somewhere to go. Before Tirñea brought her staff upright, she smacked it into the ground three more times as she walked along. Though none could see, Sierpe could hear, and the wurm understood the command to stay nearby and follow, allowing it some freedom to explore the new terrain.

Falke, Residential District

The old man watched with pride as the blonde warrior gruffly walked away from him towards the market. Taking the knights and adventurer types down a peg was a game he all too often enjoyed. His fun over the old man began hobbling towards his home, a much more 'lived in' hovel than its surrounding neighbors but this was something the old man could care less about, though the weeds and moss were beginning to be a more prevalent problem even he couldn't ignore.

The old man stopped at his door and shakily placed the key in the lock, an audible creak softly emanating from the door's hinges as it gently opened. The old man took one step into his living room before realizing that something was wrong, the room was much darker than he'd left it and it seemed some of the dust on the less used pieces of furniture had been disturbed. A soft but noticeable thud then came from the old man's kitchen prompting him to frown. In a surely odd sight the old man lifted his cane like a club and began hobbling towards the Kitchen entrance.

As he reached the entrance the old man's face turned white and he dropped his cane. He faced a hooded figure standing in front of his stove, his face obscured by the shadows but his mouth very noticeably eating a small bowl of stew.

"C-Cain?" The old man said, his fearful tone juxtaposing his previous gung-ho attitude.

"Warm Greeting. Good morning Bafford. Saw window was open. Decided to let myself in. Hope you don't mind." Cain said in a flat monotone that never failed to get under the old man's skin. Bafford set down his cane and began walking towards the dining table where he shakily took a seat.

"Er, no, no. Not at all. Was there uhm, anything specifically ye wer lookin to find out?" Bafford asked, slightly more comfortable in his speaking but still clearly unnerved by Cain's presence. He placed his hands together and looked towards Cain who had set down the bowl and pulled his mask up.

"Dismissive. No. Just the usual. Have I been called on. Has anything interesting happened?" Cain said plainly, taking a seat adjacent Bafford. "Left you a bowl of stew. Apologetic. Had to take it out. Make room for my own. My mistake." Cain added, his voice and face not changing in the slightest.

"What? Yeah, uhm no, that's alright. Let me see urm... No contracts yet, I imagine the bridge has gotten everyone collecting their bearin's in the down time. I uhh did see some cat lookin' lady in the market, probably a hunter but she had some pretty nice lookin' gear. Uhhhh what else, Oh! I ran into some queer lookin' lady in a shiny golden lookin' affair, asked ME where to find MAGICAL trinkets, naturally I gave her the business an sent her on her way." Bafford leaned back with a smirk, his previous fear now dissipating into unashamed pride.

Cain simply grunted to himself began walking towards the front door, stopping just next to Bafford before he left. "Appreciative. Thank you Bafford. Always a pleasure doing business." Cain left a few gold pieces on Bafford's desk which seemed to delight the old man even further.

"Well might I say the pleasure is always mine Cain, you really oughta make me yer prime info gatherer, we could stand to make a whole lotta coin together eh Cain?" Bafford looked up to see the assassin gone confusing him momentarily "C-Cain?" he added to no one in particular. Eventually Bafford shook his head and resumed grinning as he sorted through his coin.

Tour de Rouge, Main Gates

Veronica was about ready to set her hammer down when a redhead who looked to her like he knew what he was doing came towards them and waved hello. She perked up almost instantly, smiling and waving back to him with her hand held high.

“Ah, that’s my mentor you want.” She said happily as she pointed towards Serena. The woman gave a slight bow to the man in response before reaching into the bag next to her, withdrawing a small pouch. As it moved through the air, it brought with it the signature clinking noise of good money.

“‘Stuff’ is certainly a way of putting it,” Serena said with a concerned expression. “We are hunting fugitives: At least two men, one adolescent, and a golem. They are all extremely dangerous, and we are willing to accept any assistance in tracking them down and either capturing them so that they may answer for their crimes, or killing them. If you accept, you will receive an advance payment of one hundred gold pieces, as well as ten times that for your reward once we return home successful. Do you accept this offer? Forgive me for assuming you to be somewhat uninitiated, but I must stress again that this is a rather dangerous mission.” Serena looked into the man’s eyes rather inquisitively as she awaited his response.

Falke, East Shopping District

Rebecca looked back and forth as she walked hurriedly through the streets of Falke, which thankfully weren’t nearly as crowded as they could be. She had been staying in a local inn for quite some time while she worked on her mission. The money that The Choir had provided her with gave her enough to be considered a regular, though she would take the occasional odd job fixing something for whatever additional coin she could get. She supposed she should just consider herself lucky that she wasn’t anywhere near the battle when the bridge burned down, but with no quick way back home she had no idea what she might need in the meantime. It was also a good way to get information through small talk, especially if her employer happened to do work with the military. Even if they wouldn’t outright say what she needed to know, they’d let slip just enough for a good inference. Connections were very important, she’d learned.

Today she’d overheard half of a particularly interesting tidbit about some knight in golden armor wandering about town all day, asking about magical artifacts. None who mentioned her seemed to like this woman very much, but Rebecca thought that it was very much worth checking out. Such a thing was interesting enough on its own to warrant some examination, but this person seemed to be have the same goal as her. She could even be another Choir agent sent to Falke, even if that chance seemed slim to her, but either way, she worried that something like this could get her cover blown if she pissed off someone important, which wasn’t something she was going to allow while she was still in town. She wasn’t finding any trace of this knight here, though. Perhaps she could ask for help? She looked for one of the less crowded stores. There was a woman polishing a spearhead there, with a nice head of brown hair and a nice-looking fur coat that was opened enough to reveal, well… Rebecca went red in the face for a moment before reminding herself to keep her gaze to someone’s eyes when she was speaking to them.

“Excuse me,” she said as she walked towards her. “Ma’am? I’m looking for a lady in golden armor, you probably couldn’t miss her. Have you seen anyone like that come through here?” Her tool bag and the case she kept on her back jostled a bit as she came to a stop in front of the piece of leather which the woman had laid her wares on.

[Calieo]

Up ahead the street had begun to grow wider, and Calieo grimaced as the sound of the marketplace grew louder. They were terrible little conventions scattered about this city, filled with needlessly loud imbeciles trying to hock their worthless goods. They'd all proved to be useless so far despite everyone's confidence in the collections of stalls and booths. What Calieo needed was direction, someone who could tell her where to find what she seeked, but unfortunately she only had the vaguest idea of what that was. She knew it was old, far too old for any normal archive to contain any information regarding it's whereabouts. Calieo doubted anyone selling anything from out of a booth would have such knowledge, but still it was the only option anyone had told her of.

The street soon began to grow wider, and moments later Calieo stood at the edge of yet another plaza occupied with dozens of booths and tents. People pushed past each other as they ducked between shops, coin being swapped for goods while shop keepers tried to manage multiple customers at once. The disorganization of it all made Calieo even more unhappy than she already had been, and she groaned loudly before moving towards the market to examine what it had to offer. Quickly she moved past as many stalls as she could, eyeing each one for long enough to see what they sold before moving on to the next. So far Calieo had seen only one stall selling anything remotely close to what she needed, but upon opening one of the books set out on the counter Calieo found it to be full of practical use information regarding something called 'cooking'.

After passing about every stall this market had to offer and finding nothing, Calieo had her hands in her hair and was about ready to pull it out. Deciding against that, the knight lowered her hands and drew in a sharp breath to try calming herself. All this commotion was unbearably irritating, and now convinced that these markets were useless Calieo had no reason to stay. Angrily she stormed off, heading for the nearest street she could see and pushing past a few people to get there hastily. In her rush the knight failed to notice the shop set out on a fur blanket near the ground, and instead focused on shoving aside the young woman standing in front of it. Without pausing to excuse herself Calieo walked over top the blanket, her boot crushing a wooden trinket that had been on display as she walked onward.

Falke – East Shopping District, Yellow Market.

Chambala had just about finished polishing the blade of her spear when a girl appeared who seemed vaguely interested in her. The huntress kept a watch on her with her peripheral vision, without removing her eyes from the spear for now as she pulled it near her eyes to see the steel from up close, checking for dirt, dried blood or anything else that might turn in as a hindrance at a later date.

When the woman started speaking, Chambala lowered her weapon and placed in on her lap as she looked up, quickly studying the other woman with curiosity. She looked frail... and thin! Almost like a cute little animal actually. Still her attire spoke of certain degree of a good profession and education.

“Don't ma'am me.” Chambala quickly replied with a smile.” I'm not married nor do I have children. Besides I'm probably not much older if at all than you.” The huntress stated as she stretched her arms and smiled.” Person in golden armor? Hmmm...” She started, making a thinking sound.” You'd better, move a step backw...” She started as the woman in gilded armor appeared, shoving the smaller woman to the side as she passed.” ..ards... Too late~” She smirked, noticing one of her hand carved wooden necklace broken from when the knight stepped on it with her steel boots just now.

“Hey, the woman in the golden armor, stop it right there!” Chambala called with mildly annoyed voice. Despite these trinkets selling for relatively low price, they still took effort and time to create and the one that was just broken would have provided her with quite some fruits she could dry and use throughout the winter!” You just broke one of my merchandise! I must as you to at least pay part of the price of it... they take time to craft, you know.” She added.

[Calieo]

As Calieo neared the edge of the market, someone behind her addressed the knight in a less than respectful tone. She stopped, and slowly turned her head to look back at whomever had called out to her. At first she'd suspected it to be the short woman carrying an awful lot on her back, but quickly turned her attention to the fur wrapped lady on the ground when she started speaking again. She was complaining about the piece of splintered wood on her blanket, and requested compensation for the broken trinket.

Calieo waited a moment to be sure the woman in furs had nothing else to say, then snorted disapprovingly before turning away and continuing to walk off. "Your money is stupid, and trinkets worthless," Calieo spat over her shoulder, still largely unhappy with how her day was going. Who in their right mind would pay for a piece of wood? Then to leave such things on the ground if you wished to keep them safe? It was foolish and irresponsible at best.

Falke – East Shopping District

It hadn't exactly taken long to track down the women in question, not many in Falke sauntered around loudly declaring their presence in a set of, frankly excessive looking, golden armour. Even still the cloaked figure was surprised by how little the blonde haired women downplayed her presence, perhaps she thought at that point it didn't matter but at least make an effort. She seemed to be arguing with a woman cloaked in fur and seemingly having claws for hands, it could well have been the cat looking lady Bafford mentioned but it's best not to jump to conclusions with his information. There was another, a much more reserved woman who seemed to be at a loss for how to deal with the situation unfolding before her, Cain was about to turn his attention away from her but then thought better of it, in his line of work even the most unassuming should be kept firmly in view.

Following the warrior to this chaotic scene had been relatively straight forward, ordinarily Cain would never dare traverse the streets in his armour but at this time of day with the sheer density of people, coupled with Cain's knowledge of the back alleys and crevices he kept a steady pace alongside his target with minimal effort. The rooftops would have been much faster but in broad daylight he'd be a very easy sight to see perched atop a gargoyle or hanging from the side of a building.

Cain stuck to the shadows but attempted to move in slightly closer, blending in with swathes of buyers and sellers, so that he may eavesdrop on the conversation at hand.

Adventurers weren't anything new in Falke, but with the bridge burned down and a steady stream of work dwindling, times were tough. Cain usually lived on a shoe string budget anyway but this was beginning to get worrisome, he hadn't slept in a bed for some time and sooner or later Bafford and his other contacts were going to upgrade their locks. If this blonde warrior did indeed search for companions and had the coin to pay for it, a lucrative job may be available for him to walk into. Provided she didn't immediately cause enough of a scene to have the city guards get involved.

Denise was laying on her back, looking up at the clouds above. The air was so much fresher here. She wasn't sure yet if she liked that or not. It was a lot easier to breathe and it just felt....nice..somehow. But then there was another part of her which missed the smoke. Missed the burnt wastes of her homelands. She didn't much like it there to be fair, but somehow she still missed the place. Could it be her workshop? The thrill of freedom? This was as much a trip for herself as it was for her business. Who knows what she might experience in this mysterious land.

She was suddenly called back to this world by the infernal voice of her sister. Their native language was dark, coarse and almost a bit growly. The fact that it was spoken by a golem did not help it at all. It was like guttural growling noises with what could only be explained as 'heat' mixed into it. It just sounded...menacing or evil as the golem spoke.

"Guards at the gate....they don't look too friendly.." Denise turned around in the saddle and popped up behind the golem's head, resting her arms on it. Indeed, the guards looked terrified. Slightly less so when they saw Denise sitting on the back of the approaching hulk. They held their weapons at the ready, quite on edge as the golem every so slowly made it's way to the gate.

"Hello there!" Denise said and waved at them. "I seek entrance into the city to sell my wares. Mainly magitek, trinket and runes. I also do enchantments and carve runes into whatever you want it carved into." She smiled brightly before tossing over a traders license from Nethren port to show that she was a real trader.

The guard looked through the paper before nodding and handing it back. "Follow the flags to get to the different marketplaces. Just make sure you keep the golem on a very tight leash. We don't need a rampage in the streets." He moved out of the way and let them through. Denise smiled and accepted the paper back before patting the golem's head and it started walking in.

There was a wide grin on her face as Denise looked around at the crowd. Just one bomb here.... She shook the thought out of her head. She would not let her other side take over. The hunger would never win over her mind.

She shook her head. For now she would try to get her stuff sold. They made their way to the first district, apparently the eastern one. The hulking monstrosity that was her golem walked towards the centre of the market with Denise standing on its shoulders.

"Trinkets! Relics! Magitek and more normally reserved for daemon hunters and explorers now available from the famous Le Rouge emporium!" She shouted loudly, augmenting her voice to be heard clearly throughout the marketplace.

Rebecca felt somewhat embarrassed, even though she knew she wasn’t making too bad of a mistake with the way she addressed the other woman. She looked to the side for a moment, before correcting her gaze.

“Oh,” Rebecca said nervously. “I’m sorry about that. Perhaps I should call you by name, if that...” She was cut off as she was shoved aside by the very person she was looking for. She was thrown off balance, landing on her back and hitting against her creation’s case somewhat uncomfortably. She pushed herself off the ground and dusted her jacket off, glaring at the woman who pushed her. There seemed to be something else going on in the marketplace, but it could wait for all Rebecca cared.

“Worthless, huh?” Rebecca repeated as she frowned and straightened her hat, advancing forward. “Bet you’d know, going around town in that trinket. Do you offer nightly services to get the money you need to pay someone to pound out the dents you get in that tacky suit every time you bump into someone, or do you do it yourself? I don't know what you're doing that makes you think that you're too important to say “excuse me,” but it had better be pretty good if it's worth shoving me around!” She huffed. Amidst all her dealings with pious priests back home and arrogant, patronizing officers in The Choir, Rebecca didn't think she’d met anyone so disrespectful in her life.

Falke – East Shopping District, Yellow Market.

“That's your choice to believe, I'm not one to judge.” Chambala stated with a shrug.” My agreement doesn't mean that you opinion holds much weight though. I do not know where you come from, but around most of the world it is money that makes the world turn. Still we are not here to discuss economy I guess.” The woman in furs stated with shrugged.” Fine enough, I also have no time to argue with angry unreasonable people, just go your way and may you have better luck at whatever you want to do than your attitude earns.” She said, returning her eyes on the girl who approached her asking for this nonsense of a person.

“Well there's the person you were searching for, hope it was worth finding her.” Chambala stated with a shurg and a smile, reaching for one of the small enchanted pieces of bone, blowing softly at it. She then pulled her spear and placed the piece of bone under the spear blade. Sure enough the enchanted trinket soon burst into small flames as the woman in furs made sure to run the entire length of the blade on the fire before it burned out.

“My name's Chambala.” She now introduced herself to the lot more polite woman with a smile.” Do you want to buy a trinket? I will sell you all of these burning sticks for just 1 silver piece.” Chambala asked with a calm smile. There were about 12 of those.” I want to clean them up before I gather up my things.” She said, not paying any more 'attention' to the knight. Frankly she was actually paying a lot of attention to that woman. Chambala was no fool and was used to people trying to trick or attack her from the side. She was already keeping the other woman in her peripheral vision just for that case, her body ready to fight at the moment's notice.

The booming voice of the peculiar lady and the sight of her hulking Golem caused many in the marketplace to stop what they were doing for a few moments and take in this odd spectacle.

Despite this strangeness of the woman and her “pet” a few very quickly went back to their trades and negotiations, seeing them as the more pressing matter to attend to, though many talked amongst themselves and stared in confused awe at the woman advertising her wares.
This event put Cain in a bad position, on one hand he had made some progress in getting closer to the arguing party who seemed to show the woman no heed. But now that the mass of humanity was shifting and moving to accommodate their differing schedules and the massive Golem, Cain’s cover was failing.

In an attempt to double back Cain attempted to let the crowd following the Golem swallow him up, hopefully by moving with them he could find an alternate route to catch up with the golden warrior or the cloaked lady she seemed very hostile towards for answers. If Cain was able, he’d be frowning but he pulled his hood further down to obscure more of his face and kept his head drooped to avoid any glances his way as he moved along with the crowd following the lady and her “unique” sales pitch.

[Calieo]

People could be so dramatic. It was a piece of wood; replaceable, like everything else in this city. Still though the two women talked as if Calieo was supposed to care, the one that the knight had shoved over being particularly eager to complain. It was best to ignore them, and besides, there seemed to be something more deserving of the knight's attention going on within the marketplace now.

Back towards the center of the plaza, someone new had spent the last little while making a show of their arrival from atop some gargantuan beast. Whoever it was, her announcment had caught Calieo's attention just before she could leave the market behind. There was mention of relics among other things, and it was all Calieo needed to decide this market deserved one more chance.

Turning towards the armoured stranger, Calieo made a beeline for her place near the center of the market. The beast she stood on to make her announcement seemed tame but dangerous looking, and it's rough appearance brought a smile to Calieo's otherwise stern expression. "You there!" Calieo shouted once the woman was within earshot, "You said relics, where did you obtain them?" A moment later Calieo stood before the brutish rock monster, looking up towards the woman standing on top it's back.

Rebecca sighed as the armored woman walked away. She didn’t have the stamina to deal with this. Perhaps, later, she would track her down again, but if she had to deal with her for much longer she might end up starting a fight with her. And heavens knew that she doubted she could finish a fight like that. She sighed again and smiled at Chambala.

“I suppose it wasn’t worth it all,” Rebecca said. “My name’s Rebecca, by the way. Rebecca Crescent, if you want to be especially formal. I guess you can see that I’m already travelling pretty heavy, and I try not to keep too many magical items on me if I can help it, but you know…” She dug around in her pockets for a moment before withdrawing a silver piece, the coin glistening faintly even with the relative lack of direct sunlight as she offered it up to Chambala.

“I wouldn’t feel right leaving without buying something after all that happened,” Rebecca said sheepishly. “Besides, I’ll probably need to start a few campfires if I’m going to be heading home anytime soon. You wouldn’t happen to know a good route around the river, would you? I don’t feel comfortable travelling back alone, with the bridge being out and all…” Now that she wasn’t so flustered, she had time to pay attention to the next piece of commotion in the market; some other woman riding around and loudly peddling wares from atop some sort of golem. It was both fascinating and unnerving, unlike any golem Rebecca had ever seen, and most definitely not like her old friend. She shook her head. She hadn’t seen so many strange people in Falke since the day after the bridge burned down.

Serena seemed to be a pretty serious lady. At least, she seemed to know what she was doing, which was always nice. The other one had money, and that immediately made her good as well. Hunting fugitives wasn't the most exciting thing in the world, like fighting monsters or other big things with large teeth, but it was a start. Maybe the people they were hunting had big things with large teeth. Like dogs. Really big dogs. Monster dogs. Sometimes Jaime has a very strange train of thought, but luckily no-one seems to notice, since most of the time it doesn't relate to things that don't exist. There are some weird things. But that is not relevant, because they are talking about fugitives. Good a mission as any. At least they had a golem. And a lot of money. He eyed the bag of coins greedily. "Sure, I'll come with you. Are you waiting for someone else as well?"

Denise grinned as people started shifting away from the other stalls and up towards her. She had made quite the impression. Just what she was looking for. Everything from curious onlookers, to people that recognized the name, to those who were bored of the other things at the market. It was quite the varied bunch. However, Denise was after the richer buyers. Those who could afford her high end stuff.

"Come right up. Look at this trinket which protects against light hits. Perfect if you're getting mugged!" Denise put the necklace over a woman's neck before patting her shoulder. "This is how it works," she said before punching towards her. The woman closed her eyes and a few around gasped. However her fist never connected to the woman. Instead a protective barrier appeared in front of her fist and deflected the blow, leaving the woman unharmed.

Denise smiled at the lady before removing the necklace. "I've got many similar things. Self protection, alarm systems..anti rape. An enchantment you can place on your purse and if you don't do a combination before moving it too far away it'll start beeping loudly. Perfect to make sure that you won't get pickpocketed."

She jumped back onto the golem to collect a few of the items that she had described when a lady knight shouted for her attention. "Yes....I've obtained and made a few, modified or restored others. I got them in Nethergate and one on my way here from there in Cinder. Anything specific you're looking for?"
