Fort Beacon, 0900 Hours
Preparations for Alliance Counter-Attack

Fort Beacon. The pride of Vale. It was a massive military base, but with the massive build up of Human and Faunus forces alike; Beacon was was more cramped than usual. The roar of VTOLs coming and going was near endless. At times, it seemed the ground vibrated as massive fleets transport trucks brought more and more manpower into the fort. The atmosphere was chaotic, to say the least. Communication between the Human Kingdoms and the Faunus Liberation Army was far from perfect, and tensions were still quite high, despite the supposed ceasefire. Many clutched their weapons preemptively, ready to go if someone decided the treaty meant nothing.

It didn't help that the call for arms brought in some unsavory types. Not everyone strictly followed the military chain of command, further exasperating the situation of organizing such a massive force. It was a commander's worse nightmare, and they had little time to fix these problems. The Grimm were mere miles away from Vale, and the Alliance would have to act fast to avoid another Mantle...

--------

Odell Fuchs

"So you're telling me that I'm going to be in a unit with four of those savages? Not to bloody mention that one of them is blasted bloody fang. Fucking Hell, the only other humans are a washout and a traitor!" Odell had been with many squads with people he didn't like... but this had to take the cake. Times were tough... but Atlas couldn't be that desperate. More and more, Odell regretted volunteering for this "special" mission.

The Atlas commander he had been complaining to merely shrugged. "I don't like this crap any more than you do. But you know the Faunus doesn't trust us to send a unit out there. Neither do we trust them to do the same. The only way we're getting there is if we agree to this compromise. One representative from both side, and the rest freelancers. I can offer you this, though. " The commander pulled out his scroll and sent some files to Odell. " It's all the intel we have on your squadmates. Including the White Fang bastard, but I'm sure his people will probably have a file on you. No more complaints- You have your orders. I'll have HQ call them to the briefing room.

Odell frowned, but merely saluted the officer and began walking to the briefing area, and began reading the dossiers prepared for him.

Onyx Ebony
Active White Fang member. Well versed in our tactics and strategy- Has personally killed several soldiers from various kingdoms. Father believed to have a part in starting the War. Approach with caution- Unknown if hostile. Onyx is white fang after all.

Ah. Great. He had to fight along someone who may have killed some of his countrymen.

Cerise Sorovillo:
She gave us little information about herself. Intelligence Services attempting to find more. However, we think you will find her semblance very useful in your unit.

Hmm. He'd have to ask Cerise about her semblance and her past.

Yuna:
Former Mistral soldier. Mistral reports she was a decent fighter, but her passion fell drastically over the seven months she was enlisted. Superiors honorably discharged her for "disability" reasons. Unknown why she has come back to fight again. Comes from an influential family- Her father is a big player in the scroll industry.

Strange. Perhaps the Grimm renewed her passion. But what was a rich girl doing so far away from home?

Basil Plagas:
Be careful with this one. Intelligence suggests he may have some criminal background, unknown how far it goes. However, he seems willing to fight. Will inform when more is uncovered.

Oh boy. This Plagas guy better not have been some fucker who robs dust stores and suddenly thinks he's hot shit.

Zamuri:
Quite the ecstatic fellow. A dragon Faunus, a bit of a rarity. A bit... ignorant but is tough. All brawl no brains perhaps. From what we could gather, he was some sort of hermit that was pushed out of his dwelling by Grimm.

P.S. It's probably not smart to call him a hermit to his face.

Well, if he follows orders, there shouldn't be much problem here. Though his intelligence comes into question...

Mikoto Kage:
Another rich girl. No, we aren't sending all the rich people to you. She's got some royal Vale blood in her- But far from being considered for succession any time soon. We were.. admittedly scared to reject her. Her father is important to the war effort, so please try not to piss her off.

Huh. Not the first time somebody got somewhere because of their parents. Hopefully she isn't a pain in the ass.

Bran Brass:
A human who joined up with the Faunus Liberation Army. Family was killed. Spews some crap about acceptance, peace, and equality, so if anyone tries to backstab you, he will probably stop them. Probably.

Ah, an idealist who joined the Faunus side. Ironic. For all that talk of peace, he sure has chosen a side to kill for.

However, before he could really read some of the finer details of the dossiers, The PA system interrupted his train of thought. "Mikoto Page, Bran Brass, Basil Plagas, Zamuri, Yuna, Cerise Sorovillo, Onyx Ebony, Please report to Briefing Room 5-0D ASAP."
That was... convenient. Odell closed his scroll and waited for his new squadmates to arrive.

Basil Plagas

Basil approached the famous Fort Beacon. It was a strange thing to do, he was the last person in this city who should ever be able to enter, but here he was, walking into the place of his own free will with no guards attempting to make an arrest. Well, not yet. As the faunus made his approach to the gates his crow ,Dolor, landed on his shoulders and gave a single caw "Hm, nobody is tracking us for once? Odd." He rarely went outside during the daylight hours but he was almost always tracked by some kind of gang or organisation when he did.
As the gates opened to allow himself and a rather large truck in, Basil looked around. The tension between faunus and humans was as clear as ever, with many members of both races keeping their weapons close. He shook his head Put your simple fears aside for a moment, there is a greater threat at our doorstep, and I'd prefer it if you weren't at each others throats before the games have even begun..
Checking his scroll for the room number his informant had provided, he made his way to briefing room. Entering the room he saw the only other person there was a human wearing body armor, he did not seem to be happy about the current situation. "Basil" the crow faunus said before pointing to the crow on his shoulders "Dolor","And you are...?" he asked ,getting straight to the point.Frankly, Basil didn't really care, but if he was going to be fighting Grimm with him, he may as well be polite enough to take his name.

Zamuri Zamuri

When the call came, Zamuri was drinking at a pub. It was all he had done lately, as the soldiers wouldn't let him leave the city to go hunting. Bastards. The huge faunus was on his 7th pint of the day, when he heard the announcement over the intercom. "Finally, I get to see some action." Zamuri boomed, his voice permeating the room like a bass drop. After reverberating the entire room with just his voice, he downed the rest of his pint in a single gulp, and walked out like a man who hadn't ingested a couple dozen of gallons of alcohol over the past week.

Even if he was unaware of the reason, Zamuri could see full well the tension between the two races in the alliance. It felt like that time young Bert was carrying a crate of red dust for the miners, teetering on the brink of a real mess. Unfortunately, he couldn't do anything to help the situation himself, as a man trying to solve a problem he knows nothing about is like trying to pull your foot out of a bear trap. Pointless and extremely painful.

As he entered into Room 5-0D, having to stoop to avoid hitting his head on the door, Zamuri found himself looking at another of those armored humans, and some weird guy with a crowd atop his shoulder. That dude set Zamuri's danger senses into overdrive, and he made a note to himself to never get close to him. Giving a rather sloppy salute, based on what he saw the soldiers doing outside, he gave a boyish grin and announced in his ridiculously loud voice; "Zamuri Zamuri here to kick some Grimm arse!"

Mikoto - Beacon Fort

The swan was walking down the hall from her assigned quarters to the briefing room with a bit of a frown in her face. Ok. I get it. My name isn't very usual around here. But could you not mispronounce it over loudspeaker, kindly thank you? she thought bitterly, although when she came around the corner to see a group of soldiers she instantly put on a confident, warm smile. As she passed the group she saw one of them fumbling with a lighter.

Greeting them as she passed by, she snapped her fingers and the sergeant's cigarette lit up. "Thank you, your grace!" he called after her, making her snicker and wave at them regally. She wasn't familiar with the military tradition of callsigns, but she couldn't help but like hers.

Her stay so far has been good. Once she got her bearings she quickly fell into favor with the lower ranking soldiers. It was a nice change, seeing the officers lived a lot similar life that she did before coming here. She enjoyed one unit's poker games in particular, and they seemed to like her just for noticing them and learning all their names, something she found out some of the officers didn't bother with.

Apparently they finally saw it fit to send her out. Mikoto was feeling excited. She did well learning how to fight for about half of her life, and yes, they did some training that simulated real world environment, but by and large she has yet to employ her skill in actual combat. But alas, she was set on helping drive the Grimm back before they were all turned into their food - now that would be an ironic way for her to go.

as she walked into the room, her red eyes grew a little wider as she saw the people there, one in particular. Up until now, she was the only faunus with wings she has ever seen, and the caveman lookalikie in the room had the wings of a friggin dragon. Shaking it off, she greeted the others and moved to the side of the room to lean against the wall, waiting for something interesting to happen.

Bran Brass

Bran had turned the corner putting in his head phones on, it was a walk to the briefing room and he didn't want to speak to anyone. Faunus and human along shot him dirty looks, as he stepped passed a group of Mistral soldiers who spun suddenly slamming his fist into Bran's jaw. "Damn traitor! Humans fight for humanity!" He spat kicking out at Bran's stomach, this guy had asked for it, Bran thought tasting blood from his cracked lip. He twisted his body to avoid the kick dropping sweeping his legs out from underneath him.

He crashed to the to floor but with a fast spin the short boy brought leg back around slamming his heel into his chest, hard enough only to knock the wind out of him. "I'm not human... I'm a half breed, I fight for my family."

Turning to walk away three more soldiers walked over, these were Mistral goons the worst of the bunch in Bran's opinion he saw them as the worst racists and bigots. The first activated a baton. "You beat one of our own half breed." The one in the lead grinned. "Gonna have to discipline you for that."

Bran cracked his neck pulled his sword off his back and tossed it aside as the three spread out all of them branding stun batons. "This isn't fair... It's seven on three." He told them pulling his headphones on and finally playing a song. "I promise I'll keep this dance short ladies, I got places to be."

Bran stepped back snapping his fingers seven off the short hot tempered boy appeared, each one straightening his suit and looking the others. The one lead soldier rushed forward as Bran the original tucked his hands into his pockets, jumping back to avoid the hit as one his grabbed another hand, tossing foot first into the guard.

The four others Bran's advance cracking there knuckles as Bran turned walk on towards meeting letting the other six beat down the guard. Faunus nodding to him as his clones formed back up sliding back into him as he walked into the building heading towards briefing room five-oh-dee. Humming along as he walked in dusting off his black red pin striped suit. He took a seat tapping his fingers a moment before the song ended and he took off the head phones silencing them, looking to the others around the room.

At first, the White Fang felt sceptical towards the Human's request for help. Although, they too witness the growing strength of the Grimm, being informed of many areas within Remnant under attack by these creatures. The Faunus War inflicted a damaging blow to the White Fang's strength. Understanding they are outnumbered to face the Grimm, pressured the White Fang to offer aid. They decided to send some of their most esteemed members to Fort Beacon, in a burning hope that the Grimm can be stopped. Though the White Fang believe enmity between the two races will remain to linger, like a slow burning flame that is unable to cease in the winds of peace. For now, the White Fang are watchful over the Grimm, though making sure to remain vigilant towards the true nature of the Humans.

Fort Beacon, a heavily defended stronghold; acting as a crucial target through the Faunus War. Many attempts to capture the Fort resulted in failure, claiming the lives of many fallen Faunus. The blood shed in past hostilities held it's own truth to the poor etiquette portrayed by the Humans. They didn't want to work alongside Faunus, though they would have to in order to save their own skin.

Meanwhile, a request of assistance from Fort Beacon reached Onyx through the White Fang. They'll be sending a Bullhead to escort him from Menagerie today; he'll also be briefed during mid-flight to prepare for what awaits.

You would find it difficult to blame Onyx on feeling dubious towards the request, willingly invited in with no resistance at all. He believed it would involve great pressure before Humans made the decision to cooperate with the Faunus again. Therefore, Onyx found the truce was just an egocentric resolution. Although, for the sake of Remnant, he will have to fight alongside those who once scourged his kind.

Onyx's Mother became troubled over the realisation of her son going to join another conflict. She knew Onyx is perfectly capable of handling himself in Remnant, his Father after all had taught him well. However, Remnant appears to become more dangerous by the day. Onyx's existence is the spark in her small world. A small spark that continued to flicker within her, even when the Humans came and set out in masses, turning Menagerie into a labour camp.

Onyx's Mother observed first-hand the poor treatment given to the Faunus in times of war. The Faunus would be beaten if they did not comply with orders, or even given lashes for unacceptable behaviour. It was made clear that Humans viewed Faunus as the subordinate race.

During the war, Onyx's Mother often thought of his safety, though she wouldn't let the possibility of Onyx's death cross her mind. Longing, to be united with her Son again, she would tell of Onyx to her fellow Faunus, savouring the day till he returned. "Such a brave man he's turned out to be, just like his Father", usually sighing after but said with a tone felt with a warm sense of pride. Often, she spoke of how she would feel to see her Son, that the hair on her neck would stand, her heart would burst, and she would hold him close once again

With the truce implemented, the Humans began to withdraw their forces from Menagerie. Not long after, Onyx found himself back home from the trifles of war. The warmth was diluted in his eyes, with an overworked body that appeared to be shaking mildly. Bandages, both tight, or partially hanging loose, covered previously obtained wounds. New injuries, scars, and scratches became apparent on his skin. Onyx certainly seemed as if he had survived the brunt of the conflict.

His Mother felt the toll that the war had taken from him, holding him tight enough to want to squeeze the pain from his body. Though, the pain of course, grew. She hurried him to a bed where he would lay, and tended to his health. Though Onyx recovered from his injuries, his mind wouldn't revoke what he saw. The animosity the war concocted was spilling out among the lands, villages turning against one another, cities going up in flame, and all because humans couldn't stand to live alongside Faunus. Even after all that the Faunus had sacrificed through the Great War, they were still treated as in-equal. Onyx's Father fought for Faunus equality, giving his life to prove to the humans once again, that the Faunus were not their enemies. Some Faunus say the truce is an early call for setting equality between races, but regardless, Onyx became adamant the Humans called a truce for their own sake.

He hoped to spend more time with his Mother before heading out again. Especially after a truce was called between the Faunus and the Humans. However, he recently acknowledged the growing risks based around the recently formidable Grimm, hearing news of Mantle falling under Grimm's power. It was clear that even Atlas struggled to claim back Mantle. This indicated that the Grimm were not to be underestimated, especially when both sides had suffered greatly at the hands of the past.

Back when the Humans advanced on to Menagerie, they forced the Faunus to live within the many labour camps that had been set up. Due to this, the settlements around Menagerie became desolate, and soon the many buildings began to appear gaunt. Now that the Faunus have been set free, there is substantial work to be carried out to recover Menagerie to its former beauty.

Menagerie

Walls consisting of wood surround Onyx, its dusty crooks cornering off here and there.
A firm breeze repetitively rolls its way through the building, forming a subtle whistling noise as it passes by.
Decrepit furniture also took up its respective setting, looking splintered and torn.
The house appears to be previously unoccupied and unkempt, it will be needing a fair bit of maintenance now that Menagerie has been set free.

After spending a few days recovering, the worst of Onyx's injuries merely gave off a dull stinging sensation.
He sat slouching forward on top of a brittle stool, his elbow leaning against the table top, with chin held securely in palm.
He was in thought about his new assignment, and what challenges awaited him on arrival. Onyx felt great dissatisfaction on where he is being sent.
To Fort Beacon of all places, a Human stronghold; a place where prisoners of war were held, tortured, and then killed. He is clearly distrustful of the coming scenario, though he would not oppose the wishes of the White Fang.

"Did you sleep well?" A feminine figure stretched out from the other side of the room.

Onyx's Mother sauntered towards the table, grabbing a chair, and seated herself with one leg thrown over the other. Her eyes drifted towards Onyx, who appeared to be wide awake, and slightly troubled.

"Not quite, Mother." Onyx respired deeply before responding, and slid his palm to support his forehead, continuing to lean his elbow on the table.

"Well..? What is the matter..? Onyx.?" Her eyes seemed more awake than they had before. Her ears began to twitch, ready to hear Onyx's next answer.

"The White Fang informed me that I am to depart from Menagerie today." Onyx began to stand, facing his shoulder towards her.

"Onyx. I don't understand...?" His Mother's voice almost seemed to break down. She could only imagine why the White Fang had called for Onyx's return.

Onyx turned to explain himself, his eyes filled with the courage to tell his Mother what she deserves to know.

"It's the Grimm. They threaten Remnant. While the war caused devastation to both sides, the Grimm have grown stronger."

Tears began to form around his Mother's lower eyelids, her cheeks raised as if to hold back her tears.

"I am leaving soon. They're sending an aircraft to take me to Fort Beacon. They are using it as a base of operations to combat the Grimm." Onyx finished his explanation, unable to look his Mother in the eyes.

"Fort Beacon?! You will join the Humans! After all they have done, they will more likely feed you to the Grimm!" A fiery temper become of Onyx's Mother. She knew the brutality Humans had shown in the past, and there was little evidence to change her mind.

"Mother, it is the White Fang's order. I will not go against the will of the White Fang, nor will I join any Human. Though, it is for the sake of Remnant." Onyx's efforts to win his Mother's grace was tepid. He knew his Mother would not approve, nor would she want him to leave her. Especially the time after the war being only a few weeks.

"For the sake of Remnant? Whose sake was it when the Humans rounded us up like cattle and set us to work? Beating us! killing us! For their own sake it was. Humans will not change just because a larger threat has came into view. They will turn on us, mark my words, it will happen again." She almost gave in to her anger until diverting to an overcoming sadness. Hurrying over to Onyx; gripping him tightly, and burrowed her face into the material of his large robe.

Onyx's Mother held him for a brief moment. She began to take a couple of steps backwards to look at him, and used a thumb to catch the tears from under her eyes.

"My boy. What a brave man you've turned out to be, just like your Father" Sniffling whilst forming a ditsy smile, daydreaming as if she was comparing the two.

"Sometimes, I wonder what the fate of our family would be if the males didn't share a semblance... That war didn't have to call them to aid. To die on the battlefield, for the sake of Remnant.., for the sake of Faunus. Meanwhile, Remnant does itself no favours, dragging countless lives into conflicts that only make the Grimm stronger. Though the Ebony's are still there, fighting to the last man. Our men has gone to war for so long we are practically driven by it. But what of the women? who must stay, unsure of when they will come home." Onyx's Mother sniffled again before dropping her smile, lowering her eyes to his chest.

A strong wind started to kick dust through the open window-way. A Bullhead descended from the sky, clearing the dust from underneath its landing. Four White Fang members departed from inside the Bullhead, and began to travel towards the house.

Onyx's Mother could of easily burst back into sobbing. Although, she knew he would have to go sooner or later, having grown used to the ways of the Ebony men in the times of war. Although, Onyx's existence is the spark in her small world. A small spark that continues to flicker within her. A spark so vulnerable in a world so threatening.

His Mother stopped Onyx as he was about to make his way to the Bullhead outside. She placed a hand on his chest, gaping her trembling eyes towards him.

"Promise me one thing." She gasped.

Stopping in his tracks, he remained watchful of the door. In all fairness, Onyx struggled to harden his emotions in this instance, though he couldn't allow thoughts of home to break his focus.

"Promise me you'll return. If it gets too rough out there. Just come back to me, you don't need to die for them." Sniffling once again through her shuddering voice.

Onyx regaining eye contact towards her, planted a single kiss on her forehead.

"If I die, I die for all of Remnant. I fight for the honour of Father, to reunite Humans and Faunus. I die for it all. I also fight to return, But whether I return, or whether I die. My place is not here, for now, my place is to rid the land of Grimm. So you can live another day, and I can return to you." Onyx smiled, placing both hands on the outer sides of her arms. He then proceeded towards the door as knocking began to sound.

"Just make sure you return then." She replied with her back facing him.

Pausing briefly at her response, he knew he couldn't promise his return, though he would ensure to survive what dangers awaited him. Onyx twisted the door handle and jerked the door open. Two White Fang members stood on the opposing side of the doorway.

"Onyx Ebony?" One of them enquired.

"Yes. I will be with you now." Onyx replied, gazing back at his Mother as he stepped outside, her back still facing him. Lowering his eyes, he shut the door behind him.

Onyx followed the White Fang members through the gale that the Bullhead whipped up with its thrusters, the hooded robe on his back flapped violently from behind him. When he jumped inside, he made his way to the window. Onyx watched his house dot away into the distance, thinking of when he would return again.

A hologram appeared to brief Onyx. He turned to focus on all of the information he would need for his coming assignment. Once the hologram shut down, Onyx inspected through all the files regarding his team-members. For now, he can only imagine what truly awaits him at Fort Beacon. Fate is such a strange occurrence after all, even when all seems clear, there are still surprises around the corner. Surprises Onyx had to be ready for.

An expanse of VTOLs are seen toing and froing from the fort on arrival. During the time that the Bullhead landed, the White Fang members took either side of Onyx. Once they entered the world outside, the faces of both Human and Faunus looked upon Onyx and his fellow members. Opinions murmur among those around them with mixed emotion.

On the way through the crowd, Onyx overhears a Human babbling nearby.

"Fucking Faunus, why can't they just stay in Menagerie, where nobody can look at their ugly hides." The soldier on the receiving end of the comment scored into laughter.

Onyx immediately drew the back of his hand onto the front of the man's shoulder. The man in surprise of being overheard turned to look up at Onyx.

"You mind repeating what you just said?" Onyx's eyes darted at the man.

The man threw Onyx's hand away, spinning his body around whilst gritting his teeth.

"What's a matter? Those pussycat ears of yours not working?" The man replied with a smirk.

"Hahhah! Good one Vern!" His friend cheered from behind.

Onyx brought his face closer as if to talk directly into his brain, and narrowed his eyebrows.

"No. Actually, I was giving you a chance to take back what you said. But, never mind." And with that, Onyx lunged a leg up, sending Vern crashing into some supply boxes.

The crowd parted to dodge Vern's oncoming body. Pieces of broken wood scattered across the floor where Vern landed.

"Ughhh.." Said Vern whilst his head spun in a thousand directions.

Click Me For Epic Fight Music

"Hey! He just hurt my friend! Get him!" Vern's friend pointed, shouting as he stuck his head out from the crowd's parting.

"Come on Faunus! Whose with me!" Onyx roared, throwing a clenched first above him.

Other clenched fists accommodated Onyx's as the crowd clashed into a brawl that soon spread across the courtyard.

Odell Fuchs

"Usually a greeting would be in order. Though I suppose you Faunus do things differently. I'm Odell. And... glad to see you have passion, Zamuri." The criminal didn't seem too bad. As for the dragon... well, at least Zamuri was enthuastic. However, before he could say something to Mikoto, a brawl occurred mere inches outside, interrupting his train of thought.

With all of the fighting going on, it was surprising that a firefight hadn't erupted right there and then. Luckily, guards began to break up the mob, leaving the humans on the far right side, and the Faunus on the left. Of course, some wanted to continue fighting regardless, and the guards had to use force at times. At this rate, the Alliance would crumble within the hour.

Odell sighed as he already knew who started it. The White Fang member named Onyx. Of course. Those bloody savages knew only one language-Violence.

"ONYX EBONY! If you do not stand down, I will authorize lethal force. I don't give two shits who started it- All you're showing me is that you're a bloody fucking animal. And Bran. Don't think we've ignored you." Odell had little patience for trouble makers. Usually got people around them killed. It was already a pain in the ass having Humans and Faunus in the same area. Perhaps asking for the Faunus's help was a bad idea after all..

We have bigger things to deal with. The Grimm are almost here. So please, if you would stop causing trouble, all of you. It would make my job a lot easier.

Chunks of debris scattered across the cobblestone floor as if a small twister had travelled through. Cuts, black eyes and broken noses are seen among both sides. A few stragglers that remain in between the separate crowds are being helped to their feet. The gaurds watch precariously over both crowds, ensuring to take retaliation against those who disoblige.

Faunus began to move aside as they made way for Onyx to leave the crowd. Wiping his lips with the back of his hand, he forwarded his gaze towards Odell, and began to amble towards him. Both crowds watched as his footsteps stuck out like a sore thumb through the silence of the courtyard. Onyx continued walking until he was side-on with Odell, turning his head to face him.

"Go ahead and call us animals, but at least we don't slaughter countless innocent lives for the sake of segregation. I'd rather be an animal, than a fucking murderer." Onyx answered, holding back the anger in his voice.

Onyx passed through the doorway where an arrangement of people, both Human and Faunus, awaited Odell's return. Onyx made no effort to greet those around him, nor did he make much eye contact as he entered the room. He found an empty space against the wall, resting his back and the base of his foot against the brickwork. His hood enfolded around his head with his hands tucked within his pockets.

Stubborn and reserved, Onyx wasn't exactly the best person to make first acquaintance with. Especially if you are Human, though even worse when you are a racist one, then it usually leads to what happened to Vern in the courtyard. However, Odell managed to vex his tongue beforehand, yet the White Fang would be less than happy to discover Onyx fighting his way through the first day.

Cerise Sorovillo

Well, this morning wasn't turning out quite how Cerise had hoped.

She walked through the remnants of the fight, her crimson lips pursed into a bored expression. Her crossbow was clutched close to her side, closer than usual. She gave a slight sigh at having to punch a riled-up man in the face, but she still didn't unhand her crossbow. A weapon like that wasn't needed against such a weak crowd. Why were they fighting anyway? Last she had checked, this was an Alliance, not a collection of animals. And why had she been called to the briefing room? Were they finally assigning her to a unit? She had been here for weeks now, waiting for an excuse to not laze around with the rest of this so-called 'Alliance'.

Cerise looked intimidating even in her plain clothing. Her inky hair was pulled back into a low ponytail, one of her favorite hairstyles as it was easy to do and kept the hair away from her face. As always, her thrillingly pale face drew attention to her startlingly red eyes, which were accented by her defined eyebrows. Surprisingly, she had used very little makeup to get this way. Just a little bit of blush to add a tad of color to her normally pale-as-the-dead face, and she was set. Of course, her ginormous antlers stuck out of her head like a sore thumb, a sore thumb she was proud of. It just added to the intimidation factor, something that she appreciated.

After she had finished wading through the brawl, she entered the briefing room, ducking in order to avoid hitting her antlers on the doorframe. Though she loved them, she had to admit that the antlers could be somewhat of a hindrance. She gracelessly clambered into one of the chairs in the room, not bothering to greet anyone in the room. If they really needed to, they could ask about her. Though they wouldn't get an answer out of her.

Odell Fuchs

After the fight was subdued, Odell decided to address everyone present. "Welcome. I suppose you all know the gravity of the situation, so I'll skip the news and go straight to business. We will be part of Operation Valient Storm. The Grimm have advanced within mere miles of Vale. This fireteam will support armored elements as we attempt to push the Grimm all the way back to Moutain Glenn. Normally, you all would have gone through a training course, but given how the Grimm are at our doorstep, you'll have to make do. While... most of you aren't military types, I do hope you follow orders. I am your CO. You can hate me, say stupid shit behind my back, cry to your momma... But I expect you to follow my lead. In return, I'll try and get you out in one piece." Odell then glanced at the clock in the back of the room. It was barely ten. The fireteam had some free time before they would have to ship out.

"There should be more people on the way. If you want, feel free to socialize. We have about thirty minutes before we head out on a VTOL." Odell himself walked over to Mikoto and started some small talk. "What's a rich girl like you doing down here? Seems a bit strange." Typically, an heir/heiress to parents of that stature didn't tend to go and enlist, let alone volunteer. Too dangerous for their pompous, overprotective parents.

Mikoto - Briefing room

Mikoto was disgusted, but not at all surprised by the show outside the door. This was a place where humans and faunus came to work together, and for the most part it worked. So why would they let in someone form the 'fang to invite trouble was beyond her. That group was the antithesis to what was supposed to be happening here. Of course, the faunus had the right to be angry, but escalating conflict - on a world with monsters that fed on negative emotions! - was insanity.

One stern talk later, the group seemed to settle down into grudging brooding and cold stares with the 'CO' trying to inform them about their task. Mikoto's pride was bleeding when she heard they were to be mere support for armored units, but her logical part eventually won out, arguing that for a trial run that was the best option. Glory can come later, when they would be sure none of them would stab another in the back.

She was about to go and find the unit they were to support to have a chat with the grunts, but to her surprisingly raised eyebrow the designated commander came to her. Of course, she could have by now guess the first words that would flow out of his mouth - everyone always started the same if they knew who she was or could guess form her appearance. She looked Odell straight in the eyes and offered a hand: "Mikoto. I don't believe we've had the pleasure."

Her eyes left his, the red irises having gazed long enough straight into his soul and ticked over the assembly in the room. "How many rich girls have you met?" she asked, nodding her head towards one other person in the room. "There's another, she may not look the part on the first glance, but you have a certain kind of charm coming from wealth even if you don't enjoy it's benefits too much. So, with the two of us, pray tell, how is it strange?" she smiled back at the commander.

"But, to answer your question, I grew up learning to fight. It's the way of life I chose. And when I can use it to do some good - well, here I am. Besides, I have royal blood and my family still takes care of good part of Vale. Even if I am merely an indirect successor to the throne of a now defunct monarchy, I still have duty to my people and I will uphold it, by the elements. Human, Faunus, I don't care what they look like. The Grimm threaten all of us, and I have the power to aid those in need, so I shall. Simple as that."

She nodded in the general direction of everyone else: "I do not envy you the task of keeping all of them focused on a common goal, but for what it's worth, as long as your and my ideals align, I shall aid you in any way I can, should you need it." Bouncing off of the wall, she straightened her jacket and brushed the paint that stuck to it off. "I was thinking about visiting the unit we'll be accompanying, care to join me?"

Erich Zann wasn't in the best of moods, though all there was to show for it was a slight decline at the corner of his mouth. His friends had sold his services without asking him if he approved of the job. As he walked through the streets toward the fort, paperwork firmly in hand, he considered their reasoning. Perhaps it was because he wouldn't actually speak his approval or denial? Or maybe they thought he'd decline before actually hearing it out?

Their reason for not coming to him first would remain a mystery, but Erich knew without a doubt why they'd sent him in particular. He was probably the only person in the mercenary corps who wouldn't voice any complaint about working with Faunus. Sometimes his silence was a curse instead of the blessing he'd long thought it to be. At least in this case it would be a blessing for whomever was in charge.

Erich's slight frown deepened. A new commander meant taking commands from an untrusted source. It was different from mercenary work, where at least the mercenary unit had a bit of freedom in how they carried out their tasks. Here, he'd be expected to follow orders exactly as given. Erich wasn't sure how he'd handle it, but he hoped whoever was at the helm was a good pilot.

The first of Erich's papers was handed to the guard at Fort Beacon, who then let him enter. The fort spread before him in both splendor and squalor. Unfortunately, none of the papers Erich held was a map of the fort, so he gave the guard a questioning look.

"What? Is there something on my face?" Erich shook his head slightly. "Then what is it? Spit it out already!" Erich pointed at the paper in the guard's hand, then gestured toward the inside of the fort. "No, you don't need this paper inside the fort. Just get going already! I have a job to do and playing charades isn't part of it." The guard turned away, obviously intent on ignoring Erich.

Unfortunately, that particular paper had the location where Erich was supposed to meet with his commanding officer and squad in the fort. None of his remaining papers had that information. Erich was now lost in foreign territory and surrounded by the military to boot.

All he could do, he decided, was explore and hope to find the right place by accident. Off he went, poking his nose into busy kitchens, crammed storage sheds, and bathrooms - luckily not the ladies' room - all in the name of finding his destination. Strangely, nobody seemed to mind, nor did anyone question his presence. Perhaps others had done similar things. Perhaps they were just too busy to care. In the end, it didn't really matter to Erich. He just wanted to get where he was going already.

Luckily, Erich overheard a conversation between two soldiers near one of the kitchens. One was complaining loudly about how the Faunus had started a commotion and now he was getting punished for it. The other asked where it'd happened, and the complainer said, "Oh, it was over near the briefing room where those monsters are supposed to meet for the concerted effort thingy. Just look for the big mess over by..."

Just over one minute later, Erich pushed open the door to Briefing Room 5-0D to find a collection of Faunus and Humans now beginning to socialize. Erich could tell from glances and from where some heads were still looking that a hooded man was the commanding officer for the group. He seemed to be in a conversation with a girl, but Erich's need to report for duty superseded, at least in his mind, the seemingly relaxed discussion that was taking place. Erich approached the man and wordlessly offered him the rest of the papers he was carrying, which comprised Erich's intel file, filled out by his superiors in the mercenary corps.

Odell Fuchs

For a rich girl, she sure didn't give off the vibe of one. There was some arrogance, but little compared to what he expected. The Swan Faunus offered her hand and stared into his eyes, seemingly burning a hole in his soul with flaming, crimson eyes.

If this was a romance flick, this was probably where he'd fall in love at first sight.

"Odell." He gripped Mikoto's hand tightly before breaking off the handshake. "I've met a few. Atlas has a lot of em." Odell shrugged as he continued. "Usually rich types want to play armchair general. They don't want to get their hands dirty actually fighting, let alone be alongside the lower class, as they call it. That's what I find strange. Maybe they're different elsewhere." To be honest, Mikoto was probably more humble than any rich person he'd met. "I hope that training serves you well. You do have a naive mindset, but commendable to say the least." Odell glanced around the room, looking at his ragtag team. "Yes, a very tedious job, being a leader. Only time will tell if we'll be able to work as a unit. If not... well, I suppose we'll all be dead. I'll keep your offer in mind."

Before Odell could continue the conversation any further, a man came up to him with papers. Hmm. Must be that mercenary command hired at the last second. Odell grabbed the papers, glancing at them for a few seconds before handing them back. "Ah. Yes. The mute one. Keep your papers. I have no need for them." It would be a little unsettling having a guy that didn't talk, but Odell supposed any extra manpower was good.

"Ah. I may as well come with you. I have to talk to them anyway." Odell decided to address the rest of the group, as he figured they might wander off if not given instruction. "Mikoto and I will be headed off to the staging area. Just follow the signs to the hangars when you're all ready. We leave in 20." Odell then walked out of the room and towards the 442nd Armored Division's camp.

It was extremely crowded, with mechanics making last minute adjustments on the various Paladin 290s the 442nd fielded. Some adjustments were practical, such as extra armor plating. Others... not so much. One could see pilots spray painting custom emblems on their mechs. Odell supposed it was for the "cool" factor.

Would it be enough?... Odell curled his lip as he thought about the mission ahead. It had to be. This was their only chance at winning.

Basil sighed as he heard commotion outside, followed by the usual games of morality the humans and White Fang usually engaged in. After Odell allowed several minutes to socialise, he looked around at the ragtag team. Instead of engaging in conversation his hand twitched back to his scroll to send several more messages to his associates in the underworld. Generally they were the same threats he had issued in person, but left as a reminder in their inboxes.

After Odell moved to the staging area, he decided to follow suit. He wasn't exactly having a riveting discussion with anyone. Moving through the fort, he received several odd looks from many of the personnel. Perhaps they recognized him him from the streets of Vale? Or perhaps they suspected he was one of the faunus they so despised. The thought made him chuckle slightly as he followed the signs pointing to the hangar.

When the crow faunus reached the hangar, he followed the duo ahead of him to wherever they were to meet up with some difficulty. The mechanics and mech pilots were moving in a frenzy of activity as though the Grimm could attack at any moment. Well, he supposed they could. As Basil navigated through the crowds, the rather impressive swan wings came to the forefront of his mind. Surely they weren't the same wings he'd been hired to...extract a few months ago? The wings belonged to some upper-class heiress, she wouldn't climb down from her glass tower to save Vale. Some odd fellow had came to Basil and his associates asking for them, a strange request but it payed well, unfortunately the the security around the castle was far too advanced for Basil to deem the operation reasonable although the fellow who made the request seemed happy to begin purchasing Basil's other products.

Eventually catching up to the duo, the bird faunus could not help but ask the lady "It seems a bit strange for someone of your stature to be here, you are the lady who lives in the castle on the outskirts of Vale yes?" Dolor seemed to recognize the swan faunus as he gave a hearty caw after Basil reached Mikoto. Quickly silencing the crow with a sharp tap on the beak,he waited curiously for the swan faunus' response

Mikoto - On the way to the hangar

"Perhaps I am naive. Or maybe, I have the correct mindset and you are all grim. If we live long enough to see this war end, we shall see who was right." Mikoto smiled as they headed out the door. "Heh, maybe somewhere down the line I could, but I don'T know if I'd even like such position. Needless to say I am hopelessly unqualified for it at the moment. And we need to win this, or none of us is going to be running anything. There's no space to stroke egos here."

They came into the organized chaos that was called a hangar. Immediately someone in an orange jumpsuit nearly rammed into the swan, trying to get ammo from one place to another. The birdbrain didn't quite understand what half of the hardware was for, but she could spot differences easily enough - from the custom paint jobs to - "Are those flamers?" she asked, looking at the closest 290 that had several tanks on it's back that piped into jets mounted on the 'wrists'.

"Indeed." said the pilot, jumping down from the cockpit where they were fixing some wires. "Built them myself. Won't do any good against a Mistralese airship, but the grimm do burn good I say."

Mikoto couldn't help but agree. "Quite." she nodded, her right hand brushing against Emperor's grip, while she raised her left and a ball of fire came to life in it. Mikoto thrown it towards the 290 with a whisper of a spell, causing the fire to spill over the nameplate the pilot drawn and make the letters seem burning.

The pilot Oohed and Aahed for a little while before tossing her arms around the swan, rapid-firing thank yous. Mikoto sent her off with a pat on the head and rejoined Odell. "Good grief, I though I was a couple of yours too young here. she couldn't have been more than seventeen. These are terrible times."

Shortly after, someone else caught up to them and asked her pretty much the same question. She sighed. "Why is it always 'Durr, Are you really the princess?'-" She said in a 'dumb youtube commenter' voice, "-and never 'Hello, you have amazing eyes.' or something like that?" turning around, her eyes fell on a very strange looking fellow. But alas, she shouldn't let appearances cause prejudices. "Yes, that would be me. Kage Mikoto." she said, offering her hand again. "Have we met? Can I help you?"

Like a sullen child, Onyx hung his head throughout the entirety of the chatter. Expressing no signs of movement, or exchange of communication. Although he kept his ears keen for what was said, he may as well of been a mere shadow within the room- lingering and lifeless. Captain Odell's briefing did not inspire much encouragement- presenting himself arrogantly, just as Onyx had expected from a Human officer. The group, that seemed to be mashed together as a means of saving Vale, didn't give off much hope either. Onyx understood that appearances can be deceiving, and gained hope that these individuals would live up to expectations.

Onyx remained in a motionless state whilst Odell, accompanied by Mikoto and Basil, vacated the room. The White Fang didn't have sufficient information towards the backgrounds of those in the group under Odell's command. For now, Onyx only knew the faces that matched the names. Whether he would contribute towards learning more about his teammates, would be entirely up to him. For all he knew, most of the members of the group may not survive the impending attack.

During both the 'Great War' and the 'Faunus War', Onyx had befriended plenty of Faunas on the front lines. They shared stories of home, and formed relationships that sparked a seemingly limitless sense of morale. Creating bonds that would seem unbreakable if it had not been for the circumstances. Although, many of whom never experienced the day of return. With each, and every friend lost to war, drove an overwhelming bitterness into Onyx's soul; gradually, he made less acquaintances, and even lesser friends. Truly, the fear of losing those he holds closest is Onyx's vulnerability. Once he becomes attached, his behaviour becomes altruistic and nurturing. Among many other peeves, sensing self-vulnerability is distinctly around the top of the list. He feels more secure in distancing himself from those around him, than to suffer a great deal once again.

Onyx momentarily closed his eyes as he let out a shallow breath, already thinking too deeply about the trials and tribulations of his past. He found it was a bad habit, though a habit he could not shake, as if it had been stitched within the linings of his mind. Faces, moments, victories and defeats, pieces of information that scattered and came back as rough segments of memory. The tormented daydream of a past filled with the grief and anguish of a soldier.

Luckily for him, his attention was spent elsewhere as his pocket began to vibrate. He reached inside to grab his scroll and gazed upon it to see an unknown contact. He accepted the call, raising the scroll to the inside of his hood and to his ear.

"Onyx Ebony speaking." He spoke in a toneless voice as he shifted his eyes around the room.

"Onyx, it's Garnet. Have you met with Captain Odell?" Garnet replied.

Garnet is Onyx's superior within the White Fang, and was the same individual that had briefed him during the flight to Fort Beacon. He will be assuring that everything ran smoothly in terms of Onyx's arrival, as well as his cooperation.

No wonder the contact was unknown. For whatever reason, the White Fang didn't want to be traced. Even though there was a truce, they still could not fully trust the Humans.

Onyx turned to leave the room and began to walk to the hangars, he did not want anyone to overhear the conversation within the enclosed space. The bustling noise outside would be better suited, where prying eyes and ears would be less likely as everyone had their own business to attend to. He searched for the first sign that pointed towards the hangars and began to follow en route.

"Onyx? Did you hear me?" Garnet's voice had a touch of impatience at the lack of Onyx's response.

"Yes, yes. I've met with Captain Odell. I'm on my way to their hangars, we are leaving for Vale in twenty minutes." Onyx replied

"Good. I've heard of your foolish disobedience earlier. If I hear another bad word about you, I will take precautions. Do you understand?" Garnet spoke in a calm voice, yet Onyx knew full well what Garnet was capable of.

Garnet had been more than likely told by one of the Faunus in Fort Beacon that had been ordered to lay low and watch over Onyx.
He knew Garnet would intend to make Onyx regret going against his demands. The White Fang had grown reckless, and even desperate as the Faunus War was closing to the truce. Unaware of the oncoming truce, and the damage dealt to their number, they would turn against their own members and punish them severely for disobedience. The White Fang would slaughter families of the men who refused to step in line and fight, almost to a degree where they focused more on pulling together than fighting the Humans entirely.

It is a shame for Onyx, being wrapped up in the fight for his Father's honour to unite Faunus and Humans; along the way being beset on revenge by the firsthand experiences of the Faunus war. Furthermore, the White Fang who brainwashed him into being a puppet for their own agenda. Or his. Or perhaps he isn't even sure anymore. Although fighting is all he knows it seems. Just like those before him within his family, to be whisked away into conflict, for the sake of something he hasn't really come in to terms with yet.

"Yes Garnet. I apologise for my actions. It will not happen again." Onyx's voice began to lower, as if to whimper under Garnets superiority.

"I will contact you again, make sure you answer." Garnet demanded before ending the call.

Shortly after, Onyx arrived at the Hangar and began to wait for Odell to make himself present. He stored his scroll back into his pocket, and had thoughts of his Mother back in Menagerie. He wasn't only fighting for the sake of remnant, but also for the security of his Mother from both the Grimm and the White Fang. He understood the risks, but he'd die in a heartbeat to ensure his Mother's survival. Against all odds, Onyx had to stand strong, not for the sake of his team, but for the sake of his own little world.

Odell Fuchs

"I'm betting on me." Odell continued to watch the 442nd prepare. Some of Atla's finest... reduced to having underage soldiers. The war had gone on for too long. The adults had gone off and died, and now mere teenagers had to replace them. If the trend continues... well, Odell hoped he would be long dead before children were drafted. That would be a sight Odell wouldn't be able to stomach.

"That pilot must have been....14, 15 years old when she entered basic. Times are changing for the worse." Odell himself had volunteered at a young age, but it wasn't something anyone had forced him to do. It did feel strange being considered one of the eldest. Back then, he would have been still considered relatively young. "War has gone on for too long. Wonder how long it'll take before we start drafting toddlers."

From the looks of it, preparations were almost complete. Pilots began entering their mechs and completing last minute checklists, their last stop before leaving the relative safety of the makeshift hangars. One could feel the excitement.... and some fear of the uncertainty ahead.

Odell watched as the criminal, Basil, stumbled upon them. Strange. Simply to ask her if she was royalty? Odell simply decided to wait for Basil to explain himself. He was a common criminal, so Odell wondered why he would even care about Mikoto's status.

Zamuri had been silent, as he had been taken aback by the girl that walked in the room. Not the bird, though she had some charm she was too stuck up and weak for his tastes. No, what made him stare was the girl with the antlers, some kind of deer faunus. His perceptive eyes picked up so much, like how she was tribal like him, how she had assumed a role of leadership despite a young age. Most of all, the strength of the girl surprised him.
Many of the people in this room were killers of one sort or another, but she had the look and smell of a person who had experienced this in its most visceral sense. She was definitely someone he wanted to talk to, perhaps even something more. But he pushed that thought to the back of his mind, the memories of his dead tribe still too fresh in his mind to think of courting.
Walking over to the girl, he sat down in a chair next to her, his wings looking more like a leather cloak.
"Hello," he said, with a cheerful grin to his face, "You are from a tribe aren't you? It's good to see someone other than these damn city folk, acting like I'm simple because I'm not 'civilised'."

Basil shook his head at the swan's question "I don't believe we have met, however I do know you from a rather...peculiar request from a client, have you ever considered how much those wings of yours are worth on the black market? Quite a bounty has been placed on them in the past" the faunus gave a dry chuckle after speaking ,although it just sounded like a rather loud exhale of air "Don't worry however, I'm not here to collect, I doubt the fellow that set it even has the funds anymore actually...no matter, my real question is why the sole child of such a wealthy family is fighting against the Grimm. Surely you should be preparing to flee the city in case the Grimm attack, after all if you die, what happens to your families precious company?" Basil almost hissed the last part of his sentence, disdain clear in his voice. After a moment of quiet, he added in a relatively neutral tone "Although I suppose if you have combat experience, any help his good"

Mikoto - Hangar

Mikoto hissed, hands instinctively reaching for emperor's and Regalia's grips at the talk of her wings being amputated. "I will handsomely pay for a name of said fellow." she hissed through clenched teeth, before relaxing once Basil did. Sighing dramatically, she rolled her eyes. "I am not jsut some 'rich girl', I am a noble. And this is my land. I will defend it. Hey commander, can you announce this over the loudspeakers so I can stop answering this question every thirty seconds?" Mikoto said, her tone suggesting the request wasn't serious.

"Besides, even if I were not, my 'precious company' happens to be in this very city. There wouldn't be many more riches coming in if I let it be overrun." she suggested, not going into the topic of her combat experience. Days on end sparring, but actual combat? Well, we shall see.
